In another example of bizarre and horrific treatments of children by relatives the Lincoln County Missouri Sheriff’s Office accuses a family of staging a frightening kidnapping of their six year old son because they believed he was being too friendly with strangers and needed to be taught a lesson.
Several felony charges later, the family is now being taught that lesson in the county jail.
Deputies say that the child’s aunt, Denise Kroutil, made arrangements for a colleague, Nathan Firoved, to scare the boy by agreeing to stage a mock kidnapping.
Firoved is accused by the sheriff’s office of luring the boy into a car just after he left a school bus. He then took the boy to his residence’s basement where he then told the boy he would “never see his mommy again,” and that he would be “nailed to the wall of a shed.”

The threats continued with allegedly showing the boy a firearm, covering the boy’s head with a jacket, binding his hands and feet, and threatening him as he was crying in distress. And to further add to the horror in the child he pulled down the boy’s pants and proclaimed the boy would be sold into sex slavery.
After this terrible experience the child was eventually released from his restraints and lectured about the dangers of talking to strangers. One can only imagine how horrible strangers must be to this family if this is the sort of loving treatment they believe their son deserves.
The event came to light when the boy reported the incident to school officials who then contacted authorities.
“Family members told investigators their primary intent was to educate the victim and felt they did nothing wrong,” a statement from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
News reports state that Firoved, his grandmother, Rose Brewer, and Ms. Kroutil have been charged with kidnapping, restraint, as well as abuse and neglect of a child.
The boy’s mother, Elizabeth Hupp, has been charged with kidnapping and abuse and neglect.

I don’t know if this is such a big deal. I mean even the Pope who seems to be the darling of the progressives thinks it is ok to smack your kids.
So a fake kidnapping doesn’t sound so bad in comparison to a Papel beat down.
I don’t believe anyone is saying that parents can engage in illegal behaviour when it comes to their children. No one condones the cruel actions of these people and they are definitely guilty of child abuse.
However, since this is a legal blog, to be able to convict the custodial parent(s) of kidnapping is going to be pretty difficult to do. Child abuse, yes! Kidnapping your own child while in your custody…not so much.
Since, it seems from the article, that the mother gave her consent to these actions she can’t be accused of “kidnapping”. If it were that the aunt and other relatives, who are NOT custodial, did this without her consent, then I would think that they could be accused of legally kidnapping the child. But since it was the mother who granted permission….I don’t see how you can also claim kidnapping against the other morons in this scenario.
They should all be punished, sent to jail…something….for child abuse. And as I said earlier, generally think that keeping children in the family, except in the most egregious, lost case conditions, is better for small children…..in this case I think that the child should be moved to a situation where the adults surrounding the child are not all irrational idiots on the left hand side of the IQ bell curve.

What you’re doing now is trying to skirt your way around an open admission that you were horribly, horribly off base in your assumption that parents are allowed to engage in illegal behavior where there children are concerned.
I understand that, since I would be mortified if I’d expressed such a cruel and inhumane position, one that has most likely been expressed before somewhere in the pages of Mein Kampf. However, this being the Lord’s day, the day set aside for serial killers, kiddy fiddlers and yourself to humble yourselves before the baby Jesus and repent for your heinous crimes, I will again selflessly offer you the opportunity to admit that you are a loony tune that is way out of order for not prostrating yourself before my great wisdom.
Here’s your shot at redemption. Don’t blow it.
Anarchist 2.0 – in the interests of engaging with trollers and keeping the numbers high on this site, I will dismiss the ad hominem attacks as standard trolling tactics.
As I said, children cannot give permission, but their parents can and do give permission for their children. A mother does not have to get permission from anyone to that her daughter to the store, etc. And that permission can be transferred to other responsible people, older siblings, baby-sitters, and relatives. Parental rights (the rights over the child) are transferred to schools who operate under in locus parentis. Even with that, they still need parental permission for anything off the campus of the school, field trips, sports, etc.
“the family is now being taught that lesson in the county jail.”
Jails and prisons, those great places where you enjoy putting humans to teach them lessons. Because it works so well….
Why TJustice
That’s a redneck jail. I bet they get cornbread and greens with their steak and hot biscuits and gravy and TV

” If you are the custodial parent you can take them wherever you want. ”
Let’s cut through the BS-
“Missouri Revised Statutes
←565.100 Section 565.110.1
565.110. 1. A person commits the offense of kidnapping in the first degree if he or she unlawfully removes another person without his or her consent from the place where he or she is found or unlawfully confines another person without his or her consent for a substantial period, for the purpose of:
(5) Inflicting physical injury on or terrorizing the victim or another. ”
It seems pretty clear that the kidnapping charge is warranted.
My question is, why would you assume parents have a right to do that to their children?
Anarchist 2.0 – just to clear the BS out of this, children cannot give consent.
paul-
“I really think the authorities have over-reached on the kidnapping.”
Why is that? The general legal definition of kidnapping is “the unlawful taking away or transportation of a person against that person’s will”.
It seems like a clear case of kidnapping to me, unless you know the missouri statutes and there is some qualification allowing families to engage in the above mentioned behavior because they are related. However, that seems to me to be as improbable as the law allowing murder because the victim was related to the assailant.
Anarchist 2.0 – the key is ‘unlawful’. If you are the custodial parent you can take them whereever you want. Even to the dentist.
Yes indeed, psychopaths make some pretty unsuitable parents.
Oh my God, his own mother was involved.
When a parent is the person who traumatizes, terrorizes, and harms the child, that is a kind of betrayal that can leave lasting damage.
That poor little boy. This is so terrible. The lesson he learned is that he can’t trust his own family.
Who is going to raise him? It sounds like his entire family are all psychopaths.
My Dad taught me a lesson once, not to play with the stereo. He placed me on the turntable and set it to 78, but it didn’t bother me, bother me, bother me, bother me…….
issac – did it bother you when you dad wopped you for acting like a broken record, record, record …???
Glad to see “Thomas” has disappeared. Good work.
This whole discourse reminds me of the once trendy college students insulting-&-circle-jerk-marathons…..
Excuse me? I most certainly did NOT say I was done commenting here. Sorry, lol, “Thomas”. I will comment when the spirit hits and I feel it’s worth commenting. Your nasty comment just displayed your own rudeness in someone else’s “home”.

The treatment of this child reeks of uneducated, backwoods jerks. No thought of the damage they may incur on the child that would traumatize him for a decade or longer. The Purpose: Just teach him a lesson without any thought of negative consequences. They should serve some time in confinement if for no other reason but to teach them a lesson that kids are very vulnerable and what they did could scar him forever unless he receives help from someone sane. Poor kid probably can’t trust anyone after this stupid trick. Family is supposed to be the ones he turns to for comfort and protection. ………. Yep, this truly is the work of deranged, backwoods neanderthals.
believer – if they can prove the are “deranged, backwoods neanderthals” they probably have a solid defense.
This seems a pretty harsh way to teach such a small child a lesson on “stranger danger”. How can he trust anyone in the future. Your family is supposed to protect you….and part of that protection is to teach you how to be aware and protect yourself. This is just cruelty and mental torture.
I hope this poor child can be helped and while I don’t usually say this….perhaps being removed from this toxic stew of morons might be a good thing for him.
Lincoln Co Mo is a center of inbred Rednecks. They tattoo Redneck on their necks just so you know.
And Doc Pogo, you seriously think no Republican women ever had an abortion?
Inga – I think a study is in order. Elective abortions by political affiliation.
Doc Pogo, you sure need to brush up on the stages of development.
INFANTS? You’re a doc, you don’t know the difference?
Boy, you walked right into that one.
