Chief Rabbi Reportedly Declares Paris Attacks As Divine Punishment For The Treatment Of Jews

Rabbi_Dov_Lior_(cropped)Dov Lior, the chief rabbi of the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba, appears to have rushed to show that extremists can be found on every side of a massacre.  After the Paris attacks, Lior rushed forward to tell the world that the attacks were actually directed by God as payment for what Europeans “did to our people 70 years ago.”  It does not seem to matter to Lior that France was one of the first to fight against Germany and was left in ruins by the Nazis. It does not even matter that this view of God would make the almighty as morally bankrupt and vicious as ISIS.  In Lior’s twisted mind, murderous Islamic extremists were used by God to kill innocent people for the treatment of Jews in the 1940s. Makes perfect sense.  It is truly impressive that extremists like Lior cannot resist seeing divine purpose in every act, even using ISIS as a vehicle for divine justice for Jews.

Lior made the statement  during the funeral of an Israeli father and son gunned down by Palestinian terrorists.  He used that moment to comment on the massacre of hundreds of innocent people by reportedly saying that “The wicked ones in blood-soaked Europe deserve it for what they did to our people 70 years ago.” Jewish extremists will have to fight with Islamic extremists in taking credit for the massacre since ISIS claims it was the will of Allah.

It is not clear how, in Lior’s alleged view of divine meaning in massacres, the killing of Jews by Palestinians fits into this “hand of God” theory. I assume that that killing of Jews is not meant as divine punishment for the killing of Jews but Lior will have to address that lingering question with a long list of other questions following his alleged comments.

Lior previously attacked global condemnation by saying that God allowed the killing civilian non-Jews in times of war.  Last year, he wrote and published a letter saying that Jewish law permits destroying the entire Gaza Strip to bring peace to the south of the country: ““in the case of Gaza, it would be permitted for the defense minister to even order the destruction of all of Gaza so that the South will no longer suffer and to prevent injury to our people, who have been suffering for so long from the enemies surrounding us.”

He added a view that clearly embraced acts defined as war crimes:

“At a time of war, the nation under attack is allowed to punish the enemy population with measures it finds suitable, such as blocking supplies or electricity, as well as shelling the entire area according to the army minister’s judgment, and not to needlessly endanger soldiers but rather to take crushing deterring steps to exterminate the enemy.”

Indeed, Lior dismissed suggestions of human rights: “Talk of humanitarianism and consideration are nothing when weighed against saving our brothers in the South and across the country and the restoration of quiet to our land.”

Kiryat Arba is cited by various international groups as an illegal settlement under international law.  While the Israeli government maintains that the Fourth Geneva Convention does not apply to Palestinian territories, he international community views the settlement as violating the convention.  Putting aside this controversy, the fact that the people of this settlement would maintain such a person as the Chief Rabbi is truly shocking.

  5. German forces invaded France on May 10, 1940. On June 22, 1940, France signed an armistice with Germany which went into effect on June 25, 1940. Under the terms of the armistice, Germany annexed the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine which shared borders with Germany and had long been a bone of contention between the two countries.

    The German army occupied the remainder of northern and western France and administered this occupied zone in conjunction with occupied Belgium under the leadership of a “military commander” (Militärbefehlshaber). From October 1940 until March 1942, General Otto von Stülpnagel held this position. His cousin, General Karl-Heinrich Stülpnagel, became Military Commander of Belgium and Northern France in March 1942 and held this position until his arrest after the July 20, 1944, attempt to assassinate Hitler.

    As early as the winter of 1940-1941, however, the SS and police had established an apparatus on von Stülpnagel’s staff in occupied France. SS Colonel Helmut Knochen served as Commander of Security Police and SD (Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD, BdS); and SS Captain Theodor Dannecker represented the Jewish affairs office of the Reich Central Office for Security (Reichssicherheitshauptamt, RSHA), under command of SS Lieutenant Colonel Adolf Eichmann. In March 1942, with the replacement of the Military Commander in occupied France and Belgium and in preparation for the deportation of the French Jews, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler appointed SS Major General Carl Oberg as Higher SS and Police Header (Höherer SS- und Polizeiführer, HSSPF) for German-occupied France.

    VICHY REGIME
    Until November 1942, southern and eastern France remained unoccupied. A French collaborationist government, headquartered in the city of Vichy, in the Auvergne, governed unoccupied France.

    In July 1940, the French National Assembly voted to suspend the constitution of the Third Republic and placed the new “Vichy regime” under the leadership of the aging Marshal Henri Philippe Petain, French hero of the Battle of Verdun in World War I. Pierre Laval, a former Socialist politician who cultivated good relations with Otto Abetz (the German Foreign Office representative in Paris), functioned as the acting chief of government for most of the period of German occupation.

    In theory, measures of the Vichy government applied to all of France. However, only in unoccupied France could the new government actually govern autonomously. Officially neutral, Vichy France collaborated closely with Germany. Under Petain and Laval, the Vichy government followed a nationalist and “pre-French Revolutionary” agenda, replacing the ideals of “liberty, equality, and fraternity” [“Liberté, equalité, fraternité!”] with “work, family, and country.”

    In the autumn of 1940, Vichy administrators promulgated antisemitic legislation, closely patterned on that of German anti-Jewish decrees and ordinances in place in the German-occupied zone. The so-called “Statut des Juifs” (“Jewish Statute”), passed in two sections in October 1940 and June 1941, excluded Jews from public life, regulated their dismissal from positions in the civil service and the military, and barred them from occupations in industry, commerce, and the free professions (including medicine, law, and teaching).

    In March 1941, the Vichy government created a central agency, the General Commissariat for Jewish Affairs (Commissariat Général aux Questions Juives), to coordinate anti-Jewish legislation and policy. Anxious to ensure that material goods and assets confiscated from the Jewish population did not fall into German hands, the Laval government, in July 1941, instituted an extensive program of “Aryanization,” appropriating Jewish-owned property for the French state. Aryanization left most Jews in France destitute, affecting foreign Jews particularly severely. French authorities interned thousands of Jews under deplorable conditions in French-administered detention camps—Gurs, Saint-Cyprien, Rivesaltes, Le Vernet, and Les Milles—where at least 3,000 individuals died during the war years.

    DEPORTATIONS
    Following the Wannsee Conference of January 20, 1942, German authorities prepared for the deportation of Jews from France and other western European countries. The appointment of Oberg in March 1942 accelerated the process: an initial transport of more than 1,000 Jews left from Compiègne for Auschwitz on March 27, 1942. On May 29, 1942, German authorities issued a decree—to take effect on June 7—that Jews in occupied France wear the yellow star.

    After securing the agreement of the Vichy government, German officials and French police conducted round-ups of Jews in both occupied and unoccupied zones of France throughout the summer of 1942. Under the direction of Rene Bousquet, Secretary General of the Vichy police, French police arrested 13,000 Jews in Paris on July 16 and 17, 1942, interning them for several days under appalling conditions in the Velodrome d’Hiver sports arena. As Vichy policy dictated that initial deportation convoys from France carry only adult Jews to the East, police razzias literally tore families apart, as parents, grandparents, and elder siblings were separated from younger children at collection points and at French or German assembly camps.

    By late summer, French authorities altered their policy in favor of deporting whole families. After this time transports included children and juveniles in convoys to the east.

Vichy France is the Allies’ description of the government of the French State (État français), following its relocation to the spa town of Vichy, headed by Marshal Philippe Pétain from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. Paris remained the official capital of France. From 1940 to 1942, while the Vichy regime nominally was the government of France as a whole, Germany militarily occupied northern France. Following the Allied landings in French North Africa on 8 November 1942, southern France was also militarily occupied by Germany and Italy on 11 November 1942 through the enactment of Case Anton. The French government remained in existence, but was very aware that it had to please Germany.

    After being appointed Premier of France by President Albert Lebrun, Marshal Pétain ordered the French Government’s military representatives to sign the armistice with Germany on 22 June 1940, following a decision by the French Cabinet. Pétain subsequently established an authoritarian regime when the National Assembly of the Third Republic granted him full powers on 10 July 1940. At that point, the French Third Republic was dissolved. Calling for “National Regeneration,” the French Government at Vichy reversed many liberal policies and began tight supervision of the economy, with central planning a key feature. Labour unions came under tight government control. The independence of women was reversed, with an emphasis put on motherhood. Conservative Catholics became prominent. Paris lost its avant-garde status in European art and culture. The media were tightly controlled and stressed virulent anti-Semitism, and after June 1941, anti-Bolshevism.[3]

    The French State maintained nominal sovereignty over the whole of French territory, but had effective full sovereignty only in the unoccupied southern zone libre (“free zone”). It had limited and only civil authority in the northern zones under military occupation. The occupation was to be a provisional state of affairs, pending the conclusion of the war, which at the time appeared imminent. The occupation also presented certain advantages, such as keeping the French Navy and the colonial empire under French control, and avoiding full occupation of the country by Germany, thus maintaining a meaningful degree of French independence and neutrality. The French Government at Vichy never joined the Axis alliance.

    Germany kept two million French soldiers in Germany as prisoners doing forced labour as hostages to ensure Vichy would reduce its military forces and pay a heavy tribute in gold, food, and supplies to Germany. French police were ordered to round up immigrant Jews and other undesirables such as communists and political refugees. Much of the French public initially supported the government, despite its undemocratic and its difficult position vis-à-vis the Germans, often seeing it as necessary to maintain a degree of French autonomy and territorial integrity. In November 1942, however, the zone libre was also occupied by Axis forces, leading to the disbandment of the remaining army and the French sinking of its remaining fleet and ending any semblance of independence, with Germany now closely supervising all French officials.

    Do you support women’s rights? Gay rights? Democracy? Free speech? I do. How does the US compare on these issues with Syria, Pakistan, and all the other countries in the Middle East. You know, the ones where homosexuality is a capital crime? Do your recall when those gay men were executed by dropping them head first off a building? All those honor killings of female rape victims? There is a certain amount of brain washing that goes on in the Middle East, from birth. In Iran, for example, elementary schools open to chants of “Death to America! Death to Israel!” They are taught that non-Muslim women are whores, and that Muslim women who are “immodest”, even in dress, are whores.

    So, now that you understand the difference between our culture, and that in the Middle East, and how very lucky we are to live here, let’s consider this. There is a certain pace of immigration, whether from the Middle East, or anywhere else, that can occur in which we can:
    1. Vet the applicants to the best of our ability, to screen out criminals like terrorists, and drug cartels
    2. Do a health screening to stop 3rd World Diseases, like leprosy and antibiotic resistant TB from spreading. (Did you know leprosy has now sprung up in some areas of NYC? Or that antibiotic resistant TB, with a mortality rate with treatment of 50%, is now on the rise in CA?)
    3. Maintain a rate at which social services can absorb and support the incomers without overtaxing or collapsing the system, or other networks like ERs
    4. Maintain a rate that will get absorbed into our culture and values. Ideally, we want immigrants to preserve their own traditions, language, and culture, while at the same time discarding the negatives of their birth country, such as prejudice, violence against women and homosexuals. We want them to remember their own language, but learn our own. We want them to discard the anti human rights laws of their home country and embrace and follow our own laws. We want them to live in peace with their neighbors, regardless of race or creed. (For instance, we do not want the intense tribal warfare from many African nations to follow immigrants here.)

    You must realize that if the rate of immigration gets too high, from any host country, the above would collapse. You can no longer thoroughly vet all candidates if they overwhelm the system. You cannot care for them, get them healthcare, treat any 3rd World diseases, improve their nutrition, and education, if they overwhelm the system. And most crucially, you cannot welcome them to the American values of freedom, democracy, and equality, if they arrive in such numbers that they merely bring the worst of their home countries with them.

    Calling sincerely concerned people names fails to address legitimate concerns.

    What do you have to say about Norway, where in the capital of Oslo, literally 100% of rapes between strangers were perpetrated by immigrants, most of which were Muslims, and that women in Norway are now facing the same fear and violence that women in Syria do? How is that the moral high ground? How do you defend these facts? Are we to just ignore them, and eventually become a 3rd World Country ourselves, merely by becoming overrun? As I’ve mentioned, Jews are now openly harassed from many areas of Western Europe, due to the influx of too many immigrants too fast.

    I DO support legal immigration. I require that all applicants be thoroughly screened for criminal or terrorist backgrounds, be screened and treated for diseases, that they assimilate with our laws and values, and that they arrive in numbers that our support infrastructure can absorb.

    I DO want Syrian refugees to be safe. I also require that the inevitable terrorists among them be weeded out. I also require that the Middle East share the burden, as they would have similar laws, customs, and language to the refugees. Why do Western Europe and the US have to shoulder all of the burden? Many countries in the Middle East are wealthy, and they have the land. By helping us, they could stem the tide to a more reasonable, absorbable level.

    The Jews turned away from God and were punished, and more severely than non-Jews because they were Chosen.

    For example: “God used Babylon as His agent of judgment against Israel for their sins of idolatry and rebellion against Him.”

    So this Rabbi’s theory is not unusual.

    The first time I ever heard that the Jews were involved in 9/11 was from a rabidly anti-semitic Persian who had immigrated here illegally across the Mexican border, before he got married and became legal. He claimed that the Jews were tipped off, stayed home from work, and didn’t warn anyone. I showed him a list of the Jewish dead, but nothing got through to him. I thought this ridiculous irrational theory would go away, but it has persisted.

    This rumor got started because an Israeli newspaper referenced the many missing Jews in the WTC. Missing, as in dead and buried or vaporized. You will recall that it took a long time to confirm who had died. This was twisted by Arab news organizations into the false claim that they were missing only at work that day, because they stayed home. This rumor took off, and then morphed into Mossad actually orchestrated it and blamed the poor, innocent Muslims.

    This fantasy immediately crumbles upon the most cursory examination. There is a list of the confirmed dead Jews (and Christians, and Muslims) in the WTC. And the guilt of the terrorists was thoroughly proven.

  12. Does the term ‘restricted’ sound familiar. Why, it has only been a couple generations since Jews were ostracized in the good old US of A and Canada. Before WW2 both Canada and the US restricted the admission of Jewish refugees fleeing Germany because they didn’t want to tick off their business partners, the ones that were profiting from the build up of Nazi Germany. Canada has a most unsavory past regarding the exclusion of Jews from jobs, and life in general.

    One of the most important ingredients in the holocaust that Germany visited on the Jews was the over all anti semitism in the US, Canada, and the rest of the so called advanced nations of Europe. It will take a while for this to sort itself out, on both sides.   18. This rabbi seems to be trapped in the Old Testament and only marginally more civilized than Islamic radicals. While the ISIS worldview seems to literally want to roll back the clock 1300 years, the rabbi’s worldview would seem to reflect a 3000 year old understanding of God. The former will actually take your head, the latter (so far) will simply leave a reasonable person shaking it.

    1. Dominic R. Fichera – according to the old teachings of the Catholic Church and other Christian sects, the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. Hence all their suffering since that time. Of course losing the Jewish Revolt was a major set-back.
