I thought that I had heard every argument against allowing same-sex couples to marry but leave it up to the Abbott Administration in Australia to come up with an especially whacked out rationale. Agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce has announced that the country must preserve traditional marriage . . . for the cattle. Do it for the cattle.
Joyce warned that same-sex marriage would mark the nation as immoral and “decadent” in the eyes of its buyers: “Where we live economically is south east Asia, that’s where our cattle go . . . When we go there, there are judgments whether you like it or not that are made about us. They see us as decadent.”
It is not clear if the fear is gay cattle or cattle raised on a gay ranch. I am just thankful that this rationale did not make it into the dissents to Obergefell.

I guess there are lot of transwomen or whatever you’re expected to call them now in Indonesia (e.g., Obama’s nanny when he was a child)- but I don’t expect that country to be adopting SSM anytime soon. Same thing for Malaysia and (believe it or not) Thailand. Years ago-when Australia was moving from white to non-white immigration patterns- the common refrain was that the country had to adjust to the fact that it was located on the periphery of Asia, not in Europe.
That is a funny rationale. I’m pretty sure that when I’m eating a rib eye steak and looking at it on my plate, the last thing I am thinking is “Gee…..did this beef come from a country that allows same sex marriage.” I’m usually more concerned with the marbling of fat and whether it is overdone or not. Backsliding is as good a term as any. I was forced to go to a fundy private school as a child so I occassionally find the terminology useful.
I’m still a believer but I’m also a believer that when kids are forced to try spinach, fundy organized religion or anal sex as a kid they don’t care much for them as adults.
I have come around on spinach, though, as long as its fresh.

I don’t know whether SSM will affect trade but it seems like the dems are always worried about how our policies recruit people for Al Quaeda and ISIS overseas so I’d like to see that addressed.
My guess is that domestically muslims are willing to let SSM slide for a while in exchange for plural marraige like in the days of the profit (multiple troubles and strife be upon him).
Also anything that continues to help our demographic backsliding will certainly help them to further infiltrate America.

Well, he does have a point. Embracing gay marriage is embracing the philosophy of hedonism. Business can be affected by moral perception. If another seller is viewed as more moral, they will likely lose business. On the other hand, if they agree with hedonism, then they will likely get more business.
