For many years, this and other blogs have criticized President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders for their failure to pull out of Afghanistan after his election. There was clearly an unwillingness to risk the political costs of being blamed for a withdrawal or a perceived defeat. As a result, our personnel were left in harm’s way, even as the country’s president called us “demons”, our allies denied basic rights to woman and religious minorities, and polls showed intense anti-American sentiments. Hundreds of billions were spent to provide political cover for leaders who needed to show that they were tough on terror. Of course, many were made millionaires off the war while others paid the price on the ground. Roughly 75 percent of the fallen were from working class families. Now, a study by a conservative organization has shown that 73 percent of all U.S. Afghan War casualties have occurred since Jan. 20, 2009 when Obama was inaugurated. While another site shows slightly different numbers, the result is the same: most of the deaths have occurred under Obama (a fact that is seldom reported)
There have been 91 U.S. casualties in Afghanistan just in 2013. You can compare that to the 30 and 31 troops killed in 2002 and 2003. This is the result of Congress giving Bush a blank check on September 14, 2001. While leaders like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry agreed to the language, many at the time objected to the resolution as a transparent effort to avoid accountability for an actual declaration of war as required by the Constitution. Instead of showing leadership, they approved a resolution authorizing the president “to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons.” Once started, none of them had the courage to demand that it end while lobbyists continues the streaming of billions into the pocket of contractors. By last count, 2,144 U.S. military personnel have killed in the war and 1,575 of those occurred under Obama.
There are differences between the numbers of the conservative site and icasualties.org, though the difference still shows a vast majority of deaths occurring with Obama. Here are the CNS statistics:

Son of thunder … Of course the study is biased. CNS is not a traditional conservative website. It is a far right christian website of the type that refers to Obama as a socialist and a Muslim. Its editor is Terry Jeffries, a protege of Pat Buchanan.
RWL the usa was always a corporation, they just hid it behind a phony government. which is why the elites needed and need to have and keep their minions in the highest offices, that is why they own everything. hollyweird, the no tune industry( music), fashion, the lame stream media, education, and all banks except the mom and pop businesses and now they are no longer attempting to keep up the pretense. timothy mc veigh and others were anti government. some of them were also mk ultra plants. with that said they think that after 200 years of careful planning, and destroying they have no other reason to fear us. there is nothing we can do to stop them. the funny part is they took over hollyweird was that if and should any information manage to leak out. before it could reach the total mass population a movie was / is made and the people think oh thats just hollywood its a movie that stuff doesnt happen in real life.
any top ranked politician, priest, banker, etc who tried to warn us, who turned against them and found their conscious was /is destroyed. and if they persist then they are killed off. they took over the medical industry to pump us full of drugs designed to make and keep us sick, along with drugged and passive , what strikes me is this information is well known world wide and yet their plans are going along perfectly. if obama had of been any other president he would never have made it to office, or he would have been impeached by now…. and yet the people just sit by and allow him to do whatever it is he feels like doing. but thats about to end to. obama is going out in a big scandal the beginnings of which is coming into form as we post….
I am not quite sure I understand the surprise that there are more combat deaths in Afghanistan since President Obama took office. While I wish we had left Afghanistan the day he was inaugurated, he ran for office on the platform that Pres. Bush had ignored Afghanistan since he attacked Iraq in March of 2003 and that he would draw down the war in Iraq and emphasize the war in Afghanistan. I don’t think a study was needed to determine the date of deaths of our heroic military personnel.
I guess a similar review would show that there were more combat deaths in Iraq during the Bush Administration than during the Obama administration. Does that make any of it any better? Actually, if McCain had not lost to Obama, would he have reduced the deaths in Afghanistan or Iraq? If his rhetoric is an example of what he would have done, I think it is easy to surmise that the answer is no.
The real answer is to terminate the AUMF and the Patriot Act as amended and make any President get a declaration of war from Congress. Without those steps, the future will not be bright enough to require any of us to have to wear sunglasses.
All we are saaaayin is give peace a chance…
Wining the Cold War seems to have been an excuse to take the gloves off and use that huge military we had built. It is simple proof of the concept that I have long and loudly proclaimed – “All Governments Eventually Will Use All Powers That They Have” (Gray’s Law).
If they have a mighty military they WILL use it
If you let them build militarized national & local police agencies with the capability to totally monitor every aspect of the peoples lives, dominate & brutalize them at will should they choose and to suppress ALL dissent – well, THEY WILL eventually use that capability as well – it is inevitable, it is human nature, it is Gray’s Law in action.
seamus,
Whoa!
“Study: Almost 75 Percent of All Afghanistan Deaths Occurred Under Obama”
Of course this study is politically biased. But what’s the point? Mr. Obama had nothing to do with starting this evil-operation. The last POTUS did under very suspicious circumstances. The reason why the US body-count numbers are so large is basically summed up in the movie: The Hurt Locker (2008). It explains how Taliban-extremists are being supplied with bigger and better IED’s that can take out the newly armored up HumVee’s that Bush/Cheney should have done when they had a chance. Rumsfeld really screwed up – but on purpose?
As you know, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time. You can have all the armor in the world on a tank, and a tank can be blown up. And you can have an up-armored Humvee, and it can be blown up… – SecDef Donald Rumsfeld (Google: Specialist Thomas Wilson of the Tennessee National Guard)
So why can’t Mr. Obama pull out the troops now rather than later? Because since the last criminal-POTUS brought us into this awful mess for suspicious reasons, it makes it harder to just pull out quickly. That would leave our mouthy little puppet, Hamid Karzai, exposed to take over from Saudi backed insurgents like the late UBL (Ussama Bin Laden). In this case the very alive Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Bush started it and we have to finish it – CORRECTLY this time.
Yes Ginger Woolridge you are right. Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) depicts how we left too many “chickens to come home to roost” in Afghanistan. What happened was that Russia invaded Afghanistan in the late 70’s. POTUS Jimmy Carter had to do something about it. So he tasked the CIA to do that. CIA’s Mike Vickers and Gust Avrakotos both did the planning and execution (depicted in the movie). It was called Operation Cyclone.
Unfortunately, Mr. Carter was forced to use CIA men IMO that were loyalists to the-late-1970’s-recently ex-DCI George HW Bush. The late Avrakotos claimed that CIA’s Ollie North (an AVID Bush loyalist – even today) was the “lunatic-fringe” that introduced ideas to get someone to replace Abdullah Azzam from the Afghan mujahedin to take over a newly formed terrorist group Ollie probably named the “database” or “the base” in Arabic or Al-Qaeda. Azzam was forcibly retired by IED on 24 November 1989. Guess who took over Al-Qaeda leadership? So yes a CIA-faction started it but has NOTHING to do with it today! (IMO)
Re: Operation Cyclone – CIA had to find a DEMOCRAT (plausible deniabilty right? Wouldn’t want to implicate the GOP?) who was easy to control. A Texas loose-cannon, drunk, womanizer would work well. Enter the late (now) Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson (D-TX). He was easily manipulated by Bush loyalist and Houston socialite Joanne Herring (still living).
Hence we (USA) supplied the Afghans with stinger missile systems, AK-47’s, and probably a lot of the “other” stuff (used against ex-Soviet Union) Syria is being accused of having now. Someone, is today keeping Taliban ammo supplies stocked. And it’s not USA, Russia, or PRC. I wonder who that could be? Victor Bout’s (Lord of War (2005)) in US jail right?
Who does that leave?

When do we stop blaming one or two people (or maybe one or two governing entities) instead of ourselves for allowing the Elites to continue to operate this country as an oligarchy? When are going to wake up? Or maybe I’ll have to wait until Christ returns?

Hey Yo!
Hey Barry!
Hey yo, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand …
Censors are on steroids this morn’ …
JT zeroes in on the AUMF:
I did not notice any language “except Saudi Arabia” in the resolution.
Yet, the Saudi’s got away with funding 15 of the 19 hijackers according to some heavyweight officials in government (Fighting Terrorism For 200 Years – 4). WUWT (“what up with that?”).
That AUMF and the War Powers Act seems like they’re really paying off. I mean, what could possibly go wrong with an Imperial Executive? One of the great forethoughts of our Founders was the Separation of Powers Doctrine. Maybe it’s long past time to recognize that and for Congress to start doing their job as described by the Constitution instead of as paid for by lobbyists.
What an inexperienced leader
He wants to kill more Syrians with conventional weapons to stop the Killing with W.M.D. s makes sense to me
You mean to tell me they didn’t die protecting our freedoms?
I think it is important to remember how we have left Afghanistan in the past. I recommend ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’. We effectively birthed the Taliban fighters. We trained them and then pulled out…
He’s the Peace President… Don’t you know…. We have to blow up folks to show them peace….then again he should give back that Nobel Prize…. Certainly it was taken under false pretenses…. Which is a crime in of itself….
