This Dwarf May Kill You

Looking for something else to worry about, consider T Pyxidis . . . it may be the end to all of us.

Astronomers at Villanova University believe T Pyxidis is really two stars with one being a white dwarf that is sucking in gas and steadily growing. It will eventually explode and possibly end life on this planet. It is simply not known when. I am personally waiting on finishing my grading of the finals in anticipation that T Pyxidis will supply the ultimate curve.

  1. Thirty percenter back in 1977, you probably weren’t born yet John Holdren and James Hansen swore we were headed for the next ice age, it warmed. Then realizing it warmed they now go on to tell us about Global Warming, it’s cooling. I think this proves that without a doubt it’s climate change.

Hopefully you know who John Holdren and James Hansen are. I would suggest doing some research into their beliefs.

  2. ThirtyPercenter:

“Yea, it is cold. And it might be getting a hell of a lot colder too, thanks to global warming.”

I think you have the science summed up in 2 sentences. Excellent synopsis.

  3. You know, you’d think one day one of these global warming deniers might actually listen to the scientists who are studying the issue. If they did they’d know that global warming doesn’t necessarily mean the climate will be balmy and tropical.

In fact they’d know that most scientists are predicting the possibility of global warming causing another Ice Age.

The problem is the republicans are playing on the elementary school level ignorance out there that allows people to mock global warming science by saying things like “it sure is cold”.

Yea, it is cold. And it might be getting a hell of a lot colder too, thanks to global warming.

“Why do you think it’s so cold over land, dimwit? Cloud cover is increasing because of warm oceans.”

I think that some of the coldest days I ever experienced were ones with no cloud cover at all.

I believe that winter is due to the angle of the earth in relation to the sun.

And I would guess that there are many mechanisms for water vapour getting into the atmosphere.

I think we should start burning that trash so we can warm up.

No, keep it in the ground it’s much better for the water supply.

  6. Why do you think it’s so cold over land, dimwit? Cloud cover is increasing because of warm oceans. If you notice there is snow and precipitation everywhere. How does water vapor get in the air? Does God just put it there?

And what does this have to do with an exploding star?

  7. Although people are far to worried about warming and the Artic melting, more people die do to cold related deaths than hot.

  8. Here’s some really good advice to follow. I gave everyone the heads up a couple of weeks ago about the current Artic Blast. Florida has a small window for flurries after midnight tonight thru about 8 a.m. I think we ( U.S.) are headed for a tough 30-45 days looking at the latest long term forecast models. The thing that would be bad is if we get a short term warm up anytime soon, major floodings will occur.

They are freezing to death and in order to stay warm they are congregating around the water discharge of the power plants. Not only that in south Florida the Iguanas are falling out of the trees dead and there are rumors coming out of Ocala that the wild Rhesus monkeys are eating their young.

I think we should start burning that trash so we can warm up. I am freezing my Wasp ass off.

I heard that more Manatees are dying in Florida because of the cold than at any other time. Step aside power boats and hello Jack Frost.
