There is considerable buzz in Washington about the disclosures of Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin on controversial grants by the Biden Administration, including the $50 million environmental justice grant to an organization that believes “climate justice travels through a Free Palestine.” However, one item was particularly notable: $160 million to a Canadian electric bus manufacturer which later announced bankruptcy without fulfilling the contract. Continue reading “Full Charge: EPA Sent $160 Million to now Bankrupt Canadian Electric Bus Company”
Below is my column in the New York Post on the growing claim of a “constitutional crisis” over the Trump reforms. It is the latest political jump scare to see if it will rouse the public. It seems, again, to be backfiring as polling shows Trump with record approval levels and widespread support for reducing government.
Here is the column: Continue reading “Democrats Jump the Shark: The Latest Claims of a Constitutional Crisis Will Not Lead to “Happier Days””

Today, I have the pleasure of lecturing on my book, “The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,” as part of Stanford’s Classical Liberalism series. The seminar is open to members of the Stanford faculty. Continue reading “Turley to Speak at Stanford on “The Indispensable Right””
Despite a plethora of challenges, the Trump Administration is pushing ahead with its top-to-bottom review of government spending. It has already halted billions in what it views as wasteful spending. It now looks like one of the most wasteful, runaway public works projects in the country could be on the chopping block: California’s high-speed rail project. The project to build a bullet train from Los Angeles to Sacramento is an outrageous example of a public work that lacked any fiscal responsibility or oversight from the state government. Nevertheless, Democrats continue to push for billions more from the federal government as well as California taxpayers. Continue reading “Time to Bite the Bullet? Trump Administration Eyes Billions Going to California High-Speed Train”
Clearly, Dr. Steve Caudle of Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga is not the “turn-the-other-cheek” type of minister. Caudle called upon his flock to choose violence in responding to the policy changes in progress in Washington with the new Administration. It is a further escalation of the rage rhetoric from Democratic politicians and pundits. Continue reading ““Get Violent and Fight”: Tennessee Minister Defends Violence to Stop Trump”
Harvard has long been accused of fostering an anti-free speech environment and quelching viewpoint diversity. That was the subject of my recent debate with Law Professor Randall Kennedy at Harvard. A new report confirms many of the objections raised in that debate, including a chilling environment where only a third of Harvard’s most recent graduating class expressed comfort in discussing controversial subjects. Continue reading “Crimson Tide: Only One-Third of Harvard Students Feel Comfortable Speaking About Controversial Subjects”

Below is my column in The Hill on Musk-mania gripping Washington. Democrats are using Musk to double down on rage rhetoric and rallying supporters to “fight in the street” in a declared “war.” It is a familiar pattern for many of us.
Here is the column: Continue reading “The Making of Elon Musk: How the Left Makes Monsters of Us All”
The Trump administration made an interesting pivot on Friday in the major case on gender-transitioning legislation. The case involving the Tennessee ban on the use of puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender minors is expected to establish new and significant precedent in the area. The oral argument appeared to favor the state. The problem is that, if the Trump Administration were to withdraw its challenge, it would work against the interests of Tennessee and other states in seeking a final resolution before the Court. Accordingly, the Trump Administration created a type of Pushmi-Pullyu position: it renounced the Biden position and then retained the challenge by encouraging the Court to move forward with a final decision. Continue reading “The Pushmi-Pullyu: The Administration Renounces and Retains the Biden Challenge to Gender-Transitioning Law”
Democratic leaders continued to ramp up their “rage rhetoric” following the inauguration. We have already seen violent protests and planned assassinations directed against Trump Administration figures. Despite the growing tensions, Democrats are ratcheting up claims of a “coup” and calling for Democrats to “fight in the streets.” After failing to win the election with claims that Democracy would die if Trump is elected, Democrats are doubling down on rage politics to try to win over the public. The difference is that they are now focusing on Elon Musk rather than Donald Trump.
I was fortunate enough to be in West Palm Beach this weekend to receive the Samizdat Prize for Free Speech from RealClearPolitics. Leaving the cold and snow of Washington, the break from winter was rejuvenating. I wanted to share a few pictures of Florida sunrises from this uniquely beautiful place.
Washington Democrats are adding a fifth stage for confessions under a new law. If passed, examination, confession, absolution, and penance will be followed by arrest. The blatantly unconstitutional legislation would target priests who learn of any “reasonable” basis to believe that a child “has suffered abuse or neglect.” Putting aside the obvious violation of the sanctity of the confessional, it presents a novel problem for priests if they both encourage the faithful to unburden themselves while at the same time reminding them anything that they say can and will be used against them in a court of law. Last week, some of us discussed concerns over the demand of the Trump Administration for the names of all FBI agents involved in January 6th cases. While noting that we did not have all of the details, I wrote that this would be a critical test for the Administration between reform and revenge. Line FBI agents should not face punishment for carrying out the orders of their superiors or courts. Now, the Trump Administration has offered additional information, alleging an alarming defiance by a high-ranking official in sharing information. If true, the controversy involving Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll is reminiscent of the entirely improper conduct of former acting Attorney General Sally Yates. Below is my column on Fox.com on the bizarre controversy surrounding New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and his suggestion that he was housing an illegal migrant in his home. It is a new version of Murphy’s Law on how virtue signaling can turn into a virtual nightmare for Democrats over immigration.

This day had to come. I find myself with the inescapable view that Sen. Chuck Schumer is being treated unfairly. There, I said it. Edward R. Martin, Jr., the Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney, recently announced that he is investigating Schumer. The possible criminal charge is linked to Schumer’s infamous speech on the steps of the Supreme Court in March 2020, threatening justices with retaliation if they voted against abortion rights. I have repeatedly denounced Schumer for his “rage rhetoric” and his pandering to the most extreme elements of the party. However, a criminal investigation into the speech is unwarranted and unwise. Continue reading “In Defense (Gulp) of Chuck Schumer”
We have previously discussed cases (here, here, here, here, and here) of professors being fired or suspended for using offensive terms such as the n-word in discussions or tests. I have generally argued that such usage is protected on free speech and academic freedom grounds. Now, a federal judge has ruled against Ohio State University (OSU) in an important case involving former OSU Professor Mark Sullivan, who used the n-word in a class on dealing with offensive terms. Ironically, the class was called “Crucial Conversations,” but OSU was not particularly interested in what Professor Sullivan had to say.
