Pro-Life Display Shut Down at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

Another pro-life display was attacked on a campus this week with little response from the university. Students who set up a table on pro-life issues ahead of a speech by Vice President Kamala Harris were surrounded and had to be escorted to safety by campus police. What was missing was any indication that the university would punish those students who shut down the display. Posted videos show students trashing the display and leading to the intervention of campus police.  One video from Students for Life shows a group of students chanting “F— ‘dem kids,” “Black Lives Matter” and “Go home.”  The counterdemonstrations are themselves protected acts of free speech. However, surrounding the table and vandalizing displays is an effort stop others from speaking or hearing opposing views.Forcing the intervention of the police should result in some action from the university. The school code states “Free speech is central to A&T’s academic mission. The University encourages and supports open, vigorous, and civil debate across the full spectrum of society’s issues.” Yet, these students shutdown a pro-life display and forced the police intervention without any indication that the university will impose any sanctions.

This same situation has played out on various campuses. This year, a videotape showed Hunter College professor Shellyne Rodríguez trashing a pro-life student display in New York. Most were focused on her profanity and vandalism, but there were familiar phrases that appeared in her diatribe to the clearly shocked students.

Before trashing the table, she told the students, “You’re not educating s–t […] This is f–king propaganda. What are you going to do, like, anti-trans next? This is bulls–t. This is violent. You’re triggering my students.”

The videotape revealed one other thing. At Hunter College, and at other colleges, it seems that trashing a pro-life student display and abusing pro-life students is not considered a firing offense. Hunter College refused to fire Rodríguez.

The PSC Graduate Center, the labor organization of graduate and professional schools at the City University of New York, supported that decision and said Rodríguez was “justified” in trashing the display, which the organization described as “dangerously false propaganda” and “disinformation.”

Rodríguez later put a machete to the neck of a reporter, threatened to chop him up and then chased a news crew down a street with the machete in hand. Somewhere between the machete to the neck and chasing the reporters down the street, Hunter College finally decided that Rodríguez had to go.

Rodríguez denounced the school for having “capitulated” to “racists, white nationalists, and misogynists.” She explained that her firing was just a continuation of “attacks on women, trans people, black people, Latinx people, migrants, and beyond.”

Other professors have also engaged in trashing or shutting down pro-life displays.

To have this anti-free speech action taken in advance of a visit by Vice President Kamala Harris is particularly concerning.  There has been no statement issued by the Vice President on the need to ensure free expression on both sides of the abortion issue. I imagine that, if a pro-choice display was shut down, the Vice President would have reacted immediately to the denial of free speech.

As a state school, the First Amendment directly applies to the actions and politics of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. While it was not the university that shut down the display, there is the question of its failure to support the exercise of free speech on campus.

  1. Unfortunately, the school’s faculty and administration, like those of Harvard, Yale, Brown, and almost every other college and university in the United States, is full woke now and will say nothing. Indeed, they ENCOURAGE the violent censoring of views with which they disagree.

  2. Turley knows semantics matter. “Pro life” really means “anti-abortion”, but it sounds better to be “pro” something than “anti” something. Being anti-abortion is being anti the right of a woman who believes the Constitutinal protections of privacy and liberty protect her right to choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy up to the age of fetal viability–which was the law for about 50 years. The anti-abortionists’ agenda will result in women suffering, and possibly dying. I saw a piece about Indiana University Medical School’s OB-GYN residency program. Republicans in Indiana called a special session right after Dobbs so they could rush to pass a near-total ban on abortion–very limited exceptions for rape and to save the woman’s life. Because of the lack of opportunities to gain sufficient experience in pregnancy termination to qualify for board-certification, OB-GYN residents in Indiana will have to travel outside the state to get the necessary experience. They will also have to get licenses to practice in the states where they go to get training and experience, plus incur the costs for travel, room and board in an outside state. Even if they choose to stay in Indiana after finishing their residency, their skills will have limited use, so if a woman is in a life-threatening situation due to a pregnancy complication, her OB-GYN will not be as experienced in handling such a crisis as their predecessors had in the past.

On a related note, Todd Rokita, the Indiana AG who went after Dr. Caitlin Bernard, the Indiana doctor who terminated the pregnancy of the 10-year-old Ohio rape victim, back when Indiana had a more-lenient law, has had a disciplinary complaint filed against him by the Indiana Supreme Court. The charges stem from his going on Fox (non) News and accusing Dr. Bernard of various agendas and misdeeds before any charges were filed against her by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board, which is a violation of Indiana law.

    1. ” The anti-abortionists’ agenda will result in women suffering, and possibly dying.”
You forgot about the baby suffering and DYING FOR SURE.
64 million murdered babies. I believe that probably exceeds the number of citizen women capable of giving birth in the USA.
So, if all those women suffered and died immediately it still wouldn’t equal your support of the blood cult murdering spree on babies.

IF YOUR MAMMA DID IT YOU WOULDN’T BE HERE ! ( that’s EXACTLY why I consider all you people the lowest dummies with zero morals in the entire world)

    2. No parent, whether woman or man, has any right to hire a hit man to have their child killed. “Terminating a pregnancy” is only justified in the exact same circumstances that killing an adult is justified, i.e. in defense of self or others. If a baby is killing its mother, it may be killed to protect her, just as “active shooters” may be killed to protect the people they’re shooting. That is all. Anyone who performs an abortion in any other circumstances is no different from that active shooter, and it is completely legitimate to protect the baby by killing the abortionist, if there is no other way.

  3. “One video from Students for Life shows a group of students chanting “F— ‘dem kids,” “Black Lives Matter” and “Go home.”
When you indiscriminately bring the ghetto to campus, why of course, you get ghetto law. What a shock!

Academics are so damn stupid. Terminally so.

  4. More of the famous leftist tolerance we keep hearing so much about.

Why don’t we suspend the current US constitution (especially the 1st and 2nd amendments) since all forward thinking people know they are a hindrance to the achievement of a progressive society?

We might have to destroy the village to save it. Ever heard that one before?

And JT, I’m waiting for the first s@@tlib to call you a ‘nazi’ for noticing these things.

Hate to break it to you but your past liberal views are of no help now. You’re in the same boat with the rest of us deplorables.

  5. Thou Shalt Not Kill

The sixth commandment is not a suggestion.

“If they don’t stand for something, they will fall for anything.”

    – Dr. Gordon A. Eadie, “Mental Hygiene,” 1945

After 24 hours of fertilization, a human being exists; abortion is homicide.

That human being will continuously develop for an average of 76 years in the absence of abortion.

It is not her body, it is the body of a separate and distinct human being in her care.

Legal guardians, police, prison guards, teachers, nurses, etc., are not allowed to kill human beings in their care.

Mothers are not allowed to kill human beings in their care.

Abortion is not a presidential election issue.

Abortion will never be legalized federally.

Abortion is a State issue per the 10th Amendment.

Abortion is not enumerated as a right or freedom in the Constitution or Bill of Rights.

    10th Amendment

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

  6. And that is the future of America.
Really, watching the videos, a national divorce is becoming more and more like the best, logical solution.
You go your way, I will go mine. You do you over there, I will do me over here.
Forever may the two shall never meet.

  7. Silly imbeciles’: full of hate and fearful of contrary views, wetting their diapers, ranting and running around squealing out of my safe place. I say to those these fools assaulted: “Illegitimi non carborundum”.

  8. College professors and all, you would have thought they would have read Aesop’s Fables. Crying Wolf in American Society is reaching it’s tipping point. There is nothing you can do when people simply turn you off, that is, unless resorting to violence is in your playbook.

  9. The Professor should check up on the history of A&T College down through the years.

Radicalism is not a new thing there….or thuggish conduct.

There is no excusing violent behavior and unless is condemned AND criminally prosecuted with long terms of incarceration it shall only get worse for the ignoring of it.

    Examples…look all around you.

Any large urban Democrat Utopia of which Greensboro NC is one….violent crime is no longer found. predominantly in one set of neighborhoods….it has crossed those borders and is now being inflicted upon all of us.

The Perps understand one thing clearly….they do not like being subject to the same violence they inflict upon others.

Which folks….identifies the cure for the problem.

When the government refuses to enforce the law in violation of its duty and obligations under the Law…..the Law no longer exists.

That leaves it to and forces the People to defend themselves.

Is that the kind of Society we wish to live within……I suggest not.

The Ballot Box is the most desired but least effective method.

Be prepared and be willing….defend yourself and others… the Sheep Dog not the Sheep….or Wolf.

  10. “F!#K dem kids” at least deserves credit for honest messaging. At least they’re not trying to pass off the lie that abortion is “women’s health” or the other idiotic rationalizations they pretend to believe.

They just don’t care about the lives and liberty of preborn children. They are selfish and just don’t want to take responsibility for the life they created. They have no conscience.

    Kudos for the honesty.

    1. You are so smart. Actually you know nothing and your rant just showed you as a misogynistic a hole that has not an ounce of compassion in your sick little body.

  11. People make me miserable all the time, so why should I care if they are ever made miserable by a nuclear holocaust? Maybe there is a Russian submarine lurking off the coast of Virginia ready to launch its missiles..

    1. Really?
Why are you so pro-war and nuclear Armageddon? Is this new forever war not enough for you?
If there were such a nuclear holocaust I would hope you and your family would survive to see the kind of real misery that comes with it.

  12. This sums up what has been happening pretty good…

She added, “After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display. It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic.”

    Any guess who said this?

  13. Just viewed the video and was wondering what the average SAT scores were with this group? You remember those numbers they used to account for scholastic qualification.

  14. Action, on the part of the sane adults is the only response that is effective at this point. As much as I appreciate this site, it is apparent to me that if we just talk among ourselves and do nothing to alter the trajectory of destruction we are just whistling in the wind. There should be crowds of concerned taxpayers at the doors of these institutions demanding the appropriate actions against these spoiled, miseducated little college thugs and they need to spend some down time behind bars and taught the true meaning of “the rule of law”.

    1. whimsical: Trouble is that those who can dole out discipline think that doing so in cases like this is immoral or worse. Why do many conservatives have so little faith in our institutions? It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. Oh, did I mention the DOJ and the FBI? Garland and Wray? One set of laws for me, and a different set for thee.

  15. Look to the boards of trustees of these colleges, and those who appoint those trustees. When the people who influence those appointments, and their trustees, want to support free speech, suddenly the administrators will act to support free speech. And the fact that the administrators sit on their hands means that is what their trustees and the influential people behind them want.

    1. Abortion is a human rite performed for social, clinical, political, criminal, and fair weather progress. They used to hold human rites for witches, virgins, Jews, and other “burdens”, but NOW they do it for babies who lack the voice to protest, denied the civil right to equal treatment, and are disarmed to neutralize resistance. It’s a wicked solution to a deplorable problem.

    2. “If abortion is a human right and the practice will make . . .”

If the State owns a woman’s body (you know, like in China), and that State ownership makes the world a better place, would the world be better today if your mother had been compelled to have 15 children?

      1. That’s simply stupid, and as it stands the US government owns a woman’s body. Just ask those that were forced to get a vaccine, which solved nothing by the way, And I’m pro-abortion because the majority of those that abort are doing a favor to society.

        1. “That’s simply stupid . . .”

It’s amusing when people don’t grasp the premise behind their own comment.

      2. Nobody is compelled to have children. But once you have them it is absolutely the state’s right and DUTY to prevent you from having them murdered. If you try to do that you belong in prison or on the gallows.

        1. “But once you have them it is absolutely the state’s right and DUTY to prevent you from having them murdered.”

What on Earth are you talking about?
