Mugabe: Homosexuality Is Filthy Disease Destroying Nation

200px-mugabecloseup2008With an economy in shambles, the world community condemning you for a rigged election, widespread corruption and sickness in his country, it is hard to predict what subject Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe would pick for an emphasis in his inaugural address. Mugabe however went with none of the above and instead lashed out at homosexuality, which he described as filthy, filthy disease.”

The 89-year-old president urged people to “damn” homosexuality and warned them that homosexuality “destroys nations, apart from it being a filthy, filthy disease.” Mugabe has made gays the focus of his public remarks, declaring them “worse than pigs, goats, and birds.” Of course the destruction of his own country by his own hand is almost complete. The country has only a couple hundred dollars in the bank while his wife and family spends lavishly on themselves.

By getting people to hate gays, Mugabe clearly hopes that they will not be thinking of the billions that he and his family has squandered. For most Zimbabweans, it is the Mugabe family that is the filthy disease destroying their name.

  1. AY,
I periodically go through the spam bucket and have pulled out several comments today. I have not seen any of yours in there. Over the past several days, some comments are not only blocked, but “disappeared.” I have no idea what is going on, but suspect a cache issue. It was a cache problem that crashed the site a couple of days ago.

  2. Gene,

It’s traced to email… That’s specifically is going into spam…. If you’ll notice in he administrator section you’ll see the alternative email I’m using… I’m not getting any into the regular email…. Just saying….

    Wikipedia:
“The Sadducees (Hebrew: צְדוּקִים Ṣĕdûqîm) were a sect or group of Jews that were active in Judea during the Second Temple period, starting from the second century BCE through the destruction of the Temple in 70CE. The sect was identified by Josephus with the upper social and economic echelon of Judean society.”

It works pretty well if you’re on top and want to keep it that way. Wealth and class, it’s an old story.

  4. Thank you Gene.
I rewrote my post thinking it was lost and I added some to it.

Davidm, Mutaween begins with M. They too have moral beliefs they enforce on populations. In Saudi Arabia they have the power of a theocratic government behind them.
Our constitution does not allow Religious belief to determine socially legislated law. You have the right to your opinions, and wonderfully on this blog, Professor Turley allows free and open discussion. I have read your views over and over. I am simply beginning to see just the bricks of your words. IMO the philosophy you are professing is antiquated and has been disproven. I have seen much straw in your words of brick. You are building a defensive wall to contain your ideas. I will simply walk around your fortress and walk on by, respecting your right to personal speech, but I will not linger in the shade of your walls.
My opinion may have been similar to yours years ago. I have kept an open mind and have a self grown, self determined view, of my brother and sister human beings that were born gay. Kudos to them and their struggle that has led to the awakening of fair and equal treatment to all GLBT individuals.

Adults balanced within themselves and their relationships have all the wonder of life to experience fully, freely, and together. If a persons balance is being gay, that is the place they should stand.

I find balance within myself much more often these days as I grow. Finding balance and self determination, allows me the freedom to be me.
This is precious and vital life fulfilling understanding I strive towards.
I can’t imagine denying this right to others.

  5. DavidM Does the M stand for Mutaween? :o)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_religious_police

Main article: Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Saudi Arabia)
The Mutaween in Saudi Arabia are tasked with enforcing Sharia as defined by the government, specifically by the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV). The Mutaween of the CPVPV consists of “more than 3,500 officers in addition to thousands of volunteers…often accompanied by a police escort.” They have the power to arrest unrelated males and females caught socializing, anyone engaged in homosexual behavior or prostitution; to enforce Islamic dress-codes, and store closures during the prayer time. They enforce Muslim dietary laws, prohibit the consumption or sale of alcoholic beverages and pork, and seize banned consumer products and media regarded as anti-Islamic (such as CDs/DVDs of various Western musical groups, television shows and film which has material contrary to Sharia law or Islam itself). Additionally, they actively prevent the practice or proselytizing of other religions within Saudi Arabia, where they are banned.[4][5]

  6. You’re welcome, Jill. I was in there retrieving one of my own comments anyway. 😀

  7. AY,

With the sheer volume of posts you’re having disappear and not show up in the spam filter, you might want to clean out your browser cache. We had some technical WP problems the other day and they suggested clearing our caches as part of the solution. It might help if you did the same.

  8. “You perceive gay denigration only because of your ideology of making gays a protected class of people who needs to be coddled and protected from any criticism.”

    David,

Maybe he and others perceive denigration because you speak in denigrating terms like referring to their sexual orientation as an ideology. Sexual orientation is not an ideology, which means in English a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy. If homosexuality were an ideology, there would be no gay Republicans and yet there are enough of them to have their own organization – the Log Cabin Republicans – despite being affiliated with political party that is currently and historically square against their best interests. There are just as many, probably more, homosexuals that are apolitical. Advocating equal rights is not “coddling”, which means in English to treat someone in an indulgent or overprotective way. Equal rights are equal protection under the law – equality; the base value of egalitarianism. Egalitarianism is one of the founding principles of this country; from the Declaration to the 14th Amendment, this country is predicated upon the equal treatment of citizens under the law. That we don’t live up to that aspirational goal as quickly or as often as we should is a failing of human bigotry, but the law is the law and goal of an egalitarian government remains. Protecting the civil rights of classes of people isn’t to protect them from criticism. Perez Hilton is gay and he’s every bit the nasty hateful troll you are, just in a different way of hateful. Protecting the civil rights of classes of people is to protect them from having their rights violated by bigots without benefit of legal recourse.

    It’s called “English”.

    Get some.

By the way, the quality of your trolling is getting ever more amateurish and desperate. You should consider giving up. As a propagandist or evangelist or whatever it is you think you’re doing to persuade people to your way of thinking, you are failing miserably.

    1. Gene H wrote: “you speak in denigrating terms like referring to their sexual orientation is an ideology.”

I never referred to sexual orientation as an ideology. That is a ridiculous concept. However, there is clearly a homosexual ideology, an agenda for causing society to approve of same sex behavior. That ideology invented the term “sexual orientation” less than 40 years ago in order to further its goals. Your denial of this truth is illogical.

Gene H wrote: “Egalitarianism is one of the founding principles of this country; from the Declaration to the 14th Amendment, this country is predicated upon the equal treatment of citizens under the law.”

I am not arguing against egalitarianism. When the Republicans in Congress drafted the 14th Amendment, it was to protect blacks from State and local governments which moved to keep black people oppressed. Especially egregious was not allowing blacks to own property. The 14th Amendment is right in its goal of having the laws apply equally to everybody, so that if a white man can own property, then so can a black man.

Well, homosexuals are not being kept from owning property under the color of law. The intellectual confusion you have now is caused by your acceptance of falsehoods, such as the idea that homosexuality represents a particular type of person who is born with sexual proclivities over which he has no control.

The real issue concerns what actually constitutes sexual immorality. What types of sexual behavior are good and what are bad. For example, some people in this forum would say that pedophilia is a bad sexual orientation, but homosexuality is a good sexual orientation. Do creating laws against pedophilia violate the 14th Amendment? No. However, that is only clear to them because they readily see the harm in pedophilia without further discussion.

Well, some people for a variety of reasons perceive various forms of sexual immorality, which include fornication, adultery, and homosexuality. Homosexuality is a subset of sexually immoral behavior that also includes various heterosexual expressions. Homosexual and bisexual behavior is just a part of that sexually immoral continuum, but an ideology has been put forward that singles out homosexuality at the extreme end of the continuum in order to manipulate the law to invent a protected classes of people who engage in sexually immoral behavior. The whole idea of applying the 14th Amendment to homosexual behavior is just fancy rhetoric and sophistry to protect sexually immoral behavior. This protection does not mean just making the sexually immoral behavior legal, but it means punishing as criminals those who would in any way consider their sexual behavior as immoral.

I consider laws that punish those who treat homosexuality as immoral to be bad laws that will create great harm in society. If the legal profession continues along this illogical path, I can see no remedy in its future but another revolution to replace it with better laws. People will not long put up with the oppression and tyranny brought by this homosexual ideology of sexual liberation.

  9. My comment to LK is not posting. If someone could grab it I would appreciate it.

  10. L.K. I ran into this book, “When man created god”. I don’t really like it because it’s disorganized and there is no clear argument in it. Still, the author mentioned one doctrine of the Sadducee which was similar to The Family (at least a doctrine they held around the time of Jesus). That group also believed people in power were put there by god. Thus, even a mass murderer had to be accepted as a leader, as to not do so, would be an insult to god. I wonder if that’s where The Family’s idea came from.

To worship a god who appoints mass murderers as his chosen instrument seems truly bizarre. There are many gods to choose from, why choose that one?

  11. OS and Rafflaw,

It’s very scary that you both think it doesn’t matter what the use of names to dehumanize others means. History and current societies are very clear on the matter.

Lack of an underlying ethical system that will apply to your worst enemy opens people up to propaganda. It opens people up to committing atrocities. How do you think Mugabe is successful? In part, he needs people to see others as subhuman. One man, even one very powerful man, cannot do it alone. He needs the acquiescence of others in order to create hate and atrocity. It’s how torture has become SOP in the US. Wake up.

  12. Jill, Thanks for the reminder on The Family dirty hands in Africa.

Max1, nice followup on the case against Lively, he is a monster and I wish the Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG) organization well.

  13. David, your agenda is clear. Your facts are wrong.

Zimbabwe has a generalized HIV/AIDS epidemic with HIV transmitted primarily through heterosexual contact and mother-to-child transmission. High risk groups, including migrant laborers, people in prostitution, girls involved in intergenerational sexual relationships, discordant couples, and members of the uniformed services warrant special attention in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Young adults and women are hardest hit by the epidemic. In 2005, approximately 930,000 women over the age of 14 were estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe.[1]

My facts are correct. I am well aware of the information you posted. The article you link to actually confirms all the facts that I posted. You must have misunderstood me about something.
