Saudi Arabian Muslim Clerics Issue Fatwa Against Pokemon Go

Pokemon-Go_logo.svgSaudi Arabia’s top Islamic clerics have renewed a prior religious edict or fatwa that warns against playing Pokemon in order to expressly denounce the playing of the wildly popular mobile phone application Pokemon Go as UnIslamic and evil. This will come as a shock to my kids and their cousins who recently coerced me to drive around the neighborhood to bag a few Pokemon (while correctly me that it is not pronounced “pokeMAN.”) One would have hoped that with Sunni following the Saudi Wahhabi sect beheading people and enslaving girls, Pokemon Go would seem fairly low on the list of “to do” subjects for clerics.

Florida Therapist Sits On Ground With Hands Up While Trying To Calm Unarmed Autistic Man . . . Police Shoot Therapist

shootingclipThere is a very disturbing videotape out today that left me stunned and frankly irate. While I have sometimes questioned the evidence of police abuse in some high-profile cases where there is a gun present or extenuating circumstances, I can see no such circumstances in the shooting of Charles Kinsey in North Miami. Kinsey is a dedicated caretaker at an assisted living facility who went outside to calm down a young autistic man. Neither was armed and, at the time of the shooting, Kinsey had his hands up as he tried to get the troubled young man to lay on his stomach. Police fired three rounds, hitting Kinsey.

The Luckiest Place On Earth: Family Of Dead Toddler Decides Not To Sue Disney Over Alligator Attack

16alligator_web1-master768-v4Yesterday, we discussed how the case against Disney in the death of two-year-old Lane Graves seemed to be getting worse for the company by the day with a new controversy over a poster instructing employees to mislead tourists asking about the risk of alligators. Many of us felt that Disney richly deserved to be sued and that such a lawsuit could produce valuable deterrence for Disney and other companies in the future. However, to the surprise of many, Matt and Melissa Graves of Elkhart, Nebraska have announced that they will not sue Disney for the death of their son in the lagoon at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Florida’s Walt Disney World.

Twitter Accused (Again) Of Anti-Conservative Bias After Permanently Banning Milo Yiannopoulos

Cnxluz-XEAAcIQqWe have previously discussed the troubling efforts to bar conservative speakers from college campuses and social media, particularly Breitbart Tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos who has become something of an icon for young conservatives. Twitter has long been criticized for banning or harassing conservative figures, including repeated suspensions against Yiannopoulos. Now, the company is under fire for permanently banning Yiannopoulos — just 20 minutes before his “Gays for Trump” event takes place at the Republican National Convention.

Walt Disney Accused of Firing Intern Who Objected to Sign Telling Employees To Deny Risk Of Alligators At Florida Property

We previously discussed the tragic death of Lane Graves, 2, at a Disney resort after an alligator attack. Things are already pretty bad for the company, but there is yet another twist. A Walt Disney World intern was fired after she posted objected to a sign advising employees to tell guests that they do not know of any alligators in the waters. After an outcry, the company has rehired Shannon Sullivan. The question remains whether such evidence could be introduced to show the company’s alleged continued misrepresentation or concealment of the risks associated with the alligators.

Englishman Takes Police On 100MPH Chase and Then Posts Route On Social Media

Connor Lloyd, 20, is someone who has as little judgment as he does self-control. That would explain first taking police on a high speed chase in Cambridge and then, after he escaped, he posted his route and bragged on social media. He is now going to jail.

Gingrich Proposes To Criminalize The Visiting Of Sites Deemed “Favoring” Terrorist Groups

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is made a highly disturbing proposal that people who visit sites that are deemed as favoring terrorist groups. As articulated by Gingrich in his Fox News interview, the proposal would eviscerate the first amendment and leave that government in a position to regulate speech and association based on an ill-defined standard. Gingrich also attracted criticism for his proposal to test Muslims to allow for deportation of anyone who “believes in Sharia” — a proposal that would sanction peoplr for their religious and political views.

CoiffeurGate: Hollande’s Hair Costs Leaves Many French In Shock

220px-François_Hollande_(Journées_de_Nantes_2012)It is the prototypical French scandal: CoiffeurGate.  While U.S. leaders are hounded by national security lapses or fraud allegations, President François Hollande is under fire for paying roughly 10,000 euros per month to his personal hairdresser.  The unpopular socialist has failed to deliver on key campaign promises and has reversed early disastrous policies that resulted in an exodus of wealthy people from the country.  However, his pricey hair maintenance appears the final blow for many who are outraged as the excess of the President.  To put it in perspective, Holland’s hair costs roughly the same as what one of his government ministers make in a year.  What is particularly curious is that there does not appear a whole lot of hair up there to cultivate, but it is enough for a wonderfully French scandal.

NARAL Under Fire For Video “Comedians In Cars Getting Abortions”

UnknownUnknownAdvocacy groups will sometimes compete for members by moving to the far extreme of an issue. As we have discussed, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a good example. NARAL Pro-Choice has proven itself equally extreme in its message at times. The recent video parody entitled “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions” is a good example.  The video makes fun to seeking an abortion and refers to children as if they virtual vermin.

Eagle At Bird Show In Australia Attempts To Fly Off With Little Boy

_90358719_eagle2

There is an interesting question of liability raised in a frightening encounter of a wedge-tailed eagle and a little boy at a wildlife show in central Australia.  The eagle tried to fly away with a terrified boy at a popular wildlife show in central Australia at the Alice Springs Desert Park. Fortunately the boy only suffered superficial injuries.  The question in torts is one of animal liability, though the laws in Australia are different.
