Deprogramming “Deplorables”: Clinton Raises Need for “Formal Deprogramming” of Trump Supporters

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has caused another stir by suggesting that the millions of Trump supporters may require a “formal deprogramming” in a CNN interview. It was a moment clearly enjoyed by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, who previously suggested that the FBI should have stopped Trump from making certain campaign statements.  Even former FBI Director James Comey balked at Amanpour’s suggested censorship. Now, Amanpour has clearly found a kindred spirit.

My concern over the comment is less whether Hillary Clinton is serious. (I really do not know). I am more concerned by the continued reckless rhetoric from national leaders. I previously objected to other comments by Trump. Yet, the media rarely applies the same level of scrutiny to such comments or personal attacks from figures on the left.

Discussing the recent vacating of the position of the Speaker by all of the Democrats and eight Republicans, Clinton said that Democrats had to groom selected Republicans while treating the rest as sick cultists:

“[S]adly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions. And when do they break with him? Because at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members, but something needs to happen.”

It appears that the “basket of deplorables” are now a cabal of cultists due to “emotional, psychological needs and desires.”

Amanpour was clearly bemused by the suggestion, but the combination of the two is chilling for those of us concerned about free speech in this age of rage. Many countries have historically treated dissenters as mentally ill or requiring reeducation.

The media has long embraced the need to educate the public to accept its views. Former President Barack Obama joined a number of journalists in discussing how to reeducate the public. Obama denounced “anger-based journalism” while promoting an advocacy-journalism model in which the media shape the news for citizens who supposedly need help to properly frame ideas.

The fact that Amanpour elicited these comments only magnified the unease over the underlying intolerance for opposing viewpoints. In an interview with James Comey, Amanpour pressed Comey on why the FBI did not “shut down” President Donald Trump’s “hate speech” during the 2016 presidential election.

Comey correctly pushed back on Amanpour by noting that she was suggesting something grossly improper and unconstitutional: “That’s not a role for government to play. The beauty of this country is people can say what they want even if it’s misleading and it’s demagoguery.”

Neither CNN nor Amanpour ever addressed a CNN host suggesting the use of the FBI to shutdown political debate.

Now, however, Amanpour has found a leader who is willing to treat political opponents as sick cultists. The sense of smug superiority is precisely why Hillary remains one of the least popular political figures in America. What is ironic is to watch Amanpour and Clinton denounce the right for reckless rhetoric and anti-democratic sentiments as they voice intolerant and inflammatory views.

Not all women who make it into public office are Diane Feinsteins and Hillary Clinton’s, but a nation of men who will tolerate women ruling over them will also tolerate the tyranny that naturally comes with it. But let me hasten to add that women ruling over a nation of homosexuals and feminists is entirely appropriate because that is Gods judgement on such a nation.

  9. Jonathan: In a further effort to help “deprogram” some of your loyal followers on this blog–here is a kind of reality check they probably are not used to.

    For starters. On Thursday Judge Engoron, on the fourth day of DJT’s civil fraud case, gave DJT a reality check by ordering him to identify any corporations he might have and any plans he might have to shift assets in an attempt to conceal. Now why would DJT try something so underhanded? Well, there go the plans for “Trump Organization III”!

    Then over at the House of Reps there is a plot to kick Matt Gaetz out for engineering the ouster of McCarthy. And it’s not coming from the Dems. More intrigue. And there is a fight brewing among the GOP about who will replace the former Speaker. More infighting. In contention, among others, are Jim Jordan, the conspiracy theorist-in-chief and Steve Scalise, who McCarthy has called the “David Duke without the baggage”. The name is well deserved. Scalise was a member of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, is an avowed white supremacist and who, in 2003, was sentenced to 15 months in jail for mail and tax fraud. Quite a line-up for the new Speakership, a former wrestling coach and a racist. Trump is apparently out of the running. He rather play golf than step in the mash pit with the rest of the conspirators who have formed a circular firing squad. Don’t expect anything to happen the rest of the year–nothing to actually help the American people. Just a lot of back stabbing among the MAGA Republicans. And guess who will have the last laugh? The Dems who can’t wait until next November’s elections to take back the House.

    And finally, there is someone else who is having a lot of laughs. Did anyone watch the first day of Jim Comer’s little impeachment inquiry? Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz literally brought down the House with charts and pictures poking holes in the MAGA Republican false claims. Now Moskowitz is having more fun–with DJT’s under and over valuations of his properties. In a letter to the Palm Beach County appraiser, Moskowitz said: “Between 2011 and 2021, you value the Mar-a-Lago property between $18 million and $28 million. Mar-a-Lago was listed as worth $490 million in financial documents given to the banks . If the property value of Mar-a-Lago is so much higher than is was appraised, will you be amending the property value in line with the Trump family’s belief that the property is well over a billion dollars?”

    Seems DJT and the MAGA Republicans are the butt of a lot of jokes these days.

    1. You do know that the appraised value of property for county tax purposes is different than the loan value or the fair market value for a real estate sale, don’t you?

      “The Big Guy” received money through his son’s business interests in foreign countries. Access to Biden was the product the Hunter businesses was selling. There is no poking holes in that no matter what games of “pin the coke on the Hunter hooker” Rep. Moskowitz was playing on the House floor.

    3. Dennis – your new friend, Jared Moskowitz, must be ill informed if he believes that the appraised values of properties for tax purposess corresponds closely to actual market values.

      1. edwardmahl: It was a joke Silly! Moskowitz knows the difference between a tax collector’s assessed value of a property for tax purposes and the actual value of the same property. That was not the purpose of his letter. In my state, which is typical, the assessor looks at what similar properties are selling for, the value of recent improvements and other factors, and then that number is multiplied by an “assessment rate”, a uniform percentage that is typically 80% to 90% to arrive at the taxable value of the property. The tax assessment and market value are not the same thing. Moskowitz knows this.

        The problem with DJT is that he consistently misstated the value of his properties on his statements of financial conditions–including Mar-a-Lago. He valued that property at between $426.5 million $612 million. The Palm Beach County Assessor appraised the market value of Mar-a-Lago at between $18 million and $27.6 million. So DJT overvalued the property by 2,300%!

        But it was not just Mar-a-Lago. DJT claimed his Trump Tower suite was 30,000 sq. ft when it was actually only about 11,000 sq. ft. DJT’s pattern of this practice of overvaluing the value of his properties is why Judge Engoron concluded DJT had intentionally committed fraud.

        Moskowitz didn’t write his letter expecting the Palm Beach Assessor would change how it appraises Mar-a-Lago. He is not “ill informed” but simply pointing out how DJT intentionally inflated the value of his properties to get loans and then used the Assessor valuation to reduce his taxes. He did this for years. That’s years of financial and tax fraud!

    Iowan2: This is Civics 101–apparently a course you never took in school. The 6th Amendment guarantees the right of criminal defendants to a public speedy by an impartial jury. The right applies to both federal and state courts. But a criminal defendant can expressly waive the right with the consent of the judge and the prosecutors. The 7th Amendment applies to civil cases but, again, the right can be waived (See, e.g., Calif. Code of Civil Procedure, Section 631(f)). You are right that the government cannot “strip citizens of their constitutional rights” but parties can expressly waive those rights. Got it now?     There is a serious question whether the nation has sufficient railroad capacity to transport the detainees to deprogramming camps. Some believe that the deprogramming should be carried out at the existing detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and other rendition facilities outside the continental United States.

    Anonymous sources with knowledge of the matter also report that the administration is divided on whether General Mark Milley or Christopher Ray should be tapped to lead the logistics effort.

    According to sources, an influential faction within the Democratic party supports the military as being best equipped to carry out an operation of this scale. Others believe that the FBI has much better intelligence on the undesirable elements that would be served by the program.

    There is also widespread acknowledgment that many of the detainees will not benefit from deprogramming, diverting resources that could otherwise be used to implement much needed DEI education or deployed to the Ukraine. To address this problem, Dr. Anthony Fauci is reportedly the consensus choice to design and implement a science-based selection process.

    Highly placed sources have confirmed that the final solution to these and other issues is being considered at the highest levels of the administration.

The banks are ten times more sophisticated than any of the lawyers pursuing Trump. They make their own valuations of property, and the person behind the properties does in fact affect their value. What bank is saying that it was “duped”, let alone defrauded, by the financial statements in question?

    I’d like to clear up some of the misinformation posted here today. But before I do, I’d like to congratulate Squealer (Dennis) for standing on his hind legs and talking like a human, now that Napolean (Hillary) has said the quiet part out loud and given him permission.

    As for Trump giving away secrets. The United States has 18 Ohio class Submairnes currently in commission. 14 of these carry the Trident II missile. There are 24 missile tubes on each, 4 of which will be made non functional this year, per START. Each Trident II missile has 12 Mirv’s, each with a yield of about 450 kilotons each. Google it if you wanna know more than Trump.

    Trump has NO idea how many actual missiles are in place on any given day, and here’s why. First of all, our targeting packages are not chosen by the President. Would we seriously leave that to some elected dum dum? He gets to “pull the trigger” on the selected packages, thats it.
    Does anyone think we just take a sophisticated mix of radioactive materials, explosives, missile fuels, mechanics, and electronics, throw it in a missile tube, and ride it around in the ocean for 20 years? No. They are constantly in need of maintenance and repair. Target packages are modified as much as daily or more because of operability. Missiles are removed, replaced, maintained, repaired, replaced by dummy missiles, sometimes test missiles and cycled in and out of our subs. Very few people have a need to know of when and where, and Trump aint one of them. Neither is Sleepy, Pedo Joe. Get over that nonsense.

    As for “how close we can get” to enemy submarines, this is even funnier. The effectivesness of our and our enemies passive sonars are dependant on MANY factors, including, but not limited to water temp and depth, temp gradients, wave action and weather, biologics, running equipment, and even the effectiveness and talent of the Captain and crew. For many years we enjoyed a VERY distinct advantage over our enemies due to our towed array passive sonar. Many credit it as the single biggest reason (militarily speaking) that we won the Cold War. Those secrets weren’t given to our enemies by Trump, and I will leave it to your “faithful followers” to guess the persons politics who did. Hint—he was no Trump MAGA fascist cultist extremist homophobe xenophobe islamaphobe deplorable. He probably spoke a lot like Dennis.
