A McKinney, Texas police officer has been suspended pending review after the posting of a videotape where he draws his gun and manhandles a group of teenagers outside of a pool party. The officer has been identified as Cpl. Eric Casebolt and he is shown being verbally and physically abusive toward young people who are not clearly doing anything unlawful.
The pulling out of the gun is a rapid escalation in a call over a dispute between a mother and a girl at the party. The McKinney Police Department’s Facebook page states that officers responded to a “disturbance” at the Craig Ranch North community pool at 7:15 p.m. It added that the juveniles at the scene “do not live in the area or have permission to be there.” It further says that people failed to respond to orders and officers struggled to “gain control of the situation.”

Casebolt,40, is a 10-year-veteran and serves as a vice president of McKinney’s police union. He received an award for “Patrolman of the Year” in 2008. The Washington Post reports that he is an instructor at Executive Self-Defense and Fitness and has a website that heralds his “ strong working knowledge of human behavior” and “experience in the use of all levels of force.” As is often the case, people have collected various pictures of Casebolt though the one dressed as an Indian chief at a party seems to be the favorite. That is part of the reality of the world of social media today.
Do you consider this level of force to be justified?
And then I’m going to publish “How to Prevent A Mob From Burning Your Town Down For Dummies” with a single sentence, “Wait for a thorough investigation and the results before protesting peacefully.”
It will be a best seller. I just know it. Al Sharpton will call it racist, which will drive readers to me out of curiosity.
OK, I’ve gotten my frustration out of my system now. 🙂
Randyjet:
“As usual Darren Smith gets it right and he is a real cop and from what I understand an incipient lawyer too.”
Do you mean his remark that we should wait for an investigation, which in his opinion will likely not go well for the officer?
Have I mentioned we should have an investigation? I am going to write that backwards and plaster it on city buses, so the reverse word PC police can absorb it. Then I’m going to get air time and have Anthony Hopkins and Hellen Mirren say in their most soothing, cultured voice to “wait for an investigation” as a public service announcement, playing every 15 minutes in places like Chicago, Baltimore, and Ferguson to instill a Pavlovian response to the next Internet crisis so we don’t end up like the Middle East, where people are burned to death by mobs for alleged crimes without trial.
Karen, As a former union official, I always want a hearing for any person, and I assume the chief of police had a sit down with the cop involved before he suspended him too. As Darren said, it sure looks does not look good for the cop now. The other cops acted as they should have and I hope the chief demanded a drug test too so we can get the whole story. I wish that you were not so gullible as to the “horror” stories manufactured ex post facto to justify illegal actions on the part of the cop. I was wondering what CRIME the girl in the bikini could have committed as she was leaving the scene as the COP TOLD HER to do. Maybe you can tell us all what CRIME she did that would justify her being dragged back and thrown to the ground. If you do not have an answer for that, you are as guilty as the cop in justifying the indefensible.
randyjet – the video does not show everyone there, or everything that happened. I don’t know what happened, and neither do you. As I’ve said before, I have grave concerns about the officer’s actions. I require an investigation to be thorough and fair. At first I thought why in the world would he draw his firearm on teenagers, and then allegations arose that there were break-ins, a stolen and wrecked truck, fights, and then this series of photos showing that man approach the police officer.
I have another question. Was the alcohol provided by the underage host and her mother, leading to questions on her parenting, or was this a spontaneous BYOB and weed? Was alcohol and marijuana even there? All we have are FB posts, snippets of videos, and the Internet exploding.
I cannot tell one way or the other if the officer was justified, and I can’t even watch the entire video for the reasons stated above.
I don’t understand why waiting for an investigation is considered unreasonable, but clearly on this thread it is an outrageous position to some.
I am curious what the protocol is for an IA investigation, or whatever method they are currently using. I assume the officer is on leave during the investigation, because that’s how it’s handled in LA. But I don’t know if all departments are the same in that aspect. If the cop is on leave while they do an investigation, then he’s not a threat to anyone via abusing authority.
People all over the web are calling for his termination, criminal charges, and basically his head. We do not rule by a mob. The Caucasian man in the video is allegedly receiving death threats, even though he claims he rendered aid to two of the teenagers.
We are supposed to have a system of justice. These calls for skipping an investigation are very troubling… The irony is some of these comments demanding we skip an investigation are occurring on a legal blog.
Ken Rogers:
“No investigation into the history of this pool party incident, no matter what such an investigation might reveal, is going to change by one iota the facticity of the documented brutal behavior of the city employee for whose documented behavior his employment was suspended.”
Oh, you mean the series of photographs which shows a man approach the cop, reach behind his back, and then the cop draws his weapon is immaterial to determining why the cop would draw his weapon on teenagers? No investigation needed?
At some point, you may find yourself in a disciplinary hearing or get arrested. Hopefully, those involved will not take your view, that no investigation is needed.
There is no risk to finding out all the facts in an investigation. If the cop was proven to have engaged in misconduct, then ensure the rules apply to him. If not, then an innocent man is cleared. You lose nothing by finding out all the facts. If what you care about is justice, then you get an investigation.
Ask yourself why aren’t the other cops running around also grabbing kids and throwing them to the ground? Why is it ONLY that corporal who is doing all this? The reason is quite obvious. THERE WAS NO CRIMINAL ACTION justifying an arrest! The crazy cop just thinks that he has the right to arrest any black person on the spot for no reason at all. He is even worse, when he never says that they are under arrest! He has to do that at least, and he cannot even follow the law in that! So we have about seven or so kids in handcuffs, and only one real arrest! Incredible!
IMHO, conservative bigots are generally much more reliable than liberal bigots.

Yet another supposed example of racism that falls apart as the facts come in.
Remember, SJWs always lie.
Megan Kelly had a guy on who said the cops ran out of handcuffs.

White kid who videotaped the scene speaks out.
“The cops showed up and the parents immediately started yelling, ‘you need more cops, there’s too many of them.’ And most of the kids weren’t even involved. It was a fight between a mom and girl, which had nothing to do with all the other kids that she apparently needed more cops for,” Brooks explained.
That’s when Brooks says the officer, reportedly identified as Cpl. Eric Casebolt, arrived on the scene and flipped out.
“He trips and drops his flashlight. He’s going crazy, putting people in handcuffs, tackling people, slinging them on the ground.”
So, why wasn’t Brooks handcuffed?”
OMG, Little Miss Sassy A$$ black gal gets her butt thrown on the ground and you would think it’s the Holocaust all over again. Some of you people are just nuts.

There are a sad number of commenters here who have apparently been sufficiently brutalized in their own lives, probably as children themselves, that they are simply inured to brutality when incontrovertible evidence of it is staring them in the face.
Their consciousness (and their consciences) have been damaged to the point that they can watch a video of a grown man verbally assaulting and brutally manhandling children, and either deny altogether that the children are being brutalized or insist that some antecedent behavior of those children or of one or more adults somehow justifies the brutalization of those children.
No investigation into the history of this pool party incident, no matter what such an investigation might reveal, is going to change by one iota the facticity of the documented brutal behavior of the city employee for whose documented behavior his employment was suspended.
The pathetic attempts to exonerate that employee on the basis of hypothetical or alleged events extraneous to his documented interaction with the children in the video quite obviously constitute implicit or explicit endorsements of police brutality.
Fortunately, the police chief of the McKinney Police Department seems to be willing to believe his lying eyes, unlike some of JT’s intrepidly authoritarian commenters.
Ken Rogers – you are a special snowflake aren’t you. You would have never made it in the Marine Corps.
Regarding music – I know someone playing loud Rap music or Heavy Metal would drive *me* away. I just find it funny that Classical music and Hank Williams can have the same effect.
On different types of people.
Hmmm. Maybe more like, multiplying like pickaninnies at a pool party.

If the officer made one mistake, its going into the crowd by himself and trying to arrest everyone. There should have been someone there right beside him. I read there were 12 policeman there, but I don’t know where the other 11 were. That’s why the gun got drawn, two “youths” were sneaking up behind him with hostile intent. They wouldn’t have done that if he’d had a wingman.
rcocean – it appears that one of the other officers backed him up when he drew his weapon which is why he reholstered. The link from the constervativetreehouse.com has a step by step break down of that action. Very interesting.
A party for teens, did you say? Alcohol provided? Nice. Sounds legal to me.
Bikini girl got manhandled because she disobeyed the officer and then resisted being handcuffed. Again and again we get these avoidable situations because people – usually black for some reason – will not just comply with officer instructions or insist ob physically assaulting or resisting the police officer.
I feel absolutely no sympathy for someone so braindead as Bikini girl or Mike Brown or whoever. Just shut up and let them put the cuffs on. Later, you can sue for false arrest, if its true.
My God, what happened to this blog? Racists and bigots multiplying like cockroaches in a flop house.
Oh, and lest we forget, sometimes black folks can behave themselves quite well at parties:

If some of you goobers will bother reading the link at conservative tree house, you notice that the party was at a PUBLIC area NEXT TO THE POOL. It was NOT at the PRIVATE pool itself. The feral blacks jumped the fence to get to the pool. That is the way I read it.

randyjet:
“If you look on the tape one of the girls mentioned that they were there for a pool party and that they had PASSES. So somebody went to the trouble of notifying somebody at the place. In short most of you are lying bigots who will justify any crime against blacks.”
The underage event host charged $15 admission for an alcohol party. Were the “passes” the event tickets, or permits from the HOA? No one knows at this point if the young lady went through the proper procedure, but even if she did, the permit limits the event to 20 people, which she exceeded. Plus there are allegations about break ins, an out of control stolen truck, fights, racial slurs. No matter how you look at it, this party was out of control, and there are allegations of misconduct against everyone involved, including the responding officers.
I do not think it is racist or unreasonable to wait for an investigation. If you want justice, you wait for all the facts to come in with a thorough investigation. If you just want violence, or ruining someone’s life based on allegation, then you skip the investigation and go straight to punishment and castigation by public opinion.
So you have to ask yourself if you want justice, or something else.
Karen S
Exactly.
Karen, You take as good coin the lies that are put forward by the bigots. If I were there and some punks were blasting rap or other crap like that, it would NOT take me HOURS to call the cops. Now for me to believe that a redneck bunch would put up with that for as long as I would, which is about ten minutes if that much, is beyond belief. Then we have the charging admission in an open field, again, you gotta be kidding.
I suggest you do a head count in the video to see how many kids were there and I don’t think it will be over twenty. The big white guy does not count or the cops. I read another story in the Business international paper, and it had a fair assessment that most of the kids had passes, but that some party crashers jumped over the fence and were asked to leave by the others, which is where the racial remarks came in. A simple solution which is call the cops to get them to leave.
One person here noticed that the corporal was ALL by himself, running around like a chicken with his head off. He tells two black kids to get down in the middle of the street and they are stupid enough to do it. Then they and the cop realize it is pretty DUMB and they move to the side. Then the cop tells a group of girls to get out, they start leaving, and the cop grabs the girl in the bikini and drags her back and throws her to the ground. He NEVER says you are under arrest to any person. He simply thinks he can grab and handcuff any person he chooses. The other cops are wondering what this fool is doing It is so clear from this tape that the corporal is so out of control that even his own chief suspended him I would think a drug test would be in order to see if he was not hopped up on some drug. The other kids all call the cops SIR and one even picks up the nutty cops flashlight and returns it to the other officer. That is hardly showing contempt for the cops. The only cop who got well deserved contempt is the cop who is suspended. If I were a cop, I would be afraid to work with that guy since he might shoot me under a stressful incident.
As usual Darren Smith gets it right and he is a real cop and from what I understand an incipient lawyer too.
When we were kids the cops were routinely called to bust up our beach parties. They would stroll in amid slurs and groans and confiscate the beer and other alcohol. Then on their way out they would state that if we were there when they came back we would be going down town. Tough cops, getting free beer, laying down the law, and giving us a chance to back off, all the while letting teenage lip roll off their shoulders. What happened to them guys.
This guy needs a vacation or therapy.
