We have yet another case of a police shooting of a family dog. This case involved a particularly tragic
occurrence on Christmas Day. Kobi, a 70-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback mix was shot dead by a Chicago police officer. Chicago has previously appeared on these pages for dog shootings. The family says that the police opened the gate to the backyard where Kobi was being kept and then shot him when he came out. They were looking for a suspect. The police department insists that the officers acted appropriately.
Chanette Weaver said that she had just put Kobi in her closed, fenced-in yard at about 6:50 a.m. on Christmas Eve. She said, five minutes later, an officer came to the door and told her “Ma’am, your dog is dead.” She called the officers “heartless” and said that they told her “Ma’am, your dog was getting ready to attack one of my officers.’ And they shot him three times.” Police say that they shot the dog when it came to the sidewalk in a threatening manner. Weaver however said that the dog had been through obedience training and would not have attacked.
Police were looking for an escaped prisoner.
The family still have Kobi’s wrapped gifts under the tree. They now have a lawyer. The city previously paid hundreds of thousands in a recent dog shooting case.

Two major concepts have to be taught police departments and municipalities. The first is that a taser is a deadly weapon. The second is that dog is man’s best friend and woman’s only friend. So cop supervisors: teach the troops that the taser is just as deadly as a colt 45. Second, dont hire anyone who is afraid of dogs or hates dogs. Take all prospects to the dog pound and see if the dogs growl at them.
It is a lot more than growling. Don’t ever take a dog to the pond or shelter. They will alter them. That is evil. A person can cure a dog of growling without killing.

Well – – – Since the PD insists the officer acted appropriately, there is a systemic problem, clearly not limited to one unfortunate isolated incident. If this were a drunk driving incident, the individual would have been arrested, charged and if found guilty, the person would have been fined and/or imprisoned, forced to surrender his driving priviledge for a time and been ordered to attend special classes on behavioral modification & substance abuse. All, or most all, of that would have happened even if no one was hurt or killed. Most pet owners regard their animals as important members of the family rather than just animals. If the investigation indicates that the officer was not legally justified to kill Kobi, then in addition to all else, he should suffer serious personal and professional consequeces.
Doesn’t it make sense that if the suspect was there he’d been corned by the dog?

1. Why was the gate unlocked? In Chicago with it’s crime and stupid cops, why would they have a fenced in yard with an unlocked gate?
2. Don’t cops in Chicago and environs have dogs and kids? How would they feel if they had to tell their kids that daddy’s partners killed their dog?
3. Chicago needs to send it’s police force back to the academy for remedial training. Between the arrests of photographers and the murder of pets – they apparently have not done a good job of teaching them that they are there to protect and serve not bully and kill.

You are right . I erupted. Police think like the devil because they are taught by a methodology that thinlks like the devil. They give guilt. That is because the devil is guilty because he rebelled from God. He has been blaming God through people ever since. Had God be bad all of us would not be here. I think it is instructive that mail men and women, UPS and FED EX delivery men and women never have to shoot dogs.
Ordinary civilians almost never have to resort to physical violence to protect them selves from dogs.
Animal control officers almost never kill or even tranquilize animals.
Yet LE often kill dogs and then claim that it was necessary.
I would argue that LE has been improperly trained.
It is time for citizens to tell elected officials and LE management that the common experience of many other citizens refute the claims that LEO’s have acted reasonably.
It is time to inform LE that their actions are unnecessary to protect officers, endanger the community and violate reasonable standards.
Communities need to hold individual LEO and departments accountable.

A police officer probably wrongly shoot a dog, and every LEO in the world must die according to the glorious god that is yours Jonathan H. I think you are suffering from a case of mistaken identity, it sounds more like you worship Satan than God; because arbitrary murder sounds more like the devil that the loving God most people identify with.
