Faith Groups Facing Liability Over Discriminatory Faith-Based Policies

thumb_election_scales1Faith organizations and individuals have increasingly been sued over their exclusion or discrimination against homosexuals based on their religious beliefs. As the federal and state governments enforce anti-discrimination policies, they are turning against religious organizations which exclude members based on what they view as immoral practices.

I have previously written about the dangers of anti-discrimination laws curtailing free exercise of religion, free speech, and free exercise, particularly after the 1983 Bob Jones decision.

The Washington Post has an interesting story on this issue about lawsuits in this area.

  1. mespo,

I happen to think the separation of church and state serves a twofold purpose, but I’ll hang my hat on the idea that it’s larger purpose is more about protecting government from religious extremism which, by the way, has been less than apparent in this ‘Republic’ for many years, now.

My earliest realizations came while watching the PTL Club with
Jim Baker back in the mid 70’s – having lived and gone to school in North Carolina – as a transplanted adolescent…

    Yikes!

When you take public funds, religious freedom ends precisely where discrimination begins. Now maybe the religious will see the purpose for the wall between church and state. Egads, it’s to protect the churches!! He who pays the piper calls the tunes.
