Das Kapital, Dude: Polling Shows Sharp Rise In Support For Socialism Among The Young

Polling in the United States and internationally is showing a sharp increase in support for socialism among young people.  Support for capitalism is waning as a new generation embraces views of collective economic policies and programs. Two hundred years after the birth of Karl Marx, his views are now coming back into vogue despite a long history of economic failures in socialist countries.

A new poll conducted June 11-25 by Momentive on behalf of Axios found that a majority (57% of U.S. adults) still have a favorable view of capitalism. However, the most notable data point is age. Those 18-34 now are evenly split on negative and positive views of capitalism. (46% vs. 49%). The dislike for capitalism rises further at younger age groups.  For those 18 to 24, the negative views outweighing positive views by a margin of 54% to 42%.

The other groups showing stronger support for socialism are black and female Americans (60% and 45%, respectively).

The same swing is being reported internationally. A new poll by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) shows younger people growing opposing to capitalism and support for socialism. The paper includes a Forefront Market Research poll of people aged between 16 and 34 in the UK. An astonishing  67 per cent say they would like to live in a socialist economic system.

The fact is that none of the Western countries are entirely capitalistic in the sense of a pure market system with no social welfare programs. They are premised on capitalistic values while creating extensive social programs to expand opportunity and support those who are impoverished. At the same time, China has a long line of billionaires who have profited handsomely from the adoption of capitalist principles and market systems.

Notably, 75 percent view climate change is a specifically capitalist problem despite the terrible record of China and other socialist countries in the area of pollution and climate change.

Nevertheless, capitalism is being blamed for an increasing number of disasters. Recently, Professor Richard Wolf, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, blamed “privatized housing” for the recent collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida.

Wolf tweeted on June 30 that “Miami’s collapsed condo shows: privatized housing violates democracy. Only condo owners voted to defer building repair. Delivery workers, condo visitors, repairers knew nothing, didn’t vote, risked injury, death. As irreducibly social, housing must be run democratically by all.”

As with climate change, the point ignores the building collapses  and lax enforcement in socialist countries. Central control has never translated to better building codes or pollution policies.

The shift in favor of socialism is no surprise for some of us. My kids were often given material and lessons in their public high schools that criticized capitalism while rarely pointing out the failures of socialist countries like Venezuela.

Indeed, Venezuela continues to receive support despite a blood-soaked regime that has destroyed free press and free speech rights as well as reducing the country into an economic basket case. Recently, the Democratic Socialists of America (which claims supporters in Congress) visited Venezuelan dictator, Nicolas Maduro.  Previously, we discussed the delegation of Chicago Teachers visiting the country and showering it with praise as political prisoners languished in the jails of Maduro.

The pandemic has led to a massive increase in government spending which is also likely to shape the views of many on the benefits of government controls and centralized programs.  These polls show a generation coming to age that is ready to embrace aspects of Marx’s Das Kapital over Smith’s Wealth of Nations.

  1. Young posted this link earlier today. I am reposting it because Natacha is trying to tell us that Democrats are not socialist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Democratic_Socialists_of_America_members_who_have_held_office_in_the_United_States. The list of card carrying socialist in the Democratic Party is long indeed. Natacha has not responded to Young’s posting. This is her continuing response to the presentation of reality. Simply put, it’s crickets. You know who she is going to vote for. The question is, are you going to vote right along with her.

      1. Eb, what does the Capitol riot have to do with the acceptance of socialism in America. You change the subject from socialism membership by Democrats to the riot. Cheap deflection is very easily recognized. You should limit your comments to your +100 for Natacha.

        1. Look at the banners you guys were waving at the Capitol. Staggering number of McCarthy-esque socialism/communism deflections.

Look, you morons can’t be helped really. You just need your viewpoint solidly defeated in elections.

          eb

    1. In truth, lately the Democrats have been acting less like Democratic Socialists and a lot more like National Socialists.

      1. You mean, like Nazi’s. 🙂

You said it earlier. Though Murray wasn’t advocating anything of the sort he warned how quickly such events could happen.

Approval of government is at a low and tribalism is at a high. Is the pulse of the nation we are seeing today much different than was seen in Nazi Germany? Many intelligent German Jews didn’t recognize what was happening in Germany. They figured wrong and most ended up dead. I think one of the Rothchild’s wives was Jewish and she almost lost her life but was able to escape due to power and money.

        1. What we are seeing isn’t so much like Nazi Germany where confidence in the government was fairly high as it is like the mood of distress and loss of confidence under the Weimar Republic that made turning to the National Socialists attractive.

The national sentiment under the Ancien Regime prior to the French Revolution is similar.

Both situations imbeded a lot of chaos so few, maybe none, could have seen what was coming. If they had, they would have turned away.

Our situation is chaotic and displays not only a loss of the people’s confidence in government, but worse a loss of the government’s confidence in itself. Harder to guess what might come next than ever in my life; worse even than 1968.

          1. In keeping in line with past U.S. policy in the middle east, it may just be time for MAGATS at Gitmo. Not saying that would be a good idea, but it may be inevitable.

            eb

          2. “What we are seeing isn’t so much like Nazi Germany where confidence in the government was fairly high as it is like the mood of distress and loss of confidence under the Weimar Republic that made turning to the National Socialists attractive.”

Thank you for making what I said clearer.

“Both situations imbeded a lot of chaos so few, maybe none, could have seen what was coming.”

That is the problem. Clarity occurs after the event not before. Based on what I have experienced and the experience of those closest to me I find the present situation the most dangerous we have seen in my lifetime.

        2. The activist fad is making it worse. Athletes who disrespect the flag, tell us our race is despised, destroy statues and memorials are telling us they are not citizens with us, they do not share American ideals, they are ‘not one of us’ as the phrase goes. They are making it easy not to see them as fellow Americans. Instead it would seem we owe them nothing but the courtesy we would extend to a rude and unpleasant foreigner, the role they have chosen.

          1. I don’t worry about intelligent activism that believes in open honest debate. What we are being permitted to see is only a small part of the debate, which makes the situation less clear and opens the country up to a rebound that we both are concerned with. I don’t advocate violence, but if we continue to follow this path, what I advocate or don’t advocate will not matter.

            1. “what I [we] advocate or don’t advocate will not matter.”
              ***
Carlyle speaking of the events leading to the worst of the French Revolution compared them to dust devils in the Sahara, rising unpredictably and beyond human control. What we want, what anyone wants, may not matter. Murray is trying to warn us, but his warnings may not matter. Everything spins away.

              1. We are not dealing with intellect. We are dealing with emotions that have lost all civility and care only for power while lusting for bloody nonsensical revenge that can only exist in the human species. The French Revolution is a good example. The King gave up the throne so the reason for the French Revolution ended without death. What came next was the worst of humanity. Don’t think it can’t happen here.

                1. Once the revolutionaries had the king’s head they set out to get each other’s heads.

I think close to half of the idealists who marched with solemn and hopeful step into the meeting of the Estates General, subsequently National Assembly, later lost their heads or fled for their lives. Bailly, an astronomer who led the famous Tennis Court Oath, was ultimately taken to the Champs de Mars on a rainy, cold day and beheaded.

                  Nobody was safe.

I don’t know why the French celebrate the Revolution. It was a nightmare.

They ended up with an Emperor who was many times more powerful and deadly than oafish Louis XVI ever wanted to be.

I wonder what we will get, if anything?

                  1. I had a discussion of this nature with John where he looked at the changes we are facing as if they were a sine curve. I disagree and look at the American Revolution as an almost accidental occurrence with only one way to go, down. I am very pessimistic.

                    1. I am pessimistic as well. A new factor is technology and near total intrusion into our lives with consequences we can’t imagine, a Kuzeweil type singularity.

                    2. I am unable to envision that singularity. I don’t think the basics features of mankind change as much as the technology. Man will continue with his struggle while technology moves at a more rapid pace providing for man’s worst instincts, weapons that become more and more destructive.

The ideas behind our country’s founding offered a way out of the loop but our tribal instincts seem to prevail.

                  2. “Bailly, an astronomer who led the famous Tennis Court Oath, was ultimately taken to the Champs de Mars on a rainy, cold day and beheaded.”

That’s hideous. (I did not know about Bailly, so thanks for that.)

Perhaps the worst example of the Revolution’s rage-driven, anti-intellectual nature is the beheading of Lavoisier — one of the giants in the history of chemistry (and arguably its father). At his trial for alleged financial improprieties (sound familiar?), the judge cut off his defense to declare: “The Republic needs neither scholars nor chemists; the course of justice cannot be delayed.” True to form, the judge was himself executed some three months later.

                    The people need circuses.

The horror of Lavoisier’s execution was eloquently expressed by the scientist Lagrange: “It took them only an instant to cut off this head, and one hundred years might not suffice to reproduce its like.”

                    1. Madam Roland, a brilliant woman, said at the foot of the scaffold something like, “I have just had the most extraordinary thought. Can I have a piece of paper and a moment to write it down?” We will never know. She was denied.

On the scaffold she remarked along the lines of, “Oh Liberty, what crimes are committed in your name.”

                      Then she was beheaded.

Her blood drenched the boards of the scaffold.

    2. From the Wikipedia link you cited: “The DSA is a political nonprofit organization and not a political party, therefore DSA members usually run as members of the Democratic Party, Green Party, Working Families Party, or as independents.” These people do NOT speak for the Democratic party, and Wikipedia is not considered reliable because anyone can post things there that aren’t vetted.

THIS DOES NOT PROVE THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS SOCIALIST OR PROMOTES SOCIALISM. But, that won’t stop Republicans from lying about it.

      2. Natacha, here is another link that confirms the Wikipedia link I posted at 3:44. Please see paragraph eight. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/05/dsa-growing-during-coronavirus/611599/. This is not an opinion article in the Atlantic. Next you will be telling us that the self avowed Socialist Bernie Sanders has no relevance in The Democratic Party. We know that after further research you will come to the reality that your party is a Socialist party and you will grace us with your hand written resignation from their rolls. So you deny the Obama “tale of Julia” and now you deny the presence of socialist in The Democratic Party. Don’t you understand that when you don’t accept proof even by outlets on the left people will begin to question your grasp on reality. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

      3. Natchy ; The Demoratzi party most certainly supports and espouses socialism/fascism. It has ranking members whom have declared themselves socialists & Marxists. As many more of the rank and file declare the same and even worse. Yet you deny this as your party politic will not allow you to admit the observed truths.
When a senile old man…puppet if you will cackles out that the 2nd amendment was always about control and some other insidious lies people like you click heels and march in lockstep to such hogwash not only willingly , but enthusiastically. And your tainted version is somehow justified because you have taken their blue pill , when the reality is quite opposite of your dogma. You would have made a good stasi in east Germany…except socialism there failed.

“The Young” are idiots – skulls full of mush – we don’t care what they think as they are not yet capable of thought.

    Socialists are frauds and charlatans.

    Socialism does not exist.

    Socialism is a specter.

Socialism is a phantom midway point, a stepping stone.

Socialists are communists and communists are the direct and mortal enemies of the U.S. Constitution, America and Americans.

Socialists are not to be negotiated with, socialists are to be cancelled and eliminated.

    Joshua 6 :

20 When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.

21 They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

  3. I’m not sure what happened to that last post?

But it made me think, how would one start this topic of Das Kapital vs the past beginnings of the US govt Capitalist system.

I think 1st people need to come top the realization that the former US govt of the people is Gone. It has already Collapsed Completely.

Most everyone in the US are now back to being in Serfdom.

    1. The 2nd thing I’d say is that likely many people who know who Warren Buffet & his partner, Charlie “Suck It Up” Munger are.

“Suck It Up’ was what Munger said to the American people complaining that the Govt Bailed out Warren & Munger after the 2088/09 Finical Crash, they helped Cause, but the Govt did not bail out the citizens.

Anyway, listen to those American Hating Aholes today. (Nice Smirk on you face Warren, you)

    2. The 3rd thing I’d point out is what the Commie/Socialist Biden/Dems/Rinos are doing currently in real time.

Now it’s been clearly pointed out enough to the public that the above Leadership & Pelosi’s/Schumer’s/McConnell’s/McCarty’s Capital Police Force , (Leadership of FBI, DOJ, Military) where at least most of the Ring Leaders that Instigated the trouble at the capital on Jan 6.

More info continue to come out about 1/6 & the at least 500 still in custody without almost no Civil Rights over 6 months later.

All that is currently being used by those same rotten Aholes as a excuse to go across the US like the Gestapo/KGB would to Round Up Political Dissidents like Trump Supporters, those dislike Biden’s polices, Christians, Police, Military & those retirees, those that swore an the USC., those that don’t trust the Govt about experimental Vaccines, etc…….

I’m posting this piece 1st to see if it’ll stay posted unlike last time then I’ll post where to find the link to this subject.

      1. I believe this is 1 of the docs they intend on hiding behind.

Search for it/read it & see if you think the same:

Fact sheet about National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism

        Released on
        June 15, 2021

      2. Update:

National File.com reports now more on this story of the ongoing investigations of what really happened at the US Capital on 1/6/2021.

Reading/viewing I think I’ll add a bit more of a disclaimer like National File’s myself as to what the known facts are. Information is still being developed & it’s believed by many of us in the public from other reports certain govt agencies are still withholding large amounts of video evidence of events on the ground 1/6/2021.

        Here’s National File.com:

National File is not accusing any of the aforementioned individuals of being undercover government operatives, agents, or affiliates, or informants, as their identities have yet to be determined and it is currently unknown as to whether or not they’ve faced charges. National File is not accusing any known individual of committing a crime.

Our publication acknowledges that many members of the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and Three Percenters are law abiding citizens who exercised their Constitutional right to peacefully protest on January 6. The fact remains that many unindicted co-conspirators affiliated with these Patriot groups appear to have ties to federal law enforcement, the FBI, or local police, potentially explaining why these unnamed individuals have not been charged despite organizing and participating in violent activity. As was noted by the Revolver report, many of these unindicted co-conspirators appeared to have been much more “aggressive and egregious participants in the very so-called ‘conspiracy’ serving as the basis for charging those indicted.”

        https://nationalfile.com/exclusive-1-6-photos-videos-show-potential-undercover-feds-participate-in-violence-assault-trump-supporters-trying-to-de-escalate/

    3. The 4th thing I would point out about this ongoing collapse.

This video below is current video of the Biden/Dem/Rino’s Invasion Forces & replacement populations from every 3rd world Crap Hole nation from around the world.

Keep in mind the number of people illegal entering since Biden was sworn in is closing in on 2 million & Biden’s crews are running the buses & planes of them 24/7!!!

      That used to be Impeachable.

  4. Americans enjoy freedom.

Americans are free to engage in free enterprise.

“Capitalism” is an irrelevant pejorative coined by Karl Marx.

  5. When the more affluent young go into a wine bar and order their expensive bottle of wine, give them a beer or a glass of water, in order to provide ‘equity’.

When those not so affluent kids get a job to buy those expensive sneakers give them cheap sandals so they can share the footwear with everyone else.

When grades are given out all should be equal. Take away points from the intelligent and hard working students and give those points to the lazy and dumb. See how long they the hard working students will remain hard working.

I think socialism should be practiced while children are still in school.

    1. As I see it, the problem of young people incresaingly embracing socialism is that, at least here in America, ‘true believers in socialism’ have only three choices of employers that allow them to be who they are on the job:

      1. academe
      2. government
      3. non-profits

A disproportionate number of socialists are camped on academic payrolls because, once they get tenure, they cannot be fired, except for ‘due cause.’ Such cause occurs only slightly more often that Haley’s Comet pays us a visit. The fact that the vast majority of of their academic colleagues share their anti-capitalist beliefs makes academe a natural place for them to pitch their tents. It also allows them to preach to ‘customers’ (students who are mostly undergraduates) who don’t know enough, or aren’t confident enough–or both–to challenge their beliefs in socialism.

  6. Excellent book for proving failure of socialism is The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism. Shoots down every argument (but Sweden!) etc. made by socialism supporters.

  7. Evidence of how poorly educated younger people are. Totally ignorant of how much socialism and communism have FAILED in other countries.

    1. You must be talking about Anonymous the Stupid. He is a failure.

  8. People don’t yearn for freedom. They yearn for security. To be taken care of. No more worries.

Being responsible for yourself and your own decisions is hard. Sacrificing to get where you want to be is hard.

If you had a choice between working 60 hour weeks for 20 years with the chance that you’d end up a self made millionaire, or broke, or a winning lottery ticket for $50 million, almost everyone would choose the latter.

It is a proven method for politicians to offer free stuff in order to get votes. That’s what most of the political rhetoric of the Left is all about, especially during election years – free college tuition, free healthcare, free money, free birth control, free Covid shots, free tests, student loan forgiveness, free child care…

The promises get more extravagant every election cycle.

Who wants to vote for the austere ant with foresight rather than the thoughtless, profligate grasshopper?

Where do they think funding from these programs come from? A magic money tree? Are rich people like King Midas, turning everything into gold no matter how high they are taxed?

Nothing is free. You pay for it. It’s just called an exorbitant $1000 premium and $12,000 deductible instead of a $5 copay with a $250 premium and $500 deductible for birth control. They call these things “free” relying on you not to do the math, which you probably can’t do anyway if you are a product of Common Core.

  9. Such support among the young is a direct result of the public education system failing to teach the facts about socialism and communism, namely that these economic/political systems are responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

It is impossible for socialism or communism to exist with strong individual rights and limited government. It is a form of slavery. You cede to the government ownership of your ideas and labor, in exchange for the government’s promise to take care of you. There is nothing you can do to get ahead. In a true socialist economy, making a profit is illegal. I knew a woman who emigrated from Moldova. She said her father owned a black market capitalist shop. The family lived in fear that their neighbors would find out and report them. It’s how they afforded better food and warmer coats.

Imagine that. Being terrified that you could go to prison for just a shop.

Capitalism is only as fair as the structure of human rights and government power upon which it operates. When the Communist Chinese Party ran out of money, it turned to a form of capitalism to survive. But there were no constitutionally protected individual rights. Workers could be imprisoned in factories to turn out cheap goods.

When capitalism overlays a system of strong individual rights and limited government, it is the most fair system in the world. People come up with ideas for goods or services to sell, and others voluntarily buy them. You are the master of your own labor and ideas.

Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system.

Socialism always runs out of other people’s money. It inevitably leads to impoverishment, and human rights abuses against those who refuse to give up their businesses or livelihoods.

Don’t even bother trying to claim that capitalist Scandinavia is socialist. Their PMs have had to explain this repeatedly to Bernie Bros for years. They are capitalists. Their poor pay higher taxes and have to contribute more in general, and they have a very strict immigration system in order to pay for a rather lush benefit system. But that system is paid for by capitalism.

Democrat socialists somehow think they can enact the rules of Venezuela and achieve the capitalist Scandinavia.

    1. Karen: Democrats are NOT socialists, and no Republican wants to do away with Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security, which are socialist. Republicans are just as guilty as Democrats for pushing socialistic things. And, no, public education isn’t the “problem”, either. The poor in this country pay more in taxes than the wealthy, which is why your hero doesn’t want to disclose his tax returns–because so many more poor and middle-class people pay more in taxes than he does. When Hillary Clinton accused him of his in debates, your hero said it proved he was “smart”. Democrats aren’t pushing to enact any “rules of Venezuela”, either. More of your “I hate Democrats” indoctrination.

You really aren’t qualified to opine about things for which you have no education. You are copying some ideas you got somewhere.

  10. “socialism” is going to be one of the hooks in the Republican messaging they will use to try to win Hispanic votes in 2022, because so many of them are from Cuba and South America where socialism produces poverty and terrible living conditions. Polling shows that it works, so they’ll use it. Just one more of Turley’s writing assignments to help Republicans.

    1. Natch. Did you take a pill this morning? Your comment makes sense.

But why do you think that people who actually experienced life under socialism hate it so much that they fled to the US?

Why do privileged whites and blacks in our universities who hate capitalism not flee to socialist countries?

I am certainly not holding them back. Hope they go, in fact.

Is there a GoFundMe page for sending radical feminists to Saudi Arabia and posh socialists to Venezuela?

      1. The problem is that Democrats aren’t promoting socialism. Republicans are lying about that just to hook Hispanic people.

          1. Young, now stop making sense. Your frankness is killing me.

  11. We need medicare for all humans in America. End medical Monopoly capitalism. But not more expansion of welfare or free housing.
End the practice of 14 year old kids getting knocked up so that they can get their check.

    1. I’m 72. I’ve been paying for social security and Medicare since the mid 1960s. This is not a freebie.

  12. Why is it we never see polls counting how many of these people pick up and move to socialist/communist countries and stay there? They complain about capitalism and yearn for socialism but never leave and live their want.

  13. Those who have been raised in “families” dependent on the taxpayers (who fund government at all levels) for everything are accustomed to it. No need to work – just play video games. No need to pay for housing or utilities or food – just use food stamps, rent subsidies, internet provided by paying customers’ “fees.” No need to pay for health care or insurance – just go to an ER. No need to get an education that prepares students to earn a living – just use some free tuition and have a good time with smartphones and drugs. Their parents, whether one or two, enabled them and caused this large number of ingrates.

  14. They like “socialism” because they’ve only ever experienced the capitalist version of it. Take Obamacare. You get to go to the same top notch medical facilities and someone else pays for it. But real socialized medicine is not that way. You wait 6 months to get that suspicious lump removed only to find that it’s malignant and then you wait another 3 months to start treatment. There is no such thing as suing for malpractice, you pays yer money and you takes yer chances. I used to live in Italy and I know. And no the government doesn’t buy you the new iPhone every 18 months. There is a reason people are trying to get out of socialist communist countries to capitalist countries.

    1. Thousands [about 200,000] of Canadians come to the US every year to pay for healthcare that is ‘free’ in Canada but not available within a reasonable amount of time. Per Frasier Institute.

Even a Canadian MP and big supporter of free Canadian healthcare flew to LA for treatment when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Another one, a bigshot politician in Newfoundland came to the US for heart surgery.

Their healthcare system is a little like grocery shelves in Communist countries. Everything is cheap but there isn’t much variety and the shelves are often empty.

The ‘socialists’ in our schools are spoiled brats who think the government should take over for their parents on the program of giving them free or cheap stuff. They will be enraged when they see what they get.

  15. I wonder what these young sjws will think when they learn that Marx was an outspoken racist and white supremacist who said shockingly unkind things about N-Word people?

  16. Nothing to worry about. All right thinking people know that the current upcoming generations (i.e. millennials and generation z) are the most moral to ever exist and will make socialism work where others have failed, right? I am quite certain that they will create heaven on earth.

What could possible go wrong now that we will have the right people running things?

And if you oppose this, you are a really evil person who wants to oppress those who differ.

  17. Liberals who are part of the systematic indoctrination of our children should be stripped of their credentials, be it teaching, reporting, political, etc.. and jailed.

  18. At some point we are going to have to look at parenting trends of the past 30 years. Kids that have ethics and who are capable of critical thought do not go to college and simply have a switch flipped. It’s on us, we, ultimately, have done this. Wake up and own it, folks.

  19. I see a common thread is being used, it’s somehow educations fault. May I remind those who believe that, it was state and federal tax cuts for the wealthy that started us on less spending for education, and of course other things like roads, new schools, water and sewer systems and railroads and airports and etc…etc…

    1. FishWings
No one said that our capitalist system is perfect – just that a better society might mean more equality and a better life for everyone. Maybe that can be achieved if we just cut taxes more and privatize everything – and lock up more people & jail them in privately-owned prisons.

    2. The reason you don’t link to actual data to support your assertions is because you can’t.

Cuts in federal marginal tax rates have ALWAYS eventually led to the government collecting more in tax revenue due to better economic growth. It often takes a year or two for the cuts in marginal tax rates to translate into new investment in productive capacity – which leads to less unemployment and more tax revenue – but it always happens.

I’d supply the actual data but it is pointless to do so. You swallow what the liars who tell you what to think want you to believe.

Again, I know you don’t care about researching actual facts, but the data show that inflation adjusted spending on K-12 education has increased 280% since 1960. (Column 4 in the attached link, adjusted using 2018-19 dollars as the base.)
      https://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d19/tables/dt19_236.55.asp?current=yes

We know how the liars you listen to have trained you to hate Reagan. Note that during the Reagan presidency, spending on K-12 education increased every year. Going from about $8000 per child in 1980-81 to $10,700 per child by the end of his presidency in 1988-89. An increase of about 34%.

Enjoy the lies you’re fed. It’s mostly fantasy.

    3. FishWings, you can dump as much money as you want into a failing education system, and not see any improvement. Education spending has actually increased many times.

As long as schools cling to proven failures like blended learning or whole word learning, rather than methods proven by literacy research to work, then it will continue to produce students who cannot read at grade level.

Common Core math is also correlated to high school graduates performing worse in math and less college ready. Yet they cling to it.

This is because the public education system refuses to employ a meritocracy in which individual teachers and schools on a whole are graded on their performance. Their teachers unions fight school choice. They want kids trapped in failing schools, without any consequences.

In spite of public educations failure to reach minimum goals for literacy and math, it still finds the time to teach young children that gender is a state of mind, indefinable. It is not related to chromosomes, genitalia, behavior, dress…just a je ne sais quoi. They teach CRT, in which people are born oppressed or oppressor based on skin color. They make children apologize for their whiteness. They teach black kids that they’re victims. They incorporate Democrat propaganda into their history and ELA, and sometimes even into math.

If you have time, play the audio for the below link on why kids are not reading at grade level. It’s lengthy, so put it on when you’ve got a drive ahead or when you’re making dinner.

      1. As usual Karen, you took the words out of my mouth. Thank you. I have no way of proving it but, I think that you have saved me a 2nd carpel tunnel surgery. Which is odd because I don’t know how to type.

  20. Seen this in the work place before I left IT. Saw it on campus when I visited my daughter at college.
A lot of today’s youth want to get paid just to show up for work, and then, after socializing with co-workers, checking all their social media accounts, then they might do a hour or so of work.
We had one guy just stopped showing up for work. He felt he was too pressured to maintain a schedule for the project and work that was demanded of him.
I have seen some of them throw fits when the internet was taken down for an unscheduled maintenance event. You would of thought someone killed their dog.

I also think these young people want their version of socialism, where they get paid to show up, check their social media, get paid for it, and then go home.
Their version of socialism is also the belief in free speech, as long as it is there version. Same goes for history. Science. Math. Grammar.

    1. I commiserate with your assessment of todays soft youth. I have sent several packing in the past few months as they want more $$ than they are worth…. a work ethic fit for only a socialist , and they near to the last could not function without having their cell phone glued to their hand. The last one is the first cause of them sent packing. I bring on a helper now and I make it clear their phone stays in the work truck. If they have any issue with that alone…it’s back to the house with them where mommy can console them . I have tried to make them at times better persons only to have their own weak ethic of work sink them. This is the youth of today… they want it all now , they want top $$ , and they are not willing to put effort or skin in the game to learn the trade.
