New York High School Students Riot After Teacher Posts Pro-Israel Image on Facebook

At Hillcrest High School in Queens this week, a New York teacher had to lock herself in her office as hundreds of high school students rioted after learning that she posted a pro-Israeli statement on Facebook. Dozens of police had to be called to quell the riot, which caused property damage throughout the school.

The chaos began shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Monday after students discovered an image on the teacher’s account from a pro-Israel rally showing her holding a poster reading “I stand with Israel.”

Hundreds of students reportedly ran into the hallways waving Palestinian flags and destroying property for roughly two hours, including pulling a fountain out of the wall. They posted images on social media with the controversial slogan “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free.”

Students reportedly attempted to breach the teacher’s classroom as school staff fought to block them. They now want the teacher fired for her personal political views.

As the teacher was rushed to her office for her protection, roughly 25 NYPD officers rushed to the school. Yet, some students said that they have located the teacher’s home address and family information for further protests.

It is a chilling example of the threats faced at schools today. The call for the teacher to be terminated is unfortunately nothing new. For years, many of us have written about this intolerance and intimidation in schools.

Yet, the violence and hatred shown in this protest shows why so many feel unsafe in our schools. We have come to the point where teachers are locking themselves in their offices for protection. These students did not just spontaneously learn this behavior. They have been told for years that they do not have to tolerate opposing views. We are now seeing that intolerance graduate into violence.

  1. In conclusion, these pro-Palestinian people behave as you would expect chimpanzees to behave…with no respect for the law, as there is no law in chimpanzee society…only the law of the jungle.

    1. You can’t blame it on the monkeys. Your embryonic vestigial tail is no proof that you were not always a distinct, and particularly violent, homo-genesis species. Homo erectus branch, most likely.

There are no animals in the jungle that can sink to the cruelty and hatefulness of human behavior. A bird will drop dead, ‘frozen on the bough, without ever having felt sorry for itself.’

*the ferocious lions, in their dens, tremble at your approach.

Zero tolerance policies come home to roost.

    1. Right. Zero tolerance means zero due process, zero competent defense, and zero judiciousness.

Not surprising, as human DNA isn’t much different from that of chimpanzees.

Yet 25 folks got shot in Chicago during Thanksgiving Holiday.

We old folks were safely at home sleeping off an overdose of Turkey and Dressing.

Bad education is far worse than the lack of education.

The New York insurrection….isn’t that what we call it these days when protests get out of hand?

The kids interfered with a government process….teaching by teachers….and used violence in the process and offered yet more violence.

All are felony crimes that shall of course not be punished.

Skip the complaint about the lack of teaching of Middle East History….concern your self on the lack of teaching of plain old American History and ignoring the teaching of Civics.

Matter of fact just work your way down to teaching reading and math or science, or plain ol’ civility and respect for others.

We took God and Patriotism out of the classroom due to the Leftist Agenda…..now we begin to see the result.

    1. It’s not the Young Kids that start these Wars. In fact The Young are directly subject to them a lot more than you Old War Mongers are. ( B.T.W. – I’m not Left, for the record I’m Right Wing – I am not Pro-War no matter Who starts it ).

Zionism – It is a metaphysical-metaphore an Ideology, not a physical world mandate.
The “Expansion” related to zionism regards “Knowledge”. It’s about: A Way Forward.

These Kids – Wars have already been invented for Them, Jobs Haven’t – Guess what, They know it, They sense it.
Now … raising Kids with no Future is no way to raise Kids.

      1. Of course they do not have a future.
If they cannot read, write, do basic math, public education just passes them along til graduation and they still cannot read, write, do basic math, but sure can talk about CRT or DEI, who is going to hire them? This is why they want social Democrat communism. They want someone else to do all the work for them and pay them to do . . . . something.

        1. I agree with that, The Educational System has degraded. The number of successful Students has dwindled and the void between Smart Students (The Ones that get something out of the system). and the Nominal Student s(The ones that do not get something out of the system) has grown wider.

“who is going to hire them?” I get what you mean.
“who is going to hire them?” from my point is, There isn’t any Jobs (Hence employers) out there. The Jobs have not been invented yet (No paradigm shift in the advancement of Labor has occurred). The Kids sense that, they also sense that Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) will reduce the opportunities for Employment (Success) , just like We saw Robotics take jobs off the Assembly Lines and subsequently took jobs from 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. Tier Vendors and then Overseas.

Yesterday I read: Bill Gates says using AI could lead to 3-day work week
          https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/bill-gates-suggests-artificial-intelligence-could-potentially-bring-three-day-work-week

So WTF are these Kids supposed to do to earn a life the rest of the week? – you get the idea.
Yes – If I were there age, I’d be scared shit-less, because there’s an alternative – War.

These Kids coming up from Central-South America, It’s not just because of over-population and un-sustainability, It’s because ‘There is no future there’. Theses Countries will not become the next China – Won’t Happen –

Globally we are hitting our Limits. I feel AOC & Co. have really created a huge problem for America. The Over Population problems of other Counties have been imported into Our own population problem. Taking away jobs from US People in a tighter and tighter employment Market.

Yeah – The Kids are right, there’s going to be Hell to Pay in the future of America.

    1. Correct, but Palestinians are not denied by the Israelis, but their own leaders.

Since 1948 Israel has created an incredible western successful country in some of the worst land in the world with almost no natural resources. And little help.

On multiple occasions they have been attacked by far superior military forces and routed them – RAPIDLY.

      Thye must remain permanently vigilant.

And still they have been incredibly successful.

They have turned israel into a bread basket for the world.
They have advanced biochemistry. Advanced defense industry,
They have built a high standard of living from nothing with nothing.

There is no reason the Paestinians could not have done the same BEFORE 1948. There is no reason they could not AFTER.

Gaza and the west bank are not the worlds largest open air prisons – they are FAILED STATES.
They are people who can not improve their own conditions.

They are the epitomy of the greviance idology of the left.

They are what happens when your self identity is victim.
Israel is what happens when you reject that.

  7. Before jumping to harmful conclusions, we should stop to consider some important context.

Hillcrest is a diverse, vibrant community with affordable housing alternatives.

A shining beacon on the hill. A exemplar of social progress. On the right side of history.

Yes, America is burning. But that’s how forests grow.

    1. What. This may be the dumbest thing I’ve read all year. Students attack a teacher for the teacher’s political opinion, and you have the gall to turn this into some sort of “diversity is our strength” BS? Seek professional mental help.

    2. Epstein– perhaps the beacon that is shining is from the embers of all that was burned to create it? Your talent as a wordsmith has given Black Lives Matter and its progeny a perfect slogan: “America is burning. But that’s how forests grow.”

      1. Honestlawyermostly,
The problem is they are very good at burning things down.
They are not very good a building things back up.
How can they? They cannot read, write, do math. They are highly dependent on a bunch of people who can.

        1. UpstateFarmer– I agree. A new post says that this particular school is near the bottom in performance. What do those who gave birth to them expect them to do? Their choices are pretty much limited to crime or McDonalds (or both).

          1. In the rust belt, it is not uncommon to see supposedly privileged older white people working McDonalds drive through windows to make ends meet after they were downsized.

In wealthier areas, drive through workers are often Spanish-speaking immigrants getting a foothold in their new country.

Why anyone think that the anti-Jewish rioters at Hillcrest High School, who have spent their entire lives steeped in the politics of victimhood and resentment, would even consider working at McDonalds?

Their best hope is to find a job at their local DEI commission. And for the more successful, as administrators in a university DEI office.

Just recognize it as vocational education and call it a day.

      2. Honest Lawyer Mostly,

Thank you for the kind words. But not being Joe Biden, it wouldn’t feel right to take credit for someone else’s work.

“America is burning. But that’s how forests grow.” Who said it and when?

        A. Eugene Debs, prominent socialist, political activist, and five time candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States, speaking in support of the widespread violence surrounding the Pullman strike in 1894.

        B. Malcom X, minister, civil rights activist, prominent Black nationalist leader, and spokesman for the Nation of Islam, speaking in support of the 1965 Watts riots.

        B. Nancy Pelosi, prominent politician, member of the House of Representatives, and former Speaker of the House, speaking in support of widespread civil unrest following the election of Donald Trump in 2016.

        C. Maura Healey, former Attorney General and current governor of the State of Massachusetts, speaking in support of the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020.

  8. We may remember the posting of several days ago (11/22/23) about two professors from Arizona State University who wrote an article saying that a diversity of viewpoints on college campuses was not logically desirable, arguing that some viewpoints, like eugenics, are so clearly wrong that they can actually harm the mission of the university to seek truth. [See “Professors: Free Speech and Intellectual Diversity are Not Essential to Higher Education”]
That was a highly idealized view of how American colleges operate. The reality is closer to the Queens incident: mass opinion of faculty or students decides what wrong opinions threaten the “truth seeking mission” of schools. Indeed, there was an illustrative indident at ASU itself earlier this year when Dennis Prager and Charlie Kirk were invited to speak at the Barrett Honors College. The reaction is described in an article in the WSJ the event organizer, who later was fired – – –

“At the names of Messrs. Prager and Kirk, the faculty of ASU’s honors college were outraged. Thirty-nine of its 47 faculty signed a letter to the dean condemning the event on grounds that the speakers are “purveyors of hate who have publicly attacked women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, [and] institutions of our democracy.” The signers decried ASU “platforming and legitimating” their views, describing Messrs. Prager and Kirk as “white nationalist provocateurs” whose comments would undermine the value of democratic exchange by marginalizing the school’s most vulnerable students.
The faculty protests extended beyond the letter. Professors spent precious class time denouncing the program. On Twitter they lamented the university’s willingness to allow donor input on campus events. Mr. Prager received a death threat, forcing municipal and campus police to enact extensive security measures.”

  9. “Ah but,” the Leftists will claim, “it was mostly peaceful.”
The lie of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” is very, very clear.

    1. @EV

They will. These kids have lost their minds (actually, they never built their minds, they are sponges, beyond an age they should be); meanwhile, the people behind the scenes (the modern left) have completely made Swiss cheese of their hearts and souls. It is not a cross-section any more. Our media are straight up sociopaths. This is not difficult to see if one’s brain hasn’t rotted from social media, TDS, MSM, or similar.

Biden saying the other day the reason this conflict happened was because he was so close to brokering peace has taken things to another level with them, something I thought was impossible. And KJPs charts? Obama *literally* gave that exact presentation but for its subject during his last state of the union. There is no question the POTUS is a committee, and Joe ain’t in charge of it.

Compassion and basic human decency are not supposed to be foreign, highly radical concepts. The kids have no idea how mediocre and milquetoast they actually are. Blind allegiance to hatred will do that. The entire modern leftist movement is screaming from the high chair and capitalizing on it.

  10. Klaus Schwab and the WEF should buy one-way airline tickets for these privileged little social justice warriors to go fight for Hamas in Gaza. Let’s see how long they last……

  11. Suspension? Not a consequence of proportion. Without sufficient level of consequence, these students are being enabled. The thing that is missing in raising and educating these children is an understanding that “what you allow, you teach.”

    1. @mccartyae

Particularly given that in most modern schools (though I don’t know about this one, could be different), suspension is carried out at school to spare feelings and avoid lawsuits (and enough idiot entitled parents do file them to warrant it). 🤷🏽‍♂️ It’s basically an easier form of detention. It does not impact GPA or graduation.

      1. “suspension is carried out at school to spare feelings and avoid lawsuits”

I don’t think that’s why. For too many kids an out of school suspension is no punishment–it’s a free day. If they are in school, they have to make up work they are also likely not bothering to do. It stinks that an in school suspension is punishment, but if parents ignore and excuse the rotten behavior what is the school’s recourse to actually try to discipline students? Geez, if parents won’t discipline their progeny, we who can?

  12. Violence is the immediate answer provided by leftists and Democrats of today to any differences of opinion. Amazingly so many support those who rape and pillage while taking hostages and killing the young.

Democrat is rapidly becoming synonymous with inhumanity.

    1. New J6 video of a person all in black, with a black face mask and ear peices, breaking capital windows and forcing – litterlly pushing other protestors over their recorded objections into the building.

This person is NOT on the FBI’s list, has not been identified, arrested questioned.

Maybe this is a government agent ? Unlikely.
Maybe this is a proud boy ? Unlikely.
Maybe this is someone in Antifa – highly likely.

Regardless, this is someone who should be identified, found and prosecuted.

The FBI has the geofencing data for every phone at the capitol on J6. They can identify what phone was where a person was. and therefore who that person was.

There have been several antifa inflitrators identified.
      These people were inciting riot.

Whether FBI, MPD, Anitfa, PB, or whatever those doing actual violence, or those inciting violence should be identified found and prosecuted.

Let the chips fall where they lay.

      Lets find the truth.

  13. Dear Prof Turley,

Anybody who stands with ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu and the IDF in Gaza right now is both senseless and heartless. The majority of the 2.3 million people there are women and children. Babies and toddlers.

Joe Biden stands with Bibi. In Gaza. Nearest thing to Hell on earth (outside of Zelenskiy’s Ukraine). .. and I’m much more concerned about that, than these young kids rejection of it.

New York Mayor Eric Adams, speaking on behalf of Israel, posted a statement on Saturday, on X, condemning the disturbance; “The vile show of antisemitism at Hillcrest High School was motivated by ignorance-fueled hatred, plain and simple, and it will not be tolerated in any of our schools, let alone anywhere else in our city,” he said.

Obviously, concern for the desperate people trapped in Gaza is not the same thing as ‘antisemitism’.

*>”Yet, the violence and hatred shown in this protest shows why so many feel unsafe in our schools. We have come to the point where teachers are locking themselves in their offices for protection. These students did not just spontaneously learn this behavior. They have been told for years that they do not have to tolerate opposing views. We are now seeing that intolerance graduate into violence.”

    1. You display pure ignorance. You are asking for Israel and Jews to commit suicide. Israel faced major wars, infatadas, and almost daily bombings from Gaza. The people who do not wish hostilities and do not participate in warfare who live in Gaza pay the price to Hamas daily. They are raped and murdered by Hamas, who takes the money meant for them. Gaza has been autonomous since 2005 after Israel forcefully removed all Israeli settlers. The Gazans put Hamas in control.

Iran has been funding Hamas’ terrorism, as have the US and Europe, though indirectly. The terrorism will not stop until Israel destroys Hamas. Israel at the risk of its soldiers, tries to save lives because the cowards of Hamas surround themselves with women and children. Based on your comment, that sounds like something you support.

However, I will provide you with a way of redeeming yourself. Tell us what Israel needs to do to protect its citizens.

    2. The majority of the people at peal harbor were women and children. Babies and toddlers.

The majority of the people at afghanistan and Iraq were women and children. Babies and toddlers.

The majority of the people in Nazi germany were women and children. Babies and toddlers.

When you start a war, a significant portion of the victims in your own country are women and children.

We all want to see the lease civillian casualties. Historicially and now the Israelis are far better at that than the US is .

The majority of ukrainian causulaities in Ukraine have been women and children.

The US killed between 200,000 and 2M civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do many of us have sympathy for civilians in Gaza – absolutely – we hope that the IDF does the least possible harm to civilians while destroying Hamas, but the latter objective is absolute.

Further the scale of civilian casulaties is the direct result of Hamas using civilians as human shields.
Hamas’s largest military center, and weapons cache was secreted below Gaza’s largest hospital

That is a violation of the international rules of war.

That is specifically because it causes additional civilian deaths.

If Hamas cared the slightest about their own people – the casualties would be lower.
      They would be zero.

They would not be launching rockets at Israel killing civilians constantly. They would not be murdering raping, beheading burning babies.
And they would not be calling home to their mothers beaming with pride over killing jews.
Even the Nazis’ did not bragg to their families about the holocaust.

Gaza and the West Bank are shitty places to live. But they are among the ptentially best places in Israel. Gaza was once a mediterainian resort. The west bank is along a substantial portion of the Jordan.

There is no reason that the Palestinians could not be as successful as the Israelis have been.

There is no reason that Gaza could not be a world vacation resort.
There is no reason that the West Bank could not produce more food than the entire rest of israel.
There is no reason that the Palestinians can not have the same productive capability as the Israeli’s in all fields.

      1. “The majority of the people at peal harbor were women and children. Babies and toddlers.”

WTF??? There were 68 civilian deaths at Pearl harbor, out of 2403.

    3. “. . . concern for the desperate people trapped in Gaza . . .”

Maybe they should have thought of that *before* they voted for, and supported, a dictatorial, genocidal government (Hamas).

Your reference to “women and children” is a pathetic appeal to pity. And a disgusting attempt to evade the murder of 1,200 Israelis.

    4. “Obviously, concern for the desperate people trapped in Gaza is not the same thing as ‘antisemitism’.”

For some, it is not the same as anti-Semitism, but for many, it is as if they wish to kill the Jews. That is an existential threat to the state of Israel and the Jewish people, something you haven’t addressed. Why?

You also didn’t address a good number of the comments made which conflict with your own, Why?

There are too many ‘why’s’ and not enough answers. That is true with a number of your other responses. That can lead to only one conclusion.

  14. If physically threatening a teacher does not warrant suspension from school, it is hard to imagine what does. In his statement, Mayor Adams said, “… Project Pivot teams will begin outreach with students at Hillcrest this week ‘to ensure they understand why this behavior was unacceptable.'” If the students do not understand why threatening a teacher is unacceptable, they already are lost. I suspect that if the students were identified and then suspended, the parents might– just might– start acting like parents since they would have to deal with the nonsense they have raised instead of dropping them off at the New York taxpayer funded government day care center that provides free breakfast, lunch and after school meals.

    1. Suspended? IS THAT ALL? How about charged, convicted, imprisoned, and expelled? Oh, never mind. That only applies to people with non-leftist views. If it was pro-Israel rioters, the FBI would be investigating them as domestic terrorists.

The republic can’t go on this way.

  15. Well it was in New York. The most Tory city in the colonies and it has upheld its tradition to this day. Sort of appropriate that it occurred in the upper northeast of the country where they have been spreading this filth for decades and now they get to experience the fruits of their labors. That city is dead. Let it die. There are better cities with nicer climates waiting to take their financial institutions and those that that are wise enough to leave. The rest can stay there and fester. If I were to build a wall, I would build it around New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, D.C., St Louis and a few others. Anyone wishing to leave would need extensive background checks. Kurt Russell made a great film in 1981 “Escape from New York”. Seems very up to date now. Where is Snake Plissken when you need him?

  16. This could have been nipped in the bud, but nobody cared. Many still don’t. Still others don’t believe/won’t accept just how bad things are. My wife and I talked years ago about the inevitable outcome based on what we were seeing in fairly young kids: lacking critical faculties, the inability to cope with reality eventually leads to turning anger inward and self-harm, or turning it outward and harming others. Their rage is not based on anything tangible. Their fragility has never been rooted in anything tangible other than severe neglect. We are witnessing mental illness in the truest sense of the term, and it is so widespread generationally I honestly do not know how we rein it in. I pray that it will be contained within a lost cohort and we don’t lose the world in the process. These kids will never be ‘ok’.

    1. “it is so widespread generationally I honestly do not know how we rein it in.”

Require them to work as farm hands, mucking out barns. Or scooping deer carcasses off roadsides. Or laying asphalt all day in the middle of July.

Make them work hard labor to pay for their damages.

    2. To a very large extent responsibility rests with the parents.

Children do not learn responsibility unless they are held accountable as children.

The job of a parent is to simultaneously protect their children from the real world consequences of their actions and expose them to enough of those natural consequences to learn.

Parents have allowed their children to grow up without a sense of responsibility and with a sense of entitlement.

They have failed, and they have failed to reign in an education system that has failed.

Learning responsibility as an adult is far more painful than as a child.

The younger generation has a rude awakening coming.

      1. “they have failed to reign in an education system that has failed.”

Schools are as good as the parents and communities that pay attention to them and the children who attend.

  17. Just another incident that proves the pernicious evil gripping our media/education industries. Until this infestation of malcontent America-hating ideologues are removed/made impotent, things will continue to decline as a nation and society. We are quickly running out of time with each generation that has had their minds poisoned by these operatives. Are thete enough decent people remaining to end this tyranny of destruction?
