When Diplomats Go Wild: Iran Hit With Major Scandal As U.N. Ambassador Shown Touching Hand Of A Woman

One would think that Iran would have its share of pressing social and political issues from the torture of prisoners to the denial of free speech to the development of nuclear weapons. However, Iran is aghast this week because of this video showing its U.N. ambassador, Ali Reza Sheik Attar, actually touching the hand of a woman. Yes, that is Attar giving a high five to Claudia Roth — a video that sent Muslim clerics in Iran scrambling to determine if he could be forgiven for such a public act of immorality. By the way, they are working on nuclear weapons.

Iran finally solved the problem by declaring it was the woman’s fault — there’s a change. A government spokesman announced that he was simply waving to be polite when this woman ruthlessly and unexpectedly high fived him in public. The spokesman stressed “The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran never shakes hands with a woman, and he has never shaken Claudia Roth’s hand either.” Thank God.

Notably, Germans are no happier with Roth, a Green party politician, that she is sharing friendship slaps with the representative of one of the most repressive, anti-women regimes in the history of the world. She has been declared “loser of the day” by one columnist and condemned by many Germans as someone who needs to find a wider circle of friends.

  1. smh@ iran, iraq, saudi arabia, and afghanistan still being blamed as terrorist.. when most of the world now knows the truth and unless the cia and mossad have been taken out of the u.s.a and israel. i would say there is nothing terroristic about trying to protect yourself when your being lied on to deceive the world for nefarious reasons.. like oh sayyyy mmmmm A ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. as for hatred of women. its the poor countries who still allow so called clerics to run them that has this sharia law bs going on… and as with everything terroristic there is a illogical reasoning behind it. and as long as people are willing to remain blind to those illogical reasons then actions like hatred of women will continue… as for the good ol u.s.a Mary Magdelene has a lot to do with the catholic church, mormons, jehovahs and others who also hate women and save their harshest rules, regulations, and husbands for them…

  2. unfortunately david the only thing your even close on is the spelling of MY NAME.

  3. “By the way, they are working on nuclear weapons.”

Cite a single unbiased source. As others have mentioned, all reputable agencies (and even disreputable ones, like the CIA) have admitted that Iran is not after nuclear weapons.

By the way, Israel has 150-200 illegally obtained nuclear weapons, as verified by Mordechai Vanunu.

Iran’s nuclear goal is electricity, to wean itself off a dependence on oil imports. Yes, imports, because the country must export oil for refinement and then buy it back.

Why don’t they refine it themselves? They want to, but they can’t Iran has been prevented from buying such equipment – first by the US overthrow of the democracy in 1953, then because the US puppet, the Shah, had no interest in working in his country’s interests, then again since 1979 because the US and other countries prevented it.

    1. By the way, Israel has 150-200 illegally obtained nuclear weapons, as verified by Mordechai Vanunu

This is simply a lie. While all agree that Israel has nukes, they, UNLIKE IRAN, are NOT signatories to the Non-proliferation treaty through which IRAN got access to nuclear technology and materials. Thus to say and equate Israel with the actions of Iran is simply wrong.

because the country must export oil for refinement and then buy it back.

Burning oil for electricity production does NOT require major technology, so they can burn it right from the well if they wish to generate power. The thing that they DO have to import is gasoline which requires catalytic refining and advanced technology to make gasoline out of the heavier ends of refining. Saudi crude is so light and sweet, it needs very little reforming and can in a pinch be run out of the well as diesel.

  4. Good thing the UN didn’t ask Uncle Sam after bombing Hiroshima (at the exact hour when all Japanese schoolchildren were entering school) & Nagasaki 2 days later (at the exact hour all Japanese schoolchildren were leaving school) if having “colored only” toilets, water fountains & lunch counters confirmed them as “rational actors” in nuclear genocide, particularly since women only the got the right to vote a couple decades earlier and Blacks didn’t officially get it until a couple decades later.

Especially sad that just 3 years after the Iranian Revolution the Equal Rights Ammendment (ERA) for women failed to pass by 4 whole states and to this day women in the US enjoy at leat a 1/4 less pay than men for the same work, but oh yes, sure, the patriarchy subjugating women in Iran is so much different than the patriarchy subjugating women in the USA that the white male dominion in the “land of the free” is surely justified being nuclear armed to the teeth while that brown male domain in Iran is just not worthy because…. they’re brown, and not judeo-christian.

What a rancid pile of schmuck this line of reasoning is.

  5. GOD THE FATHER
    1, February 13, 2013 at 1:04 pm

Eureka I got it ! Your parents named you god, you had offspring, thus entitling you to the title God the Father. ? am I close?
…. Would my scenario also entitle you to be named God the son ?

If your Father was named God would that title you the son of God ?
……And if you if you named an offspring god, could you be named the Father of God ?

Thus my confusion grows as I continue. With three generations of people named God. The middle generation family member would be entitled to :
    ….God the son.
    ….God the father.
    ….Son of God.
    ….Father of God.

This is like a trinity, plus 1 …. lets call it a quadrinity.

Perhaps the new Pope can work on this, the RNC can certainly use a new Schtick !!! :o)

  6. Hey Mike. I’ve called you lots of things before (especially a degenerate red-baiter) but never figured you as a Zionist hack touting the Mainstream Media AIPAC line on Iran? Shame on you & your senility!

    1. “Hey Mike. I’ve called you lots of things before (especially a degenerate red-baiter) but never figured you as a Zionist hack touting the Mainstream Media AIPAC line on Iran? Shame on you & your senility!”

      Karl,

Calling you a Marxist is not red baiting if you really are one. Can you at least have the honesty to admit the truth of that fact. I’ve known many people who were Marxists in my life, whether Maoists, Stalinists, Trotskyites, or any of the other sub-categories. Your writing here shows the same type of adherence to party line. My comment had nothing to do with whether or not Marxists have every bit as much right to their beliefs as Capitalists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Conservatives, or even Fascists for that matter. The problem I have with “Ists” of any belief, is when they let their doctrines paper over reality and you evince that tendency.

As for where I stand on Israel, AIPAC and Iran, my beliefs are well known because I’ve done a lot of writing on this blog. To get to Iran specifically though, I don’t believe that Iran is a threat to this country, or Israel particularly.
However, it is a bestial regime simply because of its maltreatment of women and its enforcement of Sharia Law. You call them “rational actors and indeed they are from the standpoint of attacking anyone. Yet these rational actors play a very irrational and stupid game in the threats they make, which gives comfort to those who want to war on them. They are also every bit, if not greater, violators of human rights than is Israel. Yet for the purposes of your political view, you and your ilk downplay the oppression of women that exists there and throughout the Muslim world. Injustice is injustice no matter which side you are on. However, a party line guy such as yourself is quite willing to countenance one injustice against another.

A few people who comment here don’t understand that Communism and Fascism are not the same things politically and/or economically. However, the one thing they do share is a blind adherence to authority. They are “authoritarians” when it comes to minds closed by pre-digested ideology. This is something that you exhibit Karl in your writings.

Now one thing people on this blog know from my writing is that I do not automatically call people who are anti-Israel, anti-Jewish. One can be opposed to Israel’s existence and not hate Jews. There are even some Jews who adhere to that belief. However, those who hate Jews as a matter of course usually expose themselves in their rhetoric. You could have easily made your case against Israel and against the buildup for attacking Iran in simply rational terms, but you chose to put it on a “Talmud Thumping Zionist”.

How simple the world must be for you Karl in you complete certainty of belief. You separate the travails of humanity into “good vs. evil” terms just as much as any fundamentalist fool. Therein lies your failing.

“but oh yes, sure, the patriarchy subjugating women in Iran is so much different than the patriarchy subjugating women in the USA that the white male dominion in the “land of the free” is surely justified being nuclear armed to the teeth while that brown male domain in Iran is just not worthy because…. they’re brown, and not judeo-christian.”

This link below indicates the repressive/regressive policies of this regime you support:

      http://jonathanturley.org/2012/02/23/iranian-court-orders-the-death-penalty-for-christian-pastor-convicted-of-apostasy/

Your arguments suffer from the logical error of conflation, which is a tactic well used here by the Right Wing. As for my own stand on the repression of women, compared to you tolerance of it see below:

      http://jonathanturley.org/2013/02/09/the-most-important-human-rights-issue-women/#more-60498

The difference twixt you and me Karl is not one of intelligence. It is the difference between one whose mind is closed by a pre-digested ideology, compared to someone with an open mind who is always will to question his beliefs and learn from new knowledge. You are the former and I am the latter, despite any “senility” you impute to me.

Save us from the ideologues of the world, because they are the ones that get the rest of us killed.

  7. Sorry Len but that’s pure hogwash (and perhaps even borderline racism) derived by somebody whose apparently been deluded by both Western & Zionist propaganda. (You really should try absorbing something more objective than the commercial press if you want to impart wisdom about Iran.)

Sure fundamentalist zealots are a scourge no matter which religion but every expert, including Prof. Turley, accepts the truism that Iran’s leaders are ultimately “rational actors” well aware of the certain retaliatory doom awaiting Persia should they strike first with such weapons and therefore they are as safe in their hands as in the hands of some Born Again nit wit like Dubya or some Talmud thumping Zionist.

Only profound hypocrites can maintain that Uncle Sam and other nuclear bigshots have a right to arm themselves to the teeth while wannabe brown people are deemed too unworthy or too irrational, or maybe it’s just because they’re too brown?

It’d be like Uncle Sam saying: “OK, US citizens have a 2nd Amendment right to bear arms but Muslim Americans need not apply because they are just too nutty to be trusted with guns.”

As you can see that’s just a bunch of horseshit nonsense built upon rancid stereotypes.

    1. Karl,

I know it’s your party line but you are hardly one to decry bigotry by spouting “Talmud Thumping Zionist”. I get that you don’t like Israel, but your expression of that dislike is done in a bigoted manner. Perhaps though you’re a women hating misogynist since there is nothing rational about Iran’s repression of women, but then it fits your party line doesn’t it and the party must always be correct. Then too are you a “Marx thumping Ideologue?”
