Robert Hur Emerges as the Clear Winner in the Presidential Debate

The presidential debate last night was chilling to watch as President Joe Biden clearly struggled to retain his focus and, at points, seemed hopelessly confused. The winner was clear: Special Counsel Robert Hur. For months, Democrats in Congress and the media have attacked Hur for his report that the president came across as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” Hur concluded that prosecuting Biden would be difficult because a jury would view him as a sympathetic figure of a man with declining mental capabilities. That was evident last night and the question is whether a man who was too diminished to be a criminal defendant can still be a president for four more years.

Hur laid out evidence that President Biden had unlawfully retained and mishandled classified evidence for decades. However, he also concluded that “at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” He found that “it would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him—by then a former president well into his eighties—of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

What has followed is the usual pile-on in the media with legal analysts, press, and pundits denouncing Hur for his findings.

Hur likely does not anticipate any apologies even as commentators on CNN and MSNBC admit that there are now unavoidable questions of Biden’s ability to be the nominee.

Democrats have repeatedly insisted that Hur did not find Biden diminished and that he actually was impressed by his memory and mental acuity. Hur contradicted that in his own testimony before Congress.

Indeed, the denial campaign took on a bizarre character, particularly when Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.) insisted that Hur “exonerated” Biden. Hur pushed back:“I need to go back and make sure that I take note of a word that you used, ‘exoneration.’ That is not a word that is used in my report and that is not a part of my task as a prosecutor.”

Jayapal shot back, “You exonerated him.”

Hur responded, “I did not exonerate him. That word does not appear in the report.”

The debate also further undermines the ridiculous effort of the Biden Administration to continue to withhold the audiotape of the Hur interview as privileged (despite saying that the transcript is not privileged).

The debate showed not only what Hur saw but why the Justice Department is making a clearly laughable privilege claim to delay any release of the audiotape until after the election.

  4. The demoncrats are now screaming they need a replacement but one of their operatives pointed out a big problem.
    They can’t just throw someone on the ballot in all 50 states. Some of those states have rules in place that make getting someone else on the ballot a real problem.
    I have no doubt the demoncrats, if they do replace biden, will break any law on the books and cook their new loser onto every ballot by force, perhaps burning down government buildings in some states with zero charges leveled and no legal consequences.
    So it’s a great point but due to demoncrat criminality entirely out of control with no one stopping them, utterly moot.

    2. It’s actually VERY easy to replace him on the ballot… as long as he voluntarily steps aside. We haven’t even had the conventions yet. He’s not the official nominee until then. He does have enough delegates that they cannot forcibly replace him (unless they change the rules). But if he drops out of the race before the convention, putting another name on the ballots is not a problem.

  5. Turley really ought to be ashamed for this post. There’s only all the difference in the world between substance and delivery. Joe Biden had a delivery problem. He has suffered from a stuttering problem all of this life, and has not tried to hide it. He was under a lot of pressure to deliver last night, and while he did make a few mistakes, he is over 80 and was suffering form a cold. He recently got back from the G-7, and flew back and forth from Europe 3 times in the space of a week. He has been working tirelessly on getting a resolution of the Israel-Hamas war and getting an aid package passed for Ukraine that Republicans sat on too long. HOWEVER, the SUBSTANCE of what he said was spot-on and correct. He corrected many of Trump’s lies–but there were so many of them–how could anyone keep up?

    Turley knows Trump is a liar, and that he boldly repeated his numerous lies last night. That’s what a sociopath can do–bold-face lie on cue without the slightest hesitation. The SUBSTANCE of most of what Trump said were lies. The rapid-fire lying is more than anyone could keep up with. Trump is an accomplished and polished liar–burnishing the delivery of his lies on MAGA media and at rallies while Biden is busy passing legislation, helping resolve world problems and carrying out his agenda to benefit the middle class. Biden has been way more successful than Trump ever was in passing legislation, getting COVID under control, getting America back to work, back to school and getting jobs returned to America, domesticating computer chip production, bringing the cost of prescription drugs under control, growing our economy, getting unemployment under control and passing an historic infrastructure act. Biden had a problem with delivering his message. Trump claims that America is disasterous–nothing could be further from the truth–Biden brought us back from the worst recession since the Great Depression. Inflation, caused by Trump’s incompetent handling of COVID and his tariffs, is being brought under control Economists warn that if Trump gets back into office, economic disaster would result.

But, he made clear that the agenda that most Americans approve of was his priority. Trump dodged answering questions about assisting in controlling the cost of child care, about whether he would accept the results of the upcoming election and made up grandiose stories about other world leaders disrespecting America due to Biden, who corrected him repeatedly–America and its economy are the envy of the world. Trump delivered a gradiose brag about Biden being the cause of Putin invading Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war, migrants killing Americans, migrants taking away jobs from black people…the list of made up lies is very long, but it’s all lies–and Turley knows this. It’s all part of the Trump “big strong he-man everyone fears” BS trope that Turley also know is nothing but the product of Trump’s malignant narcissism. No US administration in history had done so much damage in such a short time on so many levels as this one, and that’s no mean feat.     All economic indicators were trending UP when Biden took office.
    Note: In 2022, a year after Biden took office, there were also 2 consecutive quarters of NEGATIVE GDP Growth.

      All those jobs Biden claim he created, false. Those jobs had already been there, but were forced to close to the COVID lockdowns. The economic recovery Biden claims, was actually lead by Red States re-opening their economies. Deep Blue states like CA and NY were dead last in their economic recoveries as they tried to continue the lockdowns.

      It also needs to be noted that, as I have mention more than a few times on the good professor’s blog, inflation is cumulative. So, the current inflation of 3.8% is on TOP of all the other Bidenomics induced inflation.

      The Biden open border crisis has also impacted wages. Under Trump with his Remain in Mexico, wages for the lower economic class went up. When Biden threw open the border, all those illegals would work for less and wages dropped. The Free Press had an article on it. One man who has a green card, the illegals are impacting his income.

Should we be amused when feckless posters who are cowardly Anonymous Soviet Democrats attempt to pretend they’re actually concerned with lying – while they’ve pimped for both Bolshevik Barack and Bribery Biden who have both served as Liars In Chief in the White House? Both lying their Soviet Democrat asses off during the EIGHT years they were in the White House before Trump ever ran for office?

      When they got those briefings from Brennan that SecState Clinton was using illegal and unsecured private emails and devices and never government supplied email and devices to communicate with them – and it was all being intercepted – how many times did they lie they weren’t aware that Clinton was doing that.

      Oh yes, poor ol’ Daddy-Daughter Inappropriate Showers Joe, who assured everybody none of his generals warned him he should leave a security force in Afghanistan. Not evacuate from Kabul rather than Bagram. That the Americans killed in Afghanistan during the Obama/Biden reelection campaign wasn’t from terrorism – just a protest against an offensive YouTube video that went wrong.

  19. Leaving aside the dementia that Jill allowed the ENTIRE world to see last night, putting her selfish desires above the needs of our country, let’s contrast Biden from 4 years ago, in terms of politics.

    Four years ago, Joe Biden claimed that he was the end all/be all/fix all remedy for everything gone wrong in this country. He had the answer for EVERYTHING.

    Last night, he spent 46% of his time explaining how none of this shit show is his fault. Blaming anything and everything but himself.

    Where does the buck stop in Joe’s feeble mind?

    I guess it’s what we should expect from someone who needs PERMISSION to call on a reporter or take questions.

Believing, as I do, that most non-leadership Democrats are trapped in a world of cognitive dissonance, I am trying to imagine the lies that they will tell themselves, to continue supporting Joe Biden, and the lies they will tell themselves to continue to believe the Democrat/Media Complex that has been hiding Biden’s obvious senile dementia.

    “Trump is a liar, and a bad person! Therefore, I must support Joe Biden!” (This lie will allow them to pretend that by ignoring Biden’s incapacity, they are doing a good and noble thing.)

    “The Media and the Democrat Establishment did not know Biden was this pathetic!” (This lie will allow them to continue to watch Joe Scarborough, for example, and to listen to Kamala Harris.)

    “Biden was just having a bad night, and we all have bad nights!” (Just out and out denial, always a good move for the cognitively impaired.)

    “If Biden was really bad off, the Democrat Establishment would invoke the 25th Amendment! (This lie permits them to pass the responsibility for thinking and making intelligent decisions off to a third party.)

    I am sure others will have additional theories, but the point is, understanding how cognitive dissonance works, indicates that rather than face Reality, the street Democrats will work over-time to double-down on their beliefs, particularly if there are others who will share the lie with them.

    The only thing that could disrupt this process, is if the Media really starts to do a number on Joe Biden, thus chopping the legs out of the social support that the afflicted Democrat needs to continue to be afflicted.

      Well said.
      They lie. They believe their own lies. We see through their lies and they cannot understand why we can and do. So they just keep repeating the same lies over and over again. We see it here on the good professor’s blog, nearly daily.
      Now, will the sane, normal Democrats start to speak up and point out what we have all been saying since 2020.
