The Tower for Twitter? UK Minister Calls for Jailing Social Media Bosses Who Do Not Censor Speech

As previously discussed, after Musk decided to buy Twitter, Hillary Clinton called upon European countries to force social media companies to censor Americans.  The European Union quickly responded by threatening Musk and other executives. Now, Technology and Science Secretary Michelle Donelan has announced plans to jail social media executives if they fail to censor so-called “harmful” content on their websites. The government, of course, will determine what is deemed too harmful for citizens to see or hear.

Donelan is seeking speech arrests under the UK’s Online Safety Bill, a draconian censorship bill that would effectively ban end-to-end encryption for private internet users.

The bill uses Britain’s broadcasting regulator Ofcom to censor “all forms of expression which spread, incite, promote or justify hatred” based on various progressive characteristics, including transgenderism. So the government can censor anyone who it views as promoting or justifying hatred against virtually any group. Those who do not censor can now be rounded up by Donelan and her minions.

According to a report by The Telegraph, companies will also face fines of up to 10 per cent of their global revenue should they dare to ignore Britain’s demands to preemptively delete or obscure posts violating its coming censorship regime.

The decline of free speech in the United Kingdom has long been a concern for free speech advocates. A man was convicted for sending a tweet while drunk referring to dead soldiers. Another was arrested for an anti-police t-shirt. Another was arrested for calling the Irish boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend a “leprechaun.” Yet another was arrested for singing “Kung Fu Fighting.” A teenager was arrested for protesting outside of a Scientology center with a sign calling the religion a “cult.”

Recently we discussed the arrest of a woman who was praying to herself near an abortion clinic. English courts have seen criminalized “toxic ideologies” as part of this crackdown on free speech.

Donelan is only the latest voice of a rising generation of censors. These officials proudly parade their intent to silence or jail those with dissenting views. Yet, they do so in the name of tolerance. This is why free speech is in a free fall in Europe and why we must remain vigilant in this country to resist figures like Clinton who want to bring European censorship to our shores.

  1. Time is long past in Britain for another Runnymede, but this time for Parliament.

  3. OT: SCOTUS maintains current access to the abortion pill mifepristone, staying Judge Kacsmaryk’s ruling while the case is appealed to the 5th Circuit. Justices Alito & Thomas dissented (what a surprise /s).

  4. DeSantis in Florida is doing something very similar yet no comment from Turley.

    1. Where is DeSantis asking foreign countries to censor social media ?

Or what is it that you think DeSantis is doing that is similar ?

I MIGHT agree with a claim you support with FACTs,
But I am going to presume that a vague naked allegation is meaningless.

  5. The purveyor of false information and four-letter words has been deleted again. He says Mike Lindell has to pay our $5Million. Of course, Mr. four-letter word doesn’t get things straight and is corrected, but the anonymous Mr. LINK, probably ATS, links us to a CNN page that one can’t copy. It was a CNN arbitration panel that made that decision. It’s amazing how these liars try to conceal their tracks without the least bit of embarrassment.

Both Bug and likely ATS tried to deceive the public again with phony information and only partial reporting. Why are they on this blog? It is a free-speech blog, so liars are permitted to lie.

In summary, no court or honest entity has made any decisions. Mr. Pillow owes nothing.

  6. More of the famous leftist tolerance we keep hearing about.

I am just waiting for the first s@@tlib to explain why this law is actually a good thing and dismiss anyone who disagrees as a “nazi”.

  7. The U.K. sounds like the kind of nation that would make a man want to declare his independence.

    1. @blueridge

Had the same thought, not a thing has changed there in 300 years. The famous British resentment toward Yanks is actually envy, methinks. Pretty sure the globalists hate our freedom too, these people still think their blood is a different color and their p00p is a rose garden.

  8. Mark Zuckerberg, you should listen up. The leftist are telling you that if you don’t use censorship on your platform they will put your ass in jail. Of course this is not the first time. The FBI told you the same thing. How much is enough to convince you that you too will soon feel the heavy hammer and handcuffs of the central government if you don’t toe the line? Soon the writing of history will refer to the Zuckerberg sheep as the sheep who were willingly led to the slaughter. Zuck, you did everything you could to protect yourself but they have accepted your protection money and now they are laughing in your face. It’s amazing that you don’t understand that this is how the mob always works. Once they get their claws in you they will never let go. Then again, if you grovel enough they might not put you in jail.

  9. That’s interesting. We have a Leftist finally admitting that if a private citizen engages in a misinformation/disinformation campaign, then they are protected by the 1st amendment. Excellent. The next step in his burgeoning enlightenment is the realization that his support for such a campaign is electing a government that is trying desperately to remove that protection.

  10. When your right to speak freely is taken away you will effectively become a slave. The question is, are you going to buy the rope that the Democrats want to hang you with? To quote a well known politician, “They’re gonna put you all back in chains.” You are a fool if you think that black people will be exempt from the censorship. You to will be required to tote that barge and lift that bail. Say something wrong and you’ll land in jail. Paul Robeson said it best.

    You and me
    We gotta sweat and strain
    Body all aching
    And it’s wracked with pain
    Tote that barge
    Lift that bale
    Get a little drunk
    And you land in jail
    I get’s weary
Yes I’ am sick of trying
I’m tired of living and I’m
    Feared of dying
    But that ol’ man river
    Keeps rolling along

  11. Biden’s defenders will say it was legal, but I’m not arguing legality, I’m saying it was corrupt. Before rushing to state that they have a First Amendment right (which I’m not denying) ask yourself how you’d react if this had been done by Trump.

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-campaign-blinken-orchestrated-intel-letter-discredit-hunter-biden-laptop-story-ex-cia-official-says

The lawmakers said that based on Morell’s testimony, it is “apparent” that the Biden campaign “played an active role in the origins of the public statement, which had the effect of helping to suppress the Hunter Biden story and preventing American citizens from making a fully informed decision during the 2020 presidential election.”

“Although the statement’s signatories have an unquestioned right to free speech and free association—which we do not dispute—their reference to their national security credentials lent weight to the story and suggested access to specialized information unavailable to other Americans,” they wrote.

      1. Anon – good to see you. Because it’s a high-level political campaign inducing intel officials, with the weight their credentials lend to the claim, to suppress a truthful story . . . and thereby affect the election by keeping voters from being fully informed on an issue relevant to their choice.

        1. But those 51 signatories weren’t suppressing anything, simply adding their opinion about it. Nor do we know that the story told is wholly “truthful”; there’s still a lot we don’t know, and what we do know is mixed (e.g., data on Giuliani’s purported copy of the hard drive was modified).

          1. They were aiding in the suppression of the story by creating a fiction that it was propaganda of a foreign government. It gave cover to the MSM for ignoring the story, just as Blinken wanted.

            1. The story wasn’t suppressed or ignored. It was widely discussed in the news and elsewhere, including a presidential debate. Name a MSM outlet that didn’t address it (it was covered by the NY Times, Washington Post, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, Fox, etc.). Moreover, you don’t know that it was “a fiction that it was propaganda of a foreign government.” We still do not know whether it was or wasn’t. A small fraction of the contents has been confirmed, and much of it hasn’t been confirmed, and some of it has been shown to have been altered subsequent to the FBI taking possession of the actual laptop.

              1. The evidence proves ATS is lying (see the testimony, letters, and twitter files). There was some dissemination, but it was called Russian disinformation, instead of the real thing. We now are hearing evidence that the intent behind the false Russian disinformation claim was to throw the election to Biden.

              2. Here is how Matt Taibbi put it, in part:

“By any marker, this is an enormous news story. If we go by the usual measuring stick of American scandal, the Watergate story, this potentially meets or exceed that, on almost every level. Does it reach into the current White House? Check. Was it a craven attempt to subvert the electoral process? Check again. Did a presidential candidate engineer a massive public deception? Yes, resoundingly. Did it involve intelligence agencies? Yes, and these weren’t amateurs like Nixon’s plumbers. These were 50 of the most powerful people in the intelligence world — including five former heads or acting heads of the Agency in Morell, John Brennan, Leon Panetta, Michael Hayden, and John McLughlin — conspiring to meddle in domestic politics on a grand scale….

                1. Many of these are the same people who were involved in the Collusion Delusion.

                2. Given the massive extent of the ccoverup here – why are we to trust these same people when they tell us that:

The 2020 Election was not rigged.
                  Or Trump committed various crimes.

              3. Yes, the MSM covered it – Barely. But they Covered it by Reporting that it was a fraudulent attempt by Russia to smear the Biden’s .

ALL Joe Biden’s scandals are covered that way. The MSM reports them ALL as conspiracy theories, or as debunked nonsense.

When Every claim and nearly every detail ultimately proves correct.

I would further note that DOJ/FBI investigated Gulliani for his role in Bringing the TRUTH to the public. And arrested one of his sources.

ENORMOUS efforts have been made to KILL Bury hide, or lie about the Biden family corruption story.

Todate EVERY SINGLE CLAIM regarding he Biden’s corruption has been PROVEN – most beyond ANY doubt.

All that remains to be established is whether VP Joe Biden can be PROVEN to have committed a crime.

There is no doubt crimes were committed.
There is no doubt VP Biden was involved.
There is no Doubt that Joe Biden has Lied repeatedly about his involvement.
There is no doubt that what was for sale was Joe Biden’s name and influence.
There is no doubt this was all corrupt.
All that has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt is that VP Biden sold his office for personal profit.
But what is starting to come out – as with Watergate is a vast CRIMINAL conspiracy to pervert justice.

The Standard to PROVE Criminal Corruption in office has been set very high by the courts.
It is not enough that VP Biden receive money for no apparent reason from foreign actors.
It is not sufficient to prove he met with them of associates of theirs in the white house.
It is not sufficient to prove that VP Biden acted as VP in the interests of those who were paying him.
The caselaw requires a clear Quid Pro Quo.

But the standard for a criminal coverup is MUCH lower. There are numerous clear crimes that Hunter Biden was involved in.
A long list. Ultimately it does not matter whether the efforts to kill, hide, spin, all of this were to protect Hunter From Criminal Charges or
to protect Joe from Criminal corruption inquiry – or Both.

What we NOW Clearly have is a vast conspiracy – involving the Biden Family, Joe Biden, A wide assortment of government agencies, and people, to both suppress both news investigation and reporting AND to stop government investigation of the Biden’s.

Worse still, many of the same players are those involved int he Collusion delusion – an effort to manufacture a False criminal allegation against Trump and his campaign. Again involving the DOJ/FBI as well as intelligence community.

                1. “Yes, the MSM covered it – Barely. But they Covered it by Reporting that it was a fraudulent attempt by Russia to smear the Biden’s .”

ATS tries to be deceptive and convince people of things that are lies. He mixes a bit of truth with giant lies and thinks he gets away with it.

I like how you take every part of his arguments, slice and dice them, and then open all the pieces for public viewing.

              4. We know this was not “propaganda for a foreign government” – further we KNEW that at the time. Or atleast people with the slightest critical thinking skills and familiarity with the actual facts. The NY Times first reported on the Biden’s corrupt involvement in Ukraine and eastern europe in 2015. Subsequently John Solomon reported extensively on it – gathering a massive document trove including depositions under oath, and records obtained through FOIA requests. There was more than enough evidence to investigate the corrupt dealings of the Biden’s long before the laptop emerged.
When the Laptop story surfaced in October 2020, Glenn Greenwald did a long and excellent story covering in great detail why it was CLEARLY not Russian disinformation and how it had been properly authenticated.

As is typical of Left wing nut logic free nonsense – just saying something does not make it so.

verifying a trove of information such as the Hunter Biden laptop contents is actually quite easy.

Just as verifying/falsifying the Steele Dossier – which the FBI was able to prove was TOTALLY false withing 3 months.
And KNEW was a hoax before it recevied it.

Every image, every video, every document, every email has meta data that tells you where and when it was produced.
This must all match what is in the image, video, email. Further it must also match what is either publicly known, or verifiable against known events calendars, etc. Every email has senders and recipients as well as header information tracking every mail server the email went through from the sender to the recipients. Logs on mail servers that it passed through can be checked to verify that the email did pass through. those who sent or received the email can be checked to see if they too have copies of the email.

All of this and far more is available to the FBI. But much of it is available to the Media.

I would further note that even if 1% of the contents of the HB laptop had been manufactured – we would all know it by now.
Most of you on the left KNOW that the Copies Gulliani provided to Some people, include documents – separate from the laptop images that Guiliani obtained – either From John Solomon who got them via FOIA requests, or that Guiliani obtained in Eastern Europe from Governments and banks there.

Contra the left these documents CORROBORATE the laptop contents.

Regardless if a single forged document existed – it would have been massively reported by now.

The FACT is the contents of the Laptop are Real, they were verifiable as real MANY different ways – by Oct 2020 when the NY Post story rant. The 51 signatores on the former ICE letter – KNEW or SHOULD have KNOWN.

They were engaged in a disinformation campaign of their own – and they KNEW that at the time.
That is part of why the letter is incredibly carefully worded.
That Letter does not say – the laptop is Russian disinformation.
What is says is We want you to BELEIVE it is Russian disinformation.

Anyone with the slightest ability to think critically grasped at the time the letter was made public that it was a political letter.
It was deliberately written to NOT eeven resemble an actual intelligence finding.
                It was written as propogada.

What we NOW know is that the ACTUAL CIA was involved in producing the letter.

That is illegal. It likely violates several laws – including specifically the hatch act.

It also violates a foundational principle of self government.
And that is that those PART of government can not use any government power at all to influence the outcome of an election – outside performing a CLEAR constitutional task, or execising a CLEAR congressionally delegated legal power.

Put more simply DOJ/FBI can investigate crimes – even if those involve candidates.
But Government agencies can NOT engage directly or indirectly in censoring political speech.
The can one engage directly or indirectly in political propaganda.

It is not a legitimate role of the FBI or any other government agency to seek to suppress political speech in an election – not in anyway.
This is a crime, and it goes beyond a violation of the first amendment.

The First amendment is specifically about speech. Government Election meddling is far beyond just violating the first amendment.
It is a violation of the social contract.

As are the intelligence agencies conspiring with the Biden campaign to put out political propoganda.

As is Goveronrs and Sec. States and Courts disregarding existing election laws prior to an election to favor one party or the others.

All of these are CRIMES, they are violations of the law, they are immoral, and they are violations of the social contract.
Further they are all election fraud and election rigging.

And they are ALL the kinds of things that people who would commit or hide ballot fraud would do.

        1. No, I don’t find it corrupt. I assume that the signatories sincerely held the opinion they expressed in their letter.

          1. Probably none of them believed it, anymore than the doctors who signed the letter discrediting the lab leak theory believed what they wrote. As the mafia says when wiping out their rivals, “it’s just business”.

            1. Morrell testified under oath that they were concerned about Russian interference. Perhaps you believe that he committed perjury, but I see no reason to believe that.

          2. Here is Taibbi’s take on the scandal (again):

“Does it reach into the current White House? Check.
Was it a craven attempt to subvert the electoral process? Check again.
Did a presidential candidate engineer a massive public deception? Yes, resoundingly.
Did it involve intelligence agencies? Yes, and these weren’t amateurs like Nixon’s plumbers.
These were 50 of the most powerful people in the intelligence world…”

      1. “Q: But, prior to [Secretary Blinken’s] call, you – you did not have any intent to write this statement?
        A: I did not.
Q: Okay. So his call triggered –
        A: It did, yes.
Q: – that intent in you?
        A: Yes. Absolutely.
        ====
Q: What was the intent of the statement?
        A:
        Chairman Jordan: A:
        Chairman Jordan: A:
There were two intents. One intent was to share our concern with the American people that the Russians were playing on this issue; and, two, it was [to] help Vice President Biden.
        ***
You wanted to help the Vice President why? Because I wanted him to win the election. You wanted him to win; that’s why?
        Yes, sir.
        —–

Maybe Blinkin will give us a chance to hear both of them questioned at the same time

ATS refers everyone to snippets and because the selected snippets didn’t contain the evidence. In that way ATS can claim the evidence doesn’t exist.. He should read his links before posting them. If he did he would have realized “Below are excerpts from Mr. Morell’s testimony” Another day, another deceitful reply by ATS.

  12. CENSORSHIP IN LONDON – THE “DICTATORSHIP OF THE PROLETARIAT”
    ______________________________________________________________

London, 1848, Karl Marx published the Communist Manifesto. The American Founders terminated the “dictatorship of the Monarchy” in the colonies. in 1783. The “dictatorship of the proletariat” is the product of Marx’s communism. The first consumer of Marx’s communism was Abraham Lincoln who espoused Marx’s pejoratives “capitalist” and “fleece the people” early on, even before Lincoln became the first, communist, high-criminal, American dictator, with devastating effect. Ostensibly, Lincoln’s intent was to abolish slavery but Lincoln threw the baby out with the bathwater: Lincoln threw out the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and freedom with reprehensible slavery. Lincoln must have thrown out slavery and the newly minted “illegal aliens” per the Naturalization Act of 1802, in full force and effect on January 1, 1863 – compassionate repatriation is reparation – the primary and fervent desire of all abductees is to go home. General Secretary Lincoln chose to abandon a communist, anti-American freedom, foreign, three million-man, standing army on U.S. soil in the American restricted-vote republic of Ben Franklin with potentially devastating effect, now realized (i.e. New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Oakland, Philadelphia, etc.).

“The Civil War Was a Victory for Marx and Working-Class Radicals”
Andrew Zimmerman – Andrew Zimmerman is professor of history at the George Washington University. He is writing an international history of the American Civil War.

For revolutionary socialists, the Civil War was a decisive victory in an even larger struggle between democracy and private property.

The Stars and Stripes held the place of honor at the 1865 festivities of the International Workingmen’s Association, Karl Marx’s London-based organization of socialists, communists, anarchists and trade unionists. To Americans raised in the ideological climate of the Cold War, the U.S. flag and Karl Marx might seem an odd juxtaposition, but to 19th-century working-class radicals, the triumph of the United States over the slaveholding Confederacy represented a victory not only for the formerly enslaved but also for workers everywhere.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“ON DECEMBER 3, 1861, a former one-term congressman, who had spent most of the past dozen years studying dissident economic theories, mounting challenges to the existing political order and proposing ever more radical responses to the American crisis, delivered his first State of the Union address as the sixteenth president of the United States.

“Long before 1848, German radicals had begun to arrive in Illinois, where they quickly entered into the legal and political circles in which Lincoln traveled. One of them, Gustav Korner, was a student revolutionary at the University of Munich who had been imprisoned by German authorities in the early 1830s for organizing illegal demonstrations. After his release, Korner returned to his hometown of Frankfurt am Main where, according to historian Raymond Lohne, “he was one of about fifty conspirators involved in an attack upon the two main city guardhouses and the arsenal at the police facility and jail. This admixture of students and soldiers had planned to seize cannon, muskets, and ammunition; free political prisoners accused of breaking press-censorship laws, and begin ringing the great Sturmglocke (storm bell) of the Dom, the signal for the people to come in from the countryside. At that point, the democratic revolution would be announced…. Unfortunately, they were walking into a trap…. Betrayed by both a spy in their midst, and the reluctance of the common people to rise, nine students were killed, twenty-four were seriously wounded, and by August 3, 1833, Gustav Körner found himself riding into downtown Belleville, Illinois.” “Within a decade, Korner would pass the Illinois bar, win election to the legislature and be appointed to the state Supreme Court. Korner and Lincoln formed an alliance that would become so close that the student revolutionary from Frankfurt would eventually be one of seven personal delegates-at-large named by Lincoln to serve at the critical Republican State Convention in May 1860, which propelled the Springfield lawyer into that year’s presidential race. Through Korner, Lincoln met and befriended many of the German radicals who, after the failure of the 1848 revolution, fled to Illinois and neighboring Wisconsin. Along with Korner on Lincoln’s list of personal delegates-at-large to the 1860 convention was Friedrich Karl Franz Hecker, a lawyer from Mannheim who had served as a liberal legislator in the lower chamber of the Baden State Assembly before leading an April 1848 uprising in the region—an uprising cheered on by the newspaper Marx briefly edited during that turbulent period, Neue Rheinische Zeitung—Organ der Demokratie.

  13. In the 18th century, English courts levied the death penalty in 21 types of cases, including: rioting (think BLM); offences against the administration of justice; offences against public health; smuggling; simple grand larceny and allied offences; burglary; larceny from the person (i.e., mugging); larceny and embezzlement by servants; blackmail (think Stormy Daniels); offences by bankrupts (thinnk Sam Bankman-Fried); forgery of deeds, bonds, testaments, bills of exchange, stocks, stamps, banknotes (think George Floyd); falsely personating another with intent to defraud; destroying ships to the prejudice of insurance companies; coinage offences (think the Dept of Treasury); malicious injuries to property, including arson (think Antifa). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Code#General_sources Then the death penalty was abolished in 1964, and severe sentences of any kind were reduced. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-49886053 Maybe some English judges yearn for the days of the rope.

  14. The basket of deplorables statement by Hillary Clinton was not just a campaign statement it was a display of what she truly believes in the darkness of her heart. She believes that only the elite such as herself should be allowed to be heard. For centuries it was believed that the superior kings were born with the right to do whatever they wanted to do including the imprisonment and death to anyone who might defy the state. It seems that progress with Progressives doesn’t mean what they tell us progress means. In the last twenty years they have been in favor of Regression rather than progression and they prove it to us lowly plebes day after day. Before long you will see a clamorous call for more Regression by the Regressive party at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. What a shame. Hillary didn’t get to become the American censorship queen. I only predict what is evident. The word despicable is not illustrative enough. Too over the top you might say. We called the Roman censors despicable so why should the word not apply today to those who want to do the same things that the Romans did to the slaves of Rome.

    1. TiT,
      Well said.
Look at the desperation our leftist friends have been as of late to spin away the new evidence and facts.
Over the top? I would say their absurd ways to try to justify their conduct.
However, their drive to push their agenda on the rest of us is truly disturbing. We see it in their words almost every day on this blog. More so in the articles the good professor highlights of progressives speaking to and acting out what they are really about: Gaining and keeping power to push their agenda on the rest of us.
