Irish Politician Calls Obama A War Criminal And Hypocrite In Parliament

220px-Clare_DalyPresident_Barack_ObamaMany civil libertarians around the world have rallied to support Clare Daly, Irish Parliament member of the United Left Alliance representing Dublin, after she challenged the prime minister and the reception given to President Barack Obama who she called a war criminal. The video of the speech is below. Daly called Obama the “hypocrite of the century” for lecturing children on peace while expanding drone attacks and funding civil wars around the world. Many in the United States particularly took note of her attack on the type of cult of personality surrounding Obama that seems detached from his horrendous record on civil liberties, privacy, and international law.

Daly noted that it is not just the government but the media fueling this cult of personality — spending endless time on what the Obamas were ordering for lunch rather than discussing his authoritarian policies. She is the former Socialist Party Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency but resigned from the Socialist Party and joined the United Left Alliance TD.

Daly is being attacked as immature and radical in her comments.

What do you think?

  1. Two good women down..

The day Elaine, Blouise, and SwM leave the Turley blog will be officially dead.

  2. @Dante – Alex Jones is F.O.S. Mr. Obama is not AUTHORIZING drone strikes on children. He is being assured by the Director of CIA that they will be “surgical strikes” with little or no innocent bystanders (aka collateral damage) killed or injured. For some reason the CIA thinks these drones can’t be seen. However, the camera turret lens gives off a tell-tale sun reflection and everyone on the ground knows it’s coming. So they put in human shields thinking the drone SRO or the DCI will abort the mission. Normally there is no abort due to the high-value-target opportunity that is a one and done deal can’t be replicated later. So would you like HVT in your back yard? This also saves our soldiers and spooks lives. A MQ-1 crashes who cares? You got any better ideas to get the bad-guys before they get us?

  3. That was some fine snark. I particularly liked:

“So, you know, take your time. You’ll want to be able to walk and say a few words. Get potty-trained (though that isn’t really a prerequisite for our politicians). But as soon as you can, we’d like you to become monarch of the United Kingdom of the American States and rule us as an absolute monarch.”

    SOTB,

Can’t … he/she’s dead … but he/she was at the site making lots and lots of guesses

Oh I’m sorry to hear that he got a star on the wall huh? I hope he got the job done and went out fighting… That sucks!

So at least he was active in 1996 during Clinton Admin. Probably was under Deutch. That’s when DCI Colby had that unfortunate “accident” in his kayack (27Apr-96). I guess he was trying to piece together how we missed the Assohola planing this little hat trick on the 8th year anniversary of the Air Airbus A300 incident at Hormuz. At least they got the missile right. Only where it came from was the real eye-opener.

    re link: smarta$$
OK swoop! Way over my head. Explain please. My head is starting to hurt. Too many word alls… 🙂

  5. MM,

Yeah. That’s something I just really don’t understand. I mean I understand the psychology of it, but just not the attraction. We fought a war to get rid of royalty and some still obsess on royalty. Although we have the same media obsession with “celebrity babies”. I’m of the mind “who cares?”

But you should know, your hyperlink is broken.

As a fan of good snark, I was looking forward to the read.

  6. Darren,

You’re being censured….. Why, because you speak your truth…. And the truth has nothing todo with Obama…. Plus you’re a white guy….. Anything you say is wrong…l

  7. Darren,

You nailed it….. No one may critique or critise Herr Obama….. Or Imelda …..

  8. Speaking of personality cults, Gene, no doubt you have seen the latest bizarre manifestation of one now dominating American news broadcasts involving a “personality” — and a foreign one at that — that has only barely emerged from the womb of inbred British aristocracy. Professor Juan Cole has a suitably snarky colonial response here

  9. SWM

So essentially from what you are saying the word “arrogant” is one that cannot be applied to an African American male because it is a racist slant. So educate me, since you say I am culturally unaware, what word is a preferrable replacement to describe an African American as being arrogant? Or is it that these men cannot be called arrogant according to your rules.

But since you see things through racial lenses would I have to be African American in order to call President Obama arrogant? Or Asian in order to mention Imeda Marcos? Well I am part way there I suppose because prior to meeting my wife I dated a woman from South Korea and prior to her a woman from Indonesia who I might have even married. So am I still culturally unaware, a racist or what?

  10. “Your words. In many circles calling a black man ‘arrogant’ is a dog whistle.”

Or . . . it can just mean he’s arrogant. It’s not as if Darren called him “uppity”. Then you might have a leg to stand on. But calling a man who not only abuses the Constitution on a regular basis but does so with impunity “arrogant” isn’t racist. It’s accurate.

  11. I not only loved Heman, but his bobcats as well. And Blouise is right, he was no libertarian.

  12. Swarthmore,
I agree that it is a urban myth that is promulgated on the Right that Michelle Obama is a big spending First Lady. That being said, I do not consider Darren a racist. Many of us who supported Obama do not agree with a lot of what he has done and I have stated that in multiple threads. If anyone thinks that the mass media is giving Obama a free pass, you may want to look at who owns that mass media. I also do not agree that there is a cult of personality involving Obama. I think it is just supporters who do not want to admit that their choice for President has let them down. It is no different from the Bush supporters who saw Bush’s entrance into Iraq and Gitmo and torture through rose colored glasses. A true supporter of anyone or any cause must speak out when their side is not acting properly.

  13. Yep,H enman was great. He voted green and was severely disappointed in Obama. He was no libertarian.

  14. Darren Smith, You will do fine here. I am in the minority and if it weren’t for Blouise, I would be long gone.
