Happy Birthday America. Once again, we gather to celebrate tossing out that preening, prancing Hanover prig George III. Of course, this blog is the embodiment of everything that is noble and good in our country. It is here that we defend those rights that define us. If Thomas Paine were alive, he would be one of our regulars (after a lecture on our civility policy).
Tonight we will have our annual cookout and fireworks in McLean. I hope that all of our regulars have a wonderful time today. It may not seem much to get rid of this dandy below, but it was no small feat.
Lest we forget our later fight when the British returned, I give you Johnny Horton’s Battle of New Orleans:
Jonathan Turley

The Battle of New Orleans, in glorious STEREO! 🙂
James Madison would love Turley Blog!
May we ask Independence from what? on this day?
Happy Fourth Everyone!

“….for whom the [we] troll for….” Again!!
Also, I’d feel like I cheated you if I didn’t include some of the greatest American composer and insurance salesman, Charles Ives.

The phrase “smoke and mirrors” comes to mind today… Might as well enjoy the illusion while it lasts…
Gyges,
What usually works is to copy the url from the address bar. Embedding doesn’t seem to work at times.
Ahem, I’m having more problems with Youtube copying the wrong imbed code. Does anyone else have problems with this?
THIS is my favorite recording (not that there’s anything wrong with the Texas A&M)

We covered the piece heavily in my Score Reading and Analysis class (it was a grad. level class, and one of the Grad students was conducting it for a concert later that semester), and this was one of the recording the Head of the UNC band department pulled out.
eniobob,
You are correct and for that the blawg is ready for its next troll….for whom the [we] troll for….
JT,
You managed to post one of my favorite songs. My dad, who is the least musical persons I know, spent a few hours one day in the mountains teaching it to me.
My musical contribution is my favorite recording of William Schuman’s Chester

It does get a little hot sometimes,:=)) HAPPY 4th EVERYONE.
Happy 4th to all.
I’m going to spend the day with family eating burgers and dogs and trying to start political arguments about who we are. Thank goodness for the country that lets me do that without being hung or even arrested. Peace..
We will have a quiet 4th of July here. Later today I will go to the National Cemetery and visit my GGG-Grandfather, who was there at the beginning.

Joe Sobran is as close to a monarchist as you can get, except for William A. Rusher, the first publisher of the National Review.
Happy Fourth everyone, enjoy the fireworks!
“By today’s standards, King George III was a very mild tyrant indeed. He taxed his American colonists at a rate of only pennies per annum. His actual impact on their personal lives was trivial. He had arbitrary power over them in law and in principle, but in fact it was seldom exercised. If you compare his rule with that of today’s U.S. Government, you have to wonder why we celebrate our independence.”

Happy 4th to all!.
Elaine I am picturing Marblehead Harbor and the lobsters. Have been there and I am envious. Was supposed to be in Chicago, actually the suburbs, where they still have fireworks for the 4th, but our daughter came home for a week so going to Chicago next week.
