There is a truly horrific crime in North Carolina. Former Spc. Marinna Rollins, 23, and Spc. Jarren Heng, 25, were charged this week with shooting Rollins’ PTSD service dog on videotape as they laughed. After tying Rollins’ therapy animal (a pit bull named Cam), the two giggle and laugh as Rollins shoot Cam five times.
Rollins adopted Cam or Cami in 2016 from the Cumberland County Animal Shelter to work as her therapy.
On the video, Heng asks for the pleasure of shooting Cam. They film the shooting and the burial as they record what a great time they are having.
In April, Rollins began posting on Facebook for a new home for Cam. She reportedly felt the dog was too expensive. One of her friends saw the videotape and posted it.
Rollins is a former multimedia illustrator who left the Army last January. Heng is assigned to a unit within Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg. Heng was due to be sent to Korea and Rollins had the dog certified as an emotional support animal for post-traumatic stress.
They are both charged with cruelty to animals and conspiracy. Bail was set at $25,000.
What do you think the appropriate sentence should be if they are found guilty, which seems quite likely given the videotape.
No doubt these endless and stupid neocon-neoliberal wars create psychopaths. Trump probably had good intentions initially, but the Dems and the deep state and CIA have turned him into another Bush-Obama-Hillary with their endless campaign of lunatic Russophobia. Hillary, in particular, should be given a fair trial and then hung (like at Nuremberg) for turning Libya into a chaotic failed state. I know most Americans are now inured to contemporary death and destruction, but they should at least be shocked that black slavery and open slave markets have returned to Libya.
I don’t even have words. There is a real sickness in our society that I have never seen so openly or broadly (granted, the fact that our global population has doubled in 30 years and the advent of social media are likely factors. Things are more widespread by virtue of numbers and access is unprecedented. A shame these things haven’t enlightened us, instead). I’d like to see them shot, personally, they are absolute scum.
Clearly Rollins needed more than a therapy dog and somehow that was missed in her evaluation.
The both need to be removed as far away from the military as possible. Punish them to the fullest extent of the law. And get them BETTER psychiatric help than what they may have been provided to this point.
Banishment to the Dog Star without space suits.
Properly, both should be made felons, given 6 months in prison and sentenced to weekly mental health sessions for at least 5 years.

Regarding the term PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is somewhat of a sham. What often happens is the military recruits a person with some mental illness. The war experience is perhaps traumatic but the nutcase has that hashtag put on them and invokes the PTSD nametag as a celebration of their time in Afghanistan or Nam. Yeah, they might have had some stress but they were wacko to begin with. But they now get medical benefits for life and some veterans disability pay. I know quite a few wackos who live off the government long after discharge from the military and discharge from the wacko ward. You may see some in your neck of the woods wearing Vietnam Veteran hats and so forth.
I don’t know if PTSD is a sham (the actual illness) but being a veteran, I too see it used for benefits more than it should. Disgraceful.
Dishonorable discharge. And maximum jail time.
Ok, now to the punishment.
If you negligently kill someone with your car you can lose your right to drive.
Take way their rights to own or operate firearms for 5 years.
Probation, outpatient therapy for PTSD, and 200 hours community service in an animal shelter which would include visiting middle schools to discuss animal cruelty prevention.
These are not the best of of uniformed service members and we need to remind people of the risks of the sacrifice in serving.
Make them the poster children for what stress can do.
Empathy first, followed by real consequences.
I find it interesting that Professor Turley will show a video of a live beheading occurring in Saudi Arabia but won’t link to a live execution of an animal.

I am unclear about whether one or both of them has PTSD. If so, they could use it as a defense. If not, they are sociopaths and should the maximum for discharging a weapon and animal cruelty. I am going to say that this sickens me and I hope they do every day of their sentence.

Darn! Squeeky said it first. I was thinking the same thing regarding the tatoo.
But maybe the sentence should be death by firing squad. The firing squad could be made up of dogs. Each would have a dog bark rifle. The rifle is set up on a post and aimed at the dork. When the dog barks the trigger is pulled by a dog bark mechanism. Six shots to the head. One to the scrotum of the guy. Cremation. Ashes spread over their home towns from the air.
