NAME MY DOG

Picture 1320As many of you know, we lost our beloved Molly a few months ago after she was hit by a SUV.  We planted a beautiful “Molly bush” in front of the house and have had a hard time getting over her loss. We decided to get another goldendoodle like Molly for sentimental reasons (as well as the need for a hypoallergenic dog for some friends).  This earlier picture shows the puppy that we will pick up next week.  She is a bit bigger now but you get the idea.  We are divided on the name so I turn to my blog community for guidance. Below are the contenders, though you can suggest alternative names as well in the comment section. While we reserve the right of self-determination, the Turley family is looking to the wisdom of the greatest blog for the greatest dog in the world.

  1. I am a breeder/owner/trainer/handler of dogs who also happens to be a lawyer. I started training dogs 40 years ago. As a breeder, I would be concerned about selling you a dog if your first one was hit by a car. I understand accidents happen but the circumstances would be important to me.

If you are looking for a hypoallergetic dog, then the dog you chose does not fit the bill. Research has disproven those claims by breeders.

I also think as a lawyer the name “Scout” has special significance as it’s the narrator in “To Kill A Mockingbird” & is the most appropriate. But as a dog breeder I generally have litter “themes” so all the puppies in a particular litter have names which fit within the “theme”. As a dog owner, I believe one needs to spend time with a dog before deciding on a name. The dog’s temperament & personality will help you choose a name.

  2. How about “Cole” in honor or Cole Porter, Writer of I’ve got you under my skin, Night and Day, and other timeless songs, and in honor of the great singers Nat King Cole and daughter Natalie Cole? Plus the name is associated with the color black.

  3. Petunia, i’m just guessing that is what’s in the flower pot.

  4. feeling old fashioned today, so “Susie” for Black-eyed Susan!

  5. Oky1: “A name you can call half the night easily while search for your dog.”

True. All dog names get shortened to one syllable for baby-talk (if you don’t baby-talk your pet now and then you shouldn’t have one 🙂 ) and calling.

Jonathan is right IMO about “Juno’, if you slip into one syllable calling or baby-talk… well, look at the options.

    I voted Luna- “HereLou”/ “Is’at my LuLu? Is’at moma’s Lulu?”

I’d be inclined toward Bonnie. She is a bonny lass of a dog. Or give her a couple of days at home and see if she has a trait that names her.

  6. I seem to be the only one who likes Pandora, but I would call her Pandy instead of Pan.

  7. Gene, Great video. You can see the personalities of the different breeds by how they deal w/ the sprinkler. I like the German Shepherd’s thought process.

  8. She is so adorable
(and David Blauw, you can teach a (small) dog to use a litter box, nice if you have an apartment/can’t get out but the vet told me you don;t want to do that when you have cats: the dog will use his own box but will clean out the cat’s litter box for you (which if it wasn; so disgusting would be a big help ((*_*)) )

  9. “Greatest dog in the world”? I’ll be polite and simply state that she has plenty of competition for that title, including my own pupster, currently recovering from his recent parathyroidectomy. (Lesson learned: buy insurance – before you think you’ll need it.)

Anyway, about the name: the photo suggests DIGBY!
