MSNBC Host: “Keep It Right Here On Morning Jew”

200px-Sigmund_Freud_LIFE220px-Mika_BrzezinskiWe have another addition to our series “Perils of the Press.” There are Freudian Slips and then there are Freudian falls from a high cliff. The later seems of a more apt description of MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski mistake this morning. After interviewing Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, Brzezinski said “keep it right here on Morning Jew.”


I honestly hope that people are not too hard on Brzeninski. Such slips have happened to all of us and often tend to be funny, if somewhat embarrassing. When hosts like Brzeninski are juggling scripts and interviews, I am more surprised that such slips do not happen more often.

Freudian slips are actually called parapraxis and thought to be a mistake in speech that reflects some “dynamically repressed” thought. As a juris doctor, I would diagnosis a simple close pronunciation of “Joe” and “Jew” but then again I have so many Freudian slip and falls that I could keep an army of analysts busy for centuries. I once introduced a person who caught me at a speech with a long tirade against the legal system named Coring as “Mr. Boring.” To his credit, even he got a good laugh from that one as my face turned a bright red.

    1. Dredd, et al – it is patent leather shoes. Not sure if patent leather dresses exist, since the leather is lacquered or japanned.

  12. SWM, And marrying into an ethnic, racial, religious, group has the “potential” to make you prejudiced against that group. You stated you were “probably” more sensitive of Jews because your father-in-law is a Jew. “Potentially” is a word I can abide. “Probably” is much more certain, and that is simply not the case. So, if you want to amend your previous remark to you being “potentially” more sensitive to Jews, we can end this right now.

  15. Once again, if we ever decide not to be held hostage by labels other humans give us, the world will improve greatly. My son routinely hears insults about how Arabs should be bombed out of existence. He does not let this apply to him. He considers the source of this thinking refuses to be a party of any sort to this behavior. Call me whatever you want. Just don’t call me a GM fan is all I ask…

  18. I once heard a complete Freudian slip from a co-worker. It went something to the effect of:

    “…you know, those two guys with the white tigers who perform in Las Vegas; Sigmund and Freud.”

  19. SWM, You’re father-in-law was a Jew, in my book. If he cooked knishes, brisket, etc. then he cooked Jewish food. Does PC circumvent grammar? But, your superiority complex is in full display. We adopted a son from Colombia. That does not make me automatically more sensitive to Hispanics than someone who hasn’t. Hell, having in-laws from an ethnic, religious, racial group can just as easily make you more as prejudiced. You folks really put PC before common sense and reality.
