Happy Rosh Hashanah From Ahmadinejad: Holocaust is a “Lie” and Israel “Will Not Last Long”

225px-Mahmoud_AhmadinejadIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave his traditional Rosh Hashanah speech — effectively wishing Jews a Happy New Year by saying that they may not see another.

Ahmadinejad told worshippers at Tehran University that “[t]he pretext (Holocaust) for the creation of the Zionist regime (Israel) is false … It is a lie based on an unprovable and mythical claim” during the annual “Qods (Jerusalem) Day” rally. He reminded Iranians that “[c][/c]onfronting the Zionist regime is a national and religious duty.” Just in case anyone was making plans for next year, he warned “[t] his regime (Israel) will not last long. Do not tie your fate to it … This regime has no future. Its life has come to an end.”

Nice.

Just a note: he is coming to New York to visit the United Nations just in time for Yom Kippur.

  1. OMG who cares? Does anyone really think Iran is a threat to the United States? If they get a bomb what are going to do, throw it at us? Do you think France ever feels the need to negotiate a middle East peace treaty? Do you think people in Belize ever think, “Hmmmm…we have to do something about Iran”!

  2. Yes. Note how careful he was to use Ahmadinejad’s rant for a purpose — to argue that this is real anti-Semitism, and that it is dangerous to call other things anti-Semitism — things, presumably, like accusing American Jews of having “dual loyalty.”

Give him a Low Country accent, a false credential as an immigration lawyer, and an even more arrogant demeanor, and we could add him to the Republican delegation from South Carolina.

Iran has the same right to nuclear power as any other nation. If it decides it wants a nuclear weapon as a deterrent to other nuclear powers in the region that also is its right. When did the USA and Israel become the worlds policemen?

  5. I’m Mad in the Head is a maniac. Period. He will always be a menace, but he is not worth starting a war over. At least not until we have real evidence of Iran’s progress in making a nuke.

  6. The drumbeat to war with Iran continues.

It’s a good thing that China and Japan are rich enough to continue to loan us the cash we need to fund the empire.

  7. Much of what Americans are fed about the designs of the Iranians is propaganda, just as it was about Iraq. The war mongers are relentless. Ahmadinejad has never threatened Israel. This is a hoax. He speaks of the “Zionist regime” in the same way American officials speak of Castro’s regime in Cuba. To wish to see its collapse is not a wish for genocide. This is old news; http://www.mohammadmossadegh.com/news/rumor-of-the-century/ The warmongers never let facts or history stand in their way.

  8. Ah, but we can’t prove to him that the holocaust occurred. He’s like the Glenn Beck of foreign dictators, with his “[W]hat I feel like saying is, ‘Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.'” It’s akin to me asking Beck to prove he never murdered a box full of kittens on Christmas Day in 2004, or Ahmadinejad to prove that he didn’t steal the last election by not counting votes, making up results, and violently supressing any dissent. He can’t prove he’s really a duly elected leader.

  9. Mahmoud “The Dude” Ahmadinejad is just taking a page out of the Republican playbook: If you deny the truth long enough people will believe it. He tries to delegitimize claims of past attrocities toward the Jews for the purpose of garnering support for his agenda while deminishing Israels. Kinda’ like the Republicans are doing with our President

  10. Oh my, oh my he gives me the so warm fuzzies. I am so enthralled with him. I think he needs to visit: Russia, Germany and Poland and a number of other places that housed the POWs, Undesirables. He may have a chance at redeeming himself. But who knows.

  11. He himself will hopefully not last long.

And yet, he represents the Palestinian cause which still remains unresolved. As they draw ever closer to nuclear armament, it becomes more and more critical that the best and brightest minds focus on a solution the underlying cause.
