Poke-Zombies: Catholic Bishop Declares Game As Akin To Nazism And Seeks Court Injunction

We have discussed (with no small amount of mirth) the Islamic fatwas against Pokemon. Now an Italian bishop appear intent upon showing that Christians can be equally absurd. Antonio Stagliano, the bishop of the southern town of Noto in Sicily, has declared the game to be “diabolical” and is going to court to try to block the game which he insists turns people into the “walking dead.” Better undead than brain dead, in my view.

Stagliano has been on a holy tear against the game which he describes as “a totalitarian system close to Nazism” and saying it had “alienated thousands and thousands of young people.” Not that the bishop should be forced back into sanity, but most people would see a slight difference between an Internet game and a war that led to the murder of millions and destruction of whole nations. However, that is just me.

  1. Dear Art, this piece isn t exactly good advertising to get people back in the pews.

I cannot figure why he’s so invested in this mess as it seems like another stupid fad. However, a serious exposition on Catholic faith and morals will vex people as well. If advertising’s his business, he’s not following his vocation.

  3. @NickS

Thank you!!! In case you’re wondering what happened after the Priest fell into the toilet. . .

The Priest stumbled off to Marsala,
To a waterfront dive of fagala!,
    He asked, “Pok-ee-man?”
    To a muscular blonde. . .
    Who shanghai-ed him to Venezuela!

  4. Just when I was going to start back to church on a regular basis.

Is he your diocesan bishop? If not, what’s the connection in your mind?

  5. I don’t know which is funnier, that religious authorities go to all the trouble to make nanny fatwas and proclamations, or that it really does turn players into the walking dead, who stop their car on the freeway, walk off cliffs, or walk into traffic all to play a silly video game. No, wait, that last bit is not funny at all. What is WRONG with people?

Comparisons with Nazis have become so overused its drained all meaning from the word. And this is a very good indication of why individual people should never be given too much power.

  6. It’s axing that will the evil in this world this”man of God ” focuses on a game! He doesn’t focus on child rape or domestic abuse or air pollution or war but on a GAME! The mind boggles.

‘Air pollution’ is seldom a question of faith or morals, so there isn’t much point to a bishop remarking upon it in his vocational capacity. Neither child molestation nor domestic abuse are novelties nor has there been a demonstrable upsurge in either in recent years.

  7. This is just another individual in a position of authority and he’s using it to infringe on the rights of the people.

He’s a nuisance with his petition. Only the judge in this case can infringe on anyone’s rights.

  8. It’s part of the book of business of bishops to critique contemporary consumer culture. Some of them do it better than others.

Clergymen are commonly a fantastic disappointment. They are seldom actively destructive. Lawyers, school administrators, professors, and media gnats are.

  9. Our local branch library is a Pokemon Go gym. It shares space with one of the local high schools. The place is mess after school. As far as mind control and Nazism goes, I would agree.

  10. This is just another individual in a position of authority and he’s using it to infringe on the rights of the people. This age old tactic has proven okey dokey for progressives if he weren’t a man of the cloth, but put him under the “believer” umbrella and he’s now a totalitarian.

  11. Here is what is really going on. There is a Pedophile Priest in his Parish whose nickname is Pokeman. He gets the name because of his childish habits. He also likes to pork nuns who wear habits. He has a twin brother who is a priest whom they call Mister Habit.

  12. Yes indeed.
A person whose ancient profession relies on spirits has a problem with electronic fantasy.
Only to be supported by the Nazi “SQUIRREL!” tactic.
Not sure that’s what Jesus would do.

  13. He doesn’t like it so no one should have access. How religiously familiar.

  14. Well, it is prime Irish Poem territory!

There once was a Catholic Priest,
Who went out to battle The Beasts,
    That Satan created
All weird and mutated. . .
    Which Demon Nintendo released!

But, to find them he needed an app!
Which could locate them all on a map!
    He tracked a Kuboto
    Inside the Bordello
But a “lady” there gave him a slap!

Sooo, out he ran, searching again!
For a little blue thing with a fin
    But the shy little critter
    Had hid in the sh-tter
And alas our Poor Priest fell right in!

Maybe other commenters could write about other misadventures the priest could get into??? Here is a list of some of the rare little critters.
