“The End Goal of Seizing the Means of Production”: Yup, Mamdani is a Hardcore Marxist

Below is my column on Fox.com on the debate that Democratic New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is a socialist, a Democratic Socialist, or a communist. What is clear is that Mamdani is a Marxist and that is a serious problem for New York.

Here is the column:

Zohran Mamdani was officially certified as the winner of the June 24 New York City Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday. He defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on his way to a victory that is still sending shockwaves through the Democratic Party establishment and beyond.

The only question that remains: who is Zohran Mamdani? The debate is raging where he is antisemitic or just pro-Palestinian; anti-ICE or just pro-immigrant? However, one thing seems to be increasingly clear.

Mamdani is a serious Marxist and that should concern anyone in New York City.

Recently, PolitiFact declared that it was “false” that Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is a “communist.” This was in response to President Donald Trump‘s calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic” on Truth Social. However, while we can quibble over whether the term “communist” is supported by past statements, it appears that Mamdani is likely a Marxist.

PolitiFact characterized the use of the label by Trump and others as  a “red scare tactic that has existed in U.S. politics for decades.” For those center-right in American politics, it may have seemed a tad ironic since conservatives and libertarians are routinely called “fascists” and the left has engaged in McCarthy-like tactics to blacklist and question the loyalty of those with opposing views. That is rarely the subject of “fact checks.”

We have repeatedly discussed the biased and sometimes false conclusions of PolitiFact (here, here, and here). On this occasion, PolitiFact may have once again been too quick on the trigger to denounce Trump and conservatives over characterizations of Mamdani’s political and economic views.

First, I have not joined those who have called Mamdani a “communist” as opposed to a “socialist” because these terms are interpreted in wildly different ways. For example, despite being a great critic of Mamdani and his views, I have not seen Mamdani advocating for single-party control over the political system or the complete centralization of the economy under government control.

However, it appears that Mamdani is a serious Marxist, based on recently revealed comments he has made.  In one speech before the Young Democratic Socialists of America conference, Mamdani even states matter-of-factly how one of the goals is to “seize the means of production” in America.

“Right now, if we’re talking about the cancellation of student debt, if we’re talking about Medicare for all, you know, these are issues which have the groundswell of popular support across this country. But then there are also other issues that we firmly believe in, whether it’s BDS or whether it is the end goal of seizing the means of production, where we do not have the same level of support at this very moment.”

That does not sound like soft socialism, but fairly hardcore Marxism. It also contradicts PolitiFact’s statement that “Mamdani’s platform is not akin to communism, a system of government which calls for government takeover of private property and control of industry.”

To his credit, Mamdani is not denying that he opposes capitalism and wants to eliminate all billionaires. (He is not clear where millionaires might face their own cutoff for excessive wealth).

Mamdani is the perfect product of the extreme American left. He emerged from the Hollywood and academic environs where extreme views are the rage. He is the son of Professor Mahmood Mamdani, a far-left professor, and Mira Nair, a liberal Indian-American filmmaker. His father teaches subjects from “post-colonialism” to “race capitalism” at Columbia.

Mamdani is the prototype of what some of us have been writing about in the radicalization of higher education, particularly at elite colleges and universities. He graduated in 2014 from the elite Bowdoin College with a bachelor’s degree in African studies.  These schools are now largely devoid of conservative faculty members. Scholars generally run from the left to the far left.

Polls show increasing support among young people for socialism and even communism. Notably, Mamdani received significant support in the primary from wealthy and young college-educated voters.

To put it simply, it is cool to be socialist among generations who did not experience the economic failures of socialist systems in the 20th Century in countries like Great Britain and France. They did not witness former communist countries turning to capitalism to rescue their failing economies.

Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic primary was fueled by promises of free buses, free healthcare, free daycare, as well as city-run grocery stores.  He even promised “to make Halal eight bucks again.”

It is true that most countries, including the United States, have long embraced social welfare systems. It is also true that some programs once denounced as socialism are now considered mainstream. However, Mamdani’s categorical opposition to capitalism and his references to seizing control of the means of production suggest more extreme Marxist views.

Mamdani has tried to downplay fears over his views after his victory, stating:

“When we talk about my politics, you know, I call myself a Democratic socialist in many ways inspired by the words of Dr. [Martin Luther] King from decades ago, who said, ‘Call it democracy, call it Democratic-Socialism, there has to be a better distribution of wealth for all of God’s children in this country.'”

It is hard to “call it Democratic-Socialism” when you are talking about seizing control of the means of production and opposing capitalism. It suggests that his vision of a “greater distribution of wealth” is far more radical than anything Dr. King was referencing.

Mamdani would not be the first child from an affluent, privileged background to embrace Marxism. In my forthcoming book, Rage and the Republic: The Unfinished Story of the American Revolution, I examine how revolutionaries, from the French Revolution to contemporary movements, have often come from the elite or privileged classes. I discuss the current radicalization in America in exploring the future of American democracy in the 21st Century.

There is a full-court press to dismiss questions about Mamdani’s philosophical views by many in the media and academia. After all, as Mamdani noted on “issues that we firmly believe in [like] the end goal of seizing the means of production…  we do not have the same level of support at this very moment.” That support is growing by maintaining a cocoon of ambiguity.

There is a good-faith debate on whether the existing record supports a claim that Mamdani is a communist. However, there is ample reason to suggest that he is a Marxist. That should be a matter of significant concern, particularly as the possible head of government in the world’s greatest financial center.

Marx once said in frustration that “if anything is certain, it is that I myself am not a Marxist.” Perhaps, but Zohran Mamdani does appear to be a true, hardcore Marxist.

  1. Could we send these adult children like George to a place like Cuba, let them actually live in a Marxist paradise for a while? Maybe a few could have their heads straightened out. Not George though, he’s far too dense, he’d come back even more of a true believer.

  2. Americans have already decided that Marxism and defunding the police are very bad ideas. Alas, when will the New Yorkers get up to speed? Indoctrination is developed through the use of Illusions. Illusions are a persistent thing but nevertheless they are still illusions. They are intricate to the mastery of the magician. A new magician has arrived in New York applying the tricks of the trade. The pea is never under any of the shells. Take heed New York.

  3. Marxists actually LOVE Capitalism – FOR THEMSELVES! Capitalism for the masses though? OH HELL NO! ‘Tis their only rallying cry.

    1. It’s just a strategy to seize property, money. Make a huge mess and while the serfs, plebians tear up and burn , the strategist does the real looting. At the end its just a pile of sticks and rubble. In this sense it’s Kafkaesque. Termites…

  4. Dear Mr. Turley, Thanks for the superb article. Although I reside in Wisconsin, I am very concerned about the possibility of Mr. Mamdani becoming the mayor of New York City. Anyone who may care about the future of the USA, should be shouting from the rooftops about the conditions in London since the election of their communist mayor, Sadiq Khan. Crime way up, a once very vibrant nightlife now gone. Many old established pubs are shuttered. I hope the folks of New York City will awaken and not elect him. They will be signing their own death warrant if they do.

    1. @Anonymous

Completely agree. This is elitist to the core and stinks to high heaven, and it will not stay confined to Manhattan. Those of us that know better may have to carry the torch much longer than we ever expected to – possibly all of our lives – we are not passing it to this cohort unless we favor our own destruction, period. A very simple example would be the CHAZ autonomous zone – that is what we are potentially looking at. And all instigated by spoiled children with clinical narcissism. Really: there is no room to rest on laurels, and the progress we are currently making could be erased with a single national election. It isn’t fun, but it is what it is. stay awake and act accordingly (which is the perfect opposite of ‘woke’).

We often cite 1984 as an example, throw Lord of the Flies in there as well, because that is where this leads.

      1. James,
A CHAZ autonomous zone, with a city population of some 8 million people.
        What could go wrong?

  5. Mamdani has learned the path via others. (I don’t like political labeling. I believe a majority of Americans do not know the differences between communism, Marxism, socialism, etc.—which are commonly and euphemistically used interchangeably by Media, and the persons themselves-depending on their targeted audience(s).)
    1.
Here is the history of another political candidate, Christopher Helali, as he works his way and negotiates (dare I say infiltrates?) a path forward, from farmer, to high school teacher, to failed political candidate, to MEDIA journalist, to political candidate. I can only cite two links, so this is divided between two comments. Please follow Christopher Helali’ path forward:

And now, in 2025, we have his latest bid:
“The gangsters of empire have brought the world once more to the brink. The bipartisan commitment to full spectrum dominance is paving the way to nuclear confrontation. The U.S.-EU-NATO axis must be stopped. NATO must be abolished if Europe is to have peace in our times.”

    2. …”which are commonly and euphemistically used interchangeably by Media, and the persons themselves-depending on their targeted audience(s).)”

The words are largely interchangable within MAGA. They are the ones who conflate the various labels according to their gripe of the day. If you mean Fox News media then I agree with you. Fox News is by far the biggest abuser of the labeling and confating of “socialism”, “Marxism”, and “Communism”. They sure love doing that just to keep their viewers misinformed and riled up.

      1. How about this then, government control, is that simple enough for your pea-brain? Everything this fool has proposed is government control. Government-controlled grocery stores, wow, haven’t seen that tried before (and failed, but what’s a few details between friends). Government-controlled rent prices, yes, that’s not going to have any negative effects, why haven’t we tried that before? Government-controlled wages, that’s brilliant, go with it, there are no secondary effects in left-wing fantasy land. So long as someone else picks up the check, right?

Grow up already. Stop blaming the chimera of “MAGA” and “Fox News” for your terrible policy ideas.

        1. But you love government control. That’s why you voted for Trump. Right?

Especially when women’s bodies, welfare, and morality are the issues. Right?

          1. My god are you a joke. Seriously, why do you insist on showing the world your intellectual shortcomings? Normal people would be embarrassed, but Georgie here just soldiers on.

    3. @lin

‘I believe a majority of Americans do not know the differences between communism, Marxism, socialism, etc.—which are commonly and euphemistically used interchangeably by Media, and the persons themselves-depending on their targeted audience(s).)’

That’s because at root, there is no distinction to be made and they all contain the same inevitability as the subsequent layers fail. To lack the prescience to believe otherwise given both history and the reality of human nature and freewill is madness. It is why this country was founded, and what it was founded on – prescience, and knowing and wanting something better. Wisdom and actual critical thought are not just in short supply, but non-existent in a large portion of anyone under 40 in the modern West, and in 10-20 years, that will be it. Don’t give credit where it isn’t due, and don’t think there is any preprogrammed or organic moment of epiphany that will occur once one passes a certain demarcation in life. None of that is a guarantee, and it’s time we all accept it. A great many really f***** up with their kids and their political reticence, even locally. Face the music and do better, because our survival actually depends on it now.

      1. Hey James, did you see Turley’s second paragraph from the bottom where he distinguishes between Marxist and Communist?

  6. Mamdani’s base of support appears to be young, college-educated and white. That they support government interventions of the kind he proposes —- such as rent freezes, $30 minimum wage, free services and city-owned grocery stores that will presumably sell at cost or less — suggests that they have not learned basic economics or the history of socialism where it’s been implemented. Mamdani himself majored in Africana Studies at Bowdoin, so I doubt he has a solid grounding in these areas. But he is very fluent in woke-speak, which is what his supporters like.

Unless the opposition unites against him, he could win. Cuomo and Adams could cannibalise each other’s support.

    1. Those voters like the idea of what he proposes. It does not mean he will be able to implement them all. To assume that Mamdani will succeed in implementing all of his ideas or proposals is a fools errand.

Some of them do have merit, like rent freezes or raising the minimum wage, especially in NYC where rent is already sky-high.

The city owned grocery stores sounds like a good idea, but that will be difficult with the large number of bodegas, the tiny grocery stores that are peppered all over NYC already offering an alternative.

      1. Rent freezes and minimum wage raises, tell me you don’t understand the first thing about economics without telling me that you don’t understand the first thing about economics. These will only cause prices to rise even higher and faster. Even Europe has moved away from rent control, yet the modern American left is determined to mount their calvary horses and charge straight into the machine gun fire of reality.

      2. “Those voters like the idea of what he proposes.”

Voters love ice cream paid for by someone else, news at 11. If only there were an adult in Democrat politics.

      3. Rent freezes? So party A owns a building and rents it freely to party B and your thought is that the state can say how much Party A can charge to party B? Well if housing is of such importance that the government can demand that the OWNER can’t raise rents, even as his costs increase every year and maintenance needs to be done, then why can’t the state not allow grocery stores or even restaurants to raise their prices? I mean food is even more important than housing and yet you don’t see this movement happening.

If I OWN the building the state has no damn right to tell me what I can charge to rent it out. Not only that genius, but it decreases the amount of housing!!!

        1. You’re trying to use logical arguments on a person who probably has a sub-70 IQ. While I do appreciate your thoughtful post, otherwise you’re wasting your time.

          1. Good point, arguing with George is a waste of time. I usually ignore his comments, but this one was short so I slogged through it and I found I had to reply.

            1. Sometimes I wish this blog would have a mute feature. So I could be spare from reading such idiotic garbage from the likes of George. However, at the same time, having such a feature will go against what this blog which is all about the Freedom of Speech (as long as it doesn’t interfere with the rights of others, isn’t criminal, or defamatory libel).

        2. The housing is confiscated and then rented out by the gov as gov revenue.

It’s their way of controlling inflation 😏

        3. The state can set a limit. They can’t tell you exactly how much to charge. The state can regulate prices when they get out of control. That’s why there are anti-price gouging statutes.

“I mean food is even more important than housing and yet you don’t see this movement happening.”

That’s a false equivalence. Food is more readily available and not scarce like housing. You can’t produce more housing as easily as food. Corporations buying up housing to corner the market and charge ridiculously high prices because they control the supply and often have monopolies on housing markets and often collude with each other to keep prices high sometimes requires government intervention.

Rent control may be a dirty word within Republican circles, but they don’t oppose it when they directly benefit from it.

You don’t explain how rent freezes or rent control decreases the amount of housing?

Air B&B’s contribute hugely to high rents because they take away available housing. People and companies buying up properties to use as air b&B’s decreases the amount of permanent housing too.

There will never be lower housing costs as long a you have investors and companies buying up properties and jacking up rent beyond what most can reasonably afford. Investors and companies tend to get greedy and are often loathe to reduce rent when everyone else is charging sky high rent. The only way to lower rent is to oversupply in housing. But we both know developers and investors will fight tooth and nail to keep the availability of housing scarce to keep prices high. That’s why government is sometimes needed to put pressure on lowering prices by limiting how much landords and investors can raise prices.

          1. Math Is Hard: Mamdani Solves Budget Crisis With Imaginary Money
“Mamdani’s proposal hinges on reallocating funds from New York City’s Food Retail Expansion to Support Health (FRESH) program, which offers tax breaks and regulatory relief to private grocery stores opening in food deserts, low-income areas with limited access to fresh produce.
“NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s flagship plan for city-run grocery stores faces scrutiny after a financial blunder revealed his projected funding, $140 million, was based on a misreading of private investments as public subsidies.”
            https://www.jfeed.com/news-world/zohran-mamdani-city-run-grocery-stores-miscalculation

      4. “The city owned grocery stores sounds like a good idea . . .”

Sure. If you like the DMV.

  7. Excellent post. The problem is, the young voters who gave him the primary are so coddled and entitled in their upbringings, they expect society to take over for mom and dad, and so historically illiterate they don’t understand why Marxism is a *very bad idea*. We are talking about generations that have never really had to deal with anything of any significance their entire lives, and following them is following them right over a cliff.

The modern dems aren’t talking to you and me, they are talking to these cohorts. Many of the rest of us are asleep at the wheel and are the ones that did the coddling in the first place. This was always going to have very serious consequences down the road, and there is no magical, pre-existing ‘reality’ for these people to bump into other than what we have created through our Constitutional system; it can be just as easily uncreated through enough reticence, and reticence is a plague, currently.

The fact that they don’t seem to understand where the wealth they inherited came from in the first place sort of says it all. None of this will work.

    1. Add the twilight years of the Federal Reserve’s waning position of the USD as the global currency reserve and Congressional never ending debt spending to today’s political turmoil . . . . Not good.

  8. Don’t get so caught up in titles and ideologies. It will be very interesting to see how Mamdani deals with the real politics of power in New York should he get elected.

  9. Mamdani wants to establish one city-run grocery store in each of the 5 NYC Burroughs and fund them by repealing the tax breaks extended to current grocery stores. However, it is these tax breaks that allow current groceries to remain open and be marginally profitable. Without the tax breaks unprofitable grocery stores will likely close. There are almost 9 million people that live in NYC. So when the private groceries close, that will leave the 5 city-owned grocery stores to each serve, on average, 1.8 million NYC residents. That should work, no?

  10. Semantics be damned. Marxism, Communism and Socialism all have one thing in common. They all call for a government takeover of production. Marxist and Communist call for the government control of production right out loud while Socialist simply hide their true intentions through a false facade of moderation. The correct definition of a Socialist must be determined to simply mean to be a sneaky Communist. Should the implantation of a government takeover of the means of production in New York come to pass the same mass exodus of businesses to more friendly confines that is occurring in California will soon follow. All the taxes being paid by the evil Capitalist will dry up and the burden will shift to the average tax payer to make up the difference. Next the average taxpayer will also relocate and all the high speed rail projects will never get built.
Well, the man gotta plan and the people who voted for him will one day be leaving on a plane. The sad result will be that those who can’t afford a plane ticket will be left in the hell hole. Perhaps deservedly so. You reap what you sow.

    1. Again, MAGA nutties don’t care for distinctions because everything is the same. Bernie Sanders is Democrat socialist. So is Mamdani. I don’t see Turley griping about Sander’s positions or assuming he’s Marxist because of something he said years ago.

Mamdani’s views or suggestions do not mean they will be implemented. Just like Trump. He likes to make big outlandish claims just like Mamdani. Will he actually implement them, likely not. But Republicans and MAGA nutties sure want to believe it so they can have something to gripe about.

Mamdani’s election and very likely becoming NYC’s next mayor Is a reaction for Mayor Adams and Trump’s open corruption and bribery schemes.

What seems to be attractive about Mamdani is he’s not afraid to to tell Trump, “No.”

Threatening to deport him and denaturalize him because he was elected is another issue. Turley conveniently avoided that. Turley piles on the “Marxist” label because of Mamdani said out of context and he’s silent on the dictatorial calling to strip citizenship and deport. That’s what Tin Pot despots love to do when they are threatened by someone else’s popularity or success.

Turley is afraid to seriously criticize Trump, he knows he won’t survive a Trump punch-down and ensuing MAGA blowback. They turn on you like rabid dogs.

      1. Will you please just take your sophomoric, idiotic analysis and go away? Nobody reads your garbage. What compels an idiot to keep demonstrating his idiocy? Are you not aware that you’re an idiot with idiotic beliefs?

        1. You read it. You have because otherwise you wouldn’t be griping about it.

You seem to be unaware that you have a problem recognizing that you have a reading comprehension problem and don’t want to admit that you just don’t understand complex topics or points of view. You seem to prefer 5th grade level explanations because anything harder than that makes you feel…inadequate.

Furthermore…this is a free speech forum where anyone can express their views or positions. Why don’t you just porpose a counter-argument, one with substance or facts.

          1. I see George has decided to grace me with a reply. Too bad, like everyone else on this blog, I won’t read it. Take it somewhere else, you’ve worn out your welcome here. Seriously, you’re a joke.

            1. “I won’t read it”

LOL! I know you already did. Instead of replying to my post which you read. Simply don’t say anything if you don’t like my points of view. How hard can it be?

              1. More diseased brain droppings from the primitive life form George.

Me: Grok, summarize the post above.
Grok: It appears that something fell on a keyboard and subsequently rolled over the Enter key.

      2. “Bernie Sanders is Democrat socialist. So is Mamdani.”

There is only one difference between democratic socialism and complete dictatorship: Time.

Learn some history, some political philosophy, and the ability to see the future consequences of statist ideas.

  11. Outstanding post, Professor Turley. Sometimes the truth has to hurt.

If this Mamdani clown wins, it might be time for a major geographical realignment. Major realignments made the American West, so it’s not like they are unheard of. The last Civil War proved a bloody, failed realignment, so if we want to avoid the next Civil War, we should consider the following:

Kick the major coastal metros out of the Union while we still can. I’m specifically talking about NYC, Chicago, and LA.

They have bullied conservatives out of their environs for years, so the great tipping point in their politics was reached with vindictive fury a long time ago. The major coastal metros have always been hives of radicalism, but runaway globalism, immigration, and the exiling of conservatives has brought them to an irretrievable point. These cities are gangrenous hellscapes, filled with political fools, rioting ghettos, and the most disgusting demagogues.

Nobody with any sense can live indefinitely with these open-air asylums as part of the polity. If these crackpots ever get back in power in D.C., they will force a realignment on their own terms, and that would be the end of America in every sense.

The details of a proper realignment are not that important. The salient features would be that these decaying madhouses be kicked out of D.C. and reduced to rump states so that they can never spread their rot to the rest of the Country. Build a wall because it would probably become necessary.

I’m not YET convinced this is the right way to go, but Mamdani’s rise suggests the trend toward a crisis is accelerating.

    1. Diogenes, I’m uncertain about the future, but the direction the U.S. is heading runs straight against what Mamdami stands for. The media is pushing hard for his victory and treats it as a done deal. But the election is still far off. That leaves time, plenty of it for damaging details to surface about his plans.

I don’t think New Yorkers are that foolish beforehand. And if they are, Mamdami may be forced to dial back his goals, or he risks wrecking the city and laying communism bare. That would be a costly, but thankfully, a local lesson.

If he wins (which I still put under 50%), what then? We’ve seen the same kind of foolishness take root in New York, Chicago, and LA. Yet the country keeps moving forward. Those cities have become test labs—proof that the theories they follow don’t work. I believe the radicalism will eventually be forced back into the box.

      1. I believe the radicalism will eventually be forced back into the box.

SM, I’m sure you’re aware that going “back in the box” is not the same as being defeated. Like the gophers in Caddyshack, these radicals have come out of the box all over the country (and throughout the world), and we all know what happened to the golf course in the end.

        1. “I’m sure you know that going “back in the box” isn’t the same as being defeated.”

Just like Amalek reappears, so does the Left.

I recall when market theory was the answer, and Milton Friedman promoted it on PBS. That didn’t last. Then Reagan brought it back, and again, it didn’t last.

Trump is doing the job now. He’ll put the enemy in a box again, just like before. But that box doesn’t hold forever. The devil, this time it’s Mamdani, and the communists always find a way to creep back in.

Amalek was never fully wiped out. One was left alive, and he didn’t just survive. He procreated.

That’s how Amalek keeps coming back. In every generation, it returns with a new name and a new disguise. Today, it’s the global Left, pushing the same poison. The job has never been finished. That’s never happened yet. And it won’t happen until…

  12. Even if this moron Mamdani is elected, he won’t be in office too long if he tries to implement his stupidity. Most Marxist/Communist/Socialist countries have been disarmed. Not so here in the US. Once people go to the govt owned grocery store and there isn’t even a loaf of bread or peanut butter and the kids are screaming, or they watch as people are murdered on the subway because there are no cops, the target on his back will be huge. And who is going to prosecute anyone?

  13. Was wondering how long it would take to be assigned to direct your McCarthy esque tactics to a character assassination campaign against the Democrat who laid the groundwork of how to beat the Russian mis and disinformation you’re paid to disseminate, Turls….

    Alas, we have our answer.

    1. Shut up and go away gigi. You’re a pestilence. And seriously, Russian disinformation? What is this, 2016?

        1. Great, now you’re so delusional that you’re talking to yourself. Why did the psych ward ever get a computer for the patients?

  14. 1,116 words to demonstrate a conclusion that anyone with a functioning brain had deduced 2 weeks ago. NTM the 98% predictable deluge of comments to follow. Until fairly recently, I thought this space had sufficient value to be worth a daily scan, but that has not been true for some time now. Sadly, pretty much every other on-line site that once featured frequently worthwhile thoughts is on the same path (or has already disappeared). Has the egalitarian decline of the internet assumed full force yet?

    1. What are you talking about, they love America! They just want to change every aspect of it into something else. See how far you get trying that line on your spouse.

  15. Children of the 90’s who are now coming into positions of power have no living memory of the horrors of 20th Century Marxist misery. So many of us find it appalling. This newer generation has no context to understand other than Life is so unfair and I must blame someone else.

  16. Been reading about a number of businesses talking about if they throw money at Adam’s in order to defeat Mamdani, or if polls show a lot of support for Mamdani, make plans now to leave NYC. Even prior to Mamdani even appearing on the scene, businesses were leaving NYC for places like FL due to the better business climate of FL, less crime, lower taxes.

    1. This fool will wreck NY in a very short time.
But, if the people of NY want this… enjoy.

      Popcorn time.

    2. If the non-marxists are serious about leaving and NYC and other marxist-trending blue cesspools follow they can easily do this as now any business other than service industries are capable of locating anywhere in the world that has internet infrastructure capable of meeting their needs. Many areas would welcome them.

Service industries such as grocery stores, restaurants, car repair, hair care, health care etc. will become functions of the state and will produce empty shelves, lines for products and crappy service. How these naive imbeciles cannot see this coming must be do to their very effective indoctrination and their desire to be slugs for the cause.

    3. Perhaps unfortunately Ron DeSantis’ time is over and Florida’s policies are dependent upon his clear thinking.

    4. Upstate, for years, YEARS. There’s always been talk about leaving NYC because of some politician’s views or proposals. It’s NYC, it’s always been a place of controversial ideas and views. Because it’s a place where every culture and nationality is represented. Mamdani is just a representation of what our democratic system allows. Anyone who chooses to run for office…can.

      1. If you are at all familiar with history, people once thought the same thing about Babylon, Thebes, Athens. Rome, Constantinople, London, Paris… get the picture. Humanity moves on when the local environment is no longer livable. NYC, like LA and SF, are on the precipice of implosion and this would-be marxist is only speeding up the end.

      2. New York loses $1 trillion in Wall Street business as firms flee the city: report

Prominent businesses threaten to leave NYC if socialist Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor
“If Mamdani becomes the mayor of New York, you’re going to see the flight of businesses from New York. Most of the businesses that operate in New York City in the financial sector are incredibly portable,” said Bill Ackman.

  17. We have been observing Mary’s deplorable effects on humanity for a century and more yet utopia is a difficult cult to break.

The only path to curing NYC (and much of America’s blue urban cesspools) will, ultimately, be to let them go all the way and experience the hell that will become those places when total Marxism is in place.

Hopefully, major industries and wealth will flee and a bankrupt cauldron of chaos will ensue.

I found myself disappointed when I read that Trump plans to bail out the hapless Newsome for the LA riots. I believe that California should clean up its own mess.

Likewise I believe that you cannot rationally explain to would-be marxists that they are on a path to social and economic destruction. Like a child told not to touch the flame, many will try – once and learn an important life lesson – so will indoctrinated marxist wannabes need to learn the hard way.

    1. I doubt that Trump is just going to give money to CA and LA without any strings attached. Don’t be surprised if there’s some kind of consent decree or equivalent. Or, since Newsom was threatening to somehow illegally hold back federal tax dollars, Trump will ensure that it’s just their own federal tax money going back to them. That would be a nice twisting of the knife.

      1. I surely hope that Trump puts the “Let me make you an offer you cannot refuse” deal on the table for newsome.

      1. Since most LLMs have been shown to have a demonstrated leftist bias, you probably confused it with your denunciation of Marxism.

    2. whimsicalmama,
Yes, Newsome should be held accountable, the Trump admin is moving to help out small businesses that were damaged by the anti-ICE riots.
“Governor Newsom allowed a mob to rampage Los Angeles – standing with violent rioters, paid protestors, and criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding citizens. Despite an estimated $1 billion in damage, he refused federal relief for weeks, insisting that the riots were peaceful even as small business owners stood in the rubble,” Loeffler said in the press release.

“Although the SBA has approved California’s disaster relief request and will begin delivering immediate aid to the innocent victims, Governor Newsom must take accountability for his state-sanctioned crisis – and stop playing politics with Americans’ livelihoods.”
