A McKinney, Texas police officer has been suspended pending review after the posting of a videotape where he draws his gun and manhandles a group of teenagers outside of a pool party. The officer has been identified as Cpl. Eric Casebolt and he is shown being verbally and physically abusive toward young people who are not clearly doing anything unlawful.
The pulling out of the gun is a rapid escalation in a call over a dispute between a mother and a girl at the party. The McKinney Police Department’s Facebook page states that officers responded to a “disturbance” at the Craig Ranch North community pool at 7:15 p.m. It added that the juveniles at the scene “do not live in the area or have permission to be there.” It further says that people failed to respond to orders and officers struggled to “gain control of the situation.”

Casebolt,40, is a 10-year-veteran and serves as a vice president of McKinney’s police union. He received an award for “Patrolman of the Year” in 2008. The Washington Post reports that he is an instructor at Executive Self-Defense and Fitness and has a website that heralds his “ strong working knowledge of human behavior” and “experience in the use of all levels of force.” As is often the case, people have collected various pictures of Casebolt though the one dressed as an Indian chief at a party seems to be the favorite. That is part of the reality of the world of social media today.
Do you consider this level of force to be justified?
Anderson Cooper spent an hour on the story tonight. The cop resigned. Then Anderson was delving into whether or not he should get to keep his pension and other earned benefits.
Earlier I posted a comment which is “awaiting moderation”. This is a civil blog and a civil rights blog on top of that. Everything in moderation– including moderation– not only in Saudi Arabia but here.
God made rifles for a reason.
No virgins.
No volcanos
No Sharpton
No zombies
No mob.
No fires
But there were dangerous WAISTBANDS.
There were REBELLIOUS youths.
There were LIKELIHOODS
Now let’s wait and see if there is a gofundme
P.S. Darren Wilson’s ruined life netted him a half million dollars. That ought to get him back on his feet until he lands a nice comfy security job.
great
Squeeky – the Brits have a saying “I have just been pi**ed on from a very get height.”
Squeeky – that is an apt metaphor.
How’s this for unbelievable irony?
Gigi Le Paz says we are a real lynch mob (at 7:48) and longs for the good old days when the pool party incident would just be a passing small town incident – unknown by the rest of the county.
Well – my goodness!
Just like actual lynchings!
Gigi – may you continue to offer us your life lessons.

He assaulted several people, what’s the charge for that? Assault and battery? Did he illegally detain these kids?
It is called a Terry Stop and is allowed by the Supreme Court. There is no illegal detention. Even those who did not go to a Jesuit school would know that.
It wasn’t a high crime area, Paul.

Who knows whether this behavior, on the part of the officer, was justified? One thing is for damn sure: we’ll never know. The investigation, which would entail interviewing countless witnesses, couldn’t have possibly been performed as of yet. Why confuse those demanding that a full and complete inquiry be performed with those who blindly defend the actions of this officer? An intelligent person would be able to differentiate between the two. The remarks on this thread show that to be in short supply. The police officer, who chose to resign, did so, I assume, because he values his life and the lives of his loved ones. He also values his town and its residents and doesn’t want his city torn apart by some real or imaginary misconduct attributed to him or his department. This job isn’t worth fighting for if it means that everything is on the line. Ask Officer Darren Wilson, whose life has been inextricably changed forever, and he was not found guilty of behaving inappropriately. A no win situation. The mobs would never have been satisfied with a finding that this officer was acting appropriately, and the officer knows this. A resignation, contrary to what some may assume, does not necessarily imply guilt. A simple cost/benefit analysis. The chief obviously used the same analysis. Throw this guy under the bus, before the requisite inquiry has been allowed to run its course, and let this officer take one for the team. Save the town. Save the businesses. Save the residents. Chalk one up for mob rule. Mob rule, 1, Justice, 0.
Here it is, just as we suspected, bam bam, the smoking-gun-video admission:
“McKinney Police Cpl. Eric Casebolt, who was under investigation, ‘resigned on his own will,’ police Chief Greg Conley said at a news conference. He called Casebolt’s actions ‘indefensible.’
“As the video shows, he was out of control during the incident,” Conley said, “I had 12 officers on the scene and 11 of them performed according to their training.” [emphasis added]
“He said the internal investigation into Casebolt’s actions is now over, as he is no longer a department employee. But a decision hasn’t yet been made regarding possible criminal charges, Conley said, according to the AP.” [emphasis added]

Is someone here unaware that Thomas Paine is dead?

the adage “actions speak louder than words” is even older, and just as true, as “nobody lies like a cop!”
but in this case, the particular piece of excrement formerly known as police officer eric casebolt has figured out that he just doesn’t have what it takes to be an honest, honorable and valued police officer. he has resigned in disgrace.
yep. that’s before any trial, or formal investigation findings.
why, that’s just like tricky dicky nixon!
and it’s only the goofy right-wing cop apologists who defend him, and think that this is wrong. lol!
but sure enough, sooner or later, casebolt will become a wannabe cop / former cop / private investigator, and a featured contributor to the fox noise network.
:::: shudder ::::
I thought we may need to borrow the Kreskin bonnet in order to divine what motivated Cpl. Casebolt’s resignation.
But no need. Kreskin has spoken. It’s to preserve his pension. It wasn’t the all powerful Sharpton or the burning of businesses in McKinney. Nor even the terrifying LIKELIHOOD of Sharpton or zombie hoards.
No. We have the answer from the all powerful, all knowing Kreskin (descended from the all powerful Oz). It’s the preservation of the pension.
@PaulCS
True. But she is blaaaack! So therefore, we must not judge her by her behavior, but by her color. According to the liberal bigots here.

“I saw no one on this thread vociferously defending this officer. What I did notice were several people calling for a thorough and complete investigation to be allowed to take its course before anyone is unjustly convicted and condemned in the public arena. That’s not being a fool. Far from it. The poorly shot video only gives a glimpse into what may have occurred and does not give a complete picture of the entire episode.”
Will you be calling for an investigation of the investigation, bam bam?
I mean, how could Officer Casebolt be forced to resign only one day after the pool party video was posted online, if there had been a proper investigation?
What is going on here? Has this public servant been railroaded by his own police department without a thorough investigation into all the circumstances surrounding his heroic attempts to restore law and order at Craig North Ranch?
Wait… you don’t suppose…no surely not, yet, yet it must be considered a possibility that the officials who conducted the investigation watched the video we’ve been discussing.
But how on earth could they have drawn any conclusions from watching that video when it was all shaky and stuff and didn’t cover any of the days leading up to Officer Casebolt’s struggle with the forces of darkness that had overrun the residential complex?
If you decide to write to the McKinney Police Chief a scathing letter demanding Officer Casebolt’s immediate reinstatement to rectify this obvious travesty of justice, until a thorough investigation can be done, will you please post a copy of it in this thread?
I’d love to read it.
I think they offered Casebolt a very nice golden parachute.
“I think they offered Casebolt a very nice golden parachute.”
Is that just wistful thinking on your part or do you have a cite to suggest that is true?
bfm – if they did a full investigation and then fired him after a full hearing, he has all sorts of rights. It is cheaper to give him a golden parachute, let him resign and they get to say he was a ‘bad boy.’
You see here is the problem.
There is no Sharpton.
There is no riot.
(Are we really supposed to be terrified now by merely saying “LIKELIHOOD”?)
There are no fires.
There is no volcano.
There is no virgin.
But who knows…
Let me try on that Kreskin bonnet and see if there is a gofundme.
May the KKK rally begin! Oh look, there is a female there too…..

If you weren’t such a bigot, you would call them feral, too. But, you treat people differently because of their color. which is the very “nightmare” that Martin Luther King so disliked- – -judging people by the color of their skin, instead of the content of their character.
You, and yours, are just the flip side of the old KKK, segregationist coin. They saw all blacks as “niggers.” Didn’t matter if they were doctors, or lawyers, or pilots who flew against the Nazis. They were black, sooo they were “niggers”. Back to the end of the bus!
Then comes your breed of white folks, and it’s the same thing all over again.. To you, all “niggers” are blacks. If the dude is looting a liquor store, or walking off with a handful of shoes, he is a black man out there because of Jim Crow, and slavery, and George Wallace, or whatever. Got six kids by six different baby mammas—oh well, we should all accept that families come in all shapes and sizes, or whatever. You don’t see black criminals as criminals—you see the whole black race in a racist monolithic fashion exactly the same as the klansman..
Fortunately, there is the Internet, and now we have a lot of literate black people saying the things that white people can’t say for fear of being called racists. You racist!

bam, I coach baseball. Sometimes, when the game is on the line, and you need a base runner, you take one for the team. You’re up @ bat and let a pitch hit you. Or, you lean into one. This cop took one for the team. It’s about winning. The city of McKinney just dodged a Sharpton invasion. That’s always a win!
