Woman Knocks Down the Pope At Christmas Mass

I thought that I could get through this day without an actual Christmas tort worth noting. However, an astonishing breach of security occurred Thursday night in the Vatican. Somehow a mentally unstable woman was able to jump the barriers in St. Peter’s Basilica and knock down Pope Benedict XVI as he walked down the main aisle to begin Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican.

The 82-year-old pope reportedly got up and was unhurt. He proceeded to give the full mass without referring to the incident.

So much for the Swiss Guard. The really hit their high mark with Innocent VIII in crushing the forces of the Duke of Milan.

The president with those gate crashers and now the pope:

  1. Why is it when someone assaults the Pope (or other leader) they are instantly characterized as ‘mentally unstable’? I mean, they don’t have her name but they can be sure she was mentally unstable. Yeah, right.

  2. @Jericho: Whereupon she will be immediately dragged out and stoned. …maybe she should target the Dalai Lama next instead.

  3. Now,THATS what I call a Christmas Miracle. Maybe like God is giving the Pope a little hint?

  4. rafflaw,

Good idea, but make certain to tip them with solid silver first! (I swear that guy looks like Nosteratu.)

  5. I am not sure if the Pope is more unstable than his alleged assailant. She may have been the smartest one in church last night!

Hmm, I just guess that if you are willing to throw the first stone then when the boulders get tossed back at you, you either learn to duck or get hit.

Is he responsible for his assignments as a youth? I think not. Is he responsible for an organization that did little to assist the Jews and unacceptable peoples? I think so. Do I feel that the organization profited off by the act of doing nothing to assist them, yes I do. Do I think that on of the reasons that the certain parts of the Vatican Library is closed to the general public because they still have stolen art work as a result of the pillaging, I do. Do I think that they control the Swiss banks and that is one reason that they still have numbered bank accounts? Yes….

  7. Sorry, Wayne. The Pope is fair comedy game. He assumed that risk when he put on the funny hat. Oh, and when he was born. “Suffer all the little children to be the butt of a joke at some point.” Carlin 24:7.

And once a Nazi, well, it’s a hard habit to break. I saw how John Paul II often put love and compassion before dogma. Just like Jesus would have done.

This Pope is no John Paul.

There are also several ways crazy people can defend the Pope.

  8. There are several ways crazy people can attack the Pope. One is by jumping a barrier and knocking him down. The other is by implying that he is a Nazi because of something done in his youth for which he had little control over.

  9. Maybe she wasn’t mentally unstable…she could have been expressing what she thinks of the Catholic Church’s attitude toward women. /snark off

  10. enoibob:

There surely has been a run of leaders under fire in Italy from disturbed persons. First, Silvio Berlusconi and now the Pope. Looks like a best out of three falls holiday to me.

  11. As an Aryan Youth he should have been prepared for it all. The Motherland is not amused. I suppose at his age he should not have to worry about fractures other than by his own creation.

FYI in order to become a Cardinal anymore it is based on the solvency of your Bishopric. Apparently you are more heavenly the more you have in the bank and can pay to Rome. Makes sense to me.
