After the historic victory in the Windsor case, gay state Rep. Brian Sims (left), D-Philadelphia, rose to speak about the decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act on the floor of the Pennsylvania House. He did so during a time when members are allowed to discuss any subject of importance. However, he was blocked by Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe who objected on the basis that any such comments would constitute a “rebellion against . . . God.”
Rep. Daryl Metcalfe explained his decision to object and block his colleague:
“I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God’s law.”
When two other Democratic legislators rose to speak in support of Sims, they were also blocked.
If this quote is accurate, Metcalfe has succeeded in combining the rejection of the separation of church and state with the denial of free speech. It is an impressive display of religious intolerance when one of his colleagues was trying to discuss a major ruling of constitutional law. It is, to use Metcalfe’s terminology, a rebellion against constitutional values.

Both parties are guilty of oppression……
This your duopoly folks. “Those Republicans,” and “Those Democrats,” became stale and lame about 30 years ago.
These republicans legislators continue to bash women and gay people. Look what they are trying to do in Texas. Wendy Davis is attracting many followers and women’s issues and lbgtq issues will be at the top of the agenda in 2014 and 2016 thanks to the oppression of both groups by republican legislators.
And the difference between Daryl Metcalfe and the Taliban is…?
My god doesn’t like your god….. That’s a good one…
“Preach the gospel always, use words if necessary.” – Francis of Assisi
Imagine a bicameral system of governance where one party must rely on the religious fundamentalist movement in order to remain relevant. Oh wait, you don’t have to imagine it. The USA has it.
This is one for the list of Hall of Shame comments made by those suffering from self-induced dementia:
(ALZ). When those in power forget what nation they are in, the supreme law of that nation, and the history of that nation, it is time for serious therapy.
Something is impairing the brain cells of Reprehensible Daryl Metcalfe (R-Bullshitistan) that communicate “Attention: you live in America where the government is secular, not theocratic” to the brain cells that activate and manage the tongue cells.

So important and on point it bears repeating.
Church and state are two peas in a pod. Had church not had it’s militaristic approach to people perceived to be different the state would not support war and incarceration. Right now writing on a sidewalk is an arrestable offense. That is the equivalent to police arresting Jesus writing in the sand. Free speech never existed.

Excerpt:
HARRISBURG, Pa. — An openly gay Pennsylvania state lawmaker asked his legislative colleagues Thursday to censure an archconservative colleague who a day earlier had prevented him from making floor remarks about the Supreme Court’s gay marriage rulings.
Rep. Brian Sims, D-Philadelphia, asked the chamber to reprimand Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler, at the close of session because of an interview Metcalfe gave to explain why he exercised his right to prevent him from speaking on the topic during session.
“His comments did not live up to the standards set by this body,” Sims said on the floor.
It is an Affront To Dog. And the dogs are not going to take it lying down. Yes, God spelled backwards is Dog. And in German its Dnuh. God and Dog have no fury like a women scorned. Dogdamned Pennsylvania hoosiers.
And its one, two three, what are we fighting for?
Don’t ask me I don’t give a damn..
Next stop is Vietnam.
And its five, six seven open up the Pearly Gates..
Ain’t no time to wonder why..
Whoppee we’re all gonna die.
Religious tolerance is in the eye of the beholder. I could not ordain which photo was that of the schmuck.
Religious intolerance cannot tolerate seeing the character of Jesus in a human being. Love being shown is an affront to the devil.
Based on the subject line I expected that he was going to say that the DOMA victory was an affront to God. I had to read the original article to find that he intended to speak of the victory and the objection stated that speaking of the DOMA victory was an affront. to God. Guess that’s good.
Religious zealots need to get a grip. There’s a time and place for everything and the legislature is not the place for religious intolerance.
Those religious zealots have the character of the one who is the enemy of God
Reince Priebus surely has approved of this as part of the new and improved GOP outreach.
One more example of the failure of the Media to deliver topical and relevant news. The Public need to know about the idiots it elected to represent it.
its amazing to me how only certain people know exactly what GOD said. from a book written and rewritten by many MEN. sorry he is full of crap as the secret to even getting that far in politics is now out in the open. and i guarantee that is the only thing he follows when it comes to the bible. because HE SURE ISNT FOLLOWING.. judge not lest ye be judged” along with ” let those without sin cast the first stone”.. oh how the elites love their distractions
The person preventing the gay person from speaking aboput DOMA is definitely not acting like Jesus. He is out of place being blind not knowing where he is going. That anti Gay guy is for war. I counsel all gays to get out of the military snubbing your noses at recruiters. Military have the fear of God making it easy on the people and yes I said people to have an easy transfer from a business where murder is legal.

The religious crazies have taken over the States as well as the Federal legislatures. When you mix religion with government, bad things happen for both institutions.
I think it is time for the PA legislature to look into censuring and expelling Daryl from his position of public trust. He obviously has no respect or willingness to abide by his oath of office to defend the Constitution. He needs to be OUT NOW!
