After the historic victory in the Windsor case, gay state Rep. Brian Sims (left), D-Philadelphia, rose to speak about the decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act on the floor of the Pennsylvania House. He did so during a time when members are allowed to discuss any subject of importance. However, he was blocked by Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe who objected on the basis that any such comments would constitute a “rebellion against . . . God.”
Rep. Daryl Metcalfe explained his decision to object and block his colleague:
“I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God’s law.”
When two other Democratic legislators rose to speak in support of Sims, they were also blocked.
If this quote is accurate, Metcalfe has succeeded in combining the rejection of the separation of church and state with the denial of free speech. It is an impressive display of religious intolerance when one of his colleagues was trying to discuss a major ruling of constitutional law. It is, to use Metcalfe’s terminology, a rebellion against constitutional values.

Dear davidm2575:
Except for casual banter and the expression of personal concern, I do not often respond to individuals but limit my responses to statements albeit often times with attribution. And I readily admit my many ad hominem attacks which are or at least should be limited to the politicos and other deviant subjects of the posted materials. In this case, however, I will make an exception.
Hey, A-hole! You are an arrogant prick, aren’t you? What makes you mistakenly believe that I hadn’t read all four opinions prior to posting? Unlike you I just don’t have my head shoved up Scalia’s fatuous opinion. While he declares the Constitution dead, devines the founder’s original intent instead of meaning while denying same (and thus bastardizes a limited rule of objective interpretation into an expansive rule of biased construction), and derides the validity of critical legal studies, Scalia constantly writes normative laden wag-the-dog opinions while ignobly claiming impartiality. That he is brilliant has obviously deepened his self delusion.
He acts like an altar boy. He writes like an altar boy. Perhaps you are a kindred spirit.
I have read your posts mostly hoping to stumble upon an acorn among the mounds of duff. I will better occupy my time henceforth.
a quote from bennies ministry tour of israel 2013…
“God has directed me to begin A WINDOW INTO ISRAEL to be a revealing, exciting window into what is happening in the Holy Land.”

the bible and Nostradamus both said that satan would be beautiful and that not only israel will be destroyed but that world wide jews will be killed by Gods own words
benny, why do you lie to the nations like that! the United States is the anti christs and I wanted the summer off. it’s only a matter of time untill kerry figures out that they must sell oil and listen to the lies coming from the u.s. about me being…, they have their own prophecies for a reason.

“[Y]ou seem unconcerned about the secular Justices who have power and use it to impose their peculiar hedonistic worldview upon the rest of society.”
Yes, the six Roman Catholics and three Jews on the Court are all very secular — and that notorious hedonist, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wants to make you her love slave by judicial fiat.
davidm2575: “They have maligned the laws of the majority of States[.]”
No, the Court has accorded due respect to the laws of all the states. It’s called federalism.
davidm2575: “this will lead us into more chaos:”
No, it won’t — it safeguards freedom which in the land of liberty can be messy, but it is anything but chaotic — it is riotously beautiful, a thing to be embraced and enjoyed and emulated.

Oro Lee – I think you have been deceived. Please read Scalia’s dissent, as he accurately sees through the sophism of the five Justices.
Justice Scalia wrote:
“There are many remarkable things about the majority’s merits holding. The first is how rootless and shifting its justifications are. For example, the opinion starts with seven full pages about the traditional power of States to define domestic relations—initially fooling many readers, I am sure, into thinking that this is a federalism opinion.”
…
“The sum of all the Court’s nonspecific hand-waving is that this law is invalid (maybe on equal-protection grounds, maybe on substantive-due process grounds, and perhaps with some amorphous federalism component playing a role) because it is motivated by a “‘bare . . . desire to harm’” couples in same-sex marriages.”
In regards to the chaos created by the lie of this SCOTUS decision, Scalia wrote:
“Which State’s law controls, for federal-law purposes: their State of celebration (which recognizes the marriage) or their State of domicile (which does not)? (Does the answer depend on whether they were just visiting in Albany?)”

OS,
Earlier this week I helped transport a schizophrenic experiencing a psychotic episode. Reading AWF’s last post was like taking a similar ride.
I hope (s)he gets help
OL,
Have you seen his blog? I agree he needs help, but the unwell often have no insight into themselves and reject needed assistance.

I am anti Religious. Religious people follow me changing or they burn up in the light of loving truth or run like the wind away from me blocking me. I am a defender of the oppressed and an opener of eyes to the truth. I am a freer of those that are bound by Gods grace. I speak hard words to the people that think they are wise to confound them. My words fly in the face of religions showing them their error which are many swimming against currant thought pricking the conscience of religious people knowing that I speak truth. They accept the sword I swing or they are cut down with it. They misinform people about what hell is thus makes man the giver of wrath. Gods light alone is wrath. That light is comforting to those that chose his way. look at religions that do that as one thing see the face of Satan not the face of God.
Sorry about the typo in the first one.

DavidM:
“Expect more chaos like this because SCOTUS departed from the rule of law and the Constitution…”
************************
Thanks for finally conceding my point that not all law is contained in the Constitution and that the SCOTUS interprets the Rule of Law hence they were correct in their recent rulings overturning DOMA.
But you did sort of completely evade my original point that you haven’t heard from god lately on who he is mean to, so I’ll give you scriptural support for my argument that anyone claiming to hear directly from god is well … full of ….:
The Father who sent Me has Himself testified about Me. You have not heard His voice at any time, and you haven’t seen His form.
~John 5:37
And lest you think the religious nuts have no power, I’ll refer you to George W. Bush and his Bible-Thumping brigade. They had Rove on speed dial.
mespo – I did not evade your bait. I just am not that interested in religion and do not fully understand your infatuation with it.
In regards to DOMA, read Scalia’s and Roberts’ dissents to understand better how wrong the five Justices were in their thinking. You had mentioned a liberty to drink a cup of tea, but if that tea was hallucinogenic and toxic, it might be in the interest of the State to regulate that particular kind of tea. In the case of DOMA, the Justices blindly declare all marriages the same, whether same sex or opposite sex, which is like declaring all tea the same and therefore deserving of equal protection for their use. They do this by fiat without encouraging the democratic process of discussion and debate. They completely ignore the reasons given in case law regarding marriage benefits as having to do with reproduction and the strengthening of families, reasons that do not apply to same sex unions because there is not the consequence of creating children through their sexual behavior. The Justices malign half the country as being filled with hate and malice toward homosexual marriage, not recognizing any of the arguments that there is a distinction between the type of marriage bond formed in same sex unions as compared to opposite sex unions. This is very dangerous ground. They have maligned the laws of the majority of States, basically declaring them unconstitutional if they maintain their definition of marriage to be opposite sex unions. For hundreds of years, we have passed federal laws regarding marriage as being opposite sex marriage, and now those laws have been hijacked to apply to same sex marriage. Scalia has rightly pointed out a few of the problems their cultural zealousness has created. Most of the country will blindly trust the authority of the court, and this will lead us into more chaos.
