Speaking to the graduating class of U.S. Naval Academy, President Barack Obama told the graduates that the best way to protect our nation is to stand up to its principles. I discussed the detainee issue last night on this segment of Countdown.
President Obama stated: “We uphold our fundamental principles and values not just because we choose to, but because we swear to — not because they feel good, but because they help keep us safe, . . . When America strays from our values, it not only undermines the rule of law, it alienates us from our allies, it energizes our adversaries and it endangers our national security and the lives of our troops.”
If only the White House would match its actions to its rhetoric, this country would be able to regain our moral and legal leadership in this troubled world. He needs to guarantee a trial for all detainees and to investigate the U.S. torture program.

no need for jealousy. just remember the high taxes we endure and even with the blown real estate market the inflated housing costs.
there are days I’d give anything to be able to sell my house and move elsewhere — somewhere where you can buy 2500 sq ft on an acre for under a million. i’d even give up the waves for that, but our home lost $300k of assessed value last year. can’t afford to sell even if we did have a buyer.
so the water is still free and for now its plenty good enough.

I think that some of the day-trippers we have heard from today forget that this blog is a current affairs one, not exclusively a political one and that no one here (I think ) has any real power to excommunicate, fire, replace, appoint or place in stocks those who have opinions/ideas to which they themselves do not subscribe. It all makes for some hilarity
My favorite source for Supreme Court hilarity is a clever little piece of fiction, that I just finished last week…. how very prescient of me…. called Supreme Courtship by Christopher Buckley wherein a TV courtroom judge, a real looker from Texas, called Pepper Cartwright is chosen by a very unpopular self-imposed lame duck President to fill a vacancy on the Bench.
Good thing I finished it last week, too, because if I had not then today would not be nearly as much fun as its been.
