NAME MY DOG

Picture 1320As many of you know, we lost our beloved Molly a few months ago after she was hit by a SUV.  We planted a beautiful “Molly bush” in front of the house and have had a hard time getting over her loss. We decided to get another goldendoodle like Molly for sentimental reasons (as well as the need for a hypoallergenic dog for some friends).  This earlier picture shows the puppy that we will pick up next week.  She is a bit bigger now but you get the idea.  We are divided on the name so I turn to my blog community for guidance. Below are the contenders, though you can suggest alternative names as well in the comment section. While we reserve the right of self-determination, the Turley family is looking to the wisdom of the greatest blog for the greatest dog in the world.

  1. David Blauw,

I had a friend who named one of his dogs “Fish”.

She never learned how to breath water though.

  2. OMG, you cannot name her anything but LUCY.

I mean, look at her! You have to give her a proper name!

  3. I’m assuming “Scout” refers to Atticus Finch’s daughter. That’s my vote following Susan Apel.

  4. Well… Charcoals not on the list…. So, I’d go with Juno….

  5. What an adorable puppy! I choose Scout because of the picture above where she appears to be digging for clues in the flower pot! She will bring joy to your home! (Most of the time!) 🙂

  6. She’s as cute as a flower & that could be used as a clue for a name.

One name I like this morning is Liz.

I like it because it’s short & I like short names for dogs.

Short names make a lot of sense, for example, it’s around midnight in the fall & raining, the dog has gone off exploring & hasn’t made it home yet.

And as the pet’s owner you are out there, all over the neighborhood, in the rain, trying to call your dog up.

    You know, like… ( come on) you’re hollering: ” ome’On Blue” or “ome’On Liz”.

A name you can call half the night easily while search for your dog.

(How did it get out of your fence in the 1st place???).

Another thing about dogs, pets, etc., I hate to see animals abused or neglected.

This guy below has distinguished himself in helping people learn how to behave themselves around animals & on how to create positive conditions for enjoyment of the person/family & their dog.

I highly recommend passing his name/videos out to others.

  7. I look at her and see Fleur (Flower) but I went for Luna on the list.

  8. Constitution, Constance, Connie.

Personally if I owned a dog I would name it Cat, and teach it to poop in a litter box. :o)

  9. May I respectfully suggest “Madiba.”

That is the clan name of President Nelson Mandela in his Xhosa clan. He is near death as I write this.

Madiba is also the name of a rescue dog brought to the Touray & Meyer Veterinary Clinic in The Gambia. There is a YouTube video of Madiba being treated by the doctors there. As one of the veterinarians commented in the video, “There is only one Madiba.”

A unique and powerful name, and a name representing some of the best the human race has to offer.

  10. Italian favourites

Favourites are Lupo for an alsation type dog (lupo means wolf), Lassie (pronounced Lessie as for some strange reason Italians often change the /a/ sound in English words to an /e/) and Whisky pronounced weeskee!

Fashion names are popular, so you could go for Versace or Valentino or even Dolce and Gabbana for twin pups.

Italians also tend to use a lot of English names for their pets, albeit with Italian pronunciation!

    Male or Female?

    Names for Irish Dogs
Many people have sent me e-mails asking for good names for their pets. Wolves and hounds were especially meaningful to the Celts. The implied meaning of many wolf and hound names is that of a warrior. Whether you have an Irish Wolfhound, an Irish Setter, a Kerry Blue Terrier or a mutt needing an Irish name, here are some dog-related names. If you’d like to name another kind of animal, or want a name denoting a color or character trait, We also have lists of names you can search by meaning. Here are names used with affection for sweethearts and children. The meanings are not taken literally, just as when you call someone ‘honey’ you don’t mean that they are sticky and yellow. 11. I don’t care that she’s a she. She is “Fibber McGee” & inseparable in time from “Molly”.

  12. I went with “Juno” because I’m sure you’ll all be happy together with such a wonderful addition to the family and naming the fur belly “Pepper” just puts too much pressure on her to go to medical school.
