Red Scare: Love Is Never Having To Say You’re Socialist

On this Valentine’s Day, the Democratic establishment is sending out its equivalent of “forget me nots” saying “Love is never having to say you’re Socialist.” Alarm over the surge of Bernie Sanders has turned widespread alarm in Democratic and media circles (sometimes hard to differentiate on some channels) into full-blown panic. With now a double digit lead over Biden in national polls, there is a constant drumbeat in the media against Sanders — the same type of bias that actually pushed many voters toward Trump in 2016.

The latest Morning Consult poll shows Sanders at 29 percent support with Biden at 19 percent followed closely by Michael Bloomberg at 18 percent. While the media tirelessly pumps Amy Klobuchar, she is still at most 5 percent with Elizabeth Warren at 10 percent.

Sanders has also surprisingly taken the lead in Texas. Moreover, Sanders accounts for over half of the young voters in the New Hampshire primary — more than all of the other candidates, including the young Pete Buttigieg, combined. Those voters are not likely to be swayed by figures like Hillary Clinton effectively campaigning against Sanders. To the contrary, this effort seems to be backfiring in spectacular fashion.

With establishment figures like Biden and Klobuchar struggling, the media continues to slam Sanders. We discussed the open bias against Sanders at CNN and MSNBC. It is now even more raw and obvious. Hosts remain undeterred with recidivists like NBC’s Chuck Todd objecting to people calling Sanders a “frontrunner.”

In the meantime, many continue to misleadingly call Sanders a “communist” — most recently James Carville who seems to be assigned the task of hounding Sanders out of the primary.

As I discussed before, the open bias shown in 2020 by media figures is more likely to have the same impact as the bias shown in favor of Hillary Clinton in 2016. There is a total lack of respect for viewers in this virtually scripted attack on Sanders. Notably, Warren’s policies are quite similar to Sanders’ policies but she is not saddled with the label of “communist.” The result is a Democratically-led “red scare” — something I have written about in earlier columns.

The whole point is to get the public to loathe rather than love the authenticity of Sanders.

  1. Last week, Attorney General William Barr said that the U.S. should purchase a controlling stake in two of the world’s largest telecom companies.

Isn’t government ownership of industry one of the key pillars of socialism?

  2. “…many continue to misleadingly call Sanders a ‘communist.'”

    – Professor Turley

One cannot be half pregnant and one cannot be half communist.

Bernie Sanders and democrats are communists-in-waiting and, therefore, communists.

Karl Marx would call Comrade Bernie Sanders and the rest of the communists (i.e. liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINO’s) communists.

The principles of communism are Central Planning (Fed/Treasury/QE), Control of the Means of Production (regulation), Redistribution of Wealth and Social Engineering.

Communists implement the principles of communism in the forms of affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, rent control, social services, forced busing, minimum wage, utility subsidies, WIC, TANF, HAMP, HARP, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc.

None of the principles of communism is constitutional.

Article 1, Section 8, provides Congress the power to tax only for “…general Welfare…” not individual or specific welfare, not redistribution of wealth.

Article 1, Section 8, provides Congress the power to regulate only the “value” of “money,” the flow of commerce among nations, states and Indian tribes, and land and naval Forces. No other regulation is enumerated or constitutional.

The 5th Amendment right to private property is not qualified by the Constitution and is absolute precluding any and all interference or possession or disposition of, or claim to or dominion over private property by Congress.

Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto 59 years after the adoption of the Constitution because none of the principles of the Communist Manifesto were in the Constitution. Had the principles of the Communist Manifesto been in the Constitution, Karl Marx would have had no reason to write the Communist Manifesto. The principles of the Communist Manifesto were not in the Constitution then and the principles of the Communist Manifesto are not in the Constitution now.

    1. George,

We are truly through the looking glass today now that AG Barr has fully uncloaked himself as an American Hating Commie/Nazi Deep Stater by allowing McCabe to walk on all his Treason against our nation.

Toto, has once again puled back the curtain for all of us to see.

      It’s forcing Trump to act.

      We’ll see.

      1. It may be that some brave soul should intimate to the President that AG William Barr is Mr. Deep Deep State; that Barr is the “swamp;” that Barr must be drained.

        1. In light of Valentine’s Day, I would like to make-up, permission to call me Dorthy and my little dog, Toto.

But her real name is Lilith….just so you know.

  3. Establishment Dems and Progressive Dems openly despise each other now. That’s going to hurt in the general election regardless of who wins. Each utterance of “Bernie Bro” deepens the chasm in the Democrat ranks and only benefits Trump. Keep it up! 🙂

    1. Ivan, what’s your investment here? Are you honestly planning to vote for Bernie?

Or are you a ‘concerned’ observer who fears that Democrats are ‘conspiring’ to lock Bernie out? They wouldnt be able to lock him out if Bernie was already inside.

  4. I remember 1975, I have no idea why I became mostly deaf & I doubt it was because of my lack of self control when it came to the volume. lol;)

    (Q: pill up the lyrics)

Happy VD day…. Wait that don’t sound so good…. Hell, I can’t hear much anyway, crank it up.

  5. Attention Trumpers:

Turley Wrote This Column For Only ‘You’

A few days back I reported that Professor Turley is an ‘Honorary Bernie Bro’.  They are Trump supporters who pray that Democrats will be stupid enough to let Bernie Sanders hijack their party.  Honorary Bernie Bros love to keep emphasizing that Democrats ‘screwed poor Bernie in 2016’.  ‘And Democrats are trying to do it again!’

Honorary Bernie Bros know that Bernie will go down in a landslide against Donald Trump.  In fact everyone ‘except’ the true Bernie Bros knows Bernie will lose.  It’s been widely discussed by pundits in the mainstream media since the Iowa fiasco.  It’s impossible to think Professor Turley has missed this discussion.

Nevertheless, in this column, Professor Turley pretends Joe Biden still factors in the primaries.  But the truth is that every pundit in mainstream media wrote Biden off more than a week ago.  Almost ‘no one’ believes that Biden still matters in this race.  Elizabeth Warren has also been written off.  Her campaign peaked last September and she has faultered ever since.

The principal story in mainstream media is that Bernie’s victories in Iowa and New Hampshire have been precarious at best.  Bernie won those contests by much wider margins 4 years ago.  When one considers his name recognition and alleged popularity in 2016, Bernie is off to a very weak start.

The rise of Amy Klobucher and continued strength of Pete Buttigieg have been the real stories in mainstream media. What’s more, Michael Bloomberg is now being taken more seriously than just 2 weeks ago.  It appears, beyond a doubt, that a majority of Democrats are weighing a Bernie alternative.  The only question is ‘who’ becomes that alternative.

Therefore, with this column, Professor Turley is writing to a readership that ‘avoids’ mainstream media.  Only those in the right and left wing bubbles believe that Democrats have an obligation to accept Bernie Sanders.  The story has moved on from there yet Johnathan Turley remains oddly oblivious.

    1. Seth, why are you so rude as to keep insulting our host, Jonathan Turley? If you despise him so much, why are you here?

      1. Karen, we know Turley isnt serious in his sympathy to Bernie. And we saw this sympathy from Trumpers 4 years ago with their “Poor Bernie” refrains. It’s as transparent as glass in a ‘Windex’ commercial. Bernie would get blown out of the water by Trump and almost every pundit in mainstream media has been saying that all week. There’s no way Turley could be missing these predictions.

        1. It doesn’t matter if any of us agree with Bernie’s platform or not. One can make the determination of whether something is fair, or unfair, regardless of whether we want to vote for Bernie.

If someone punched Bernie in the face, do I have to be a Bernie voter to truthfully say that’s not right?

People can actually make a judgement call without regard for how it benefits or detracts from their favored political candidate.

    2. Trump supporters should remember HRC’s “pied piper strategy” in 2016, i.e., elevate Trump to secure a victory for Clinton.

It is hubris to think Bernie could never win, just like it was hubris to think Trump could never win.

Things can change very rapidly, but as things stand now, Bernie Sanders’ support among Democrats nationally is strong.
SuperTuesday, less than 3 weeks from now, could tell us who the Democratic nominee will be.
If Biden doesn’t win in South Carolina, he might pack it in even before Super Tuesday.

        1. They finally did a poll of South Carolina likely voters a couple of days ago. These polls are wretchedly unreliable, but they indicate his constituency there hasn’t yet melted away. The most recent poll of Nevada also indicates his constituency is holding steady. He wins these two contests and maybe it’s a race. Another survey indicates Bloomberg is strong in Florida.

          1. Tabby, there are a million retired New Yorkers in Forida. Bloomberg could make a showing that alters the race.

            1. Paint Chips, you assume Bloomberg is beloved by New Yorkers. He wasn’t a bad mayor but Giuliani was far better. In any event Bloomberg appears to have said some things that were insulting to hispanics and blacks. Those two groups are quite large and Trump is making inroads in those communities. Bloomberg’s personality will probably convince the rest to stay home.

        2. Anonymous, your article from The Hill has a link to a Morning Consult Poll. That poll, and the article that accompanies it, cast doubt on Biden. But it shows Bloomberg rising fast.

    3. “Attention Trumpers:”

Attention Paint Chips: The Democratic candidates have all moved far left and are competing with Bernie. He is the only honest one of the lot as he admits his platform is socialist.

  6. While we have the pleasure of watching the Democrat Party march toward irrelevancy, President Trump is notching wins in historic numbers. Of course this has been all over the news, right?

And although some predicted that the lack of a serious opponent would lead Republican voters to skip the primary, they came out in droves. The total number of votes cast for Trump appears to be greater than the number cast for any other incumbent president, according to the Associated Press.

  7. Happy Valentines Day to Jonathan Turley, Darren Smith, the friends I love to read here, and the opponents I enjoy arguing with. You all make this a very interesting place to visit.

    1. Happy Valentines Day to you Karen & Cindy also.

May everyday from now till then be a nice day.

I noticed a few years ago looking at the sun raises & sun sets they are all nice no matter the weather if one looks at them with the right kind of eye.

Just another beautiful day with the Lord!

  8. Maybe the Democrats should have read Mary Shelley. They created this monster. They started leaning, and then falling, hard Left. Russia took active measures to get pro-socialist and anti-capitalist propaganda in academia, under our very noses. The public education system became infested with Democrat activists from administration to elementary school teachers. School became their opportunity to shape youth to be pro-socialist, and anti-capitalist. They raised a couple of generations to hate America. To think the entire country was based on slavery. That requires not teaching them that slavery was global, since the beginning of our species. In fact, half the UN member nations do not have laws that criminalize slavery. Today. Slavery still thrives in the African continent. Today.

Rather than teach our young people that the West was at the forefront of abolishing this evil practice, they were taught the United States was evil. They gave the impression that Native Americans respected the land rights of the very first person to tread there, granting ownership to that person’s descendants into perpetuity. Utter nonsense. There were no deeds. No land rights amongst tribes. Whoever lived and hunted there, held the land or lost it to a stronger tribe. The Iroquois Nation were infamous genocidal warriors, enslaving or completely wiping out their rivals. The forbid their slaves to speak the language of their original tribe. European settlers were just a stronger, more technologically advanced tribe. By all means, enjoy modern Native American culture, lore, and art. But don’t romanticize their ancestors as peaceful Dodo birds who were genetically incapable of harming anyone ever. Our species is all the same, for good or ill.

The end product of this was milllenials who hate their country, hate capitalism, hate personal responsibility, and want socialism. Successful capitalists had a great idea, and people willingly bought their products. They would have the government be their robber barrons, tear down all success, steal it, and give it to them. What could go wrong?

Seems a bit late for Demcorats to be complaining about it. They made this happen. Most of these politicians were old enough to know better. I wonder how many are thinking it would be wise to start teaching school children why socialism is bad.

  9. Attacking Medical Monopoly Capitalism. Is the way to go. Socialism is bad. Bernie sounds like a blast wood sander. The Dem Party is going west to Siberia.

  10. Sanders primary policy issue is Berniecare which is not Medicare as it is constructed now and which involves doing away with the health insurance industry. Some, many may say the health care insurance industry offers nothing but higher prices, but, it does employ many people and I have yet to hear what becomes of this industry/ employees . Next on deck is doing away with the fossil fuel industry, again another big employer , to be replaced with what.?

Has anyone asked the Bern these questions?

      1. mespo……….I’ve noted before that I worked with James when we were both in our 30’s. He was the most intelligent, serious, hardworking, and shy political person I had ever worked with…. didn’t smoke or drink (at least not in public) and ran 7 miles each morning before work.
        Then he met the Clintons.

            1. Funny.

No affirmative action “product placement” by the communist party propaganda and indoctrination department.

              Just Americans!

  11. DNC Democrats would rather have Trump than Sanders.

They are now the pro war party and have zero problem with Trump lies about Syria and Iran.

War monger and neoconservative Bill Crystal has now declared himself a democrat?

Sanders is the only hope for getting out of the wars and DNC democrats are now the neoconservatives war party.

    1. “Sanders is the only hope for getting out of the wars and DNC democrats are now the neoconservatives war party.”

Emma, Sanders loved The Soviet Union, communism and Stalin so much that he went on his honeymoon there and is promoting similar policies. I find it amazing that you believe his type of ideology gets one out of killing others. Stalin killed tens of millions of people in the name of what Sanders loves. Not only that but some of his own leaders are talking about violent actions if they don’t get their way.

Please understand that I get Sander’s point about the average American and have agreements with many of his complaints. Unfortuately it is his solutions that are so bad and dangerous for the same people we both worry about.

      1. He had neatly stacked copies of The Militant in his office ca 1983. It’s doubtful he ever had any affection for Joseph Stalin.

In the era when he went there, they were hawking riverboat tours of the Soviet Union in The Nation. P. J. O’Rourke went on one, and wrote an amusing article for Harper’s on his time there (mostly downing vodka shots). By O’Rourke’s account, the tour group was shot through with ‘progressives’ whom the Soviet service staff found tiresome due to their endless petty complaints. They’d chuffer about the perfidy of American foreign policy and then try to show you pictures of their grandchildren.

Sanders, born in 1941, was somewhat young to be invested in the intramural factional disputes of the hard left, but people 20 years his senior – Irving Howe, Seymour Martin Lipset, Daniel Bell, Irving Kristol – were deeply immersed in them. Sanders read Trotskyist literature, not Stalinist literature.

  12. His opponents really are doing comrade Bernie a big favor with all this free publicity. If they really want him to go away, they should just stop talking about him.

    1. He’s won two contests and is leading in national polls. The principal survey sources haven’t published any polls taken in Nevada or South Carolina in the last two weeks, so we do not know what’s up there. Given how protean these donnybrooks are, he could be pwning Biden there, too. So, you say everyone should just stop talking about the leading Democratic candidate and in lieu of that discuss just what?

  13. I suspect Sanders (who has much wrong with him) is building a constituency because (1) he’s not at his fundaments a poseur and (2) he’s tapping into concerns other candidates have ignored.

We get a mess of Sanders’s promotional material and it’s distressing the degree to which he’s truckled to the purveyors of identity politics. Trotskyists we can put up with, provided they obey the law and put away the nefarious projects favored by much of the professional-managerial bourgeoisie: population replacement and racial mobilization based on social fictions. There was some indication four years ago that Sanders might improve the culture of the Democratic Party by sweeping away the Clintons and their camarilla and by resurrecting a more universalistic portside politics. Not too hopeful. Michael Harrington, Nat Hentoff, and George McGovern are still dead.

    1. You’d be less annoying to your family if you’d quit attributing your rancid modus operandi to normal people.

The Professor says what he thinks. That’s a disappointment to many of us much of the time, but that’s what he thinks. The notion he’s playing the angles is silly and gratuitous.

  14. It is soooooooo confusing to keep track of the proliferation of cults in America in this day of “religion bad, hedonism good”

“The only thing, the only thing between the United States and the abyss is the Democratic Party. That’s it. If we go the way of the British Labour Party, if we nominate Jeremy Corbyn, it’s going to be the end of days. … So I am scared to death, I really am,” Carville said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“If we lose that, we’re going to be the British Labour Party and be out in some theoretical left-wing la-la land,” he continued. “There’s a certain part of the Democratic Party that wants us to be a cult. I’m not interested in being in a cult.”

”Maxine Waters called for activists to harass members of the Trump administration in public places like gas stations and restaurants. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) encouraged activists to “get up in the face” of Republican candidates and office-holders. Hillary Clinton said Democrats “cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for.” Eric Holder declared, “When they go low, we kick them.”

    1. FishWings – do you see any downside to socialism in general and Bernie’s policies in particular? Can you understand any reason to be concerned about the direction of the Democrat party? You have been very free with your criticism about where the Republican Party is heading. Got any concerns about the direction the Demcorats are marching in?

      1. The only concern any democrat has now is, how do we convince the willfully ignorant that they have been conned by Trump. So we all can have a republic, and democracy back again.

        1. The only concern any democrat has now is, how do we convince the willfully ignorant that they have been conned by Trump.

You should be concerned. Because your efforts over the last 3 years have backfired. What remains of your willfully ignorant, are now stuck with a Democrat party marching off into oblivion. The rest of America are on to your con and further convinced President Trump needs to be reelected to preserve this republic.

          Keep digging.

        2. FishWings:

So, to make sure I understand you, you see no downside to socialism in general, Bernie’s policies in particular, or the direction the Democrat Party is headed?

Because instead of answering my question, you started talking about Trump.

        3. Fishy said: “So we all can have a republic, and democracy back again.” Was it taken away Fishy? Please share with us what it is like living in your imaginary totalitarian hell with President Trump in office, because most of the country is doing quite well — even the haters and losers.

  15. All pretense of serious legal commentary has apparently been abandoned by JT as he ignores Trumps assault on our legal institutions, which even Trump’s partisan AG was forced to acknowledge – that’s embarrassing for a supposed legal commentator – and now more fact free lobbying for Trumps weakest democratic opponent. Unmentioned by JT, is that just like 2016, when Bernie was rejected by Democratic voters 56%-43%, the moderate candidates in his neighboring state of New Hampshire got 55% to Sanders and Warren’s 35%.

    1. All pretense of serious legal commentary has apparently been abandoned by JT as he ignores Trumps assault on our legal institutions,

          It isn’t “either/or”, it’s both.)

That’s the issue I have with Homosexuals, they don’t understand it’s not both.

A hammer is not a saw & a dry hole in West Texas isn’t something a freak should put his pecker in.

And 2+2 still doesn’t equal 5, I don’t care how many ways you cut the pizza!!!!

    2. Bythebook – JT regularly comments on whether Trump is right, or wrong, and why, from a legal perspective, as well as his own opinion. If you think Turley has become a Trump lackey then you are not reading his posts.
