Sighting The Bible: Military Contractor Found Adding Biblical Citations to Weapons

ABC has a truly bizarre and disturbing story. Brian Ross reports that a military contractor has encoded hidden New Testament Bible passages on high-powered rifle sites. The contractor is Trijicon, which apparently confirmed the practice.

The biblical references appear as, in one case, 2COR4:6 — an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

The company received $660 million under a contract to supply 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps. It has other contracts with the Army.

U.S. regulations prohibits proselytizing of any religion. Moreover, such additions to military equipment should violate the contract which presumably did not ask for biblical citations with gun sights.

The use of biblical citations will only reaffirm the view of many that the U.S. went into Iraq and Afghanistan on a “crusade.” This view was magnified by Bush calling its a crusade and later citing Biblical passages to convince other leaders that this was a worthy, if not divinely ordained, effort. His subordinates appeared to keep Bush in a Biblical mindset by adding prominent quotations from the Bible in reports on the war, here.

In my view, this raises serious legal questions that should result in a review of this contract. As a minimum, the contractor should have to pay for the removal of the citations. We have to able to trust contractors not to carry out their hidden or religious agenda as part of a contract with the American people. Just imagine if these were citation to the Koran. If the company wishes to proselytize it should do so with theocratic governments. Perhaps the Swiss Guards that the Vatican need a few sights and citations.

  1. ahh yes Mespo.

Don’t forget to add the “LOL” to make sure your peers think you’re a cool cat.

  2. I think I’ll stay here and continue to address your lies until you either admit them, or go away.

  3. I got a better idea mespo.

How about you leave since you’re the one who has been proven to be a cheat and a liar?

  4. 30%’er:

The door is to your left. Please avoid a pratfall. I am laughing so hard I couldn’t take another one.

  5. This is the typical bigot.

    This is how it works.

It starts with ignorance. Ignorance about the group of people you are prejudiced against.

That ignorance when exposed as I did the other night, showing how utterly ignorant of the bible he condemns he is but also showing how utterly dishonest and morally bankrupt he is for deceptively editing verses to change their meanings, compels him to continue to try to conceal his own moral turpitude by shifting focus onto mocking me for being here.

    Never mind “hes here”.

    That doesn’t matter.

Never mind out of the two of us I am the only one actually addressing and even reposting the original comments in question to prove my points.

    Never mind all that.

Instead he simply slips in to launch personal attacks without any foundation other than his own morose “giggle factor” in an obvious attempt to discredit the facts I’ve presented.

    Ask yourself when he’s here insulting me;

    1. Why is he here?

    2. Why doesn’t he post a fact or two to shore up his personal attacks?

    3. Why does he point to my presence here yet ignores his own?

    4. Why doesn’t he confront the obvious editing of scripture he did that has now been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt?

  6. See how it works?

Don’t bother to address the actual lies.

Instead refer to them as if I couldn’t possibly be right (ignoring the fact that they are reprinted right in front of his nose) and that I must be mentally ill for bothering to be so detailed in exposing his ugly, prejudice, unwarranted attacks and outright deception in editing scriptures to change the meanings to fit his arguments.

Just vague generalities that in jovial company are backslapped and applauded to help conceal their lies which have been exposed now repeatedly.

Making vague dismissive slurs and insults without offering a shred of evidence is the sure sign of the dishonest man.

His own shame compels him to do so.

  7. Bdaman:

“I just have one question, do you have long conversations while looking in the mirror.”

    *****************

I am sure he does and the look is a loving one staring back from the silvered glass He also talks to things that aren’t really there, and … miracles of miracles … they talk back!

I am starting to like you bdaman; you can spot a nut at a hundred letter-spaces.

  8. Note he doesn’t deal with his being caught in a lie.

Note he doesn’t address his attacks on me that first night in the Robertson thread or his subsequent “VANISHING ACT” when caught cheating by editing scriptures to fit his position.

As I just got through predicting, he swims in like a little pilot fish, looking for a cheap shot and then exits, cowardly and without a shred of integrity.

  9. So we see as I predicted, in comes the little pilot fish mespo using the exact same taunts I predicted he would.

    No substance mind you.

He has no attention to detail, no facts to produce.

Just as he did that night in the Robertson thread, he dismisses the facts before him arbitrarily with juvenile insults and personal attacks with zero foundation to base them on other than my proclivity to respond to his and others attacks.

  10. Here is how Mespo posted the scripture.

“Jesus also wasn’t too fond of disrespectful brats either:

“Whoever curses father or mother shall die” (Mark 7:10 NAB)”

    And here is how the scripture actually reads;

    – Mark 7:10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death

  11. I just read the majority of your post and I must say, I don’t know how you did it, but you did, and very accurate as far as I can tell.

I just have one question, do you have long conversations while looking in the mirror.

  12. Here so we can see the character of this latest pilot fish to swim in to gobble up some loose chum….

    Observe.

  13. As I predicted only moments earlier, in comes drone number 2 to offer nothing but juvenile insults.

Mespo here of course is the one who edited scripture to fit his meaning.

Mespo here is of course the one who inundated me with a barrage of inquisition like questions only to “disappear” once his changing of scriptures was discovered.

  14. “Well I was leaving Mike. Forgive me to responding to the “last parting shots” tossed my way by people like mespo, who’s low moral character allows him to edit scripture to suit his attacks on the Christian faith.”

    *******************

“Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce anxiety, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by combinations of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). The symptoms of this anxiety disorder range from repetitive hand-washing and extensive hoarding to preoccupation with sexual, RELIGIOUS, or aggressive impulses.”

mespo lied; duh lied; Gyges led … everyone lied — except 30%’er naturally. That reminds me of my favorite parthenogenesis retort from Hitchens: “Which is more likely: That the whole natural order is suspended or that a Jewish minx should tell a lie?”

Bet I know how 30%’er comes out on this one?

  15. This is the sort of inane trivial hair splitting I’ve been confronted with since I first uttered a sincere and benign comment on Pat Robertson.

Nothing I said merited the responses I received.

Yet no one has yet to examine their own words and their own attacks on myself, my faith and the faith of millions.

Instead we have silly word games to detract and try to drag me down to defending against a thousand flies so I look like a flyswatter.

So they can say “gee 30, you sure post a lot” or “gee 30, you seem angry” or “gee 30, you said you were leaving”.

Juvenile games and erroneous nonsense designed to distort and muddy the facts.

  16. A game I see he’s still playing tonight.

But it didn’t work then and it won’t work now.

The word Christian is not an English word. It never was.

It was TRANSLATED into English long after the words meaning was well established.

  17. And the meaning of the word Christian as it first appeared was “follower of Christ”.

    Not “professed follower of Christ”.

So Gyges attempted to play a semantic game in order to justify bigotry and prejudiced remarks against Christians.

After all, if we can change the meaning of being a Christian into anyone who “professes” to be a Christian, then its easy to simply condemn Christians as a whole.

Its easy to say Robertson is a Christian and use his actions to make blanket statements about Christians.

Gyges did not want to hear the actual facts about the word, nor did he want to hear anything that defended the millions of Christians who do not engage in the ugly distortions of the faith.

He wanted to play a word game so as to “win a point”.

  18. But Gyges tried to claim the word was only 500 years old.

He did this to try to interject the word “Profess” into the definition. Since Websters uses that definition. See the idea is if someone “professing to be Christian” is indeed a valid definition of the word, then its easy to bash all Christians by pointing to the actions of those “professing” to be Christians but who do not follow any of the basic tenets of Christianity as defined in the gospels.

So we see the word is not 500 years old, but was first used in antiquity as early as the 1st century.
