Emails Show Democratic National Committee Officials Actively Undermined Sanders And Sought To Guarantee Clinton’s Nomination

Wasserman SchultzFor months, critics and candidates have been publicly denouncing what they view as open favoritism of the Democratic National Committee (and particularly DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz) toward Hillary Clinton. Even DNC members have objected to the role of the DNC and the view that it is trying to guarantee that Clinton is the nominee. Despite fairly universal criticism of the favoritism showed Clinton (and opposition showed Sanders), Wasserman Shultz and DNC officials publicly denounced any such suggestions of working against Sanders. Now, with the Wikileaks postings, various emails prove that the DNC has been actively working to undermine Sanders and advance their chosen candidate of Hillary Clinton. What continues to shock me is the unblinking dishonesty of Washington. Absent this Wikileaks disclosure, officials would have continued to deny that they secretly undermined all challengers to Clinton. It is sheer mendacity of the power elite in this city that is so chilling.

WikiLeaks posted an email from Mark Paustenbach, the Democratic Party’s national press secretary and deputy communications director, to other staffers discussing how they could create an anti-Sanders narrative that portrays his campaign in disarray and not an acceptable option for voters.

“Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess. . .

“Specifically, DWS had to call Bernie directly in order to get the campaign to do things because they’d either ignored or forgotten to something critical. She had to call Bernie after the data breach to make his staff to respond to our concerns. Even then they didn’t get back to us, which is why we had to shut off their access in order to get them to finally let us know exactly how they snooped around HFA’s data.

“It’s not a DNC conspiracy, it’s because they never had their act together,” Paustenbach continued.

Other emails shows collusion with the Clinton campaign and even an effort to start an attack against Sanders on the basis of his religious beliefs.  For example, a May 2016 message from DNC CFO Brad Marshall suggested that the party should “get someone to ask” Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders about his religious beliefs.

From:MARSHALL@dnc.org
To: MirandaL@dnc.org, PaustenbachM@dnc.org, DaceyA@dnc.org

Subject: No shit
It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.
The email was sent to DNC Communications Director Luis Miranda and Deputy Communications Director Mark Paustenbach. It’s unclear who the “someone” in this message could be — though a member of the press seems like a safe bet. A request for comment sent to Marshall was not immediately returned.

So here you have not only a high ranking DNC official actively working to discredit Sanders (while the DNC is expressing shock over suggestions of favoritism) but suggesting a despicable attack based on his religious beliefs.  The emails show both an campaign against Sanders and the falsity of statements made to the public.

A reply to Marshall’s email from DNC CEO Amy Dacey read only “AMEN.”

So it appears that religion runs deep among the DNC staff . . . at least when it comes to destroying Sanders and rigging the election for Clinton. The planned use of a candidate’s religious beliefs or agnostic views against him is a disgraceful and dishonorable act for any party. All of the officials planning such an attack (or staying silent with knowledge of such an attack) should be fired.

At a minimum, in my opinion, Wasserman Schultz should resign in light of these emails and the now reaffirmed allegations of bias at the DNC.  Furthermore, these officials should be immediately held accountable if the DNC wishes to regain any semblance of being an honest broker for democratic voters.

What do you think?

  1. Philly t, This blog has devolved into a Trump apologist blog. Have a good day. 🙂

Good Diamond and Silk video! I actually agree with Cenk sometimes, but My God he is an arrogant prick! His biggest problem is that he is sooo convinced that Democrats are intellectually and morally superior to Republicans, that he can’t learn much from reality. While he was interviewing the girls he was about to bust a gut to keep interjecting that Democrats are better than Republicans to the point I was hoping one of them would just Jap slap him.

That is a problem with college educated white people, particularly the young ones. They are convinced by age 20ish that they are brilliant and have all the answers to the world’s problems. People used to mature out of that belief by age 40 or so, and then become more conservative about things. But I think the social media bubble interferes with that normal progression, and they become even more dead set in their ways. Not getting married and starting families and/or living in their parent’s basement doesn’t help either. There is a reason why people in the young 20’s become suicide bombers. They are a lot more amenable to fanaticism at that age.

I hope Cenk grows up one of these days. He has the right instincts, but he is wallowing in hubris at the moment.

  3. Squeek,

The majority of Bernibots are NOT demoncrats. Those who lived in states with closed primaries registered as such only because they wanted to vote for Sanders. Now there is a Demexit planned. Jill Stein 2016. Tulsi Gabbard 2020

It’s not too late for the Super Delegates to come to their senses and nominate Bernie. If they don’t do that the demise of the Democratic party is on them.

Re: the alleged rape of a 13 year old sounds too absurd to be real – looks like she tried to shake down the Donald for $$ and then when it failed she tried to go to court – too many questions – using a false address, saying she went to NYC on a bus to start a modeling career (at 13?!) There are many Trump haters – both on the Repug and Demoncrat side who will resort to any tactic to take him out. And divert from Bill’s rides on Epstein’s Lolita Express, etc. as well as all the other Clinton scandals.

Don’t misunderstand me: I do not like the Donald, but focus on issues not concocted allegations.

    From Snopes.com

” I traveled by bus to New York City in June 1994 in the hope of starting a modeling career. I went to several modeling agencies but was told that I needed to put together a modeling portfolio before I would be considered. I then went to the Port Authority in New York City to start to make my way back home. There I met a woman who introduced herself to me as Tiffany. She told me about the parties and said that, if I would join her at the parties, I would be introduced to people who could get me into the modeling profession. Tiffany also told me I would be paid for attending.

The parties were held at a New York City residence that was being used by Defendant Jeffrey Epstein. Each of the parties had other minor females and a number of guests of Mr. Epstein, including Defendant Donald Trump at four of the parties I attended. I understood that both Mr. Trump and Mr. Epstein knew I was 13 years old.”

  5. Well, I think you Bernie Democrats deserve Debbie WS! I think it is hilarious to watch her and the DNC be condescending to the progressives, just like the progressives and liberals are condescending to everybody else! While the DNC’s actions are reprehensible and criminal, I can’t help feeling that the smug twits from the more leftist wing of the party are simply getting some karmic comeuppance!

    Put some ice on it!

  6. Why do I get the feeling that more emails will be leaked during the DNC convention.

In corporate America, some of those emails would be a smoking gun for an EEOC investigation.

  7. After the people picked George McGovern as their candidate and he got stomped by Nixon the Dems vowed to never again allow such a thing to happen. The super-delegate system was their play to make sure the “people” were balanced by the “party professionals” who could save them from themselves. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her pals are the result of that pendulum swinging as far as it will go in that direction. I’m sure they saw Sanders as another McGovern, in spite of the fact that he out-polled Clinton against literally every Republican candidate, and especially Trump.

It’s time for the party to clean house and hopefully it’s not to late in this election cycle. This election is Clintons to lose, and above all else, if she loses and Trump gets to nominate one or more justices to the Supreme Court, we can all kiss the Voting Rights Act goodbye, along with Roe v Wade, the EPA, separation of church and state and a hundred other social progresses we have made.

Speaking of Trump. professor, I know you hate Hillary Clinton and make a point of blogging about every possible wrong thing she has done. But couldn’t you at least make a little show of mentioning all the trouble surrounding Trump? The pending lawsuits? The allegations of rape, including that of a 13year-old girl? Trump University (another judge refuses to dismiss the suit)? I mean, your partisanship is REALLY showing here.

I had forgotten about that deal with Russia. Problem is there are so many issues with HRC, the DNC and the Clinton Foundation it’s hard to retain (much less digest) all the issues. Even if one analyzed all this full time still one would miss things.

HRC reminds me of a hydra – cut off one head and another one immediately grows back. We need a contemporary Herakles

  9. I understand that you are 100 percent against war and I admire those that stand up for what they believe in. I would probably protest with a peaceful BLM group rather than protest with the anti-war folks these days. I have a friend that protests against wars often and she has invited me to the events but I don’t go because I am not all in. I think ISIS is evil and should be stopped They kill a lot of muslims..Do you agree, Jill?

  10. Please read this quote then go read the article. To each his own.
I personally think this is the most troubling issue with HRC.
“And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. Clinton received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.”

  11. As an email librarian I will caution you folks to not open up the wikileaks website to look for dnc or repub emails lodged in there by Snowden. Your own emails can possibly be thereafter seen and your computer compromised. The wikileaks people have already drawn in most of the Repubs and so by my telling you this I am not helping them out any. If you do scan the web for emails then use a computer which you only use for that purpose. Another trick you can do is to go onto the websites set up by various Repub office holders and work from there. You will be surprised how lame some of them can be. Lo and behold!
Today I will relate that there is a female Senator from up in the Northeast who may leave the Republican Party in some fashion and run the next time as an Independent. You know who I mean jellybean and an announcement is coming your way soon. As in the Sunday morning news shows. I forget her name. I am old and getting senile. If is a good excuse. Like if your wife asks if you took the trash out this morning. “I forget”. That phrase is going to be common in this election. “So, Donald, did you vote for Bush in his last election?” Ask him that one. That issue is in today’s revelations too.

  12. You used the word “duty” that’s quite telling. DWS is the embodiment of the establishment much like Hilary. I hope she gets primaried and loses because she has nothing to do with what proper liberals stand for. I used to be sympathetic to the liberal cause because it sounds just. That’s just it though, you can’t give people power over others, it’s a dead end. The examples are myriad, the best path for us all is decentralization. If you want to have social programs have em, just allow it to be voluntary, the great thing about freedom is that you can do what you like but you have to convince others it’s in their interest.

  13. Maybe we will eventually see Ms. Wasserman-Schultz assume the role of the DNC’s “sin eater” and take the fall for Hillary Clinton and the others involved in this controversy. If she performs this duty I’m sure we can expect her to be richly rewarded by the Clintons.

They tend to take care of their own, for a time. But given the nature of those having little regard for fairness or honorable behavior they frequently turn on each other–a circle of backstabbers, none willing to break the cycle.

  14. As if this is news, it’s no different on the Republican side except the fact that Donald Trump is famous. Let’s put this in perspective, Hillary Clinton is not only a liar, she’s completely in tune with the military industrial complex. No one gets the kind of speaking fee’s she does without owing. Her emails, ducking bullets, against single payer, for TTP, Libya, Iraq I mean the list is endless.
I sincerely hope that Mr. Turley is against her, don’t vote for Trump, but there’s a 1% chance he’ll be an okay president, there’s 0 chance she won’t be Bush and Obama writ large.

  15. If she doesn’t resign, delegates ought to boo her off the stage. Protesters will be destroying Phila.

    1. Darren, Diamond and Silk are quite a team. I like their attitude that being black did not stop them. I’ve never heard of Cent before, but heard the same liberal excuses (Voter ID, free education). I just learned that before WWII free education ended at eighth grade. Continued education cost money. I’ve heard people refer to their eighth-grade educations, but didn’t know why. Now it’s High School. I went on to Junior College which only required purchasing books. Then married, but we can all continue to learn. I took Astronomy in a night class. I’m taking Trig again in a free class on the Internet (I couldn’t remember what my husband and a friend were talking about). And I read. My father had the eight years of education but read his whole life. He did diagramless crossword puzzles (are they around anymore?). And held his own in tough discussions with my husband (with a degree in nuclear physics). Education is free. Go to your library and learn by reading. What liberals want is not education, but four more years of high school. There are plenty of scholarships available for those willing to work hard and earn them.
