Saudi Arabian Father Forces 10-Year-Old Daughter To Return to 80-Year-Old Husband

150px-muslim_woman_in_yemenA ten-year-old girl found hiding in her aunt’s home was forcibly returned to her eighty-year-old husband by her father. While the man would be called a pedophile in the West, he is called a husband under Sharia law in Saudi Arabia and could rightfully demand the return of the child wife.

Saudi Arabian clerics have defended the practice of child brides as permitted under the Koran. (here and here).

Notably, the government has refused to prohibit the practice, even after the controversy of a marriage of a 47-year-old man and an eight year old girl.

These cases often involve daughters being sold to settle debts. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Shaikh has defended such marriages.

Courts will sometimes order that there should be no consummation until after a girl reached puberty. Since girls can reach puberty as early as nine, this reform means that men can have sex with nine and ten year old girls under reforms guaranteed to avoid abuse.

Mohammad is often accused by critics of being a pedophile due to his marriage to 6-year-old Aisha, which was consummated when she was 9.

Notably, in this case, the aunt stand accused of interfering with a valid marriage by giving shelter to the girl: “My marriage is not against Sharia. It included the elements of acceptance and response by the father of the bride.”

The story of another ten-year-old child bride’s struggle in Yemen is inspirational, but she continues to be exploited by her family even after her success in securing a divorce, here.

  1. Simply wrong and disgusting. She’s TEN. She should be playing with her friends and learning in school, not married off to some filthy old degenerate. Saudi Arabia is a culture run by barbarians let alone theocrats.

  2. Repulsive. Unfortunately with all the money the Saudis have, the Wahhabi doctrine, which is the harshest, and most literal interpretation, of the Koran, has been spreading like plague to other countries such as Pakistan, and Afghanistan. It will just get worse.

  3. Hey Don’t say this too loud. Isn’t the legal age to marry in Arkansas birth? Yes, you heard it here. They changed the code and said basically that a child may marry with parental consent:

“Right now (Aug. 18, 2007) Arkansas law says that ANY person who is not pregnant may marry in Arkansas at ANY age with parental permission! The mistakenly-worded law reads as follows: “In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage.” (The word “not” before “pregnant” was not supposed to be there.) This new law took effect July 31, 2007. Since the Arkansas legislature is adjourned through year end, the Governor may need to call a special session to correct the law.:

    Go Figure Gomer.

  4. First of all, we are not sure that prophet Muhammed(PBUH) married a girl of 8. She most probably was 12. Also at the time of the Prophet girls of 8 were more mature, both mentally and physically than todays girls. In todays world any man who marries an 10 year old girl is actually a pervert. This includes Saudi Men. God will punish these Saudi perverts, time will tell.As for these stupid Saudi Sheiks, they should look for another religion, as they are giving a bad name to Islam.
