There is a chilling case out of Port St. Lucie, Florida where a couple allegedly kept a 13-year-old girl as a sex slave while home schooling her in an isolated existence. In a Christian counterpart to ISIS (which has a widespread sex slave system of captive girls), the couple reportedly taught the girl passages of the Bible that they say justified such sexual domination and abuse. Rob Johnson, 44, and his wife, Marie Johnson, 43, have been released on bail (of $60,000 each) pending trial on felony sexual assault charges.
The girl was taken into the home after the death of her mother but was allegedly told immediately that she would have to have sex with both adults and was forced to call the husband “master.” She was beaten for disobeying.
The girl finally was able to leave the home when her grandmother sent her a plane ticket.
The Johnsons have two sons under 10 years old and two adult-age sons.
I am surprised to see only two felony charges for sexual assault and not charges linked to the alleged imprisonment of the girl against her will. The news stories indicate that the girl was kept from the outside world but there is indication of charges related to that aspect of the alleged crime.
It is not clear what passages are cited but the Bible does discuss slavery and the right to beat and have sex with slaves. For example, Exodus 21:26-27 states “And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake. And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.”
The most famous examples involved wives who could not have children:
Genesis 16:1-2: “Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.”
Genesis 30:3-4: “And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her. And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.”
Genesis 30:9-10: “When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife. And Zilpah Leah’s maid bare Jacob a son.”
Indeed, it appeared only if the slave or servant was betrothed to another that a master had to make a sacrifice for raping her:
Leviticus 19:20-22: “And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free. And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering. And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.”
Of course, none of this is admissible as a religious defense in a criminal trial. It could still be entered as evidence of the conditions and underlying facts of the crime. However, if admitted, I would expect an instruction from the court on such claims not being viable defenses to a crime like rape.
more like zionist wasps who are into the the king james bible old testament written by shakpere for henri 8 the incestuous child rapist
Ojr – shaksper only wrote bit and pieces of the King James Bible. You will note who the Bible is named after. Henry VIII had been dead some time before it was published.
And his daughter Elizabeth I had a 45-year reign in between Henry’s death and the start of James’s reign, not a small gap of time to overlook….
And let us not forget Mary and Edward.
Now THAT is an amazing story. Miracles do happen, from whence these amazing events occur I know not. But they do indeed happen, and are not infrequent in the human experience.
Jane, I’ve had that time-slow-down happen, and I think it’s due to adrenaline. In my case, I was driving to Old World Wisconsin, out in the countryside, along a shoulderless two-lane road with deep gullies on each side. Ahead coming this way was only an old pick-up truck hauling an open trailer. Ah, coming up on the right were the grounds of Old World Wisconsin, a historical settlement re-creation… and ahead coming this way was an old pick-up truck in his lane, and his open trailer skidding nose-down forward in MY lane, coming closer much too fast… and there was nowhere but a deep gully to turn away to.
I had a passenger in the front seat with me, one I quite cared about, whom I was delivering to her job at Old World Wisconsin. Letting her get hurt was NOT an option.
Time slowed down. I steered for the edge of the gully, leaving my left rear corner in the trailer’s path as my right front corner went over open space. The trailer hitting the back corner knocked my car back onto the road, where I stopped. Heavy equipment and loose nuts and bolts from the trailer were scattered on the road… and the security chain was still neatly wrapped around the trailer shaft. But both of us in the car were intact, just slightly spun. It had been like an applied billiards solution.
Raven, LOL, interesting! but I don’t think those men were out to impress me.
Here is another interesting story. My 15 year old son put a bullet down the mouth of an attacking dog. Dogs run free up there on Sand mountain. My son and his friend were walking in the woods on our property. And this neighbor dog, whom they had known, started stalking them, (not the first time, everyone stayed away from this dog. it was a chicken killer from down the road.) Anyway, the boys were alarmed at his behaviour. They had a .22 rifle but they did not hunt, they shot at targets. Anyway they were getting freaked at the way this dog was following them, then the dog charged and as he was in midair my son shot a bullet down his throat and dropped him. Back at the house, he said everything had slowed down into very slow motion and he raised his rifle and took all the time in the world, (it seemed to him) to aim. The amazing thing was that he is legally blind.
Jane, those men may also enjoy showing off their knowing the secret of marksmanship when shooting at pit vipers — which is that you don’t actually have to be a terribly good aim… send hot lead on a line anywhere *near* the snake’s head, and the snake will pick up the heat with its “pits” as prey then quickly jump to bite it, result bullet entering by mouth, wow what a precise-looking head-shot!
“The rather buried point of my story was that my aunt didn’t need a firearm of any description, just a hoe.”
Yes, well she was a woman, and used appropriate, not undue, force to accomplish her aims. Woman don’t seem so keen on blasting things to smithereens as men. 😉
Jane, at the moment of the chop, all I’d told my aunt was that the snake was following me, not the details of the habitat from which I’d seen it emerge — it hadn’t occurred to me at that age that such information would be helpful, and the snake (which had never lost sight of me) was by then coming toward us both.
The rather buried point of my story was that my aunt didn’t need a firearm of any description, just a hoe. An approaching snake is by definition not coiled to jump….
Now the songs are gone but the character, Judy, from Leave it to Beaver is stuck in my brain.
A real friend donning a hat should appear soon. Well, as close to a real friend as is possible.
Have a good swim Jane. I was out earlier with my grandkids on the boat, was glorious.
Thank you, Annie!
Nick – I LOVE my imaginary friends. 🙂
Well, I am off to the beach for a swim. It is beautiful down here.
