The Trouble with Hunter: President Biden Repeats Claim that his Son Has “Done Nothing Wrong”

In the hilarious 1955 classic, The Trouble with Harry, a group of people in a small New England town struggle over what to do with a body that keeps popping up. In one scene, the character Capt. Albert Wilesa declares “Blessed are they who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed.”

President Joe Biden has clearly taken Capt. Wilesa’s words to heart. In an interview with MSNBC, President Biden repeated the same mantra that he has maintained since the 2020 election when his son’s laptop revealed an array of possible criminal acts: Hunter has “done nothing wrong.”

In the interview, Biden declared “My son has done nothing wrong. I trust him. I have faith in him, and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”

As with media over the last four years, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle did not challenge the clearly absurd statement. Instead, she prefaced her question by stressing that there are “no ties to you” in any of his son’s alleged crimes. That is of course ignoring the mounting evidence of influence peddling, repeated references to the involvement of the president, and reports of a whistleblower alleging the President’s involvement in a bribery scheme.

However, it was Ruhle’s shrug to Biden’s claim that was the most glaring part of the low-risk interview. There is, of course, much that Hunter did “wrong.” Let’s just rattle off a few notable examples.

Tax violations: Hunter clearly did not pay his taxes and reportedly relied upon a wealthy friend of the family to pay millions after the Justice Department zeroed in on his financial dealings.

Gun violation: Hunter clearly lied on a form as part of a gun transaction on Oct. 12, 2018, when he answered “no” to the question, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

FARA violations: While leaks from the Justice Department have omitted any charges for being an unregistered foreign agent, the evidence against Biden appears as strong as past cases brought against others, including Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort. The emails show an array of foreign interests, including some with ties to foreign intelligence, paying Biden handsomely for his work and ties to his father. The emails also show Biden reaching out to top Obama Administration officials, including Antony Blinken, as part of this work.

What is also notable is that Biden’s claim is only plausible before any conviction or plea. However, it also suggests that we define what is right or wrong by what is criminal. That is a chilling view for any person, let alone a president, in defining the permissible range of conduct.

Most people would include the following as wrong even without collateral criminal acts (which could also exist).

Prostitution. Hunter Biden documents with astonishing detail his hiring of prostitutes and even may have used joint accounts or cards with his father to pay for such services.

Failure to Pay Child Support. While President Biden has continued to refuse to acknowledge his grandchild, Navy, his son has spent years fighting paternity and child support. President Biden has long campaigned against “deadbeat Dads,” but did not utter a word of concern when his son spent years resisting recognizing or supporting his daughter until a settlement was raised with the help of a court. He is now trying to reduce those payments.

This list does not include drug use in my view. Most of us are sympathetic with people who develop drug addictions. Hunter appears to have been able overcome addictions to alcohol and drugs as did his sister.

However, the biggest “wrong” is the one that Biden does not want to acknowledge because the President was the object of the wrongful conduct.

Influence Peddling. Both the Bidens and the media are eager to tie off the Hunter Biden controversy, even with the necessity of a narrow criminal indictment or plea. The hope is that a plea could be used to declare the matter closed without having to address millions of dollars reportedly generated in one of the most flagrant influence peddling operations in history.

The spin has already begun as pundits and press repeat over and over again that influence peddling is not a crime. It is true that it is not a crime in itself, but it is common for criminal acts to be committed in carrying out or concealing such influence peddling.

Putting aside any collateral crimes, however, influence peddling is still a form of corruption. Hunter Biden, his uncle James, and other Biden family members are implicated in receiving massive payments from foreign “clients” seeking to influence then Vice President Joe Biden.

It may be the favorite form of corruption in Washington, but it is still corrupt. It is still, in the President’s words, “wrong.”

I do not fault the President for defending his son. However, to paraphrase the common statement on sin, you can hate the wrong and love the wrongdoer.

  1. Svelaz says: “They can’t charge him for FARA violations because he was not promoting government or represented government interests.”
Dennis McIntyre says: “Hunter? FARA violations? There is no credible evidence Hunter acted as an unregistered agent for a foreign power.”

Methinks Svelaz and Dennis need to review 22 U.S.C.611(b) and/or 28 CFR 5.100 and perhaps rethink their statements.
I venture no opinion as to the status of Hunter; only that Svelaz and Dennis appear to not understand the scope of FARA applications.

  2. Jonathan: Josef Goebbels is now infamous for his quip: “If you repeat a lie often enough people will begin to believe it”. I put your exaggerated claims against Hunter Biden in that category. Beyond tax and gun licensing problems what do you have against Hunter? FARA violations? There is no credible evidence Hunter acted as an unregistered agent for a foreign power. It doesn’t look like David Weiss is looking at that possible charge. Prostitution? Paying for prostitutes is not exactly what I would call a major “corruption” scandal in Washington, D.C.! You won’t touch the issue of drug or alcohol abuse because that would be an unseemly attack on someone who, by all accounts, has recovered. Failure to pay child support? There are a lot of dead beat dads. Hunter may be one but does that put him at the center of a vast Biden family “corruption scandal”?

So what do you have left? “Influence peddling”? You admit that it is not a crime. But you try hard to convince us that “influence peddling is still a form of corruption”. Try to convince a judge with that argument. You would be laughed out of court! Funny, but you never complained about all the proven influence peddling and corruption during the Trump years. Double standard? You betcha. In spades!

    1. “Josef Goebbels is now infamous for his quip: ‘If you repeat a lie often enough people will begin to believe it’”.

Anyone who garnishes his opinions in citing a statement without quoting the source identifies himself for who he is: A propagandist!

Randall Bytwerk about this fabricated quote “Goebbels wouldn’t have said that in public. He always maintained that propaganda had to be truthful. That doesn’t mean he didn’t lie, but it would be a pretty poor propagandist who publicly proclaimed that he was going to lie. I know of no evidence that he actually said it.[1]

      Or: “Wiki” [2]

      1. Charlotte Kingsdale: You missed the point of my comment. But does it really matter whether the quote should be attributed to Hitler rather than Goebbels? Your comment is just a distraction. In a speech at a Nazi Party Congress in Nuremberg in 1935, Goebbels, a fanatic anti-semite, linked Boshevism with international Jewry–that there was an alleged Jewish conspiracy to destroy Western civilization. That led to the Nuremberg Race Laws and eventually the Holocaust. Hitler and Goebbels biggypacked on centuries old anti-semitic tropes. Hitler and Goebbels turned the “big lie” into an art form.

I would be the first to admit that famous quips by noted personalities are often made up. Look at the phrases attributed to Confucius and Mark Twain. Twain often complained about things he never said. Confucius was said to say: “Don’t believe all that s..t they claim I said!”. My attempt at humor.

Anti-semitic propaganda is also rampant in this country. Look at all the anti-semitic tropes about George Soros. Trump perfected the “big lie” by claiming the 2020 election was “stolen” from him by “massive election fraud”. Trump took over where Hitler and Goebbels left off. Trump knew better. His campaign advisors told him there was no evidence of election fraud–but he kept repeating the “big lie” to enrage his MAGA supporters to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6. Reporting indicates Trump read Hitler’s speeches. Why do you think he did that? To learn from the master of the “big lie”.?

If I am a “propagandist” what about Fox News that echoed Trump’s false claims about the election and the voting machines? Rupert Murdock was forced to settle the Dominion lawsuit because he knew his Fox hosts were lying about the election. You have missed the forest for the trees. Do you really believe all of Turley’s spurious claims about the Biden family? If you do please explain why you are not a “propagandist” for the hysterical claims Turley puts out every few days about the Biden family.

    2. Dennis – Let me address each of your points.
      1) The Big Lie. As someone pointed out yesterday in this blog, it was Hitler in Mein Kampf, not Goebbels, who wrote that a lie, repeated often enough, becomes a truth. Further, Hitler did not recommend repeating lies. He accused Jews of doing so.
      2) Tax charges. you briefly pass over Hunter’s tax problems. We know from Hunter’s own actions that he underreported his income by millions of dollars. Otherwise, his admitted tax liability would not have amounted to $2,000,000. Tax evasion is a 5 year felony. And, if prosecutors follow the lead of Alvin Bragg, they can probably make multiple counts in the indictment, since we are talking about multiple years of tax returns. Presumably, state returns were also false.
      3) Gun licensing. you also pass over the gun licensing charge. It is unlawful for an addict to buy a gun. 18 USC 922(g). The applicant must attest that he is not an addict. 18 USC 922(s) It is likely that Hunter was an addict when he bought his gun, and it is clear that he did not reveal his past addiction. The willful violations of these provisions would open Hunter up to another 5 year term in preison. 18 USC 924(a).
      4) FARA violation. “The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) (22 U.S.C. § 611 et seq.) is a United States law that imposes public disclosure obligations on persons representing foreign interests. . . . It requires “foreign agents”—defined as individuals or entities engaged in domestic lobbying or advocacy for foreign governments, organizations, or persons (“foreign principals”)—to register with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and disclose their relationship, activities, and related financial compensation.” wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Agents_Registration_Act#Organizations_listed_by_the_United_States_as_foreign_agents Isn’t Burisma a foreign organization, didn’t it pay gazillions of roubles to Hunter, and didn’t Hunter arrange for meetings between Burisma principals and Joe Biden? Didn’t the Burisma principals send emails to Hunter urging him to intercede on their behalves? (“According to emails obtained by the Media Action Network, a top executive of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma tasked Hunter Biden and his colleagues to help “close down” Ukrainian investigations into the company and its owner.”) http://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/emails-burisma-top-adviser-gave-list-of-deliverables-to-hunter-biden Obvioulsy, he was representing their interests.
      5) Prostitution. You regard this as minor. But the prostitutes he cavorted with are referred to as “Russian”, opening up the possiblilty of a honey-trap. Even if there is no honey, it is possible that the supply of girls on this scale involved a trafficking network.
      6) Drug usage. You say Hunter has recoverd from drug use. Even if this is true, it does not wipe away the damage that his enormous drug habit has caused to people who are harmed by the drug trade. How many cocaine addicts died? Or even growers and smugglers. Or policeman, both honest and corrupt. Or children who just got in the way. Not for one moment did Hunter, and his enabler father, think of the victims of the cocaine drug trade.
      7) Failure to pay child support. The fact that this may be common does not make it acceptable. And you ignore the fact that Hunter refused to recognize his paternity of the child.
      8) Influence peddling. You say it is a common form of corruption. But we have rarely seen influence peddling on the scale of the Biden family. Millions of dollars received from Ukraine and China, at least. But I disagree with JT in his saying that influence peddling cannot be a crime by itself. As previously noted, the bribery statute says that selling influence can be a crime when it influences an official action. We know of one such action: the coercion of the Ukrainian government to fire a public prosecutor. It would be suprising if this is the only quid-pro-quo which the DOJ can find. These foreign powers paid for something.

      1. edwardmahl: See my comment to Charlotte Kingsdale re your No. 1. As to your statement that “Hitler did not recommend repeating lies. He accused Jews of doing so”. As to the first sentence, during his 12 years as Der Fuhrer Hitler repeated and repeated his “big lie” about the Jews. How else to explain the Nuremberg Race Laws and the Holocaust? It was part of the Hitler/Goebbels long campaign against the Jews.

As to the second part of your statement please explain the “lies” Hitler accused the Jews of? German Jews were loyal to the Reimar Republic–a democratic institution. Before the Nazi takeover in 1933 Germany had a thriving Jewish population with strong community organizations. Jews had lived in Germany since Roman times. They were well integrated into German society–they spoke the language, identified with German nationality and worked alongside non-Jews. That all changed in 1933. I suppose the only “lies” German Jews committed were the “lies” they told themselves–about Hitler’s true intentions towards them. Many couldn’t believe Hitler would take away their jobs, their property and put them in concentration camps where they would die. So please explain your nonsensical claim.

        1. Dennis – quite the deflection. I was referring to a comment made by someone else on this blog about the source of the “big lie” theory. It was HItler, and, it was asserted, Hitler blamed Jews for the device. That does not mean that Hitler’s accusation had merit. It was a clarification of the historical record, which you had muddied. However, it appears that the blog commentator was correct: Here is a summary of Hitler’s remarks in Mein Kampf:
“In his famous book, “Mein Kampf” (My Struggle), Adolf Hitler characterized a lie that was so colossal no one would believe it as a “big lie.” According to Hitler, that was what the Jews had done in blaming German nationalist Erich Ludendorff for Germany’s loss in World War I.”
          https://www.recorderonline.com/news/the-big-lie/article_36cf3d08-7b0e-11ed-a093-7b900dc8b2b6.html
Now I suppose you are going to argue that Ludendorff DID cause Germany’s loss in WW I. Don’t bother. I am not attempting to prove or disprove his role in the German defeat.

    3. The big lie and the quote, “Josef Goebbels is now infamous for his quip: ‘If you repeat a lie often enough people will begin to believe it.”

Was it Goebbels who said that? Probably not. Was it Hitler? The context of that remark is in Mein Kampf, but Hitler is not the originator of the quote or the idea. He spoke German. At best, the quote is a creation by a translator.

The truth is built from facts and can (right or wrong) become a fact itself, creating more truths.

We can find an actual quote from an English speaking American that provides the idea. William James, preceding Hitler and Goebbels, said, “There’s nothing so absurd that if you repeat it often enough, people will believe it.”

      1. Psalm 10 describes perfectly our nation today

        For the wicked man boasts of his heart’s desires;
the covetous blasphemes and spurns the Lord.
In his pride the wicked says: “He will not punish.
There is no God.” Such are his thoughts.

        His path is ever untroubled;
your judgment is far from his mind.
His enemies he regards with contempt.
He thinks: “Never shall I falter:
misfortune shall never be my lot.”

        His mouth is full of cursing, guile, oppression;
mischief and deceit are under his tongue.
        He lies in wait among the reeds;
the innocent he murders in secret.

    4. The 250 known suspicious (read criminal) bank transactions in multiple LLC fronts and fly by night companies indicting 9 Biden family members of criminal corruption is something you should not have been able to miss by now.
Expecting the mafia bidens to go to prison where they belong for their crimes is of course ridiculous as the criminal cabal they are key players in runs the doj and the courts and the da’s in dc.
Just smirk and be thankful and keep paying your protection racket lip service to your masters.

    5. Its called bribery, and it is a specifically impeachable offense. How about “10 held by H for the big guy”? How about “i wont do like pops and make you give me half your income”? Among many other incriminating pieces to the puzzle. After the house committee chairman laid out a mountain of evidence of corruption, the new york times headline said “House Republican Report Finds No Evidence of Wrongdoing by President Biden”. Lmao
You sound like them. Imagine the case in idaho with the 4 dead college students butchered in their beds. now imagine the defense lawyer filing a writ of habeas corpus saying “i know you have his dna on a knife sheath found at the scene, and that his cell phone pinged near that house, 40 miles from where he lives, many times in the days prior the attack, and that his car is on video on that quiet street around the time of the murders, but none of that is evidence that he did it. So they dont have a video of him stabbing the kids, or a picture of joe holding an envelope of cash that says “thanks for getting the ukranian prosecutor fired, signed Mykola Zolovshevsky”. Give me a break. The fact that Ted Bundy’s credit card receipts followed the path and timeline of a series of similar murders in the Pacific Northwest was not evidence that he did it, right? Evidence and proof are two different things. But enough evidence constitutes proof for those who would reason.

      1. You would not want me on a jury. I take “beyond a reasonable doubt” seriously. I understand the difference between circumstantial evidence that is addative, and circumstantial evidence that is serially dependent – therefore actually reducing the probability.

At this time with the evidence currently available, and the current state of the law, I could not convict Joe Biden of a crime.

But the standard for my vote, the standard for impeachment are far lower.

I would have no problem impeaching Joe on many grounds right now.

Democrats impeachment of Trump set the standard. Political impeachment is acceptable. Regardless we have far more evidence regarding Joe than we had of Trump.

With respect to Hunter – we have Tax evasion – that is a slam dunk. His tax conduct is far worse than Manaforts. Manafort had a good argument why he did no owe further taxes. And he had already settled with the IRS. But Manafort lost. Hunter has no argument – he just did not pay taxes.
        That is criminal tax evasion.

We have the gun charge. That is a slam dunk.

        We have sex with minors.

        We have sex trafficing.

We have PWID – drug Possession with intent to Dstribute.

We have FARA violations out the whazzo – again far more egregious than those Manafort was convicted of.

The FARA problem is actually huge. While I personally have problems with the constitutionality of FARA, The successful prosecutions by Mueller pretty much forestall that claim.

But Mueller used FARA violations to make money laundering charges – If Manaforts lobbying efforts were FARA violations – because he did not register,
Then the money associated with that work was the proceeds of a crime and moving that moeny arround was money laundering.

That is not just a problem for Hunter. That is a problem for the entire Biden Clan. The FARA violations mean the shell corporations and the distribution scheme are all money laundering.

This is important – and partly why FARA should have been found unconstitutional.

Even if the Biden families influence peddling was legal – by failing to register as required by FARA it became a crime, and everything associated with it became a criminal conspiracy.

Turn about is fair play. Using the Mueller theory – which has now become accepted case law, a legal act becomes a crime because you failed to register,
And therefore the money associated with it becomes criminal proceeds, and the efforts to hide that money become money laundering – and everyone involved is now criminally culpable.

I have constantly warned those on the left here – NOT to be so shortsighted in their stratgey and tactics.
Norms and standards of conduct once broken or created become the new norm

And turn about is fair play.

  3. Americans need to realize today, what many political refugees have feared for years, that the US is teetering towards another Cuba, N. Korea, China and other Marxist nations. Yes, it can happen. The Left, like Fidel Castro in 1959, will never declare their true intentions.

  4. Problem is nearly-all (All) Sons & Daughters of the Capitol Hill D.C. Metroplex participate in forms of Hunter’s indulgences*.
My Father|My Mother is Senator/Representative So-&-So, It just the nature of being a Child (It starts with Bragging about yourself),
and that of a Parental Political Figure. Being so widespread doesn’t make it acceptable.

Hunter’s ‘indulgences’ crossed-the-line, He lost grip on ‘privilege’, and He got caught red-handed.

By no means do I think Hunter should be given leniency, In-fact the subtle treatment of His being disciplined should be no less than that of Julian Assange treatment. His dealings were Treasonous to the United States.

Idaho now has an answer for dealing with people like Him.

    * in·dul·gence
a thing that is indulged in; a luxury.
    plural noun: indulgences

    1. There is a difference between lobbying in the United States, for United States interests and doing it for foreign interests.

  5. Dear Prof Turley,

Joe Biden is an empire now. And when he acts, he creates his own reality. And while you’re studying that reality, judiciously as you will, Team Biden will act again creating other new realities which you can study too. And that’s how history will sort out .. . choosing truth over facts.

Now, as Sec. Donald Rumsfeld pointed out long ago at the very beginning of the gwot (global war on terror) and the great 2001 Space Odyssey; “There are known knowns, things we know that we know; and there are known unknowns, things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns, things we do not know we don’t know.”

I believe it’s like that with the Bidens.

For example, we know over 50 top intelligence officials wrote a letter claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop, as candidate Biden put it, a ‘Russian plan[t]’. We know the FBI is investigating, although they do not comment about on-going investigations. No matter how long it takes to finish the job. These are ‘known knowns’.

The most pressing ‘known unknowns’, other than how Putin planted Russian disinformation on the 1st son’s laptop (assuming the FBI is investigating that.), is, of course, to what extent the Biden’s long involvement in Ukraine has led all mankind the very precipice of global thermal nuclear war? Global thermal nuclear war is a terrible thing to be wrong about. Maybe the worst of things to be wrong about.

*of course, there are also unknown unknowns, things we do not know we don’t know.

    1. On 2/12/02, he stated about the lack of evidence linking the government of Iraq with the supply of WMD to terrorist groups: [1]

“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don’t know we don’t know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones.”

  6. The President is entitled to pardon his son. However, once pardoned, Hunter would be no longer be protected by the 5th amendment, at least for federal crimes, and would be compelled to testify against others – including his dad.

  7. It’s fun to watch Svelaz attempt to swat away all the cogent, logical and proper attacks on the Biden boys here today. Svelaz is like a drowning man swimming against the tide and trying desperately to hold on as he sinks deeper and deeper into the swamp.

Hey Svelaz, in about a month or two you will be singing a different tune after the party dumps this loser in order to forestall a disaster in 2024. The loser is slipping in the polls, DeSantis and Trump are ahead of him in the polls and the Democrats, your bosses, are getting really nervous. It will be the deep state that does this loser in and it will happen soon.

    1. Hullbobby, nothing being presented as evidence against Hunter Biden or the president is cogent or logical. It’s just a bunch of idiots regurgitating worn out “rationales” that still have no relevance and no significance when the law is applied. Relying on polls this early is a big mistake Hullbobby. A lot can happen between now and Election Day. Trump still faces legal problems that may put him in jail. DeSantis has his own legal problems and he still can’t peel away trump supporters who are crucial to his presidential aspirations. Remember the red wave that was sure to happen last election? You were confident about it too. Republicans tend to overhype their own chances often, especially when they have nothing to campaign on. The debt ceiling is still a big problem looming for republicans. Don’t forget about that.

    2. Trump is not ahead of Biden in any valid poll anywhere. America is puking sick of this fat liar.

      1. you really have a problem with “fat pigs,” your word for Trump, don’t you? Are you fat?

  8. Hunter appears to have been able overcome addictions to alcohol and drugs as did his sister.

Hunter is still an addict. History shows that Hunter has not come close to hitting a bottom sufficient for him to seek the transformational change needed to get on a path of lifelong recovery. My guess, he is still using and being monitored and hidden 24/7 to keep is binges out of public view, with long sessions to dry him out, and make him presentable…until the next binge.

  9. 17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

  10. Joe pimped out his crack addicted son to the Chinese to get the “investment” funds because he couldn’t take the money directly himself. He even took Hunter over to China on Air Force 2 to seal the deal. Seems pretty blatant to me. Thank you, Jonathan, for an excellent article

  11. The laundry list of hunter’s wrongs (whether criminal, civil, unethical, immoral, unconscionable, incorrect, immoral or …) is bad enough. For the USA president, who knows or must know what misconduct his son and his family have engaged in, to be proud of him and deny the wrongdoing … much worse that the underlying misconduct.

  12. “Prostitution. Hunter Biden documents with astonishing detail his hiring of prostitutes and even may have used joint accounts or cards with his father to pay for such services.”

Typical of Jonathan’s vivid imagine with everything related to the Bidens, Jonathan sincerely believes that prostitutes take credit cards.

    1. They do take credit cards, at least some of them do – particularly the more expensive ones. I estimate that about 1/2 of the AMPs in Northern Virginia that offer such services take credit cards, and even say so in their ads. To me, paying electronically for illegal services is pretty risky, but what do I know.

    2. “Jonathan sincerely believes that prostitutes take credit cards.”

      Actually, they do.

      (Speaking for a friend.)

    3. Ummmm, its called venmo or paypal, idiot. And some “dating services” absolutely take credit cards.

  13. ” […] to declare the matter closed without having to address millions of dollars reportedly generated in one of the most flagrant influence peddling operations in history.”

When the Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke lived in Paris, France he visited Luxembourg Gardens from time to time. He observed the “eternal” circling of a children’s carousel. In 1906, he wrote a poem “The Carousel”. The last strophe reads like this:

And this goes on in a rush to be over,
simply circling and rotating without a goal.
A red one, a green one, a gray one flit past,
something of a vague profile hardly begun—,
And sometimes a smile comes to me,
a rapturous one, that dazzles and lavishes itself
    in this breathless blind frolic…

      1. Thanks, but be warned:

On Wednesday, we see documents “we have never seen before”!

Chairman Comer: This thing is much bigger than anyone would have ever predicted, and it all points towards Joe Biden. The report will show the Biden family received money from many more countries than previously known and that the number of family members who benefitted is much larger.

Professor will analyze: With the new findings, DC has been shaken to its foundations, but we still need conclusive evidence to be able to correctly classify the facts.

And as usual: The carousel is making its rounds…

  14. The prog/left lives in a delusional universe. Communicating with them is impossible. They are willfully ignorant of any fact/reality that does not support their delusion. Why bother rehashing what we know. Action is all that is left as a means of removing their pernicious vision from consuming this nation. If we want change it rewuires physicsl action, not internet blather.j

      1. Traditionally, we have the soap box, the jury box, the ballot box and the ammmo box as resources to reign in a over reaching government that seeks to destroy our constitutional rights. We have seen that, at this point, the soap box has beenover taken by the prog/left. The system of justice is, at this point, a political tool of the prog/left. After the last 2 major elections we cannot trust the ballot box. That leaves one box remains.

  15. “Tax violations: Hunter clearly did not pay his taxes and reportedly relied upon a wealthy friend of the family to pay millions after the Justice Department zeroed in on his financial dealings.”

Turley leaves out the fact that is no longer an issue. The taxes have been paid. It’s not illegal or a crime to let a wealthy friend pay off your tax bill. All the IRS cares about is settling the tax bill. He failed to report certain income which is not really ‘failure to pay’.

“Gun violation: Hunter clearly lied on a form as part of a gun transaction on Oct. 12, 2018, when he answered “no” to the question, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Eh, it’s an issue that’s way too old and barely relevant. The reason why it wasn’t prosecuted earlier is because those kinds of violations are not worth prosecuting. Lots of people lie on those forms, often unintentionally. They would still have to prove intent in order to show he intentionally lied. The “admission” on his book is not enough to prove he was intentionally lying. Remember he was an addict. He could have simply forgotten about it or just skimmed over the questions like everyone else does.

“FARA violations: While leaks from the Justice Department have omitted any charges for being an unregistered foreign agent, the evidence against Biden appears as strong as past cases brought against others, including Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort.”

They can’t charge him for FARA violations because he was not promoting government or represented government interests. Manafort’s activity certainly did. Turley is supposedly a lawyer, and yet he can’t make that distinction? So, he didn’t do anything wrong there.

“Prostitution. Hunter Biden documents with astonishing detail his hiring of prostitutes and even may have used joint accounts or cards with his father to pay for such services.”

Does Turley know WHERE he conducted those “meetings”. Prostitution is legal in some countries and some states, kind of. Nevada perhaps? Trump paid stormy Daniels for sex, no?

    Influence peddling?

“It is true that it is not a crime in itself, but it is common for criminal acts to be committed in carrying out or concealing such influence peddling.

Putting aside any collateral crimes, however, influence peddling is still a form of corruption.”

No, influence peddling is a form of free speech. But Turley ignores Trumps kids engaging in influencing peddling as members of his administration. According to Turley it’s legal, but also a form of corruption. He has been dead quiet about that inconvenient fact.

“Hunter Biden, his uncle James, and other Biden family members are implicated in receiving massive payments from foreign “clients” seeking to influence then Vice President Joe Biden.”

So what? It’s not illegal or a crime to receive massive payments. Trump’s kids did this all the time. Trump’s “guests” at his DC hotel were also seeking influence.

“I do not fault the President for defending his son. However, to paraphrase the common statement on sin, you can hate the wrong and love the wrongdoer.”

Weirdly enough that’s how Turley treats Trump. He doesn’t love Trump, but he sure goes out of his way to avoid blaming him for all the wrongs everyone is pointing out.

    1. The media continue to brainwash people into believing Trump is a bigger liar than Biden.
It’s dangerous and disgusting how cable channels like MSNBC have brainwashed, propagandized and radicalized their viewers.
The media continue to shout about Trump’s crimes while turning a blind eye to obvious corruption and criminality by Joe Biden, the sitting president. Merrick Garland continues to be one of the most partisan and corrupt AG’s we’ve ever had.

      1. Trump IS a bigger liar, he’s the penultimate liar. But that’s ok. Republicans are fine with lying and deceitful behavior. When they complain about Biden lying, they don’t really care. It’s just something to fake rage over.

        1. Provide the significant lies that affected the nation negatively.

Svelaz can’t. He makes things up. We see that with people that have certain brain diseases.

          1. The Washington Post documented more than 33,000 lies, not misleading statements, during the trump admin.

            1. Is the Washington Post, or CNN, or any media, actually documenting Biden’s lies, big and small, just as diligently? Including the blatant lies told daily by his press secretary? Where’s the running ticker tape counting Biden’s Lies?

            2. Add one more to the list, “Walter”, um, “Jenny”, of your many many lies. For crying out loud, use the same name when you enter the same email address to comment

              https://jonathanturley.org/2023/05/08/the-trouble-with-hunter-president-biden-repeats-claim-that-his-son-has-done-nothing-wrong/#comment-2286536

OTOH, we see you are running out of fake names to comment on here. This might help:

Trolls aint what they used to be!

            3. Go ahead and produce the 5 most significant lies. You have 33,000 so it should be easy. Then defend them as lies.

All you can do is copy what others tell you and you can’t even get your name straight.

          2. Anonymous says,

“Provide the significant lies that affected the nation negatively.

Svelaz can’t. He makes things up. We see that with people that have certain brain diseases.”

Anonymous, they have been provided multiple times and every time it’s the same BS game you play. You don’t care about the evidence or any proof provided to you. All you will do is hurl insults and make up some BS about some other topic. You’re THAT predictable.

            1. You are a fool. Everytime the lies produced have been shown to be opinion, the truth or something that isn’t close to a lie. You are shown to lie all the time but that doesn’t stop you.

Put down the five most significant lies of the Trump administration. We are waiting. That should be easy for you based on what you claim but to date you haven’t able to record any that you could defend.

              You are a fool.

        2. Svelaz, for once I agree with you, Trump is the penultimate liar. Now go look up penultimate so you can see that it means that he is second, probably to Joe Biden.

          1. Hullboy, close…sort of.

Penultimate is next to last. penult is the second to last syllable of a word. If you are the penultimate science fiction writer of 100, you would be number 99

        3. penultimate

Svelaz, if you are going to use ‘word of the day’ desk calendar, take the extra 9.5 seconds to learn the definition.
hint; the core word is penult. Not ultimate

The stuff you think you know, but don’t, is a laugh riot.
I haven’t smiled this much since our granddaughter’s team won the weekend soccer tournament, beating the 2cnd place team by four goals to zero. 24 hours ago.

          1. Hullbobby and Iowan2: Please accept my apology. I didn’t see your spot-on posts before adding my superfluous comment.

          1. not only can svelaz not meet your challenge to list Trump’s crimes, he copycats words and phrases he likes from other posters, such as pretty please, isn’t that so, yup and nope, “thank you for proving my point,” “chill out and have a beer” (following other poster who said, “take two aspirin and check back”) etc.

    2. Whether “influence peddling” is legal or illegal under the Hobbs Act or the Anti-Bribery law depends entirely on the nature of the “pro” which is being given for the “quid” (or vice versa). What were the “massive payments” from China, Ukraine, Russia, etc. for? Nothing? Were they just no-strings gifts? Perhaps in exchange for invitations to the annual Easter Egg Roll? Maybe a state dinner? Hardly likely. Or was there the expectation that there would be a favorable “official act” from the Big Guy in return? If so, was this expectation based on something said or done by the Big Guy himself or by representatives of the Big Guy? If not, it was just “run-of-the-mill corruption”, of the kind we find under every stone in Washington. We simply do not know, and the reason we do not know is because the DOJ has either declined to seriously investigate or because they know much more than they are saying.

Turley is wrong to say that influence peddling is not illegal and Sevalez is hilariously wrong to say that “influence peddling is [just] a form of free speech”. What a laugh. But along with his Trump deflections, we expect that from him.

      1. Anonymous,

“Turley is wrong to say that influence peddling is not illegal and Sevalez is hilariously wrong to say that “influence peddling is [just] a form of free speech”. What a laugh. ”

The Supreme Court also says influence peddling is not illegal AND agrees it is a protected form of free speech. The conservatives on the Supreme Court agree with me.

        1. The Supreme Court also says influence peddling is not illegal

As usual for trolls. Wild claims with nothing to support.

    3. I would think that by now even the disciples would be sick of the “Hunter Biden Scandal” endless harping. Turley can’t come up with any actual crimes, but Fox keeps on paying him to pretend there’s a scandal here, so the harping continues unabated. Meanwhile, the Judge in Jean Carroll’s case showed he knows how to handle Trump. To prevent Trump from whining about not being allowed to attend trial, the judge allowed him until Sunday to change his mind about showing up–something unheard of–being allowed to change your mind about testifying after resting and up to the day before summation. Trump’s crimes are there for all to see–we all heard the Big Lie, the “fight like hell” speech on the Elipse, the MAL document theft and lies about returning the papers, the “I just need you to find 11,780 votes” call, trying to leverage aid to Ukraine in exchange for ginning up lies about the Bidens….actual crimes we’ve all seen and heard the proof of that Turley never comments on.

    4. “He failed to report certain income which is not really ‘failure to pay’.”

Not reporting income frequently is criminal, and in this case would be prosecuted as such but for the fact that his father is a corrupt President.

“because those kinds of violations are not worth prosecuting. “

On the other hand, this hypocrite wants to severely limit guns.

“They can’t charge him for FARA violations because he was not promoting government or represented government interests. “

That might be true because Hunter was promoting his corrupt father and raking in money to be divided by the Biden Family Crime Syndicate. FARA violations are only for Republicans, not Democrats. Who cares about violations that generally aren’t penalized. We should care about crimes committed by the Biden family and by Joe Biden.

“Trumps kids engaging in influencing peddling as members of his administration.”

Unfortunately for you, your pea-brain is unable to list anything they did wrong. I think one time you tried but you showed yourself to be uninformed and you looked like a fool.

“It’s not illegal or a crime to receive massive payments. “

It is criminal if you earn that money because of corruption while in office. The Trump kids earned their money in the private sector. Don’t you know anything?

“all the wrongs everyone is pointing out.”

Your problem, besides a deficient intellect is that you can’t list the Trump wrongs and defend them. Instead you make things up and lie.

The GERBIL on this list might be similar to you in lack of knowledge, but he is more entertaining.

      1. “Not reporting income frequently is criminal, and in this case would be prosecuted as such but for the fact that his father is a corrupt President.”

Huh? What does president Biden have to do with Hunter not reporting income and a friend helping pay a tax bill?

“because those kinds of violations are not worth prosecuting. “

On the other hand, this hypocrite wants to severely limit guns.”

Nope. It’s actually 2nd amendment supporters who have complained about the onerous questions on those forms and pushed for the ATF to ignore most of those “missed” questions.

“FARA violations are only for Republicans, not Democrats.”

Nope. They are for individuals engaged in promoting government interests and/or being government officials. Hunter did/was neither.

“Trumps kids engaging in influencing peddling as members of his administration.”

Unfortunately for you, your pea-brain is unable to list anything they did wrong. I think one time you tried but you showed yourself to be uninformed and you looked like a fool.”

LOL!! As YOU pointed out, rather stupidly, I’ve given plenty of examples. You just choose to ignore them out of convenience.

“It is criminal if you earn that money because of corruption while in office. The Trump kids earned their money in the private sector. Don’t you know anything?”

Apparently you don’t. Hunter Biden was never in office, neither were other family members of President Biden. Ivanka, and her husband were members of Trump’s administration, effectively government employees, making money using their connections. According to you that’s corruption.

Hunter Biden earned his money in the private sector too. You didn’t know that? Is that why you’re so deep in the stupid spectrum? LOL!!!

        1. “Nope. They are for individuals engaged in promoting government interests and/or being government officials. Hunter did/was neither.”

Hunter was working for CEFC and they are run by the Chinese government.

“The FARA requires individuals to register with the Department of Justice (DOJ) if they act, even through an intermediary, “as an agent, representative, employee, or servant” or “in any other capacity” at the behest of a foreign principal, including a foreign political party, government, or corporation, for purposes of engagement with a United States official to influence U.S. policy or the public”

        2. If Hunter Biden’s father wasn’t President, Hunter would likely be prosecuted criminally. I guess you are too stupid to recognize that.

Conservatives want the rule of law so that the same penalties are meted out to Biden’s son and Democrat operatives that are meted out to others. We can blame the Democrats for gun laws that do not work and for most of the violent deaths from guns. Check the stats and the Democrat cities.

Hunter was involved in influence peddling that put money in his pocket and the President. That is corruption. You won’t recognize that it is wrong because you have no morals.

Connections are not illegal. Pay for play is and the Biden family are experts at that. You put words together, but your brain doesn’t compute.

“Hunter Biden earned his money in the private sector too.”

Hunter was in the private sector. Trace the money and the influence. A pattern is easily recognized by anyone honest.

Why is it so many people call you stupid?

    5. They can’t charge him for FARA violations because he was not promoting government or represented government interests.

They have emails, that require a return email from Hunter, setting a time and place for a meeting between Vice President of the United States (Joe Biden) and the “investors”. That’s proof Hunter was being paid by foreign interests, to access government agents/officials.

      1. Iowan2, those emails don’t show anything illegal or anything that is a violation of FARA. Setting up a meeting or just name dropping is not equivalent of representing government interests or being a government official.

        1. those emails don’t show anything illegal

A foreign interest wants to infuence the Government of the United States. Hunter Biden says” I represent the Vice President, and will provide a personal private meeting between you the foreign interest, and the VP…for a fee.

That is the legal definition of

FARA requires certain agents of foreign principals who are engaged in political activities or other activities specified under the statute to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities

          1. Iowan2,

“Hunter Biden says” I represent the Vice President, and will provide a personal private meeting between you the foreign interest, and the VP…for a fee.”

LOL! That’s not what the emails say. Not even close. You wish it said that.

    6. Svelaz, only a Democrat Operative would go to bat for Hunter Biden with such verve. You really are embarrassing yourself today.

      1. Hullbobby, why not? Turley’s accusations have still not produced any evidence of any crimes or illegality.

You’re innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. So far Hunter Biden is innocent of the accusations. Can’t say the same for Trump. He’s already been indicted for tax crimes. That’s one step closer to being guilty and he’s in much bigger trouble with the law than Biden is.

    7. Svelaz, this is pathetic and beneath even you. As much as i’d like to discredit your points one a time, its so much drivel i dont even want to waste my time. Just take the gun charge excuse. He‘s off the hook because he forgot he used drugs because he was a drug addict??? There is no way to even debate someone who’s brain works like that. You really should be ignored by the other regulars here.
And thats the least egregious of your willfully ignorant statements and illogical assertions.
The constitution has a word for “influence peddling”. Its called bribery, and its an impeachable offense.

  16. Meanwhile grandaughter Finnegan (Hunter’s kid) attended the coronation in England as Dr. Jill’s +1.
Joe gave his spot to his grandkid so she could go mingle at diplomatic receptions with royalty and world leaders.
Last month Joe took Hunter on AF1 over to Ireland where he was front and center with dad on a state visit/tax payer paid Biden vacation.

The Biden family corruption is being shoved in your face — like what’s anyone going to do about it, anyway?
They’ve gotten away with their family crime racket for decades. Who’s gonna stop them?
DOJ will ignore the crimes no matter what evidence Republicans bring to light.
The Fake News media will simply let Joe continue to lie.
Joe will pardon Hunter’s slap in the wrist.
The media will run cover for Joe’s lies, treason, and corruption.

And they will continue to bury Trump in nonsense lawsuits.
While the corrupt Biden DOJ continues to aggressively target and go after MAGA Trump supporters as domestic terrorists — in order to silence them in the lead up to the next election.

Sitting back in silence is not an option, people.

    1. Joe gave his spot to Jill and his granddaughter to avoid overshadowing King Charles, and because of security concerns. The MAGA losers are seething because Dr. Jill did such a classy job of representing America. I’d like to see some actual EVIDENCE of the “crimes” allegedly committed by the “Biden Crime Family” and the “corrupt Biden DOJ”. Endless baseless claims that such things exist is proof of nothing but the gullibility of the Cult 45. We saw what the Proud Boys, the 3 Percenters and the Oath Keepers did to the Capitol–you MAGA mavens can pretend these are not acts of domestic terrorism, but we all saw them and we all know WHY they invaded the Capitol, too–to stop the peaceful transfer of power because Trump lost. We all heard the Big Lie repeated over and over again, and the “Russia Hoax” claim, but that doesn’t change the truth that Trump cheated his way into office with the help of Russian hackers and tried to cheat to stay into office by riling up Cult 45 to try to prevent Biden from taking office. Why shouldn’t the DOJ go after those who attacked the Capitol Police, broke into the Capitol, urinated and defecated all over the place and stole laptops, broke into offices and defaced the John Lewis Memorial? No one is “silencing them”, either–they are free to speak, and many of them are speaking–they are blaming your hero. Blindly believing lies is contrary to democracy, people.

      1. “The MAGA losers are seething because Dr. Jill did such a classy job of representing America.”
Classy? Hardly. ‘You Must Call Me Dr’ is as much a scumbag as her husband and the rest of the Biden clan.

      2. Gigi, your going to spin everything.

I have no reason to attack Jill Biden – nor any other first lady – too bad those ont he left have not held to the same standards.

Melania is actually classy lady. Michelle is. Jill is not. But she is first lady, and while not in either Melania or Michelle’s league, she is also not trailer trash.

At the same time – she was NOT elected to office. She was not appointed and confirmed by the Senate. She is not in any way an official representaive of the US government.

I personally am not all that bothered that Joe is flipping the Bird to Charles. Charless has been a disaterous mess his entire life. Hopefully his reign will be short,
Unfortunately Britain seems to be absent any heirs to the crown that will bring the stature and dignaty of Elizabeth, or some of the other great british monarchs.

It is hard to get worked up over Joe’s absence at the coranation of Charles.

That said – Joe Biden is president, and the UK is the most important US ally in the entire world by far.

All your excuses are garbage. Joe is not at the coronation – because he is not fit enough to do so, and because all eyes would be one him and he would fail.
No one is paying much attention to Jill – and that is appropriate.

I would note that when the US president can not appear at a function of this importance the norm is to send the Vice President.
But we all know why that was not happening.

Regardless, you constantly rant that Biden has restored US respect in the world.
        ROFL

      3. We all did see what was done at the capital.

        NOTHING.

And we have seen Democrats and the left go far out of their way to ensure that political disagreement was prosecuted as a crime.

All over the country – at the US capitol, at other capitols, at various government offices, courthouses, and even peoples homes, Those on the left shout those they do not like down. thwart government proceedings. engage in disruption, shouting down, vandalism., even arson.

All with little or no consequence.
Often YOU celebrate those doing the disruption. We have had riots at various State capitols in the past couple of months.
We have had numerous democratic representative join those riots, acting outside the rules, and outside the law to thwart legislation they did not like, or to try to force legislation they wanted.

This is exactly what you accuse those protesting at the capitol on J6 of.

        “Alas alas for you
        Hypocrites that you be
You don’t have time to scorn and to scoff
        It’s getting very late!
        Vengeance doesn’t wait!
        You snakes, you viper’s brood
You cannot escape being Devil’s food!
        Blind guides, blind fools
        The blood you spilt
        On you will fall!
        This nation, this generation
Will bear the guilt of it all!
Alas, alas alas for you! Blind fools!!”

Yet, for idiots like you – some guy peacefully escorted through the capitol wearing a viking helmet is a threat to democracy ?
        Is an insurrection ?

You rant about the proud boys or other fringe groups.

I protested to ALLOW NAZI’s and the KKK to march. I protested against Blacklisting communists.

Because a free society MUST allow those we hate the most, those intent on tearing down our system, those who hate us the most, those who would not grant us the freedom we grant them to be free to speak to protest.

Those like you do not understand that – you do not understand that when you slince the proud boys or oath keepers – or Fox or ….
That YOU become the NAZI’s and the KKK.

      4. Gigi
You ask for evidence – there is plenty. what is lacking is absolute proof.

Regardless, The difference between blind beleif and rationality is whether you are consistent.

Where is the proof of the collusion delusion ?
Where is the proof the HB laptop was russian disinformation ?

Where was the proof C19 came from the wet markets in Wuhan ?
Where was the proof that masks worked ?
Where was the proof the vaccine would work ?
Where is the proof that lockdowns work ?
Where is the proof that Trump handled covid badly ?
Where is the proof that Biden handled it better ?
Where is the proof that Trump’s economy was poor ?
Where is the Proof that Biden’s economy was good ?

Nearly every claim you make has no proof and often no evidence at all – yet you expect everyone to “beleive” – that would make you the one blingly beleiving lies – and worse selling them.

With respect to the Biden’s :
There is absolute proof that the Biden Family – atleast 12 members profited in their dealings with foreign companies and state affiliate businesses as well as even people connected to the intelligence directorates of hostile foreign powers.
That is true beyond any doubt at all.

        It also CAN be legal.

There is absolute proof that the Biden family was actively engaged in lobbying the US government as well as congress, powerful people and private intersts for those Foreign entities.
That is also true beyond any doubt at all.

        It also CAN be legal.

There is also now absolute proof that VP Biden – and the office of the VP under Biden was heavily involved in those business dealings with foreign entities.
That is also true beyond any doubt at all.

        It also CAN be legal.

It is also absolutely True that Hunter Biden as well as other members of the Biden clan were NOT registered under FARA.

Very few people have been prosecuted for FARA violations. that aspect of FARA may be unconstitutional.
But Obama started prosecuting people for FARA violatins, and SC Mueller continued it – convicting Paul Manafort when Manafort did NOT violate FARA, though Tony Podesta who Manafort Hired to do the US lobbying clearly did.
Regardless, Hunter Biden is a giant walking talking FARA violation. Hunter is the poster Boy for FARA violations.
And Finally his FARA violations are atleast partly involving business that Joe Biden and his family were part of.

I would note that Hunter is NOT the only FARA violation in the Biden Clan.

There is a tendency at the moment to fixate on Hunter, but other members of the Biden clan participated in the activities that are unarguably illegal.
We just do not have video of them smoking crack and F34King prositutes.
Hunters conduct is so abysmal it takes the air out of the discussions and makes everyone else look tame by comparison.

Is there a single member of the Trump tribe whose conduct is tiny fraction as despicable as Hunter ?

At this point what is NOT known is the exact extent of VP Joe Biden’s involvement in all of this.

Though far more is known than YOU admit

Joe Biden has LIED to all of us about this for years.

We can all forgive him for lying – or being blinded regarding his son – IF he were not also part of his son’s misconduct
But his lying about his own involvement is damning.

Do his lies prove his conduct was criminal ? No. But they DO constitute evidence of consciousness of guilt.
People do not usually lie publicly about legal conduct.

I would further note that there is a Whistle Blower at this time that claims the FBI has documented actual bribery of Joe Biden as VP.
That would be an actual crime.

Finally, I would note that in two impeachments of Trump the left has abandoned all pretense that impeachable conduct requires “high crimes and misdemeanors”.

The already proven conduct of Joe Biden is clearly impeachable.

      5. Gigi
There may not be “proof” that Hunter and Joe were influence peddling (bribery), but there is plenty of evidence. I suspect you would need video old joe holding the envelope of cash as proof, just like Svelaz. That is truly sad. And its also sad to me that no one seems to recognize the connection…how the Jan 6 rioters were emboldened in part by the unpunished acts of terrorism they witnessed nightly on the news during the summer of love. They successfully burned down a police precinct and the incoming VP was helping to bail them out of jail and encouraging them to keep it up. The left and right wing nut jobs are the SAME. The real danger is people who think one is justified.

    2. Anonymous, how is Hunter Biden riding in AF1 corruption? You do know he’s still his son, right? Did Ivanka, Jared, Don jr, Eric, or even Tiffany ride on AF1? Was that corruption too?

        1. Anonymous: one point of clarity–do you even know what a “scumbag” is? Might want to look it up. What “business” was Hunter doing, and where is the proof? If you have none then admit it’s just more alt-right blather.

          1. Scumbag = Hunter Biden. Scumbag = Joe Biden. Scumbag = Jill Biden.

There are other words for Kamala, and scumbag is not one of them. The Bidens? The Big Guy? All scumbags.

  17. Let’s all call this statement “influence peddling is not a crime” what it truly is, it’s an unethical rationalization If it isn’t illegal, it’s ethical.

In fact, this influence peddling scheme is awash with unethical rationalizations like “everybody does it”, “we can’t stop it”, “they’re just as bad”, “what they don’t know won’t hurt them”, “there are worse things”, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, “give me a break”, “nobody cares”, “that’s in the past”, and “it isn’t what it is”. You can find detailed descriptions of these unethical rationalizations and more at Unethical Rationalizations and Misconceptions.

    1. “Let’s all call this statement “influence peddling is not a crime” what it truly is, it’s an unethical rationalization If it isn’t illegal, it’s ethical.”

No, it’s simply not illegal. Whether it’s ethical or not is entire dependent on the context of what is being done. Influence peddling is also protected speech accordingly based on several rulings by the Supreme Court. Citizen’s United is one case supporting that interpretation.

You can say it’s unethical, immoral, etc. but it’s still not illegal or a crime. That’s the only rationalization that matters to those who engage in it.

Until Republican AND democrats choose to crack down on that behavior it won’t change.

        1. Selling influence isn’t illegal by law, what’s usually the raving illegal part is how the money is laundered to hide the raving unethical influence peddling.

  18. “And it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.” What does that mean? If he didn’t feel proud of him he couldn’t be doing the magnificent job he is doing of destroying the country?

    1. Administrator: “destroying the country”? That’s what Trump did–trade war with China, which caused shotrages of consumer goods and computer chips, which is contributing to inflation, nsulting NATO and EU allies, botched the pandemic, causing shutdowns of schools, businesses and restaurants to be prolonged longer than otherwise, constantly lied about the seriousness of COVID, turned a successful economy around with the worst recession since the Great Depression, only legislative accomplishment was a tax cut mostly benefitting the very wealthy, which has driven the national debt to record levels, praised White Supremacists, stoked racism and xenphobia by banning all Muslims from entering the US, calling brown people “rapists, murderers, animals and vermin”, and constantly lying. That’s not including starting an insurrection after he lost a free and fair election. These are some of the ways Trump “destroyed our country”. What has Biden done–turned around the Trump recession, record unemployment, schools, businesses and restaurants open for business, got passed a historic infrastructure act that will create thousands of good-paying jobs, Chips Act, Inflation Reduction Act that will lower prescription drug prices, including $35/ month cap on insulin. So, just HOW is Biden “destroy ing our country”? I want concrete examples.

      1. Do you ever notice that President Biden never closes with May God Bless the United States of America? He never says it. He only says May God protect our troops.

Why? Because everything this illegitimate Biden admin is doing is to intentionally destroy the United States of America, destroy our Constitution, destroy patriotism, and destroy our individual rights and liberties.

      2. Gigi
So ironic that you claim Trump banned “all Muslims” from entering the US, and in the very next sentence complain about his “constant lying”. And the tariffs on China caused the chip shortage and the recession that we’re not in??? My head is spinning from all the lies and irony in your rant.

  19. My apologies. I must have missed it. Is it possible to avoid the crime of money laundering related to this litany?

    1. What money was “laundered”? How much money, what was the source, and who and how was it “laundered”? I want concrete examples.

      1. You want evidence? Details? Bank accounts? Biden’s many shell companiies setup to wash money through? Tune in on Wednesday to Rep James Comer’s news conference where the investigating committee will outline Biden’s massive money laundering, tax evading, bribery, family crime syndicate.

      2. Over 10 million that they’ve located so far. And thats only 4 out of 12 banks. Checks to grandkids…wow

I know, thats not evidence of anything, is it??? Just like Idaho, where those fascists think that DNA on a knife sheath is not evidence of anything other than that guys DNA somehow got on a random knife sheath. Doesnt even mean he ever touched it, much less that he was the murderer. For gods sake, he may have set his half eaten hamburger on it when it was on the shelf at bass pro shops. Its not “proof” of anything.

  20. As long as the mentally ill single progressive women can get 36 week abortions and it is legal to sterilize (either through surgery or puberty blockers) progressive transgender children – biden is safe.

    1. There is no such thing as a third-trimester elective abortion in the absence of threat to the mother or severe fetal abnormalities. No one can “sterilize” someone underage. That doesn’t happen, either.

      1. feeding a 10 year old hormone blockers = chemical castration. Ditto for females. High levels of testosterone effectively stops menstruation.

Those children are never going to create life.

      2. So you say there abortion restrictions? Are you OK with that? There are states that allow it. by the way. Whether or not there are providers is another question.
