Hour of Power [Grab]: Robert Schuller Thrown Out Of Crystal Ministries

The Rev. Robert H. Schuller, 84, has been voted off the board for Crystal Cathedral Ministries, which he founded over 50 years ago. This follows an earlier move to oust his son, Robert A. Schuller. The ministry is in debt and rife with family divisions, including one over a required anti-gay marriage pledge demanded by his daughters.

The church has filed for bankruptcy and “owes about $7.5 million to unsecured creditors, many of whom are vendors for the cathedral’s ‘Glory of Christmas’ pageant.”
The demise of the church follows a long-standing fight with his daughters — another bizarre case of a religious institution run like a family business. In this case, Schuller found himself at odds with his daughters who seem to have created a modern King Lear for the televangelist world. “How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is To have a thankless child!” (King Lear, 1.4.312)

While Schuller designated his son to take over the church, the son was tossed out by his sisters and Sheila Schuller Coleman took control of the ministry. One of the issues was the son’s opposition to changing the church’s format and Coleman’s insistence that choir members sign a covenant acknowledging Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Her father opposed the pledge and has long been welcoming to all in the church. Schuller’s daughter, Carol Schuller Milner, supported her sister and they forced removal of her father.

As was said in King Lear: “Ingratitude, thou marble-hearted fiend, More hideous, when thou show’st thee in a child,Than the sea-monster.”

  1. “One of the issues was the son’s opposition to changing the church’s format and Coleman’s insistence that choir members to sign a covenant acknowledging Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

What about the camera operators and janitors?

  2. Gyges,

In a divisive class based mode of Christianity, janitors will be part of the “unclean” and “subservient” classes . . . and everyone knows camera operators are heathens and voyeurs.

On a more serious note, it is a little sad to see what has happened to Schuller’s ministry but more so the man himself. Like the Prof, I’ve always seen Schuller as an honest and inclusive actor in his practice which I have to respect. To see his children fall prey to divisiveness – let alone his daughters – must be a bitter pill indeed. Especially in the name of wrangling for control of the business seems to be paramount over continuing the inclusive practices of their father. There father who got the idea of inclusion over division from, oh, what’s his name . . .

  3. I always liked Dr. Schuller. He seemed to be a voice of reason in a public arena where intolerance and homophobia are in plentiful supply by his colleagues. I had heard his ministry had fallen on hard times. With this latest move by his daughters, I am afraid I am guilty of some rather uncharitable thoughts. They want to take the work of a kind man and turn his legacy into something hateful. Sad.

  4. The problem with being a prophet of anything is that invariably your disciples will distort your message to their own petty advantage. The problem with TV Ministries, despite the good of their founder, is that they inevitably fall prey to becoming wealth producing entities. Wealth producing entities of necessity must generate wealth axiomatically. When wealth becomes the goal the philosophy behind that goal must shift to meet its exigencies. In this instance the institution of marriage, given the branding needs in the evangelical Christian world, conflict with the beliefs of the founder. Ergo, the founder must go due to the needs of the business.

  5. You mean they don’t all live in mansions and say god never meant for me to be poor? I am aghast….

  6. Mike S., If this is indeed how distorted a prophet’s message gets in one generation one can only imaging what a couple of thousand years can do.

  7. Why do people see this as a decline in that church rather than an improvement? Mr. Schuller tried to be inoffensive to everyone, to maximize the wealth of the church. His daughters seem to have deposed him purely on grounds of religious principle— but being principled, they naturally are less financially successful.

And unless you really do think Mr. Schuller’s church was his church rather than God’s or the public’s, you shouldn’t complain about his daughters removing him from the board. It wasn’t his to give away.

  8. Yes they do….You believe in God and they Believe in Money….You can have one or the other…but you can’t have both….Its called fleecing the flock….

  9. Metro,

They are principled…they want money, you have there money….so give it up…and you will be saved…

  10. First Swaggert, then Haggard, and now Schuller on the ropes. Where will it end with these false prophets? At least Ernest Angely is still around as a beacon for the faithful.

  11. The Prof wrote, “another bizarre case of a religious institution run like a family business.”

Does he find it bizarre if a duck walks like a duck, or quacks like a duck? What else are most “churches” other than the business enterprise of an individual entrepreneur, a family business or a multi-national corporation? Not ALL churches are de facto private businesses, but in many cases they “by any other name would smell as sweet.” By any other name, they turn capital, labor and marketing into a “product” that generates a positive cash flow that benefits an individual or family.

Sorry to be so cynical, but in too many cases, res ipsa loquitur.

  12. Squabble amongst thy selves, oh sons and daughters. In the end Rupert Murdoch will own the church, the broadcast, and all of your wretched souls.

  13. I have news for you all

all religions are made up bullshit. there is no heaven or hell– all made up

  14. I’m basically anti-christian because it’s a lie. Rev Shuller senior, does seem
to be good natured and sincere. His daughters will run this place into the
How often does “christianity” seem to be about hate? I think it wears a cloak of “love” to hide the hate. Just your typical wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  15. The usual fakery by the usual ” charlatans “, and everyone proclaiming the ” Word of God “. I guess God doesn’t handle bankruptcy proceedings and leaves that to the courts. Maybe the ” Crystal Cathedral ” can be broken ointo shards, and then they can be strung on to necklaces and sold at garage sales to raise a few bucks for the ‘ poor ‘ Schuller family.

  18. Things seem to be in a mess inside, the runnig of the c/cathedral,religion and money dont mix, everything seems to be power crazy!Stick to religion, bring back robert jnr,in his early teachings.Peter.

  19. Rule number one you don’t have family running the church and/or preaching it usually causes problems.Rev.Dr.Robert is old and his mind does not act like it did and this was a cause of the problems too.Too many hang on too long.
He should have acted much sooner (too ‘old’-he hung on to ‘power’ too long) and had various ministers preach then decide just as other churches do.
The son had his own church and he should have stayed there.

As to Dr.Robert’s daughters? Females are not permitted to preach as it clearly says in the NT.”The pastor must be the husband of one wife” as Paul told Timothy and Titus in books by theri name -two young Elders when the church was receiving instructions form the inspired aspotles. It was clearly not a female position! Each has their own duties in the church, inspite of ‘modern’ thouhht.
‘Reap and sow ‘is for all no matter what their status is in life.

  20. I have just learned of all the behind-the-scene events that have caused problems at the Hour of Power, and I am deeply saddened.
I have watched this program for years, along with my mother, who is not longer here. Robert Schuller Sr.’s sermons were always so positive and uplifting. The ending benediction he gave every Sunday, I have posted on my refrigerator. The guests he had that gave witness to their own beliefs in Jesus and how they were changed, were also very uplifting. Dr. Schuller was sincere in every sense of the word, and to see his life’s work, and all that he built up by his faith, be torn down by his own family is quite heart-wrenching. It is very hard to believe that the behavior of his daughters comes from anything that they learned growing up in that household. It seems that they are the ones more interested in power than their father ever was, and I really don’t think this has anything to do with money. I guess you can’t always see what’s coming if you are too close to it. My prayers go out to all of them.

  21. I do not tune in any more and I would appreciate it if my name be taken off what is now a sucker list. Any further mail I get goes into the garbage. Ousting Doctor Shuller is a complete travesty. I’ll be glad when it goes off the air.
    Joseph C.MacVittie,North Syracuse,N.Y.

  22. Wow! I feel really bad for Dr Schuller and his son. I totally believe in equality and I don’t believe that anyone has the right to judge another. If you want to go by the bible, remember what Jesus said, “He said “Keep my commandment, my commandment is love”. It doesn’t sound to me that there is a lot of love going around right now. I really believe that Dr Schueller and Rev Michael Schuller were prime examples of ministers showing love. And in terms of money and finances, Hello Everyone, it costs money to run a ministry and more especially to bring a TV ministry to so many people who are not able to travel to a church, or who are alone. I thank you Dr Schuller and Your Son for bringing your ministry into my home for so many years. I am praying for you and for your family unity. Remember the story of Job. Jennifer Phillips-Renwick Arnprior Ontario Canada

  23. So disappointed in the Schuller family. I have watched Hour of Power for many years, and my mother as well, when she was alive. I miss Rev. Robert Schuller’s sermons. He helped me so much. Robert, Jr. was okay, but Sheila Schuller is more like a Sunday school teacher. I miss the large choir singing the beautiful hymns. I will be watching another church telecast so that I will get a better uplift and have what I have been missing since these changes have taken place with the Hour of Power and the Schuller family.

  24. I completely agree that women do not belong as ministers they may be great teachers or examples of morality -where is honor your father and mother the requests for money and all the give aways-fancy display of so called memorials was going too far the little cracks of power and greed
finally brought the walls down-I gave a lot of money over the years for the eagles etc. and have been drawn into believing it was what pleased God I cannot point to anyone else Never mention SIN just think positive and God will turn into Santa . I do feel sorry for Dr. Schuller I believe he was sincere when he started but got caught up in the show and the response he was getting his daughters have now made a mockery of it all-I will pray for them all and especially for Arvella how she must be hurting

  25. The word is: Jesus came to save us from our sins. We are to repent, and follow Christ. Yes, we all are sinners, some of us saved by grace. That is the positive message. I too listened to Hour of Power for years and enjoyed the beautiful music, and the testimonies of others who had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and what He had wrought in their life. However, I ceased for a long tim something wasn’t right, even though I embraced Schuller son and daughter as they tried to hold together a ministry that apparently had “Ichabod” written over the door. But, not knowing the plan of God, I pray that the situation will turn around and God will restore the ministry as He wants. Get self out of the way, and let the Lord finish His work

  26. I truly feel a lot of sadness for Dr. Schuller and Robert jr. I have for a long time been asking myself where did Robert A. go, This is very sad. I also pity Mrs. Dr. Schuller and comfort her that her sacrifice and services towards the growth of music in the cathedral are not wasted and God will reward her and her husband. I stopped watching the Hour of Power when the lady came in. I saw Robert and his wife being anointed to take over the running of the church and was very happy, but when the lady came, I somehow lost interest. I will always be faithful to what Schuller Sr and Jr. taught me. GOD BLESS THE SCHULLER FAMILY

  27. I was born in a Muslim family…though I was not religious at all I liked Dr schuller’s encompassing mostly universal message ,,,,,as I grew. married and had my own children, his program was one of the weekly religious program we watched with enthusiasm …..who dares to say he knows God. I believe we all have religion, faith in one form or another…mostly divisive (I am right you are wrong, …you are lost and I am found) all of which is mostly just a business and has very little to do with God. Dr schuller’s good intention, good heart…a loving and accepting heart with his possibility thinking teachings was a very a force bringing people of all race & creed together and that was the genius just like today’s young Joel Osteen. to me, it is shame what has happened after 50 years of hard work ….these ladies ruined father and son relation, ruined their relation with their father and ruined the the most well known & respected church in the world to the ground . what do we learn from this?????

  28. I first saw the Hour of Power in 1984 on AFN Frankfurt in Germany, when it was not televised on cable- or Air-TV for Germans already. It was uplifting and very exciting to see this christian program, which was so pleasantly different to what we had in Europe and in my catholic church. Later on we as a familiy got the HOP on CNN weekly and we truely loved it and read Dr. Schullers books. Dr. R.H. Schuller is an honest man with high integrity and decency-and also was his son R. A. Schuller. What happened since 2008 is a shame and ruined the lifetime work of an honest man and a great idea. I am afraid that HOP will vanish from tv-screens soon. I cannot believe, that this is Gods intention, but the greedy Schuller ladies/familiy made it possible. Unbelievable.

  29. When Moses was standing before God on the mount and asked God, “Who shall I say sent me,” God said to Moses, say that ‘I AM’ sent you. “I AM THAT I AM HAS SENT YOU.” So, any time we say I am sick, or I am tired, or I am happy, we are actually saying God Is. So I can truly say that I AM truly saddened by the ousting fof Robert Schuller.

What an incredible loss for all of humanity. He literally saved my life and countless others with his ministry. May God have mercy on the people who insltigated this outrage.

  30. Dr Schuller, you are a great, great man. My soul weeps for the pain you must feel.

God has a special place in heaven for people like you. God Bless you Sir.

  31. Too bad the girls in the family too over the ministry. It was a big mistake
when they hired the music director – that is when their music changed..
I loved Dr. Schuller and his son Robert. I wish he could have stayed.

  32. Carrol jeanne ogdnDr. Schiller
I am so sorry for all of your problems, it must be the worst thing that can happen.. I met you, my dream came true in 1992. I fell your pain and arvella, I have a broken family and my only daughter did, also my husband was killed in auto accident, that was all in the same year.

  34. Dr. Schiller
I feel your pain as I also have 2 sons that are or have deserted from me their mother, my other child, a daughter died @ age 40. I have kept my sons in my heart but dismissed them from my mind. You have helped me over the years and I love and thank you for that. I wanted you to know that I am praying for you and arvella..
God loves you and so do i

  35. Bring back Robert A. Schuller (the son), and you will bring back thousands of us who have enjoyed the Hour of Power for many years. This would be a simple way of undoing all the damage brought by the Schuller women. APW

  36. Wrong bring Back Dr. Robert h. Schuller, I have know Dr schuller for many years, nothing is wrong withhis mind, spirit, positive thinking. You all have done a horribledisjustice to a wonderal man. I also know arvella, a finer woman. I love these people and I am in distress myself.

    Carrol Jeanne ogden

  37. My husband, our grown children and I love Dr. Schuller, his wife and sons. We are so saddened for the family. As Christians, we need to pray for them because that if our responsibility. God knows exactly what as happened. We are not to be judgemental as we don’t know the facts. God knows the family members hearts. Thank you Dr. Schuller and may God heal your family. You have been such an important and faithful servant to our Heavenly FAther and to your church family. We were blessed to have met you and your son in Sarasota, Fl. Your words and prayers have helped our family through countless struggles. Thank You.

  38. I am a Hindu and I loved Dr Robert Schuller and his son. I live in Australia and for years would get up at 5 am and listen with an open mind. His messages were from the heart and I sincerely believed that he was a messenger of God. Listening to him on a Sunday morning brightened my entire week. He is going to be missed. Was it not Eve who was the first to deceive God and convinced Adam to eat of the apple? They say behind every successful man there is a women which I totally disagree with, i think behind every major failure is a power hungry and greedy woman. I may be completely wrong but from what i read, These daughters according to what i have read, of Dr. Schuller brought down a good caring ministry. They thought they could do better and it did not last. The messages from his daughter was boring, meaningless, and felt like something that has gone back to old times of uninteresting sermons. According to a spiritual leader I heard, Most women are not leaders they are mothers and wives who should faithfully stand behind men by supporting them, not take on a leadership role because it is not written anywhere, not even in spiritual books of any denomination, religious belief or spiritual order to be spiritual leaders. Why has Lord Jesus chooses 12 men as disciples and not women. What frustrates me is that a good leader and his son gone to ruins. Someone that gave us hope, promise of a better life through the teaching in the Bible, is now no more. I cannot imagine the sadness that surrounds this beautiful man and his son. I think of the hard work that he has put into a dream that has been shuttered by egos and power hungry people. Well as a Hindu I believe in Karma and we will all be alive to see the workings of God return.

  39. Dr Robert Schuller and your son are missed but glad to see your grandson preaching sermons at the crystal Cathedral shame on your daughters on what they did pushing you out of the ministries you should push them out of your life too no childern should treat there parents like that after all they were brought up though the church hope to see you Dr Schuller preach one day again in the pulput at the crystal cathedral as a guest preacher regard to you and your wife as well Dr robert jnr too

  40. I would love to see Rev. Robert Schuller and his son back in the ministry. We need some positive messages back, the world needs it. People of every religious group, Hindu, Bhuddist, Islam, Jewish, etc listen to his messages not only Christian. He was a people’s teacher. He made a difference to the world. When are those on the board going to open their eyes? They say it is worse to be spiritually blind than physically blind. I am waiting for the day of his return. We miss you Rev. Schuller.

  41. God has created all that is including laws. God should not be included in this which has been created by egoist, power hungry women. Dr Schuller was an innocent man with good intentions.

  42. It was truly a shame to take the church from Dr. Schuler. I have faithfully watched this church since 2001 and received much strength and encouragement from this man and his son, Robert A. Robert A also filled the church and provided much guidance in faith. Now the church might have a chance to return to full strength with the help of Bobby Schuler. I hope the powers that be are not foolish and remove his presence. Try to bring Robert A back and watch the church grow even more. My prayers are with you Dr. Schiuller and Arvella. God will reward you and find a way to ease the pain of thje betrayal of your daughters.

  43. Well said, I could not agree more. Bring back Dr Robert Schuller and his son. What also surprises me is the level of intelligence of the board. What are they thinking is the greatest mystery. Prayers won’t help if we have boofheads making silly decisions. I refrain from insults but I am so upset with what they have done to this God sent of a man. Lord Jesus was betrayed by one man and denied by the others so it does not surprise me that close family betrays the father and the board denies Dr Schuller. Imagine what would they have done to Jesus if He came back.

  44. If a Hindu can listen to Robert Schuller for years and remain a Hindu, then I would say that Robert Schuller never preached the true Gospel of Christ, Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father (God) except through me’

  45. Jesus also taught tolerance. That tolerance and acceptance of people “where they are, and how they are” is the basis of Love. Without Love, what is the point of even experiencing life.

Dr. Schuller, I am so sorry you are having to go thru this. You deserve so much more.

  46. Hello Christine Brooks, having a connection with God has got nothing to do with the type of religion you belong to, it is about you as a person. Changing your heart for the better is the way to God, it is not the religion you belong to. I know of many non believers of God who are better behaved, more tolerant, giving, forgiving and compassionate than many so called Christians, Hindus, Moslems.

When Lord Jesus said, ( if those were His words and this I would seriously question) “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one gets to the Father but by Me.” what was he saying? Think deeply about it. The human being is made up of three major parts namely body, mind and spirit. The IAM that Lord Jesus was referring to is God. Only God is Truth, God is life in each human being. There is only one way to God and that is through God Self. So this must be read “God is the Way, Truth and the Life. No one will get to God but by only God.

The I in the Human being is the personality, the individual characteristics  and the ego. When Lord Jesus spoke about Himself, He was not referring to His ego or His personality. This is because Jesus was not the body or the mind. The body and mind is used for this third dimensional plane of existance. Simple we cannot live in this Earth plane without a physical body and mind.  There is so much misinterpretation about the Lord’s Word that no one knows the Truth about anything anymore. Most are guesses and piles and piles of interpretations. Also much is lost in translations.

Hinduism goes back 40,000 years. Christianity is 2000 years. So tell me what happened to those who lived all those years prior to the coming of Lord Jesus. Are they all in Hell. I do not see that anywhere in the Holy Bible which I have a great respect for. Jesus has mentioned in the Bible that we must not Judge.

Early Christians believed the Earth was Flat, when Hindus knew thousands of years before it was round. Hindus believed that Rock and plants have life. It is only now through science we discovered that rock has life. Hindus always believed in Karma, now the modern religions are latching on to it as something that works. A major part of the Hindus religion is meditation, only now it is becoming wide spread and used to cure people of major illnesses.

I could go on enlightening you but I know it is a waste of energy. How can one understand university Maths if one only understand primary school Maths. One has to firstly pass basic maths, then learn high school Maths before one can advance to university Maths. In the same way we need to discover ourselves before ywe understand God and what He really said.

Hindus see God in Everything, that is the reason why they proclaim God is omnipresent. We have been laughed at for praying before statues. What Our critics do not understand is that we know that the omnipresent God is in the statue. In science we have now discovered that beyond the subatomic particles is just energy. That energy is God and God is in everything. This is what we mean by omnipresent.  God is contained in the subatomic particles and beyond.

Hindus say God is omnipotent. This is because we believe as written in the Lord’s Prayer, ‘For Thine is the Power’ God is All powerful and there is no other power greater or more powerful than God. Hindus also believe that God is omniscient which means God is contained in every atom, subatomic particle and beyond. This is what makes God all knowing.

Coming back to your comment about not converting to Christainity, why would I shift to something new when I have something that is 40000 years old in tradition, had made me to respect all religions, love God with all my heart, mind and strength and works. I liked Dr Shuller for his positive messages and what is important at no time did he tell me to become a Christian. Dr Shuller also said recently that he believes that there are many ways to God not only through Christianity.

Lord Jesus spent 13 years of his life in India, those are the missing years of Jesus and the Bible has no record of the missing years of Jesus. It remains a mystery because it will tumble the cart of Christianity if it was openly exposed. Jesus’s uncle was a camel trader that used to travel India to trade. When Jesus was in his early teens he asked Mary, Jesus mother if he could take Jesus on his travels to India. She allowed him to take Jesus. It is in Bible, read it. Jesus spent a lot time with Yogis in the Himalayas. There are records of Jesus in India living amongst the Yogis.  As you sow so shall you reap is karma.

There is a lot we all have to learn from each other as long as we are prepared to listen or you will have to come back many lifetimes to learn. Take time and see the reincarnation stories on Utube. Also there is much more to this life than what meets the eye. If believe that only Christians go to God then I believe this life time has been wasted.

  47. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKxAd_XBF9Y&feature=related Greetings Deena Naidu in Jesus Name. Thank you for your comments, I appreciate where you are coming from as a Hindu believer. I have in the past, in my search for the Truth, taken the time to study various eastern religions, so I do understand some of what you are saying. I eventually came to the end of my search some 34yrs ago when I accepted Jesus’s forgiveness of my sins and His free gift of salvation, a decision I am thankful I made every day of my life. I have posted a youtube link that explains the way to a relationship with the Almighty God, our Lord Jesus,it is very simple God made it that way, so that even a little child can understand. I would in love encourage you to have a look, it will only take a few moments of your time, but it’s effects will last an eternity. Blessings to you!

  48. Hello Christine. Thank you for your reply. You have found your path and i have found mine. I already had great personal experiences with Jesus whom I have great love for, However I have found my path and it will lead me to God. I have had experiences with God and i am satisfied beyond doubt I have found my path. I will not change for anyone, only if God asked informed me that I need to change religion, so far God has not done so. I have listen to many Christains and they all fight with each other claiming theirs is the only way and that their Bible has the right translation. Maybe if you all come together as ONE then maybe it will be an example for the whole world to follow. How can you ever find peace when you do not have it amongst yourselves Christians. If i ever had to change religion it would be Bhuddism. Be happy in your believe and leave the rest of us to believe in what we believe that is one way of tolerance. In a group discussion with four different christain groups once, it was a verbal war. I had to step outside for a breath of fresh air. The energy was so intense I thought they were going to injure each other. The amazing thing is that they say they have found Christ and have got salvation yet don’t seem to have found peace. When you can see God in everyone and everything then that is the day you are saved. I have never been happier, I look, feel, touch, hear, taste and breath at God everyday, i see him all around me and in me. What else is there. There is only God, nothing else exists but God, what you do not experience as God is just an illusion and your own ego.
Jesus clearly explained why I experience things different to those people like yourself that has not yet got it. I am more than satisfield I have found my path. Thank you for your email.

  50. So sad. I have had encouragement for years from the sermons and books of Robert H.
The late Norman Vincent Peale had been my source of positive thinking before I had heard Hour of Power. Fortunately I don’t have to rely on guidance from the offspring. Of course the new testament is a marvelous source of positive thinking!I
It seems the whole family needs to practice what’s been preached by their father.

  52. I missed your services so much Dr Schuller. I am not a very religous person but I loved to watch you on tv each week. Listening to the music and to your message helped me a lot. We have similar troubles in my family. I have not been able to see my granddaughters for five years. Jealousy is a very bad thing but I have a wonderful grandson who fills my life with joy. He has autism and needs our care. These things are sent to try us Dr Schuller but I
know your faith will help you and I hope to hear you again soon.
Love to you and your lovely wife. Barbara

  53. I have watched the Hour of Power for 40 years. Loved it and the great music. I was in Los Angeles for Music Convention when the Crystal Cathedral was officially dedicated. I went in at noon and saw how beautiful it is. I even played the piano in the old church and hoped one day to play that million dollar organ. I am a retired cathedral organist. I love the books and have ordered some for my children. The Hour of Power will fade away I am afraid but it did so much good and the soul keeps it. Am sending my children books. God bless you all. R. Gibbens Robichaux of Thibodaux, La.

  54. Dr Schuller and family, my prayers are with you all and we as the public don’t really know the root causes of the problems you are faced with.Nevertheless, as I have read practically all Dr Schullers books and hearing most of his sermons over the years, it is conspicuous that God has called him for His purpose. I just think that the storm that has come against the ministry is God sent—not to destroy, but to rebuild as the season has changed for the ministry. Jesus is building His church and has come to visit the foundations of the church that has been tampered with. A skilled surfer must know how to ride a wave, but must also know when to get off a wave.
I also think that the congregation need to included in the decision making as they are the greater voice–without a vision the people will perish and without the people the vision will perish. Members of the congregation need to have a public meeting with the leadership and voice their hearts.
Question: Where are the son-in-laws that seem to be silent in the matter that their wives are in control of?
Also wisdom says: In the counsel of many there is safety. How about calling for help from anointed, wise men of God that can help solve your problems. Dr Schuller has many friends in ministry that has helped him the past like Dr Yongi Cho who baptised him in the Holy Ghost in the time of great pain in his family tragedy.
    God bless,
    Rev Dr Robert Ross,South Africa

  55. Do you mind if I quote a few of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your blog?
My website is in the very same niche as yours and my
visitors would really benefit from a lot of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this ok with you. Thanks!

  56. Christian Sermons at most times are great. I went to a few that were just critiquing other groups as well as religions. I think to create a higher vibration, create hope, make people take a positive path it is very good. There are many things missing in these sermons, the truth about what lies beyond this life. What are we all aiming for, what is beyond heaven or hell. Is that the end or are we all evolving to the highest state. Is God a man, woman, energy. Does God travel? If God truly is Omnipresent what form does God take? If God is energy is there place for any other forms of energies? Is God only good or allows the Godself to play all roles? There are many questions and no one seems to answer. Are we just learning at these sermons a primary level of understanding? Is there a higher level of understanding that we are not ready for and beyound that an advance level of understanding. I think Lord Jesus did say according to the Bible that there were things that He could not speak off as people were not ready to know. Are we that people? Many Preachers and priests alike have no understanding beyond what they read. It seems they get their understanding from within a closed box. I love Jesus, His words, His life, but it stops short for me and does not give me the answers I really want. I do not believe that this life ends begins at birth and ends at death. I do not believe that we go to heaven or hell and stay there forever. I do not believe that God decides our destiny. I do not believe that that the Bible is a rule book but a guide to a better way of living. I believe that there is much more to life than what meets the eye. I believe that if we search deep enough God will guide us to those who know. Reading Peter Richlieu books called the ‘Soul’s Journey’ was one of the best things I have done. Many leaders love money more than God and they stand on platforms telling us how to love God.

  57. The star of the show is gone, the replacements are not up to snuff. Oh my, and I thought that Jesus Christ was the star. I was wrong. In all protestant churches is protest. Against what? THE church. Jesus only set up one. And the gates of hell have not prevailed against it in 2000 years. Oh by the way I have watched Hour of Power for over 30 years. Been there more than once, and like both Sr. and Jr. and Jr. Jr. But always needed more. The Holy Eucharistic. Though Shiella was a whole nother story. And yes women cannot be preachers, priests or bishops. Oh sure just go against Christ and do your own thing, cause your in protest against THE church Christ established. Oh Martin Luther, what have you done……….

  58. Jesus said, your enemies will be that of your own household, but he still expects us to love them, he also said, bless those who persecute and hate you and I will bless you, he said do not judge, and he who does not forgive will not be forgiven, so I believe that true to the man I think Robert schuller is, he is forgiving his family and leaving the judgement to GOD, he will have a very special place in heaven if that is how he is dealing with it, Jesus also said I go to prepare a place for you, in his case if he is the man of integrity that I believe him to be, his place will be wonderful, beauty for ashes.

When someone goes through something as painful as this, and they survive it through God’s grace of strength , healing and restoration they are referred to as saintly, let us not get caught up in critical judgment, that is reserved for God, let us pray for ALL of them, the last word belongs to God, he said , my word shall not come back to void, it is truth and effectual.

  59. Rev. Schuller sr. has had on going Alzheimers for the past few years and needed to retire. He had already chosen his son Robert to replace him but the sisters and their husbands interfered and when Robert jr. did not agree they convinced their confused father to have their brother leave. It is a sad story but God was in the works when Bobby Schuller was voted as a their pastor. He is a terrific young man with always a positive sermon and faith centered. They will be going to a new building and I pray somehow they will be able to broadcast the services. It is not about a building but about sharing the good news of the gospel and worshipping together.

  60. Certainly will miss your ministry. Wonderful father and Son Ministry.
May god bless yourself, your wife and wonderful speaking and dedicated Son. From Canada.

  61. When money becomes the focus and grabbing a daily business…then the end will be there. Now the Catholic Church will take over the complete building and will start to become a world-wide TV church…. and will address lots of people…. What has been the true believe?

  62. Churches have become corporate businesses. You cannot serve two masters God and money. They have little interest in God or humanity. Jesus as well as Bhudda were beggars. They depended on others to feed them. Today churches have CEOs earning millions. I often wonder how would they explain themselves in the presence of God. Maybe they don’t really believe in God, it is just means of earning money, popularity and a great boost of their egos.

Many years ago I worked for a disability service and a young client of ours wanted employment in administration work. So I approached a church whose income ranges from two to five million a weekend to assist. The process was shocking. I had to go though was as you can imagine not easy. It ended up with the board of directors saying they cannot assist as they do more than enough for the community. I never read in the Bible Jesus ever saying this. Two weeks later I received a call from the Pastor who asked me to come immediately. I thought that it was a change of heart, only to learn from him that they are applying to the Government for more money and they need to prove in writing they have a partner ship with a disability service. So this man had the hide to ask me for a letter acknowledging a partnership. This is one of the biggest churches in the country.

  64. I cannot believe some fo the comments regarding scripture that is about having one wife – well that probably means that they only have one at a time unlike the harems of days past….does not refer to one not being able to serve because they have been divorced….but think what you will. And about women not preaching you need to read more than what you use to defend the position that women can teach but not preach – well where is the line drawn between teaching and preaching. Jesus sent out women so I think not much has changed, He still sends out women today.

  65. i have been fortunate to be able to listen to Dr Schuller’s uplifting messages for years. Every Sunday I have taken something positive from them that has helped me through the week. Never mind the religion, listen to the message. Robert Schuller Junior came across hollow and unconvincing, and when the daughters took over it became a farce and I stopped listening.
But hooray, now that Bobby has taken over, a new positive light shines on the ministry. Young Bobby will surely surpass his grandfather in effectively conveying positive and uplifting messages to those who care to listen. He is a lovely young man and quite inspiring. Poor chap, had to suffer the indignity of moving out of the ‘Big House’ into the ‘barn’, but nonetheless his undoubted charisma carried him along and will help him do very well.

  66. Good for the daughters, who were trying to stand for the Bible,,,something that has been lost in our modern times.Pastor Bobby better get out of the Reformed church or he will go down as well,,cause the Reformed church is against Israel..as well as many modern apostate churches. Gen. 12:3 teaches that God will bless those who bless Israel…But. he will curse those who curse Israel..many churches invite sodomites. Gays in the congregation. Which we should all sinners are welcome,, but people should repent and turn from sin…that’s the difference. These churches are not calling anything sin anymore. Read gal.1:8 and revelation 22:18-19

  67. The only thing shuller had to do is to go back to the Bible and stop to mix religions who don’t accept Christ as sun of God, and stop to accept sin in the church. I heve respect for his grand son who is preaching Christ today as the only way to God and as the only Saviour. The others, I must thing on Salomon.

  68. Having read this I thought it was extremely informative.

I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this short article together.
I once again find myself personally spending
a significant amount of time both reading and commenting.

But so what, it was still worthwhile!

  69. iI have been listening to Rev Dr Schuller for over25 years, have quite a few of his books and I miss his Sunday morning program bein a Roman Catholic,
his words would inspire me for the coming week of problems. God bless you
Rev Schuller in the illness facing you now with the loss of your wife recently .

  70. You have your facts wrong in your post: Hour of Power [Grab]: Robert Schuller Thrown Out Of Crystal Ministries 1, July 5, 2011. Please double check the names in the story. Carol Schuller Milner had no involvement in the running of the ministry. Also, your account is very incomplete, dated, and based on biased media accounts. But, there are a lot of wonderful comments – Dr. Schuller and I thank you. Carol

  71. Show us how we were wrong so we can learn. There is great concern from all of us, that is the reason we write. It is because we care and love Dr. Schuller. Even if it takes you a day to write, do it. Who was responsible for the way things have gone the way it did. We like to know. We eagerly wait your reply.
