True Colors: J6 Staff Lash Out at Liz Cheney for Allegedly Burying Parts of the Investigation

There is a deepening division on the J6 Committee as staffers turn on Liz Cheney over the final report on the January 6th riot. Angry rhetoric is flying with staffers accusing the Committee of becoming a “Cheney 2024 campaign” while both the Cheney spokesperson and Committee spokesperson lashed out at the staff members as “disgruntled” and producing shoddy or biased work. The underlying issue, however, is important and revealing. The Committee’s color coated teams include a “Blue Team” on the failure to prepare adequately for the riot. That part of the investigation is reportedly being dumped or reduced.  Members of the “Green” and “Purple” teams are also reportedly irate.

Cheney was soundly defeated in her primary in Wyoming and will soon leave Congress. She is being pushed by some Democrats as a possible surprise candidate for House Speaker if they could get a few Republican votes. That seems highly unlikely. The Republicans are likely to end up with the identical margin held by the Democrats for the past two years. Alternatively, some Democrats want Cheney to run for president either to dog Donald Trump in the primary debates or to run as an independent to siphon off votes in the general election.

That seems to be the suspicion for some staffers in the Washington Post story.

Fifteen former and current staffers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, expressed concerns that important findings unrelated to Trump will not become available to the American public…

Several committee staff members were floored earlier this month when they were told that a draft report would focus almost entirely on Trump and the work of the committee’s “Gold Team,” excluding reams of other investigative work.

Potentially left on the cutting room floor, or relegated to an appendix, were many revelations from the “Blue Team” — the group that dug into the law enforcement and intelligence community’s failure to assess the looming threat and prepare for the well-forecast attack on the Capitol. The proposed report would also cut back on much of the work of the Green Team, which looked at financing for the Jan. 6 attack, and the Purple Team, which examined militia groups and extremism.

“We all came from prestigious jobs, dropping what we were doing because we were told this would be an important fact-finding investigation that would inform the public,” said one former committee staffer. “But when [the committee] became a Cheney 2024 campaign, many of us became discouraged.”

If true, the report will largely track the virtual exclusive focus of the hearings with open references to the 2024 election as an overriding concern.

Some of us have lamented that the J6 Committee could have been so much more than a one-sided, highly partisan investigation. House Democrats barred two Republican members originally selected by GOP leaders, who then boycotted the panel in response.

Even with the GOP boycott, the Committee could have followed the type of balanced inquiry that pursued allegations tied to the Pearl Harbor attack or Watergate. It could have insisted on balanced hearings with witnesses and dissenting views.

Nevertheless, the committee revealed important, often disturbing details. It was important for Americans to hear from figures like former attorney general Bill Barr and White House lawyers who struggled to counter unfounded advice given to Trump by outside lawyers on challenging the 2020 election. There were painful scenes of Capitol police overwhelmed at barricades and members of Congress hunkered down in offices.

Yet, the focus on a single approved narrative gave the hearings the feel of an infomercial selling a product that most of us bought two years earlier.

Now, staffers are turning on Cheney who appears to have objected to parts of the final report and wants the report to focus on Trump. Cheney’s spokesman Jeremy Adler said that the staffers in the other teams produced “subpar material” full of “liberal biases.”

Tim Mulvey, the spokesperson for the committee, criticized the staffers speaking to the media as “disgruntled” and added that “they’ve forgotten their duties as public servants and their cowardice is helping Donald Trump and others responsible for the violence of January 6th.”

It is obviously hard to address the alleged shoddy work on these other teams or claims of liberal bias. However, the “Blue Team” was a particular interest for some of us. The J6 Committee virtually ignored the issue despite ample questions over decisions by Congress leading to the riot.

The Democrats in the final hearing hammered away at documents showing that the agency knew about violent threats in the days leading up to Jan. 6th. However, the Democrats have refused to pursue the lack of preparations on Capitol Hill as a focus of the hearing. On the day of the riot, many of us noted (before the breach of security) that there was a relatively light police presence around the Capitol despite the obvious risk of a riot. Once the crowd surged, they quickly were able to gain access to the building. Conservative media have featured a video showing an officer standing by as crowds poured into the building.

That obviously does not mean that there was not violence or that Capitol police did not bravely fight to protect the building. Most of us have denounced the riot as a desecration of our constitutional process.

Moreover, at some point, officers may have shifted to deescalating as crowds surged into the building. The question is why there were not more substantial barriers, like those used at the White House. Instead, some barriers were composed of a few officers using their bikes.

The available evidence indicates that the House was warned and that the need for National Guard deployments were discussed. There is a concern that, after criticizing such deployment and fencing around the White House in the earlier riots, the Democrats did not want to be seen following the same course.

An Inspector General report indicated that police were restricted by Congress in what they could use on that day. Previously, it was disclosed that offers of National Guard support were not accepted prior to the protests. The D.C. government under Mayor Muriel Bowser used only a small number of guardsmen in traffic positions.

That focus was rejected by the Committee members and there were no dissenting views voiced on the Committee as well as a virtual bar on opposing explanations or interpretations of evidence.

The GOP is now expected to fully investigate what the Congress knew and what it did in the days leading to the breach of the Capitol. Clearly, Cheney and others did not believe that the Blue Team full findings were ready to be released. However, those findings could be reviewed by the new GOP majority as it seeks full disclosure on why the Capitol was so quickly overrun on January 6th.

  1. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Dick Cheney is a lifetime member and former director of the liberal-fascist Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and Liz is a former member. The CFR network has controlled US policy since WW2, and the left/right clown show in DC is just a distraction.

Other CFR players on the “Biden team” include the secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense, Commerce and Homeland Security. Also the CIA director, Fed chairman, and dozens more.

    1. I am not nor have I ever been a chenney supporter.

That Said the Chenney’s reflect a specific legitimate political perspective – one that was very influential in the GOP 2 decades ago, and is thankfully far less so today.

The country is in the middle of a significant political re-alignment. The makeup of the Republican and democratic parties are changing.

I am MOSTLY happy with that re-alignment – I am libertarian and the GOP is becoming more libertarian.

The Chenney’s are not at all libertarian and whether Liz Chenney becomes a democrat or not – the chenney’s and those like them are shifting to the democratic party.

I think it is very important that we have the voice of neo-cons, that does not mean they are not usually wrong.

It is wise to remember that much of the political conflicts we see today are over specific values.
That makes it easier to get past the issues of “style”.

Liz Chenney speaks for a specific set of values and those values are in near perfect conflict with those of Trump.

Much of the political fights we see are about issues completely different from what is being debated.
The J6 committee has next to nothing to do with the 2020 election, or January 6th.
It has everything to do with Chenney’s vision for the country vs. Trump’s.

  2. Funny how these commissions (9/11) have the worst human beings (Cheneys) attached to them.
Remember Cheney corralled up 10 Sec’y of Defense for 1/3 op ed. The plan came from the top leadership in DC to stop any election review.

And people’s feelings about the J6 violence seriously have not a clue how OUR GOVERNMENT does this worldwide. Ukraine doesn’t happen if Trump was still in the the chair. (Because Victoria Nuland doesn’t go over to Moscow and run her f-ing mouth. (Was On Dick Cheney’s staff, Robert Kagan/John Bolton orbit, and 2014 sh*tstirrer.)

Watch the video….and you’ll be happy to know as well Soros and Gates supports OTPOR/CANVAS, their spinoff organization.

The US government we have is at best merely criminal; and at worst, treasonous.
Nooses ’23-25 is all the rage!

  3. Are they trying to say the J6 Committee was entirely a “get Trump” political persecution? I am shocked!

  4. “Now, staffers are turning on Cheney who appears to have objected to parts of the final report and wants the report to focus on Trump. Cheney’s spokesman Jeremy Adler said that the staffers in the other teams produced “subpar material” full of “liberal biases.”

Full of liberal biases? The entire J6 tribunal has been a one sided political show trial from start to (we assume there will be) finish. Subpar? How to you grade a witch hunt and a political dog and pony show that will not permit anything but a one sided presentation of not facts but mostly fiction? This is not par for the course. They are not even on the course. The only people that really know what is going on appear to be the voters is the State of Wyoming. That is one small point of justice that touches on this tribunal. It’s a pity that the Democrats in charge of this hunt, have voters that are more intellectually challenged than themselves. Therefore for their part in this unjust political show trial…it will be justice denied, at least for the rest of America.

  5. Tin Lizzy was so soundly defeated she couldn’t even bother to run as an Independent in Wyoming. How the hell is she going to get any support to run as an Independent for President?!? People will forget all about her completely after 6 months in the unelected wilderness where no one gives two middle fingers who you are.

      1. That’s a good point. With early voting, mail ins and ballot dumpsters and the usual data cards found with uncounted votes, she probably has a pretty good chance of winning.

  6. Trump offered 10K National Guard and Nancy turned it down. And he was in on a conspiracy? There is no need to read any report, ProPublica has one at their site, it gets the Sicknick affair all wrong (still claiming he was bludgeoned) but the time line from the scene is stunning. Ms. Yogananda–who Nancy promptly promoted to Chief–ran and hid during the duration, then after they built the ring of steel around the perimeter she left officers outside and one of them got smashed up against the fence and killed by the Farrakhaner nut. Notice we never hear about that fatal attack?

  7. Shocking!! Dissension amongst the troops in a bipartisan project in Washington. Who knew that could happen??? That aside; this post by Turley is meant to try to cushion a landing space for what is surely to be a crushing report toward the R’s.

  8. Liz Cheney & Ray Epps in 2024!
I’d say it’s a no-brainer, but that term has been overused ever since pundits have been speaking of a Biden-Fetterman run.

  9. I admit that what I am about to say sounds Anti-Republican but hear me out (I am a republican).

My feeling is that Dick Cheney put his Daughter up to this J6-Committee to insure the Deep State secrets stay exactly that – Secret.
What I mean is, Donald Trump with his “Drain the Swamp” rhetorical puts the fear of God in the Democrats AND Republicans and most obviously the; FBI, CIA, DHS, Military … The Establishment. Dick Cheney & Co. has plenty of skeletons in the closet to be afraid of.

Think back about the 6 years when Trump took Office. It was obvious from the Day-One of the Trump Campaign that the D-State Collective did want an “Outsider” uncovering the Puppet-Masters and sweeping the dirt out of D.C.. After all, what would they do then? We’re talking about; Their Psyches, Their Being, Their Stature, Their Substantiated Happiness, Their Underwritten Soul with God.

Yeah – Trump scares the Hell out of Them.

Liz got ‘Used’ by her Dad, and someday down the line maybe She’ll come to that realization, maybe She won’t, and maybe She was Onboard in securing Her place on the Board of the Deep-State. – Who Gives a Damn –

In my opinion, She should give it up and enjoy Her life – She has served and now it’s time to walk away. One only has to look at Hillary to know that ‘not knowing when to quit’ will kill your chances of really truly enjoying what Life has to offer you.

I wish Her luck, but I don’t wish Her any more time in Politics. The Party needs to give Her a Gold Watch and a nice Retirement dinner-party, and send Her off on Her way.

    Just Say’in

    1. Everything you say is inarguably true save one thing.

This is not all some well organized conspiracy.

It is a conspiracy in the sense that lots of immoral people right and left are mostly independently acting to the same end – to protect the “deep state”

Obama would not have won in 2012 had he actually done anything about closing Gitmo, getting us out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bring peace rather than conflict to the mideast.

Trump lost in 2020 – because he did all the things he said he would do that disempower “the deep state”

It is even arguable that the war in Ukraine is not evidence of Biden’s incompetence, but a reward to the deep state for getting Biden elected.
War is good for large portions of the US government – and those dependent on government.

This is another area that democrats and republicans are realigning on.

Shortly after the war in Iraq started the left which has always had an anti-war bent reversed itself and returned to its anti-war anti-deep state roots.

Obama campaigned mostly as a traditional democrat in those areas.

But he governed like a Cheney Republican – in those areas.

Trump said most of the same things Obama did – and meant them.
      He had to go.

Biden is really really really good for the deep state.

It is not necescary to have a meeting of the deep state mafia Don’s to coordinate the conspiracy – they are all through self interest on the same page.

      1. Capitalism is not a conspiracy. It is millions of independent minds competing, improving, and delivering while prospering.
What we have now is millions of brainwashed useful idiots all working to destroy western civilization. Nit a conspiracy, but just as dangerous. But we do have micro conspiracies, and that cannot be denied. The Obama and Biden admins, the FBI, the CIA, DOJ, DOS, DOE, and a few others ARE in fact working together, conspiring, to destroy America.

        1. I can agree with everything you said – assuming that you do not literally mean all three letter agencies are actively conspiring together.

There are real conspiracies – what you call micro conspiracies – within parts of FBI and parts of DOJ – even with some coordination between the to.

But the huge deal is that Trump – or more importantly the approach to governing that he represents is a threat to the power of all parts of govenrment, And those in government act to protect their power.

    2. I agree but with the caveat that at 50-something years old or however old she is, she was not a dupe of her father. She is a full fledged, long term dues paying swamp dweller herself

  10. Let’s see: the staffers were gruntled and then became disgruntled when they figured out that they were being used to further Liz’ political career. So, woke underlings are starting to pay attention? Oh they grow up so fast!

    1. The Whole J6 thing is nonsense.

The worst of J6 was inconsequential in comparison to one night in Portland.

I do not care about the J6 internal cat fights.

We MOSTLY know what happened. We certainly know the least flattering version for the right.

There was no insurrection. Little or no criminal acts. A tiny amount of property destruction.

The left still does not understand that when you control the media, and nearly all distribution of information, and when you engage in heavy censorship, no one trusts you.

We can not know the truth without hearing all sides.
But we do know that where the power to control information exists, that power will be abused, and it is the truth that will suffer.

I do not know what will happen come January.

My hope is that Republicans will have their own J6 committee, That they will make public as much as possible,
I would like to see hearings – even on the matters that Democrats were driving – but real hearings where witnesses testify and are cross examined, not where they are scripted and coached. Further we need answers to why was the Capitol closed.

I do not know what the results of the Canadian Emergency powers hearings will be – I ultimately expect a whitewash.
But what has been exposed is damning – there was no basis, no need to invoke the emergency powers, and that the reason it was done was specifically because the protestors were popular and the hope was that the invocation of emergency powers would cause protestors to become violent. BTW that is not speculation – there is communications by those in government confirming that.

  11. Remarkable how Mar-a-Lago is supposedly so secure that there’s no issue with Trump storing classified docs — but so easy to access that Kanye West can bring Nick Fuentes there to have dinner with Trump, supposedly uninvited.

Does Trump’s Secret Service unit let people have dinner with Trump without checking out who they are? Fuentes as vile as they come. Explicitly racist, antisemitic, praised Hitler, says the n-word, marched w/ Nazis in Charlottesville, cheered on J6 rioters at the Capitol, is a Holocaust denier, advocates political violence/killing lawmakers…

    1. racist, antisemitic, praised Hitler, says the n-word, marched w/ Nazis in Charlottesville, cheered on J6 rioters at the Capitol, is a Holocaust denier, advocates political violence/killing lawmakers…

There you have it. If anyone believes that atheists reject dogmas and do not believe in “sin”, the above is living proof that Members of the Woke Left are a cult.

A black walmart employee killed 6 people in Chesapeake VA a few days ago, hundreds of blacks marched in Brooklyn chanting antisemitic tropes, a Green Party member, BLM ANTIFA sympathizer almost bludgeoned to death Paul Pelosi with a hammer, a NonBinary male killed 5 people at “Club Q” gay bar in Colorado Springs, CO, while the manager of the bar complains about a “new hate” against LGBTQIA+-🎶eieiooooo 🎶. Such garbage.

Behold the Yelp reviews by gay patrons of the gay bar they….hate because as is often the case, gays attack each other with a vengeance rivaled only by Leftist Democrats vs ProLife Democrats

Who said religion is dead, and “separation of church vs state” is the rule of law in America…, till you read the dogmatic pronouncements of our Woke trolls

The bartenders are nasty individuals. I’m pretty sure the one who seems to think he owns the place has a brown people problem which is sus cuz it’s a LGBTQ+ BAR. I’ve been here 3x and every single night was lame and disappointing. So I guess I’ll be taking that drive to Denver or like anywhere else

This guy, didn’t get his name. A big A hole. Had attitude for asking for an extra shot and to add lime to my drink. Threw the Limes at my drink and it landed on the counter.

Then he looked away and rolled his eyes.

So taken back. No one like this man should be working here. Not ok club Q

Edit: at the end of the night, 2 minutes before close he came over to me and ripped my beer out of my hand and told me to leave. Never had that happen by a bartender. no sir I’m chugging before I go I paid for that. Rude ass MFR

    2. “Fuentes as vile as they come.”

Now do Warnock and Farrakhan. Or Warnock and Jeremiah Wright.

      1. Don’t forget Obama’s pals, Bill Ayers, and Al Sharpton, who was in Obama’s Whitehouse over 80 times.

  12. Politicians seldom make impartial and effective investigators or law enforcers.
