The anti-homosexual movement in Kenya continues this week with an infamous bill that would reportedly allow foreign homosexual people stoned to death in public. The law would allow such executions for foreigners who commit one homosexual act while imposing a life sentence on Kenyan nationals.
The draft bill has proposed that a foreigner who commits a homosexual act be stoned in public, while Kenyan nationals found guilty will be jailed for life.
The draft bill is the work of the Republican Liberty Party and prohibits all forms of sexual relations between people of the same sex. The party’s legal secretary, Edward Onwong’a Nyakeriga, is quoted as saying that “There is need to protect children and youth who are vulnerable to sexual abuse and deviation as a result of cultural changes, uncensored information technology, parentless-child developmental settings and increasing attempts by homosexuals to raise children in homosexual relationships through adoption, foster care or otherwise.”
Only last week, a Ugandan court rejected such a law but did so on the grounds that the Parliament had not met the quorum requirement when passing the law — not as a ruling on individual rights.
The law in Kenya is being supported by an array of religious leaders.
If fundamentalists believe that most homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, then there are also fundamentalists who believe some is congenital. That’s what you imply. I’m not a fundamentalist or a homophobe, but the twin studies convinced me that homosexuality is similar to alcoholism. There is a genetic component that can give someone a propensity toward homosexuality, but there also are environmental issues and cognitive issues. It is pretty clear that many choices that a person makes in life, whether one is labeled homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, or asexual, determines the course of their sexual development. Also, considering the sexual studies such as Kinsey and others, it is pretty clear that sexuality is a continuum and not easily categorized as homosexual vs heterosexual. The homosexual vs heterosexual meme is a political tool to further all forms of sexuality and hedonism in the name of equality for all.
The advocates for recognizing homosexuality, bisexuality, mis-sexuality (born to the wrong sex) as ways of being human do not infringe in any way on the rights of heterosexual persons.
No, DavidM, no societal destruction. Just recognition that there are a multitude of ways of being human. Not everyone the same as in a melting pot but as distinct as croutons on a salad.
Most of what it is to be a human being being human is interactions with other human beings being human in their own way too..

They must be reasoning that by outlawing imports, alternative lifestyle will, by attrition, eventually go away on its own, without having to kill any of the gay relatives of legislators.

No, Josh, I don’t think you should be executed, although if you have good sense you will stay out of countries which don’t see things my way. I do think you should avoid promiscuous and risky behaviors which have the same effect as a death sentence for about 20% of you.

I don’t know many details about this, but generally speaking, I think any citizen is free to influence politicians either in this country or another country.

I have mixed feelings about it Annie. When I see how homosexual advocates are destroying our society for future generations, I think that perhaps if inappropriate sexual behavior, such as adultery and homosexuality, were criminalized then it would lead to a healthier society. But on the other hand, at this point in time, perhaps such is not something our society can handle. Therefore, I cannot find it in myself to advocate for criminalizing homosexuality, but neither can I condemn another country for doing it.
It used to be that young people found identity in good character. Now people find their identity in sexual relations. That is sad.

In Kenya you can have three wives. In New York you go to jail for having three wives if you married in the States, but you could male to male marry a boyfriend, but risk a death sentence if you dock in Mombasa on your honeymoon. This gives an idea how silly these viewpoint crimes are.
By the way, are they limiting the proposed stoning? Any stoning is a bad idea for the most part but there is stoning with a limited size and number of stones, stoning for a limited time, stoning until unconscious or stoning to death. Its all pretty backward, like the old navies and cat of nine tails; sometimes they keel hauled a person once and he did not always survive.

Africa has lost its way since the Europeans hurriedly handed over power (limited, as they had to stay under the IMF mafia yoke) in the sixties. Britain did a better job than the others but still started them off with bad eggs like Obote in Uganda, my childhood country. People confuse preferences and complete dislikes with law. They should know that their own penchant could also be banned, ridiculed and their lives put in jeopardy.
