Nathan Michael Wilkie, 19, has a curious rap sheet that now includes the offense of listening to rap. He was charged under a new law for the offense of offensive behavior for listening to music by underground rapper Kid Selzy on his car stereo.
Mr Wilkie was parked outside an Australian supermarket, waiting for his mother, when he was arrested. The police heard such lyrics as “shut your f—— mouth bitch, f—— motherf—–“. That was enough to establish that it was offensive and derogatory to females.
Mr Wilkie allegedly told officers: “You’re a joke, go do some real police work.” I am not sure he was entirely wrong, at least with regards to the law. This appears part of the steady assault on free speech under the guise of fighting discrimination, blasphemy, and hate speech (here).
Notably, Kid Selzy plans to attend the hearing in June. He insists that he did not intend the lyrics to be insulting to women and that it was just his opinion.

some contries take music more seriously than others. a friend in the army stationed in germany bought a tape of “nazereth” “hair of the dog” it didn’t include the song “love hurts”. i don’t know how they treated the everly brothers version of that song
Canadian Eh:
Especially”groupie removal duties!”
Thanks for the clarification, but the PROPS stand.
Remember, Jesus was just the messenger too, and he got his own religion. Oh wait, being Buddha you’re familiar with that whole line…
eniobob….
Absolutely we have first dibs….management and groupie removal duties!
Buddah….
There is nothing quite like loud angry music to cure a case of the cranky pants.
In all fairness, the props for my post go to the Beastie Boys. I am but the lowly messenger.
First, PROPS to AY and Budddah!
Second, one day I hope we live in a world where anyone who is offended about anything anyone else says or listens to can contact their local law enforcement office to report such offenses. A charge of “emotional distress” could be used, if one of discrimination, blasphemy and hate speech weren’t relevant.
It’s clear people need to be restricted in what they say, listen to and look at so that we may have a NICER society, more up to the standards set by the bourgeoisie. After all, they did attend the best schools and had the right friends. It’s all for the common good, you see.
roflmao
Uh.
Yeah. 😀 That’s it. A rap star in his forties.
I’m thinking I needed to be on that train a little earlier. Besides, I’m still cranky from so much moving that going on tour just isn’t going to happen.
Canadian Eh,you and I have first dibbs on these two “emcees” in our midst,AY&BIL for management oppurtunitys.
For you know that they will need trusted friends to handle their money and new found careers, and they will need us to keep all those”groupies”away.:-))
Buddah….
I’m thinking that you and AY should get together and have a rap challenge!
” Any word on how loud the music was? Call me a prude, but I think this might be relevant. ” – MC Scatia….

You’re Scheming On A Thing That’s Sabotage
“Wow AY, in an instant you’ve become a rapper…”
***************
Jazzy Jay AY is what I call ’em. Down?
Any word on how loud the music was? Call me a prude, but I think this might be relevant. Strange, though, that this arrest required a new law. Would this not be covered under a noise ordinance or some such law that’s been around a little longer? I know next to nothing about this. Is the difference between such older laws and this law is that they punish on the basis of volume where this new law punishes on the basis of content?
Wow AY, in an instant you’ve become a rapper….rhyme a few words, add in some cursing, and turn it up real loud…. you’ve got a platinum album in the making!
AY the “emcee”,that has a nice ring to it.:-))
Now were getting some where.
Arrest the man for listening to Rap.
As little as I care for rap,
this is crap,
the cops outta be bitch slapped
and made to stand in their own crap,
for not lettin this lil whitty boy listen to my rap.
repeat the above with a bad guitar player, bass guitar that knows two maybe three cords, good speaker, mix with a little week, some coke or crack, X and tell em that people love the music and they need to be heard 4 cars down on the radio with the bass booming.
All joking aside. This is crap. Why don’t they do it like they do in the US and arrest them for Noise Ordnance Violations. Then you are not censuring the content.
You can tell these cops they’re degrading to good policemen.
Any official involved here is probably degrading to me and sensible people all around.
