There is a horrific Dutch story out this week. In the 1950s, a boy named Henk Heithuis came forward to allege abuse by priests. He was interviewed, put into a Catholic psychiatric facility, and then castrated to cure him of his homosexual tendencies.
The boy was sixteen years old and there are indications of 10 other such cases.
However, none of these cases were mentioned in a recent report on abuse by priests in the country. The so-called Deetman Committee set up by the Church says that they did not mention any of the cases because of “few leads for further research.”
The report is being criticized for this and other omissions. Notably, Vic Marijnen was the chairman of the children’s home where Henk Heithuis and dozens of other children were abused until 1959. He later became prime minister.

The above, from the Dutch News link in the article, is a healthy sign, I (as Gene alluded in his last posting) was just struck mute by this article. The dark ages were not so long ago in the Church’s thinking it would seem.

Monsters who were members of an exalted club who had been getting away with the same sort of thing for centuries?
Monsters who were members of an exclusive club who claimed that they spoke for, and spoke with, the only God of the Universe, and, as absurd as that actually is, were believed to be speaking the truth by virtually everyone.
Oh yeah – and the seventies, don’t forget the atheist hippies in the seventies – they are to blame. ;(
I’d say this all goes to show that the church is more important than the people that is supposed to minister to. It is a truly a horrific story. What kind of monsters would do such a thing to young boys?
One issue here is justice or another form of justice, revenge: The persons who perpetrated this are probably dead. It the victim is alive he can sue the church or go outside the legal bounds and seek revenge. He simply adorns himself with a small name plate with the word Lord printed on it. Vengence is ming, sayeth the Lord is his justification. He then goes to some church which has a pedophilie in residene–and there are many– and castrates the guy at gunpoint. Stitch him up with a Rosary.
And, if you are a dog, you know where the best place for your dog pack to poop is on Saturday night when you guys are out rompin. Leave some fresh ones for the pedophiles and those who look up to them.

It was CIA mercenaries who did the killings at 3 seperate villages outside Kandahar of 16 civilians, according to Afganistan parliament investigation on the spot. Slugs from different weapons were recovered.

The Dutch are monsters!!!!
This is so disturbing that I don’t even want to comment more on it. Organized religion, no matter which one, is organized hypocrisy.
At least the victims can feel free to come forward now, and there is plenty of understanding help available. Previously, victims often committed suicide or were institutionalized. The good old days were not really the good old days.
Cheney would be my choice for priest.

My great-grandmother was forced to come to America – alone – as a 16 year old after she became pregnant by the village priest. But that was the mid 19th century. I’m sure such things could never happen now . . . .
