Wasserman Schultz Booed Off Stage By Florida Delegation . . . But Given Job By Clinton Campaign

Wasserman SchultzHillary_Clinton_Testimony_to_House_Select_Committee_on_BenghaziFormer Democratic Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was booed of the stage by the Florida delegates today as anger continued to rise over emails showing that the DNC actively undermined Bernie Sanders and sought to rig the primaries for Hillary Clinton.  Yet, in coming DNC interim chair (and Clinton supporter) Donna Brazile is calling for Wasserman Schultz to have a role at the convention as a reward for her past work.  In an equally tone deaf response, Clinton has given Wasserman Schultz a formal job with her campaign — as opposed to the informal job that her critics have long alleged.  The fact is that Wasserman Schultz has from the start been the most controversial DNC chair in the party’s history — well before the entrance of Bernie Sanders.  Her tenure has been divisive and destructive for the party.  The effort to reward her by party insiders like Brazile and bring her into the Clinton campaign only reaffirms the disconnect with voters.

Wasserman Schultz discussed her new role for the Clinton campaign as delegated booed her and chanted “shame” over the now confirmed secret campaign for Clinton at the DNC.  She will be the honorary chair of her campaign’s 50-state program.  Clinton heralded the past work and future role of Wasserman Schultz:

“I want to thank my longtime friend Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her leadership of the Democratic National Committee over the past five years.  I am grateful to Debbie for getting the Democratic Party to this year’s historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week’s events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership. . . . There’s simply no one better at taking the fight to the Republicans than Debbie–which is why I am glad that she has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign’s 50-state program to gain ground and elect Democrats in every part of the country, and will continue to serve as a surrogate for my campaign nationally, in Florida, and in other key states.

“I look forward to campaigning with Debbie in Florida and helping her in her re-election bid–because as President, I will need fighters like Debbie in Congress who are ready on day one to get to work for the American people.”

I would think that this is stating the obvious but the Clinton people might have wanted to wait a bit before giving Wasserman Schultz a position with the campaign when delegates are protesting that she was working for the campaign all along.  One look at the Florida delegation (which is Wasserman Schultz’s most supportive group) confirms that obvious point:

  1. Bernie talk about Trump calling hispanics “rapists”, Jill.

  2. Bernie and Puerto Rican musician Residente in conversation about surveillance, etc. No wonder he won’t be one of the speakers at the DNC convention.. Bernie, I mourn the demise of the real you!

  3. randyjet,
When you have your own legal blog that blows JT’s out of the water then come back and tell him how to run his own.

  4. @randyjet

I read your comment, and what I walk away with is:

“I don’t wanna talk about crooked Democrats- – -Oh look! A squirrel!—those Republicans sure are crooked!”

  5. SMM,

Yeah, no one should mess up getting a powerful job just so you can help achieve justice for the people who were disenfranchised by both you and Clinton. And Bernie has the weird idea that only Trump is anti-Hispanic. Yeah right, “Taco voters” and Obama’s night raids on immigrants don’t help the campaign look good. That is CYNICAL!

Bernie is sheepdoggin’ all the way! What a very cynical man he is. You don’t have to support Hillary to not support Trump. That’s just a lie told by cynical people to scare others from making real change.

  6. Its either give her a job to keep her mouth shut ……..or Wasserman Schultz accidentally slips and falls in the tub which would draw too much attention right now for HRC

  7. SWM

I leave it to Bernie to justify his actions to salve his conscience. I must, however, deal with my own sense of integrity which means I will never vote for HRC.

  8. Autumn, Bernie is in line for a chairmanship of a powerful committee if the dems win the senate .He is not going to mess that up.

  9. Just got an email from Bernie – wanting me to click if I will view his speech. The DNC is seriously deranged. Nope, not going to watch it – it will be too painful to see that dear broken man shuffle up, devoid of his innate vim and vigor and tell us to vote for HRC.

0 enthusiasm. Looking forward though to watching Jill Stein! She will be speaking from – 5-7 PM EST at FDR Park which someone will pick up and stream live (NOT the MSM of course unless it’s Fox!)

  10. If Trump breaks the law he should get what he deserves. My point for Clinton is the old, “fool me once, shame on you, full me about 300 more times, shame on me…”

RE: “how does the legal system protect us from crooked lawyers like Cohn?”

It doesn’t – we have Crooked lawyer Clinton evading the laws and running for the highest office in the nation.

  12. randyjet,

What is your stance on the following, regardless of party engaged in the activity:

    1. voter disenfranchisement 2. financial fraud 3. collusion with the press and the powerful 4. FEC violations

What is your stance on these issues?

J’adore Bernie. He will be in my heart forever. However, unlike Bernie I do not have to toe the line. Poor guy looks so exhausted as Trump accurately noted. This amazing 74 year old man who traveled all over the country – sometimes even giving 2-3 rallies a day in Cali! And battling the MSM during press conferences while HRC hid. Energy I could only wish to have now reduced to a shell of a person. They must have really worked him over at Gitmo.

  14. This is not worthy of Prof Turley. I guess he has never heard of being kicked upstairs as honorary chair. BIG DEAL! This is funny that he has to make up “scandals” which result in nothing at all in terms of legal proof. All of the so called scandals have been proven to be nothing at all.

What is even worse, is the deafening silence about the Trump and GOP lies and outright real crimes. I have yet to hear anything from Turley about the Texas AG who is under CRIMINAL FELONY indictment and trial. Yet we were all treated to the tape of the Travis County DA being arrested for a misdemeanor DUI and his comments about it. Then he went on to denounce the indictment from a Republican prosecutor of Guv Perry for his political withholding of funds for public corruption. So only Democrats are worthy of resigning for an indictment, but Republicans are immune it seems.

Since this is a legal blog, or supposed to be, I hope that Turley would comment on the FACT that Trump’s word is not worth a thing. In FACT, even written contracts are worthless as we are seeing in many courts since he abuses the legal system to bankrupt small businesses when he refuses to pay what he contracted for. Just what is the legal recourse for small businesses who cannot afford to pay for years of litigation to fight to simply force Trump to follow his signed contracts? How can the ordinary citizen enforce legally binding contracts against thieves like Trump?

Then we have another silence on Trump’s mentor for many years, Roy Cohn. The tactics Trump is using is right out of the playbook of Cohn who eventually died of AIDS and was disbarred before his death because he stole money from his clients. Why did it take so long for Cohn to be disbarred and how does the legal system protect us from crooked lawyers like Cohn?

    1. randyjet – Trump runs over 500 businesses under his umbrella and only 16 have failed. Since 1 in 3 new businesses fail each year, that is an outstanding business record.
BTW, disbarred lawyer Hillary Clinton is running for President of the United States.

  15. SMM,

Obama murders his enemies. Clinton has murdered hers. What, you don’t like Putin? You don’t like Trump? You should be praising them to high heaven. And more importantly, will you ever even address the issue at hand?

    1. voter disenfranchisement 2. financial fraud 3. collusion with the press and powerful Democrats 4. FEC violations

What is your stance on these issues?

  16. @SWM

Daily Kos is a joke – after they tried to limit how many contributors could write pro Bernie stories. Might as well be part of the MSM.

Again, you are deflecting from the fact that HRC is a criminal, a liar and a loser of a candidate.

  17. Autumn, Clinton is not a good candidate but I guess you do not view Trump the way Bernie and I do. 🙂

    1. swm – I don’t think you can speak for Bernie’s judgment if he is still going to back Hillary. The least he should do is pull a Cruz.
