“Something So Black And Wonderful Had Happened”: Rhodes Scholar At Oxford Under Fire After Gleefully Making White Waitress Cry Over Tip

images33B5ED3900000578-3568590-image-m-53_1462142686173There is a deeply disturbing controversy out of one of South Africa. Ntokozo Qwabe is an Oxford student who has received incredible privileges as a Rhodes Scholar and looking at virtually limitless opportunities. However, when he and a friend went to eat recently, they refused to leave a tip for a waitress because she was white and instead left a note that reduced Ashleigh Schultz, 24, in tears. Qwabe, who has led a campaign to remove a Cecil Rhodes statue at Oxford, displayed not only his own racism but lack of humanity in the treatment of Schultz, particularly in posting a gleeful account of who he made Schultz cry “typical white tears.” He celebrated on line that he and his friend were “unable to stop smiling because something so black and wonderful had happened.”

Schultz served Qwabe at the Obz Cafe in the Western Cape, South Africa. When the meal was over, she received the bill with no tip but a note reading “We will give tip when you return the land.” According to news reports, the insult hit Schultz particularly hard because she is struggling to get by and was dealing with the emotional trauma of a mother with cancer.

Qwabe opened relished causing Schwartz to cry. In his inflammatory posting, Qwabe describes how he and his friend — who is unnamed but described as a “radical non-binary trans black activist” – refused to pay a “white woman” a tip. He then described the scene: “She sees the note and starts shaking. She leaves us and bursts into typical white tears.” He then recounts how a male waiter came to his colleague’s aide and confronted the two about their hurtful insult. Qwabe again gleefully described how the second waiter came to the table to “annoy us more with his own white tears telling us that he finds our act racist.” Even Qwabe could see the obvious disconnect of punishing two struggling waiters for the sins of a past generation, but he insisted that he was right to do so with any white person: “It is irrelevant whether you personally have land/wealth or you don’t. Go to your fellow white people and mobilise for them to give us the land back.”

Other South Africans, including many blacks, have denounced Qwabe as a heartless juvenile. Many have sent in considerable money for Schultz. A GoFund site as been set up for Schultz here

What is most shocking is to see the lack of empathy for another human being and the feeling of entitlement in treating Schultz in purely racial terms.

  1. Like native Americans, many tribes in Africa did not and some still do not support the total concept of private ownership of property/land. The land is owned by the tribe for the common good and people pay money or do a job for the tribe for the privileged of living on a parcel of land. Thus nobody in reality owns the land, they’re just renting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s slowly changing as more and more people in our world start to embrace the concept of property rights but the level of socialism is still an indicator, we have a long way to go.

Here is why, in my opinion, private property rights are so important. If you look at the various tribal histories throughout the Americans, you will find a common denominator. The land was generally not well improved. Many tribes were nomadic and just moved with the seasons or with animal migrations. Some did start crops and minor improvements to the land but most used temporary housing such as teepees and there are only a few remaining old tribal communities such as the caves dwelling in New Mexico as examples of fixed housing. The native Americans believed that God owned the land and they were the care takers of the land and of all living creatures. In essence the tribe owned the land, not the individuals.

Thus, nobody ever really improved the property because the really did owned it, the tribe did. Once humans started embracing the concept of property rights, people could then acquire property for their own use and benefit using ethical means such as monetary purchase contracts, leases, etc. If you think about it, we are still trying to transform from a once tribal community (monarchs, etc.) to a society where private enterprise is protected through our property rights, or at least their supposed to be. Many however, will still try to claim rights for the common good, wanting to gain benefits at the expense of the majority. I would like to ask Qwabe, how can you give back something to someone, they did not really own and most likely, like most tribes, acquired by force of arms, i.e. they stole it from another tribe.

Communal/Social/tribal ownership is why communism always fails over time. If I work many hours to improve the land, my fellow Citizens, who do nothing to improve the land, get the same benefits of enjoyment I get from doing all the work. It is why socialists/fascists/communists, i.e. highly “statist” nations, always eventually bankrupt themselves. It is why the preservation of private property rights are so important. All taxation takes property away from those who it rightfully belongs to and gives it to those it doesn’t rightfully belong to.

The transformation has been long and difficult as the various participants try to manipulate the political system for personal gain. Right now China is coming out from under the communist mentality and going towards more of a capitalist society, i.e. protected individual rights. America and many of the industrialized nations are going from the capitalist concept of private property rights to more and more socialistic policies.

In a communist/tribal/socialist society, an individual achieves greater benefits by being in certain political positions, (i.e. the Chief) where as in a more capitalist society, individuals benefit more by acquiring and improving property. Being a worker in a communist society really sucks despite the malarkey Marx wrote. The worker is much better off in a truly capitalist society then in a tribal/socialist/communist society. As government has grown in our society with more and more people gaining political positions or government contracts, we now have more people as a percentage, living at or near the poverty line.

I hope I have done a reasonable job at explaining the benefits of private property rights and why they are so important to a civil society.

One last thing. Statism and capitalism are like oil and vinegar, you can mix them up and they appear to be a viable alternative (a mixed economy), as it is called in today’s text books, as compared to their extremes, but they eventually separate out, with the oil (statism) rising to the top. Most of the atrocities of our world have be executed by mixed economies, who did not protect individual property rights, and thus a militarized political force rose to the top of the dung pile. The Wiemar Republic of Germany and the USSR are two of the great examples. If we do not do something quickly, I fear, America could be a third.

  2. There’s nothing more racist than a black with some room to flex his muscles and a profound desire for revenge.

  3. South Africa has gone to hell in the last 20 years. Read up on the White Genocide going on now.

White guilt by stupid leftist idiots is a cancer upon civilization

  4. It would have been different if the Apparteid had not broken their forbears’ covenant with God. Everything changed permanently from the time they voted to discontinue their national day of thanksgiving which was established when the Dutch settlers obtained an overwhelming victory over what would have been unbeatable odds without the assistance of God, and covenanted that they would hold a day of thanksgiving every year forever. When it was abolished, so was their children’s hold on what had been given them.

  5. “Instead of rooting out the injustices found in society, they make these injustices general. As soon as the plundered classes gain political power, they establish a system of reprisals against other classes. They do not abolish legal plunder. (This objective would demand more enlightenment than they possess.) Instead, they emulate their evil predecessors by participating in this legal plunder, even though it is against their own interests.

It is as if it were necessary, before a reign of justice appears, for everyone to suffer a cruel retribution — some for their evilness, and some for their lack of understanding.” Frederic Bastiat

  6. There’s a reason no Oxford exists in Africa.
But Oxford will do nothing to him, except perhaps to accede to all his demands.
And the waitress needs to read Theodore Dalrymple’s The Talk: Nonblack Version and act accordingly.

Our own US campuses teach exactly this same horsehockey.

Mizzou, for example, did not reject similar behavior against whites on their campus last year (protests based on fake ‘hate crimes’) and now faces a yearly budget deficit of $32 million and an undergraduate enrollment decline of 1500, a 25% drop. They closed 2 dorms as a result; parents are afraid of the violent thugs, and lack of attention to academics over protests.

Yet Mizzou is now doubling down on anti-white propaganda:

“The University of Missouri’s Faculty Council Committee on Race Relations released a video series this week that aims to educate students and faculty about racism on campus, Mizzou’s student newspaper, the Maneater, reported.
Committee member Craig Roberts, a Mizzou plant sciences professor, said that the target audience of these videos will be white faculty, the lessons will be applicable for the white community as a whole.”

South Africa will become another failed African state when the whites leave.
Mr. Qwabe and his friend will then destroy each other, as Africa’s history proves.

  7. S. Africa is not a place to visit. There needs to be some initials for this group. IBIP: I’m Black and I’m Proud.

  8. “Well let us look at the treatment of the indigineous people”

I’m just going to stop your racist and ignorant diatribe right there, and simply trek you that your not only wrong, but a wretch of a person for trying to justify this as some form of racial justice.

  9. It will take a long time to evolve the angst and anger out of the black race. It took a long time to put it there. The good news is that this guy is getting closer to a remnant and not a what’s to come.

  10. This guy’s behavior is typical of academically successful people. No social skills, no empathy. That’s why we put them on a university campus where they can all be mean to each other and eat in the cafeteria where they don’t have to tip. Universities are huge psych hospitals where the best patients end up running the institution.

  11. How much prime agricultural land did this waitress own in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia?

  12. Gee. This seems so simple. One, all white people are responsible for everything that came before. Thus guilty and should be punished, or at least denied a tip. Two, not the right place and time to show your backbone and how courageously strong you are as (fill in the blank – – – black – – woman — LBGT – – name your flavor) . . .

Geez. find a real forum to pursue your injustice. Taking it out on a waitress is just so weak. Color optional.

  13. Just on a ridiculous anthropological footnote, aren’t all persons of what is called European origin actually just returning to their prehistoric ancestral homelands after a sojourn which probably wiped out the European Neanderthal?

  14. Whites are preyed upon even more in Zimbabwe by Mugabe’s ZANU-PF and the so-called “freedom fighter” thugs!

  15. Oh the irony, the pillager of Africa (Rhodes) funds an african student, who then wants his bust at Oxford removed.

“What is most shocking is to see the lack of empathy for another human being and the feeling of entitlement in treating Schultz in purely racial terms. ”

Well let us look at the treatment of the indigineous people of America, Canada, Australia and Palestine (now mainly Isreal). Expand it further to the destruction of Iraq, Syria, Libya.

The west is deeply hypocritical regarding empathy and their entitlement to “rule the world”.

We note the psycopathic vehicle to distance the pirates from their victims: the corporation. We note this fictional sanitising entity now desires dominance over countries with TPP, TTIP, TISA.

Is this singular act comparable to the global cruelty and lack of empathy being pushed by the US and EU?

  16. You folks do realize white folks are preyed upon in South Africa, causing white people to leave in a mass exodus? That’s not opinion.

  17. For new folks here, I like black people. I associate, have good friends. And, because I know black people, I have no compulsion to be PC. The PC folks are almost all lily white w/ lily white friends.

As ANY waitress. Black people are horrible tippers. Many simply don’t tip. I play craps. Often I’ll have black guys nest to me @ the table. Waitresses bring you drinks for free, the unwritten rule is you tip $1. On @ least 4-5 occasions I have seen black guys stiff the cocktail waitress. I’ll wave them over and duke them the $1 the cheap SOB refused to do. They stiff black waitresses just the same as white ones. Now, there is also the dynamic wherein waitresses anticipate the black customer will stiff them or leave a crappy tip and give them inferior service. If the waitress has been stiffed by the person previously, I get it. But, a true professional won’t anticipate a bad or nonexistent tip. They’ll give good service regardless of race. So, for the most part this ain’t racial. It’s about cheapskates.

  18. Unfortunately, he is not an aberration. Black or white racists are cruel and brutual. They come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, religions and races. I hope this ends his scholarship but I have a strong suspicion it won’t.
