Back with a Vengeance: Nina Jankowicz Calls on Europeans to Oppose the United States

Nina Jankowicz, the former head of Biden’s infamous Disinformation Governance Board, was “back with a vengeance.” After the outcry over the board led to its elimination, Jankowicz did what many of the displaced disinformation experts have done: she peddled her dubious skills to Europeans and others like a wandering rōnin without a master. Now, Jankowicz has appeared before one of the most anti-free speech bodies in the world — the European Union — to call upon those 27 countries to fight against the United States, which she called a world threat.

Before the European Union, Jankowicz lashed out at the United States and portrayed those of us who have opposed censorship as stooges of Russia:

“I would like to call upon you to stand firm against another autocracy, the United States of America. The Trump administration is undoubtedly preparing a pressure campaign to force EU institutions to roll back regulation like the DSA [Digital Services Act], to end support for Ukraine, to stop holding Russia to account. Do not capitulate. Hold the line. Doing so is the clearest signal the European Union could send to Russia and other adversaries that it will not stop fighting to preserve democracy at home and around the world.”

How the “Mary Poppins of disinformation” came to alight upon Europe is a familiar tale. The European Union has become the global hub for censorship efforts and, after she departed from the government, Jankowicz made a beeline for Europe.

I have been a long critic of Jankowicz, who became an instant Internet sensation due to a musical number in which she sang “You can just call me the Mary Poppins of disinformation” in a TikTok parody of the song “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” After the Biden Administration reluctantly disbanded her board, she later moved to join a European group as a foreign agent to continue her work to block views that she considers disinformation.

The false portrayal of the United States as a lawless, autocratic nation no doubt thrilled the Europeans. In announcing her heading a private disinformation group called the American Sunlight Project, Jankowicz used the same hysteria to attract donors, insisting that “Disinformation knows no political party. Its ultimate victim is our democracy.”

Of course, Jankowicz herself has been accused of disinformation that served one particular party. She was previously criticized for allegedly spreading disinformation and advocating censorship.

Before the European Union, Jankowicz lashed out at the free speech community for opposing the DSA and censorship:

“Anti-democratic regimes in Russia, China, Iran, and elsewhere are taking advantage of this environment, launching interference campaigns that aim to undermine the democratic process with little pushback. And homegrown anti-democratic forces have launched a coordinated campaign to undermine researchers, journalists, advocates, and civil servants who work to expose their lies. The confluence of these forces has hobbled some democracies’ responses to the strategic threat that we are here to discuss today, Russian hybrid threats.”

The ultimate irony is that Jankowicz knows that she can count on many of us in the free speech community to support her right to spread such sensational and inflammatory information. She has every right to trash this country and the results of the election.

Jankowicz has clearly found a home with globalists in Europe where our “Mary Poppins of Disinformation” is “practically perfect in every way

  1. “….The ultimate irony is that Jankowicz knows that she can count on many of us in the free speech community to support her right ….”

It’s this very attitude that’s going to let the Marxists win. We have to stop pussyfooting around. Pack the Supreme Court.

  2. Portraying herself as a martyr appears to be working. Enemies of domestic constitutional law usually do.

  3. O’Keefe caught this Pentagon hot shot boasting of his resistance to Hegseth and Trump. I imagine his career and pension are over.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/04/breaking-department-defense-branch-chief-calls-president-trump

If instead of O’Keefe what if this incident had been recorded by a spy for a hostile foreign power? Could he be blackmailed?

There have been a number of these videos posted by O’Keefe but I can’t help but wonder how many there are recorded by spies. Washington must be crawling with them and getting these people to open up to strangers is apparently much easier than I thought.

Loose lips sink ships, and careers…..and countries.

    1. I am just scrolling on by when I see a Pictor them or read about their unhinged hatred for the President of the United States.

I would rather hear someone squeezing styrofoam or scratching their nails across a chalkboard.

    2. Good lawyers are hard to find. Abrego garcia was an FBI informant recruited by mayorkas probably. Trump released the file to mz xinis. Perhaps she’ll tell everyone.

    1. The American Founders required voters to be male, European, and 21 with 50 lbs. Sterling.

50 lbs. Sterling in 1789 is worth about $13K today.

Americans with $13K+ might amount to something approaching 11.6%.

11.6% was the turnout in the 1789 election.

The American Founders established a restricted-vote republic, not a one-man, one-vote “democracy,” which is effectively the communist “dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e., hired help).”

      1. Well, only about 11% could read and write. Every nation on earth with a gov had kings and queens. I guess it was a revolutionary idea not to.

It’s just a management system with agreed upon laws. The economic system is more powerful than a political system. The US has been through many.

What exactly do you want? I think the workday should be 6 hours. Division of 24 hours give 4 blocks. At 8 hrs there’s 3 blocks. If it went to 6 job availability increases. Move from an hourly wage to a 6 hour salary. That’d be 30 hours per week at a 40 hour salary. Juggle days. 3 ten hour blocks work 3 days per week. Why? To enjoy life…if you’re an owner you work 60 hours per week anyway.

        What is it you want?

        1. Again, for those of you in Rio Linda:

“The American Founders established a restricted-vote republic, not a one-man, one-vote ‘democracy,’ which is effectively the communist ‘dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e., hired help).’”

If it’da been a snake, it woulda bit ya.

          1. Maybe it’s a vast conspiracy using education. Keep the voters illiterate and we, the Bureaucracy, can do anything while the kleptocracy carries on.

If it’d been a dog it’d bit ya.

        2. ATS

While Technically many people are paid hourly or salaried, the reality is that people are paid for what they produce.

If you can produce as much value for our employer or clients in 30 hours as others do in 40 – you should be paid what those working 40 do.

If you wish to work less hours without producing more – expect that your standard of living will drop – because it must.

  4. The role of the media – and it’s vital – is simply to report the news as factually as it can. It’s up to the citizenry to judge and decide. With the decision – so often discussed in Prof. Turley’s articles – by the media to abandon objective reporting in the service of a political goal (mostly against Trump) the media have indentured themselves to a role seen so many times in countries ruled by totalitarian and authoritarian governments, and THAT betrayal of its actual role is the genuine threat to democracy that the non-objective media types now constitute.

    1. Do you feel like one of the unluckiest people now? There’s an entire world of them.

      Sadly

  5. ABOLITION OF PRIVATE PROPERTY?

    NAY, ABOLITION OF COMMUNISM!

The singular American failure is the judicial branch, with emphasis on the Supreme Court.

The American welfare state is pure communism, effecting redistribution of wealth per the slogan of Karl Marx, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” central planning (compulsory solar panels and EVs, etc.), control of the means of production (i.e., unconstitutional regulation), and social engineering, including affirmative action, forced busing, “non-discrimination” laws, “fair housing” laws, rent control, minimum wages, etc., which nullify private property rights. One of the quintessential rights of Americans is private property. The right to private property in the Constitution is absolute, or the right to private property does not exist. It doesn’t. The state exercises dominion over private property, all the dominion it wants.

America was established by the Founders as a restricted-vote republic with essential voter qualifications set by state legislatures.

One man, one vote “Democracy” is the very communist “dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e., hired help)” prescribed by Karl Marx.

America was designed and intended to be a “dictatorship” of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Americans were intended to enjoy maximal freedom along with severely limited and restricted infinitesimal government.

    Something went terribly wrong.

Freedom was intended to reign not communists.

Hegseth approved thousands of dollars in spending for a room where he can apply makeup before television appearances, CBS News reported. The room was formerly used for briefings and is located next to the Pentagon press briefing room, the report said.

      1. He needs it to cover up the Nazi tattoos, and the unmistakable physical signs of a hangover

        1. VP Vance will also use the makeup room to ensure his eyeliner is good to go. DOGE has approved this cost saving use of office space.

    1. The DoD has denied the CBS report and even called it fake news. CBS has had to walk back their report after being busted.

      1. Really??
Listening to the voices in your head again ???
The Pentagon confirms the story as follows:

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has altered a space behind the Pentagon briefing room to use as a makeup studio before media appearances, defense officials confirmed.

The renovations consist of a director’s chair, mirrors and a countertop, either gathered from storage or made by in-house Pentagon employees to avoid extra costs, the official said. Tami Radabaugh, a public affairs aide and Hegseth’s longtime producer, first directed the changes in the opening weeks of the secretary’s time in office.

Hegseth does his own makeup, according to the defense official.

“For this upgrade we were deliberately conservative and opted for several less expensive, on-hand materiel solutions that provide the secretary and other VIPs the needed support and space for on-camera press engagements,” a Pentagon spokesperson said in a written statement.

        https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2025/04/23/hegseth-changes-pentagon-green-room-into-impromptu-makeup-studio/

        1. What’s really interesting is that Hegseth claims it is fake news from the leftist media, even after the Pentagon confirmed the story in a written statement.

Hegseth does his own makeup, according to the defense official.

  8. Article 3, Section 3

    – White House tells Americans to reply ‘STOP’ if they no longer wish to receive Hegseth’s texts about upcoming military strikes
    – China retaliates against US tariffs by stopping payments to Congress
    – False alarm: smoke coming form Vatican is just Cardinal Steve burning toast again
    – Husband solemnly informs wife they must do their part to help nation’s falling birth rate

  11. Faculty at Barnard College have received messages on their private phones from Trump’s EEOC asking if they are Jewish.

Is it reassuring when your government wants to know if you are Jewish ???

    1. No biggie !!

They are just compiling a list of people so they can send them a yellow Star of David to wear while in public.

    2. That’s weird for sure, but trying to imply some kind of oppression is even weirder. Trump is on record as perhaps the most pro-Israel, most protective of Jewish civil liberties president in history, particularly cracking down on the notorious antisemitism on elite college campuses. It is the Hamas-promoting Left that is oppressing Jews on campus, and Trump is taking heat for trying to stop it.

  12. “ The false portrayal of the United States as a lawless, autocratic nation no doubt thrilled the Europeans.”

Are you sure about that professor Turley? Because Trump is making it very easy for her to be correct. Europeans are avoiding travel to the U.S. thanks to Trump.

It IS becoming lawless. The Trump administration is deliberately ignoring court orders and defying judges. It is becoming increasingly autocratic by Trump’s rule by EO’s and with the help of an unelected Billionaire who just left his position at DOGE because Tesla is tanking and he failed spectacularly when he tried to buy off Wisconsin voters.

With Trump now caving in to the Chinese and claiming to be “descalating” the situation after loudly claiming that there would be no negotiations, no lowering of tariffs, and claiming without evidence that 70 nations have made deals with the U.S. Surely, Turley can’t be that naive or stupid. Can he?

The Trump administration has been engaging in so much disinformation and BS that it’s hard not to miss it.

Anti-free speech? Europe? It seems it’s good ol’ USA that is engaging in anti-free speech. Trump kicking out the AP because it refuses to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America because they are “supposed to call it that now” who says everyone is required to call it that? Forced speech?

Trump is arresting foreign students because they exercised their free speech rights, you know that precious viewpoint discrimination Turley LOVES to cite the left of violating. I guess it only applies if it’s conservatives who are the victims.

Trump is wholly at fault for the sentiment against the US. He burned bridges with Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Has anyone noticed that Trump suddenly shut up about Canada becoming the 51st state? Same with Greenland. Could it be that he realized way too late that these stupid adventures cost the US valuable credibily and trust? Yeah.

Now China has all the leverage. Trump the moron and his cadre of idiot econimic advisors made it much, much easier for China’s economy to expand beyond reliance on the US. Trump has just capitulated to China and is toning down his idiotic threats. China hit hard when it stopped exports of rare earth metals to the US. Canada is poised to sell oil to China and other countries and investors are seeking a stable economy to park their money. Guess which one ? CHINA.

Trump the “master negotiator” turns out to be a complete moron. Markets are still spiraling down and investment in the stockmarket is suffering because it this idiot’s dumb ideas. If Harris won the election she would have left things alone. We would still be having a stable economy. By the way. Boeing is just got hit by China stopping deliveries of planes worth billions. Now Airbus and COMAC can have an edge in the world’s bigges aviation market in the next 20 years. Way to go Trump the moron.

    1. I was going to reply to the points in your post but once I stripped away the emotion and the obvious Trump Derangement Syndrome, there wasn’t any intellectual argument or notable points to rebut! You should also learn to spell, but it’s hard you to see that through all the emotion. I’m more than mildly amused that you wouldn’t have minded another term or two of the toxic and destructive Obamabiden oligarchy which was and is dedicated to the destruction of the United States by looting the treasury and making us a client state of China.

      1. Using “emotion” seems to be your excuse of having no rebuttal at all.

You didn’t say anything I posted is wrong. Trump did cave to the Chinese. Trump DID burn bridges with our allies. Now he’s shut up completely about Canada and Greenland.

China’s economy was being contained before Trump initiated the tariffs. China is now the stable economy vs the US.

Trump has arrested foreign students because they wrote an op-ed or negotiated on behalf of protesters. Both 1st amendment protected activities. And now he’s deliberately ignoring Supreme court orders. Seems pretty bad for the US compared to Europe.

        1. @George

There is nothing to rebut, since you are a lying fool, only here to create discord. I really do not know why your employers waste their money anymore. Quite literally, nobody cares, George. You are typing into the great emptiness. Maybe your own ego is gratified in that act, but nobody else even notices. You are flea someone picked up the one time they lay down with a dog, and have completely forgotten about in the time since. The rest of us are the antidote.

          1. James, what were the lies? You cannot rebut what I posted so you resort to making excuses and ad hominen attacks.

Trump just caved to China. He’s sounding less defiant after learning that the stock market and China’s cutting off of rare earth metals poses a significant risk to our economy. Trump is a moron. He’s aready shown the world he’s a horrible negotiator. What deals did we get from those 70 countries? Do you know?

            1. James, what were the lies?

That your name is George. It is Svelaz, and Wally and Gigi and Bottom Boy

              1. I have no idea who Svelaz is. I have stated many times that I have no idea who that is and why it seems that this Svelaz individual ruffled some feathers here.

What lies did I state on my post?

                  1. John Say, Thats one of the shortest posts I seen from you. Even you don’t have an effective rebuttal.

                1. “What lies did I state on my post?”
                  All of it.
Every single statement is either completely false or so subjective as to be meaningless.

                  1. John Say,

“ What lies did I state on my post?”
                    All of it.
Every single statement is either completely false or so subjective as to be meaningless.”

Still not proof that what I said was a lie. Just saying so doesn’t make it so. Your lack of substantive rebuttal is telling. You would post a long-running response if you had one. What lies did I state in my post John? Perhaps you could point it out.

            2. @George

Uh-huh. You are a ridiculous person. You can’t offend me because I don’t care enough to be offended by you. Go blow.

              1. James, you said I posted lies, but you cannot produce evidence that they are. All you have is ad hominem attacks and deflection.

                1. I produced evidence.

You constantly demand evidence, then when it is provided, you ignore it.

            3. Here is some reporting on China by a chinese source.
Parts of this are unverifiable – as much about china.
But other parts are confirmed by many other sources/

              https://youtu.be/WP3hpt8YAS0

Try getting information sourced by those not suffering from TDS.

              1. John Say, Business Basics? That’s your source? Business Basics is a propaganda channel. There’s a reason why many parts are unreliable. If even YOU are skeptical about its authenticity then its not reliable.

        2. Trump arrested Hamas collaborators, pushing their antisemitic & Hamas terrorist ideology by taking over university campuses, and buildings, destroying university property, at one point holding janitorial staff in a locked room for hours, violence, spitting on, shoving and harassing and blocking access to Jewish students so they couldn’t get to their classes, dorms, and otherwise preventing them from moving freely around a university they also pay tuition to attend. At the time Mahmoud Khalil was organizing these anti semitic, anti Jewish, pro-Hamas, Pro-terrorist organizations, (many of those “protesting” any interaction between the school and Jewish entities, also were not students there) to take over these campuses, he was no longer a student at Columbia University. Therefore, to add to all the other criminal anti-American activities, he/they was trespassing.

He violated the terms of his student visa by coordinating violent events in support of Hamas. A “protest” ceases to be protected by the 1A as free speech once that “protest” becomes violent. Which they all became violent, aggressively enforcing Hamas terrorist ideology, even going to the extent of shouting “I am Hamas!” 1A specifically states it protects PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY as free speech. So this is not about free speech.

          1. The specific people arrested like Khalil and Ozturk never claimed to support Hamas and the government has never provided any proof that they ever did. An accusation is not evidence.

            1. There is video of Khalil supporting Hamas – specifically Hamas.
There is evidence that there are financial ties between the organization he founded and Hamas.

              1. John Say,

“ There is video of Khalil supporting Hamas – specifically Hamas.
There is evidence that there are financial ties between the organization he founded and Hamas.”

And yet, you fail to provide it. Even the government has not provided any evidence of the claims. Allegations are not evidence.

            2. Every bit of evidence that you do not like can not be discounted by calling it an accusation.

Columbia produced a report detailing Khali’s “negotiating”.
The video fo Khalil supporting Hamas is available on Youtube.

it is YOUR claims that have no supporting evidence.

              1. John Say,

“ Columbia produced a report detailing Khali’s “negotiating”.
The video fo Khalil supporting Hamas is available on Youtube.“

So, where is it? Why don’t you post it? Post a link to the YouTube video you think proves it.

Even the government has not produced any evidence. An accusation is not evidence. Come on John you’re better than that.

        3. George – in what world do you live ?

You claim Trump caved to China when today MORE tariffs against China were announced and Trump announced that China has agreed to negotiate. You have presumed that a deal that has not even been made is more favorable to china than the US.

China’s economy has been in trouble for a long time. That is not news. Taiffs with certainty hurt China more than the US.

With respect to our allies – there are no bridges burned – they to are coming to the table – not because they like Trump,
But because The US holds all the cards. That is true regardless of who the president is.
Trump is merely chosing to play those cards. Some of our allies may not like it – but they have little choice.
They also have little to complain about – they are having done to them what they have been doing to the US for decades.

I find it really odd that the left suddenly thinks Tariffs will destroy the US economy – did they destroy the economies of the EU or China or India or … ? Or does it only cause recessions when the US imposes tariffs ?

I have no idea what you mean by “contained” – but Trump has accelerated the end of REAL fascism in china.

When your “negotiation” is “Do as we demand, or we will commit crimes” – that is called extortion and it is a crime.
No extortion is NOT protected speech.

And no everyone in the worlds speech is NOT protected under the first amendment.

The US rightly REJECTS people who advocate for terrorism in applications for VISA’s and residency. It has done so FOREVER.

If you are a US citizen – you have full first amendment protection for your speech.

If you want to travel to the US – You have NO first amendment protection for your speech. Again that is NOT new.

Even on immigration – the EU is not close to comparable to the US. In many parts of the EU, not only can’t immigrants become citizens ever, but their children born in the EU can’t and their children can’t.
The population fo the EU is almost 50% larger than the US. They have in total about as many legal immigrants per year as the US – though that is only in the 21st century. But they only had about 1/5th the illegal immigrants the US had in 2024 , and they are whigging out over both legal and illegal immigration.

          1. “ You claim Trump caved to China when today MORE tariffs against China were announced and Trump announced that China has agreed to negotiate.”

Trump lies, you know that, right? Trump was begging China to negotiate.

“ China’s economy has been in trouble for a long time. That is not news. Taiffs with certainty hurt China more than the US.”

That was true, before the tariffs and Trump Burning bridges with allies. China WAS being contained until Trump the moron instituted the tariffs. China can weather the tariffs more than us. Their exports are only 15% of their GDP. They have the manufacturing infrastructure and technological knowledge to seek other markets besides the US. We don’t. We burned those opportunities when Trump started trashing our allies. That’s a pretty stupid “negotiating” strategy.

“ With respect to our allies – there are no bridges burned – they to are coming to the table – not because they like Trump,
But because The US holds all the cards. That is true regardless of who the president is.”

Are you sure about that? Because our allies have been able to give Trump things we were already going to get anyway. Trump hasn’t improved anything or gained any new deals. Remember Trump lies a lot. What exactly have we gained from these purported deals?

“ I find it really odd that the left suddenly thinks Tariffs will destroy the US economy – did they destroy the economies of the EU or China or India or … ? Or does it only cause recessions when the US imposes tariffs ?”

Suddenly? Its a historical fact that tariffs like those imposed by Trump ARE harmful to the economy. They are an anti-free market disaster. Its affected every economy. All draconian tariffs cause recessions. Hawley-Smoot proved that to be true.

“ I have no idea what you mean by “contained” – but Trump has accelerated the end of REAL fascism in china.”

ROLF! If you don’t know you havent been paying attention. Trump has accelerated China’s capitalism, surpassing ours. That’s not good. Trump squandered any real leverage we had.

“ When your “negotiation” is “Do as we demand, or we will commit crimes” – that is called extortion and it is a crime.
No extortion is NOT protected speech.”

But that’s not what they were doing. Nice strawman tho. Negotiating a peaceful resolution is not a crime. Protesting is not a crime.

“ The US rightly REJECTS people who advocate for terrorism in applications for VISA’s and residency. It has done so FOREVER.”

Correct, partly. There is a difference between exclusionary laws and those that are inclusionary. Once you’re here legally the first amendment applies just as it does to everyone else. Before entering the country it does not.

You non-citizens within the US have First Amendment rights as well as the right to due process and the right to be secure from unlawful searches and seizures. You don’t have to be a citizen to be protected under those rights.

“ If you are a US citizen – you have full first amendment protection for your speech.”

It also applies to non-citizens when they are here legally. The First Amendment is not exclusive to citizens. The Constitution does not make that distinction.

“ In many parts of the EU, not only can’t immigrants become citizens ever, but their children born in the EU can’t and their children can’t.”

Well duh! Because they have their own laws. We have in our Constitution birthright citizenship. They don’t. So what?

            1. What’s so funny about George is that he tries so hard to come off as speaking with authority, but he really lifts all his info from left-wing media sites and we all laugh at him. He and gigi are two sides of the same coin, and I would not be surprised if in fact it is one coin.

    2. George, you need to provide a tl;dr for the rest of us. Nobody is going to read such a long rant.

        1. Given that most every sentence you write contains numerous errors, lies, inaccuracies and mistatements, it often takes a lot of words to address each and every one.

    3. Wow, that level of TDS is impressive, and of course sad. “China has all the leverage”? China is on the brink of economic and political collapse. “Kicking out the AP” — the AP can and has continued to report, vociferously, on the Trump administration, which it can do perfectly well from outside the briefing room. And when will you leftist fools give up the “unelected billionaire” non-sequitur: a president can appoint anyone he likes to a non-cabinet position. Try reading rather than emoting — you might enjoy it, even if by accident.

      1. “ China is on the brink of economic and political collapse.”

Are you sure about that? You didn’t post a source. China is positioned to weather this much better than we are. We as a nation, have a very poor record of saving money. Which means any substantial ecomonic shock like a layoff or 50% increase in prices on certain products would be very hard to absorb for months. The Chinese have a population that encourages saving money and being frugal (cheap). They can weather any prices hikes much better than we can. Plus Chinas exports to the US amounts to just 15% of their GDP. They have options. We don’t. Not after burning bridges with our allies and mocking Europe. Canada can sell their oil to China, Europe can do more business with China, even Africa can do more business with China. Remember, China’s middle class is growing and its’ nearly twice the size of our entire population. Europe has a bigger market to expand to and so does Canada and other asian countries.

        1. @George

          ‘You didn’t post a source.’.

Hm. Curious. Who else never posts sources? You are correct: they didn’t even have the decency to cut and paste anything, or ask chat gpt. 🤷🏻 Charlatans! 🙄

          1. James,

“ Hm. Curious. Who else never posts sources?”

You know who else doesn’t post sources, citations? John Say.

            1. In addition, you will note that John Say often posts late at night and well into the early morning.
People with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia often find it very difficult to fall asleep, especially in the manic phase of the disease.
They can sometimes go for several days without any sleep.

        2. “Are you sure about that?”
No, but the odds heavily favor china collapsing anywhere from days to a few years.
At most Trump is accelerating that.

          ” You didn’t post a source.”
There are myriads of china analysts that not only generally concur that china is in serious trouble, but that outline MANY reasonseach independently large enough to bring about collapse.

“China is positioned to weather this much better than we are.”
Really – 1/3 of their economy depends on exports – primarily to the US, but nearly every other destination is making a deal with the US and
has already told China to pound sand. There are many reports that few if any ships ar leaving China’s main ports.

Lets pretend that China’s exports have only slumped by 10% – that alone would trigger a recession in china – something the Chinese have not experienced since Mao died.

China claims that GDP grew by 5.4% in 2025Q1 – but government revenue is DOWN 3.5% – and that is BEFORE tariffs hit.
China manipulates statistics, but they often do not do so consistently – the Biden administration had similar problems.
It is likely China was in recession BEFORE the tariffs.

ALL reporting on China is speculative – China tries hard to LOCK DOWN all information.
But it is still very hard to have a 16T economy with 1.4B people without information leaking out

There is a great deal of speculation regarding Xi’s grip on power. Again one must read tea leaves – it is china.
But there has been alot of reshuffling in the upper eschelons – that we actually KNOW.
That reshuffling suggest Xi is losing a power struggle.

The US had a serious recession caused by a 500B housing bubble.
China has a 16T housing bubble that has been arround for atleast 5 years that the Government is trying to prevent bursting.

You talk about Chinese savings – most of it is tied up in that housing bubble – because that is the only place China allows people to invest,
which is WHY you have a housing bubble in china.
Regardless 16T of Chinese wealth – savings is illusory.

Nor is that the only fiscal problem. We have to get at China’s debt indirectly, But there is very good evidence that China has been practicing the same MMT idiocy that got Biden in trouble – except for far longer. China’s debt is likely as large as the US, but for a smaller economy, and may be several times that. Further China does not have a globally traded currency – if they did, all that money tied up in housing would have left the country.

“We as a nation, have a very poor record of saving money.”
And the chinese have their all tied up in a giant asset bubble, and the government likely has greater debt than the US.

“Which means any substantial ecomonic shock like a layoff or 50% increase in prices on certain products would be very hard to absorb for months.”
          This statement makes no sense.

“The Chinese have a population that encourages saving money and being frugal (cheap).”
They do, but most of the chinese have only one options for savings and investment – and that is housing.
And all the Chinese money tied up in housing is first illiquid – it can not be sold,
and 2nd spurious, worse still a sell off of housing would trigger the collapse of the 16T chinese housing bubble.

“They can weather any prices hikes much better than we can.”
They have a standard of living that is 1/5th that of the US – no they can not weather price hikes.
Do you think the homeless in the US would endure price hikes very well.
It is a high standard of living that makes it easier to endue temporary economic pain.
Unfortunately it also tends to make people more emotionally fragile. but if the question is about factual fragility rather than emotional fragility – the US is far better off.

The US is the largest food exporter in the world. China imports 25% of its food.
No one in the US is going to risk starvation. China quite litterally could face mass starvation rapidly.

“Plus Chinas exports to the US amounts to just 15% of their GDP.”
FALSE – their Direct exports are 15% of GDP – since Trump’s first term China has been circumventing US tariffs by illegally transshipping through other countries. Part of the deals Trump is making with other countries is shutting that down. overall just over 15% of China’s economy is dependent on the US.

I would note that just a loss of half of 16% of GDP would trigger a depression.
But China is in worse shape that that.

          “They have options.”
Quite literally they DO NOT. Trans shipping has been shut down, Europe and other natios have told them to pound sand over trans shipping and even buying more chinese goods at discount.

The REAL danger to these tariffs is that China DOES NOT have options.

While China was moving towards a free market and greater freedom until Xi ijn 2013, today they are by far the most fascist country in the world. China is VERY dangerous right now – they have been for a long time. But more so now as they are cornered.

This is the time they could do something stupid – like invade Taiwan or sell off the 3T ion US bonds they hold.
Both would be suicidal. But wounded animals are very dangerous and can often harm others as they die.

          “We don’t.”
ROFL – I buy alot of goods from China. I am happy with the ability to get these things at very low prices.
But nearly all of it I can do without completely. There is very little made in China that the US can not do without.

“Not after burning bridges with our allies and mocking Europe.”
ROFL – Europe has come to the table. Do they hate Trump ? almost certainly. But the bridges are not burned – THEY NEED US MORE THAT WE NEED THEM.

“Canada can sell their oil to China,”
Nope, they do not have the pipelines to get oil to their ports – all the pipelines go into the US, and they do not have the port capacity to significantly increase oil or other exports to china.

Canada is pretty much dependant on the US.

“Europe can do more business with China”
Not paying any attention – the EU said H311 NO! of Xi’s request.

“even Africa can do more business with China.”
ROFL – please google the GDP of Africa.
The GDP of ALL of AFrica is about the same as that of Texas.

“Remember, China’s middle class is growing and its’ nearly twice the size of our entire population.”
Actually they are not growing, they are shrinking as their population ages, and the middle class in China has just slightly more income than drug addicts in the US. China has far more people than the US and a far smaller economy – it does not take a calculator to grasp their middle class is below the US poverty level.

“Europe has a bigger market to expand to”
No they do not – The EU has been in recession or near recession for atleast 2 decades. And it is getting worse.
Europe is deindustrializing. Again do the math Europe has a slightly smaller economy than the US and 50% more people.
Their “middle class” have a standard of living about equal to the US 4th quintile.
The EU has not only told China to pound sand – frankly they have do choice – they do NOT have the spendable income to buy significantly more from China.

          “so does Canada”
ROFL – Canada’s GDP is 700B LESS than Texas. Further there standard of living has been stagnant for 15 years and is now significantly lower than the US.

          “other asian countries.”
Have no interest or real ability to BUY from China.
What they all want is to SELL to the US taking advantage of China’s decline.

One of the things Trump was very successful at in his first term that Biden continued, was uniting Asia to CONTAIN China.
Other asian countries are NOT friendly with China.

I have told you that NATO is almost meaningless- because Russia is a paper tiger.

But there is a Quasi NATO in ASia that the US created under Trump I that is effectively containing China.

All these countries do not want to help china, they want to replace china.

    4. @George

I don’t know why, but for some reason this is fun for me today. Chalk it up to the extra free time you are accustomed to. Putting aside the hydra-headed (and obviously paid) monster that is anonymous: ok. So move to China, George. Move to El Salvador, move to Afghanistan, move to Syria, move to Russia, or Cuba, or North Korea. See how things go for you. We in America are not so stupid, and it is why the electoral map in 2024 was not a blue period, like some painter’s self-indulgent fantasy. You are a clown, and I thought that was a dead profession. Guess I was wrong. Keep squirting that fake flower though, inadvertently, it really does make the rest of us laugh. Mission accomplished???

      1. James. despite your drab diatrive you still have not proven what about my posts are lies.

“ We in America are not so stupid, and it is why the electoral map in 2024 was not a blue period, like some painter’s self-indulgent fantasy.”

Apparently we are. We just burned bridges with our allies and picked an economic trade war with China hoping our allies would rally around our side to isolate China. Yeah, really stupid. Trump gave China the biggest opportunity to expand their influence around the world and offer a stable economy. So why are you laughing? Trump just caved to the Chinese. He shut up about Canada when he realized he was helping the liberals there gain an edge on their elections AND encouraged them to seriously consider China as an alternate market for their oil and timber.

What have we gained from Trump’s tariff policies and dissing our closest allies?

        1. I for one want to stop imports and rev up American produced, grown, packaged and distributed.

        2. While we do not accurately know the scale of the problems in the Chinese economy – we do not know if they are bad or completely disasterous.

There are many things we do KNOW. China has absolutely no global friends or allies of consequence.

First the rest of the world is NOT going to buck the US and play to China – How do we know – Because China Begged them to in the past month and failed.
Second because no country in the world really wants $2T in additional chinese imports.
Third because most of these countries and particularly the asian ones want to REPLACE CHINA.

It takes weeks – possibly a month or two to setup a factory in Vietnam or Cambodia.
It takes years in the US.
Asian countries have been trying to steal china’s export business for decades.
          Now they have the oportunity.

China will likely be able to get oil – though not much from Canada. Oil is a globally traded comodity. The global markets can re-arrange to circumvent tariffs on US oil or timber or food.

But that also means the US will NOT be significantly harmed by Chinese tariffs. Because if the Saudis sell oil to china, or the brazillians sell food, or the Canadian’s sell timer (which they are not setup to do). US exports to china will just shift to the destinations that the commodities now serving china were removed from.

China’s problem is that no one else is going to buy more of the goods it produces besides the US.

          You are clueless about that.

    5. Can you name a Trump EO that expands rather than contracts government power ?

Pretty much every Trump EO reads

“The Federal Government will Stop doing stupid (usually woke) things”

  13. Yesterday’s Q1 filing by Tesla had some interesting numbers.
Q1 profit $409 million, DOWN 71%. This is their first ever year to year sales decline.

The really interesting number is income of $595 million from sale of zero emission tax credits.
Without this income from selling tax credits, Tesla would have had a loss of $186 million.

Manufacturers of zero emission vehicles get substantial tax credits. They are free to sell those tax credits to companies producing gasoline powered vehicles, which allows those companies to reduce the reportable emissions of their fleet in order to meet EPA standards.

Who do you think is responsible for this tax credit plan that saved Tesla from a loss???

    JOE BIDEN !!!!

So Joe Biden saved Tesla with his tax credit plan.
    Ahh, sweet irony !!!!

    1. At this point Tesla is really just a carbon credit company that has a couple of cars for sale on the side.

      1. And the cars are really just an app that may or may not kill you, with some associated hardware

        1. Any normal company would oust its CEO after an earnings report like yesterday’s and work on rebuilding its brand

      2. China’s BYD surpassed Tesla as the world’s leading EV manufacturer. They also just rulled out a battery that could be charged to 320 miles in just 5 mins. Tesla is toast. Thanks to the intense EV competition within China the technology is rapidly advancing. I wouldn’t be surprised if China eventually gets to sell EVs here.

        1. Exactly right.

BYD started out as a battery company in 1995. It was founded by a chemist who knew how to build cutting edge batteries. They then moved on to electric vehicles.

In contrast, Musk started Tesla in 2008 as a car company that had no internal expertise in battery design or manufacturing. They had to turn to Panasonic to build old school Li-ion batteries.

          Tesla really is toast.

They have no access to the latest battery technologies.

          1. BYD’s cars have more heavier batteries, and as a result more total weight, horsepower and torque
to acheive the same range and acceleration as a Tesla.

The FACT is BYD’s battery technology is a generation BEHIND tesla’s

Musk did not start Tesla. Tesla was started in 2003, Musk joined in 2004.

          2. Have you idiots on the left ever heard of Google ?

Where in gods name do you get this idiotic nonsense.

Pretty much every asserted fact in your post is not only wrong – but can be verified TRIVIALLY.

You rely way to much on left wing nut opinions posing as facts.
BYD’s batteries weigh more to produce almost the same power – that means they are BEHIND,
as weight is absolutely critical in EV’s.

Tesla was formed in 2003 not 2008, and Musk did not join until 2004

While I am not looking to pi$$ over BYD – they are impressive, and they are China’s largest private employer and largest private company.

And competition is a good thing.

But you could still get your facts straight.

          3. “They have no access to the latest battery technologies.”

Tesla operates a *battery* Gigafactory in Nevada and a Megafactory in California (with more such factories in the works). Those operations include cutting edge, scientific battery research.

Those motivated by a desire to tear down greatness excel at blowing smoke.

        2. World Best Selling Model Ranking in 2025.

          5 Toyota Camry
          6 Kia Sportage
          7 Tesla Model Y
          8 Hyundai Tuscon

  14. She is just a step short of Axis Sally “Mildred Elizabeth Gillars” who broadcast under that name during WW2 for the Germans. Convicted after the war on 1 charge of Treason in 1949 and eventually served 12 years in prison before being paroled. She had actually sworn allegiance to Adolph Hitler. Was born in Portland, Maine. Besides her conviction she was stripped of her American citizenship. Never recanted any of her Nazi views.
I hope Jankowicz wakes up someday and realizes what she has done but I won’t hold my breath.
Maybe she can move to Ireland and reside with Rosie O’Donnell. I would wonder which will be able to out talk the other.
Can’s we lose her Passport records or miss hit the keyboard so all record of her is expunged. Sort of like they did for J in “Men in Black’.
It is a dream I have. “Excalibur”

    1. @GEB

She is, and it is painfully obvious to anyone that knows better. Sadly, if you are under 40, or a flower child that dropped out decades ago – you likely don’t. Thank you for your clear head and good comments, always worth reading.

These kids should be given, ‘The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich’, to read instead of comics full of rubber penises and S&M, or at this point, in favor of even things like Epictetus, because that is useless without a basic understanding of the human condition. Very, very basic understanding of human life and nature just isn’t there. It is not there. I cannot I believe I just wrote that as a description of facts on the ground, but here we are.

That this is happening even in medical schools guarantees I will never see a doctor who is not at *least* (and I am not a senior) my age, and indeed, I have walked out on appointments when confronted with a 28 year-old PA.

  15. She is ludicrous. They just never stop, and the fact that she had to be reassigned to Britain (and she was. It was not a ‘coincidental lateral move’, she was reassigned to waters more tolerant of the totalitarianism she represents and endorses, because thankfully, our laws stopped them in their tracks here) to continue her ‘work’ says everything.

Anyone that still believes we are dealing with anything other than a coordinated and global regime on the left these days is an idiot. thankfully, here, what she gets for her efforts is mockery. We have a lot of hard work to do to keep it that way. It’s awful not being able to rest or let one’s guard down, but we mustn’t. Today’s left can never hold power in this country ever again. The few, and there are few, people that still identify as party liberals and have some sanity really (constituents, not leadership; basically the un-radicalized who just haven’t paid much attention for decades) need to start thinking about starting a different and separate party unless they want to go down with the ship.

RFK and Tulsi might as well be ghosts given the reticence of the rest. That is not going to be nearly enough. Any of you that still think Nancy or Adam or Hillary still possess redeeming qualities – wake up, and take a stand. It’s now or never. Bill Maher is a self-proclaimed ‘pot smoking Libertine’ and even he gets it to an extent. Even our good Professor has the inclination to continue to gush from time to time. Enough. Let’s all move on, together.

    1. 1. This Nina woman makes money at this.

      2. She’s smart enough to get out.

      3. The back story is the collapse of the EU/UK

    2. Well, it’s perverse. To get social points now one must tear up something, do harm, steal or big points Luigi mangione. The reverse was once true. Social points for good will.

The spirit is ill. They think it’s a game. Perhaps they all use serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Anyway , it’s designed ill will, spirit.
