As ISIS prepares to destroy another priceless ancient city, it is adding to its atrocities in the rape and enslavement of Yazidi and Christian girls and women in Iraq. Various news sites are reporting that the Islamic militants are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan by holding a contest to memorize the Koran. The top three prizes are girl slaves or “sibyl.”
The fundamentalist Sunni group follows the Koran literally and thus believes that Muslim men have the right to female slaves. The announcement was made on Twitter and lists money prizes for those not receiving female slaves. It tells competitors to come to one of four mosques including the “Mosques of Abu Bakr el-Sadiq, The Mosque of Osama Bin Laden, The Mosque of Abu Musab el-Zarqawi or The Mosque of el-Taqwa, and listed prizes, including “slave girls” and Syrian currency amounting to $500 and less. It concludes with “We ask the great lord to make your life easier and to grant you with what he loves and what pleases him.”
In any other war, such stories would be dismissed as wildly manufactured and untrue. However, ISIS appears intent on shocking the world and conveying that it will not yield to international criticism in its creation of its view of a pure Islamic state. The enslavement and rape of Christian and Yazidi girls is well-documented. Indeed, ISIS has published price guidelines for such captives with women 40 and 50 years old sold for just $40, girls between 10 and 20 years old auctioned for $129 each, and children under 10 commanding higher prices. A United Nation envoy has documented girls and women being traded for as little as a pack of cigarettes as they are passed around ISIS fighters as war prizes.

One more thing Dave, that comment implies ANY Christian justly deserves the horror inflicted upon them as a result of the actions of others throughout history. Any belief can be perverted to give the appearance of just cause and that is not the result of the belief; that is the result of the perverted mind. Your comments are exactly why I lean so heavily on promoting inalienable rights. A society that respects the inalienable rights of others can exist under any belief. Those rights exist for the Theist as well as the Atheist and it is the infringement of those rights that is the measure of how perverted the belief has become.

These people are living out their faith in a manner that truly reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Gospels. If that faith binds them as a community and instructs their character in a manner that will heal the festering wound that race-baiters simply don’t want to heal then we should not malign their motives. You presume theirs is an “arbitrary” forgiveness which begs the question, how would you know what is in their hearts? The fact you want to tell them HOW to grieve says more about you than it does about them.

2) Christians historically have implemented plenty of persecution themselves (more than a few monsters have emerged from biblical inspiration);
3) I see nothing beautiful in arbitrary forgiveness. Those families are experiencing undeserved horror, and justice should be served upon that racist p-o-s. Repeating a faith’s talking-points isn’t virtuous, and I’d rather hear their personal stories on why they loved their family members than to hear how a loving God is oh so loving (ha), especially when real forgiveness would imply *actual* forgiveness: and I don’t hear the families calling for the murderer’s release. If the families were Scientologists, and grouped together to thank the Eighth Dynamic, I’m not sure you’d find it to be beautiful or true. Memories should bind the families, not dogma.

I was @ the beach on Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis last week. As you probably know, there are many Somalis in the Twin Cities area. There were 3 Somali girls w/ their required garb watching the other kids swim. It was hot. I love kids. I prefer kids to adults. Try explaining that one to the persecuted Christians worldwide and specifically to the humble Christians in Charleston who are beautifully using their faith to heal after a monster attacked them.

Those who claim that this monstrous behavior is a perversion of Islam are misguided and misinformed. Islam condones this conduct, and slaves still exist in various parts of Africa. Islamic texts allow for such insanity, and this is indisputable. Far from being a perversion of Islam, this behavior is supported by the religion itself. The foolishness of painting all religions with the same brush is ludicrous.
Calling this a perversion of Islam is laughable: just read the text. And moderates who claim IS is perverting Islam would themselves be accused by IS of perverting Islam, for not adhering to the “just” version.
This is the universal fallacy of all religion: being literature, it’s all purely subjective, with each version claiming to be the one objective path.

Stop using terms such as ‘creating a pure Islamic state’. The appropriate term that illustrates these actions would be ‘creating their perversion of Islam’, or ‘perverting Islam to validate the rape and plunder that comes with military dominance of civilian populations’, or any other term that more correctly illustrates these animals.
The sooner the world’s media correctly identifies these animals as the thugs they are, perhaps the sooner all of the world will get to eradicating them. They are a disease and have nothing to do with modern Islam.
Most if not all religions have been and continue to be perverted for the sake of more despicable earthly goals: rape, plunder, and just the good old feeling of being holier than thou.

First place is, therefore, not just a female slave, but a female child. The word used for second and third prizes translates into teenage girl. The depravity of these animals is unmatched.
