Report: U.S. Buried Knowledge of Katyn Massacre During World War II

New declassified intelligence files show that the United States government lied about its knowledge of the Katyn massacre of Polish officers and intellectuals by Russia. The new evidence includes the disclosure that the Roosevelt Administration received highly credible coded messages from U.S. officers who were American POWs during the war but suppressed the information to preserve relations with Stalin. Our government has long been accused of denying such knowledge of the war crime committed by our then ally despite an investigation by Congress in the 1950s establishing that it was the Russians not the Germans who killed the Poles.

In 2010, the Russian Duma recognized responsibility for the war crime in the killing of over 22,000 Polish officers and other prisoners in the Katyn forest and other locations in 1940.

The new information came from American POWs who were taken to the site in 1943 where they saw rows of corpses in an advanced state of decay in the Katyn forest on the western edge of Russia. The degree of decay made it unlikely that they were shot by the Germans. Moreover, their clean pressed uniforms showed that they had not been in captivity as POWs.

The Russians wanted to get rid of the polish intellectual and military leaders to take over Poland after the war. The prisoners were shot in the back of the head. Russia long denied responsibility until only recently with the Duma statement.

The intelligence came from American officers — Capt. Donald B. Stewart and Lt. Col. John H. Van Vliet Jr. — who were taken in May 1943 by the Germans to the forest after it was captured from the Russians. They found rows and rows of mummified remains. While these officers hated the Germans, they found the evidence to be undebatable and clear. Both send coded messages while still in captivity to army intelligence but the Administration buried the intelligence.

The chilling conclusion is that we knew about the war crime, buried the evidence, and then sat with Russian judges (right) on the Nuremberg Tribunal convicting others of some of the very same war crimes committed by Russia. All of this was done to keep Stalin from being insulted and causing tension in the alliance in the fight against tyranny. Not our proudest moment to be sure.

    Dredd et al,

Seems like some got over their need for bereavement at the 10th anniversary and now want the truth.
    ============================================
    Seems that way.

    Graham has also stated:

“I am convinced that there was a direct line between at least some of the terrorists who carried out the September 11th attacks and the government of Saudi Arabia,” former Senator Bob Graham, Democrat of Florida, said in an affidavit filed as part of a lawsuit brought against the Saudi government and dozens of institutions in the country by families of Sept. 11 victims and others. Mr. Graham led a joint 2002 Congressional inquiry into the attacks.

(NY Times). The cover-up is said to be because of the Saudi Oil empire and its power (Fighting Terrorism For 200 Years). The victims need their day in court against Saudi Arabia.

  2. Senator Graham is advocating another query/coverup in an attempt to silence those who know the towers were controlled demolition and that US personnel were involved in this false flag operation.

Tyranny” WHAT WAS THE USSR, a democracy?

    Read “Hope against Hope”.
“A day in the life of Ivan Denosovich” (from the late 40s) is a spring picnic in comparison to the 1930s. According to Nadeshda Mendelstam, whose husband spent his last days in a transit camp near Vladovostok.

  4. Dredd et al,

Although I can only believe that Senator Graham et al will only do a new coverup. And after Warren, we know that the Chief Justice is completely malleable to a coverup.

Jihad! Bomb Saudi Arabia, if we are going to nuke somewhere. Or just send in the Bushes with a nuke threat over their collective heads. Line ’em up and shoot.

Do I qualify for “red neck of the week”?

    Dredd,

We also have no problem in not bringing charges against our own war criminals.

Dredd…. Elaine….. You’re both right….. We still have no charges against the folks responsible for the jfk matter…. If I recall Caroline Kennedy authorized sealing the records for another 25 or 50 years……

We are complicit in many areas…..

Huffington Post has officially censored 9/11 discussion and posts until now.

Senator Graham, who headed the joint committee on the 9/11 investigation writes about the official coverup in a post titled Re-Open the 9/11 Investigation Now

  6. hey-hey! Keep it up folks.

Didja know that the State Dept. was officially given notice by the Japanese government two months before Pearl Harbor that because of our blockade of their shipping, they would attack with full force?
So the day that would live in “infamy” was known 2 months in advance. Just so you know whom to trust.

Good way to distract attention from 9/11 díscussions of who lied and why, and who did it—–actually.

Is this blog a demonstration of propaganda—-deflection of attention???

And is the quote below from the blog a more than acceptable use of flag-waving and simplification???

  7. I’ve also read that Eisenhower deliberately allowed a large number of German civilians to starve to death. A different kind of massacre.

  8. Waldo,

” The only reason those American officers were there was because the Nazis were trying to use the Katyn Massacre for propaganda purposes.”

The truth as propaganda. A novel idea.

  9. our space program, submarine and bacteriological programs were a direct result of enemy personnel working for US.

  10. Rafflaw:

It is a common subject in many of our histories and other countries as well. I was not aware of the taking of US Personnel during the Korean war, but something I wil read up on.

I remember reading how Emporer Hirohito’s implication in war crimes was suppressed by the Allies so as to ensure his continued freedom and reign. There also was evidence of the actors who performed medical experimentation on civilians by the Japanese military / gov’t were not prosecuted in exchange for the data obtained from the studies.

Sort of makes one reevaluate one’s beliefs in the gov’t’s definition of justice.

  11. Honestly, this doesn’t bother me, at least while WWII was still going on. We were in the middle of a life and death struggle with the Nazis. The only reason those American officers were there was because the Nazis were trying to use the Katyn Massacre for propaganda purposes. It certainly wasn’t their love of the Poles or dedication to human rights.

  12. The United States is still hiding information from the public that might show that US Air Force personnel were snatched by the Soviets during the Korean war.

  13. What McCarthyites covered up for those Nazis? I’d expect Joe himself to have tried to do so!
Obama-Biden-Holder, my heroes, let Cheney-Shrub and their constitutional wrecking crew off the docket for allegations of encouraging torture. Last night, Hannity-capped got Jose Rodrigues to allege that torture was involved in finding out where Osama was. Bush and Cheney have publicly admitted to the charges.
Jonathon, might you respond to my remarks?

  14. Dredd…. Elaine….. You’re both right….. We still have no charges against the folks responsible for the jfk matter…. If I recall Caroline Kennedy authorized sealing the records for another 25 or 50 years……

  15. We also had no problem taking in Nazis no matter their crimes if the government thought it would benefit us. (Does the name ‘Van Braun’ ring a bell? He was one of the more benign ones). American history is littered with bad behavior so I’m not shocked.

I’d like better but I don’t expect it, when the Chinese are the lone superpower I expect no better from them.
