We have long covered the abuses of the Saudi Arabian religious police known as the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. These are the religious fanatics who reportedly forced girls back into a burning school in Mecca because they were not sufficiently covered in public — 15 died as a result. When they are not apparently burning girls, they are forcing women to cover up “attractive eyes” or shutting down dinosaur exhibits or shutting down lingerie stores or arresting women having coffee. When it comes to their own crimes, however, they appear less committed to harsh Sharia punishment. A young Saudi was killed in a car chase last week trying to flee the religious police. After he crashed, the police fled the scene.
The chase took place in Riyadh and was apparently captured on a video. The Haia, as the police are known, was seen by witnesses. They were chasing two men in a car when it overturned. Witnesses say that the Haia deliberately bumped the small car and caused it to swerve off the road and fall off a bridge.
The dead man is reported to be Nasser al-Otaibi, 24.. His brother Saud, 22, was taken to intensive care with serious injuries.
The head of the Saudi religious police, Sheikh Abdul Latif Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh attended the funeral and promised not to interfere with the investigation.
In the meantime, people on social media are demanding the same harsh Sharia punishment that the Haia routinely imposes on others. Indeed, friends say that the men were afraid of being abused by the hands of the Haia when they decided to try to get away in their car.

The Saudi’s are responding to the protests and pressures of OTHER SAUDI’s. This is not an indictment against all Muslims any more than the abusive ones in any church should be an indictment against all Christians, whether they be ministers, priests or the pope himself. We have stories of rotten and/or stupid cops daily on this blog-yet we all know that most cops are decent and well intentioned people. That young man that died-is a Muslim. An entire nation of mothers of sons is mad about this. They are mad about the girls who died in the fire, mad about stupid clerics who make stupid statements to try to cow them. They are better educated and more well informed than at any time in history. You will notice they are NOT taking it anymore. From the royal family on down, things are changing. Not instantly, not perfectly, but I think there are improvements. Remember the govt’s of the M.E. are not representative governments. Even ours, which IS, has notable incidents of stupid government officials from deputies in tiny towns to the top of our representative government. Do we really need to discuss some of the religious “leaders”? Do they represent all Americans or all Christians? I sure hope not!

We used to call the former colonial territories that gained statehood: Third World. One does not hear that term anymore. We make he mistake of lumping all territories as equals. Somalia gets treated like France. But, those of us with some sense will draw a map of the world and identify those territories which are the lowest, middling, middle, and up to speed. From Gibralter to China we have nothing but Pirate Territories, save Turkey and Israel. The rest– do no business, be not a dumb tourist, if you go near by sea be well armed for pirates, if you must fly over make sure that you flush.

These are our allies? I now cannot tell if we infected them or they infected us. We used to have Constitution but they never have. We used to have rights but they never did (don’t tell me about Saladin, I don’t want to hear it.). Now we have no rights, no Constitution and our police are out of control. What do you think?
