As my children constantly lament, I have long been a fan of country music. Accordingly, I could not resist this tempest in a teapot over at MSNBC where the network has had to apologize for the comments of Ebony.com senior editor Jamilah Lemieux who was mocking the statement of Senator Ted Cruz that he switched from rock to country music after 9/11. Lemieux quipped “nothing says ‘let’s go kill some Muslims’ like country music.” Yikes. Lemieux’s comments came on the MSNBC program “Now with Alex Wagner” and she appeared with Michael Steele and Joan Walsh. Lemieux added, “Fresh from Lynchburg, Virginia, so he obviously doesn’t want to be a polarizing candidate, he wants to bring people together. That’s absurd.” This would be akin to saying “nothing says ‘let’s go kill some cops’ like rap music.” As a country music fan, I will only note that country music is far more likely to be singing about your typical Cheatin’ heart than your Chechen rebels. Visiting host Ari Melber did note at the time “Well, but I mean, there’s plenty of country music that doesn’t have that message.” Melber later ended “We have a programming note. A few minutes ago on this program, a guest made a comment about country music that was not appropriate, and we want to be clear this network does not condone it.” In the end, it was a joke, folks. Country music will survive. After all, we know how to say goodbye to those who do not appreciate us. . .

One of the few country western singers worth listening to.
And here is a slightly different take on country music:
Oh, and black folks too! I first saw both of the above groups on the Jools Holland show, which is probably hidden on your cable somewhere on the Palladium channel:

OK, I will stop posting music videos now. Or at least I will try.

Oh, and plus, even yankees can sing country music. This singer is from Brooklyn, and lives now in New Orleans, I think. Trust me, this song is really worth listening to:

Trooper, The leftists here lament JT moving from MSNBC to Fox. The man just wanted people to hear what he has to say!!
LOL! The scene when the Brothers are playing in this bar is also classic.
This is why MSNBC is such a great success.
Here is one of favorite new country singers, Lindi Ortega, and her song doesn’t harm any animals, including Muslim terrorists:

He don’t have too many more feet to stuff in his mouth, and after only one week.
Legendary ( and often volatile) drummer Buddy Rich was asked by one of his nurses in his final few few days if he had any complaints.
Rich responded “I still hate Country and Western”.
“Rich responded “I still hate Country and Western”.”
Must have never had the pleasure of listening to western swing music – tragedy.
It is a pleasant surprise to me that JT likes country music. I grew up in the northeast, where there is little of that genre. It was a bit of a culture shock when I moved to KC as a young man and heard so much. I’ve never been a fan per se, but I have come to appreciate the music, in part because my daughter became a fan in high school. IMHO, one of the greatest songs ever recorded is Hank Williams, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry. What I really appreciate about the genre is how down to earth and fan friendly most of the country stars are. I’ve also found country fans to be more eclectic, appreciating different genres more than fans of other genres. Maybe that’s because, like blues, it is part of all other contemporary music. Elvis was the catalyst.
So I suppose she’s not a fan of the homage to our military, “I’m Proud to Be an American”.
There is an appropriate song in country music about this commentator’s view of the genre:
Jonathan’s selection (“Get Your Tingue…”) has lyrics which are more or less Country, but the music is distinctly and very decidedly Bluegrass.
“A few minutes ago on this program, a guest made a comment about country music that was not appropriate, and we want to be clear this network does not condone it.””
No, I think their ratings have tanked and they are vainly trying to pretend they have a ‘centrist’ ideal.
But MSNBC is simply a Democrat operative organization with a byline.
It is not a news station so much as a Democrat chat show geared to rally the troops or disseminate the talking points of the day.
They do not exist to report anything, but to interpret news through a Democrat lens.
Fox, CNN,NPR, NYTimes, WaPo, NBC, et al, are no different, to lesser or greater degrees, though MSNBC tends to be the most outrageously partisan.
The veneer of being fair/balanced/unbiased in the news business, is “a custom
more honored in the breach than the observance.”
I do not watch or read any US national news media for that reason.
I’ll read what others post about their work, but no more than that.
The idea that news can and might be above the fray is perhaps so unreasonable as to be disregarded altogether.
I think this is the one you are looking for:

Strange how this joke gets notable mention, but an article about hundreds of thousands of Muslims immigrating into the USA gets overlooked.
“It’s a huge surge under Obama. In the last three years, he’s averaged 100,000 new immigrants from Muslim nations a year. That is very alarming. It’s more than we’re importing both from Central America and Mexico combined. This is a big shift in immigration flows.”

country music is full off shit though ….i dislike it just as i do rap.
I’ll give credit to the MSNBC host for not laughing and for immediately acknowledging it was inappropriate for the guest to say that. So kudos for not falling into the typical trap of educated and progressive and arrogant enough to think bigotry, racism and sexism is okay as long it is directed at southerners and they keep donating to the correct causes.
